[Knock on door]
Bill: Come in.
Brooke: Hi. I hope I'm not interrupting.
Bill: No. Not at all. What's up?
Brooke: I was looking for Katie, but she's not in her office.
Bill: Uh, well, she's not here, actually. She -- she's at home.
Brooke: Is Will okay?
Bill: Yeah, Will's fine. To tell you the truth, she's seeing her psychiatrist. Something I wish she would have done weeks ago.
Katie: Thank you for coming, Dr. Hayden. I know you don't normally make house calls.
Dr. Hayden: No, it's no problem. Uh, how are you doing? I, uh -- I've been thinking about you since you called me the other night.
Katie: Yeah. Sorry I called so late.
Dr. Hayden: Are you okay?
Katie: Yeah, sure. Everything's fine. That's why I called. [Chuckles] Yeah, obviously everything's not fine. My sister Brooke -- she told my husband that she's still in love with him.
Nicole: You guys are so obvious.
Maya: What? We were planning on going to the movies this weekend.
Rick: And we'd really like it if you came along.
Nicole: Because you feel sorry for me.
Maya: No. Because you make everything more fun.
Rick: And we feel terrible about what happened with Zende.
Maya: If we're honest, we know that...the reason Zende ended things is because you're pregnant with our baby.
Nicole: Nothing I can do to change that. I mean, I wouldn't. Does it hurt? Yeah. Do I miss him? Yeah. A lot.
[Camera shutter clicking]
Zende: Just a few more.
Zende: Okay. I think we got what we need.
Sasha: Are you sure? Because I can keep this up all night.
Zende: We're good.
Sasha: [Sighs] You know, you're gonna have to get over it eventually.
Zende: I'm trying.
Sasha: Zende, you did what you had to do. Nicole and the surrogacy nightmare -- I mean, she's carrying Maya and Rick's baby. The whole thing is bizarre. It's -- it's beneath you, really. You have got way too much going on for you to put up with all that. I only got a little taste when I kissed you the other day, but it was enough to know that you deserve way better than Nicole.
Rick: I'll talk to him, find out where he was coming from.
Nicole: I don't want to convince Zende to be with me. And I'm not mad at him for how he feels. Expecting him to deal with this, to wait a whole nine months -- it -- it wasn't right. It was asking too much.
Rick: I'm gonna let you two have some sister time.
Rick: See you. [Smooches]
Maya: Nicole, I am so sorry. I feel terrible for what you're going through.
Zende: I'm heading home. Calling it a day. Well, thanks for the good work.
Sasha: "[Mockingly] Thanks for the good work." [Normal voice] When did you get so formal?
Zende: I'll see you tomorrow, Sasha.
Sasha: Okay. But, hey, hey. You better not be moping around tomorrow. I let it slide for today, but mnh-mnh. No more. You've got to move on, Zende. You tried everything that you could with Nicole, but trust me, carrying her sister's baby is just the latest on her list of harebrained ideas. You had every right to walk away.
Zende: I appreciate the support.
Sasha: You know I'm here for you, whatever you need.
Brooke: I'm glad Katie's being proactive, getting back into therapy.
Bill: It's a huge relief that she reached out.
Brooke: It's good that she's opening up and she's talking to somebody. She needs guidance, Bill.
Bill: I obviously don't have to tell you that she's battled depression before. I don't want her going down that road again.
Katie: They were in a relationship a while ago, as you know. But Bill and I remarried, and he had moved on. And I really thought that Brooke had, too.
Dr. Hayden: Until you overheard her tell your husband that she loves him.
Katie: Yes. I confronted her, and I guess you could say we talked. I'm trying to let it go.
Dr. Hayden: And what about your husband? Have you talked to him about your concerns?
Katie: Bill and I are fine. We are. I trust him. And I want to be able to trust Brooke, too. I just don't know that I can.
Brooke: I really want to be there for Katie as a sister, as a friend. But I know she's still upset with me. I don't want to overstep.
Bill: I wish I knew what to tell you, Brooke. But I'm at a loss myself.
Brooke: [Sighs] Okay, well, you know what? I better get going. Because Katie wouldn't want us to be together like this, so...
Bill: Yeah, believe me, I get it. I'm...more or less walking on eggshells.
Brooke: But you two adore each other. You'll make it work.
Bill: She planned a family dinner for tonight.
Brooke: Well, that's good. It should be a lovely evening.
Bill: Yeah, and I think it will be good for us -- a quiet night at home with Will, spending some time together. Maybe that will help get Katie back on track. Which is all I really care about -- my wife being okay.
Katie: Brooke's behavior -- it drives me crazy. I mean, it's -- it's pathological. It's like she has an addiction to men, and that includes my husband. It -- it's more than just flirting. Trust me. And it -- and it's not just all in my head like everyone wants me to believe. She needs attention. She craves it like a drug. I mean, I hate that I'm even talking about her. I mean, why do I always talk about Brooke? I mean, something goes wrong, and she's right there in the middle of it, giggling and tossing her hair. It -- it's infuriating.
Dr. Hayden: You're hurt. It's normal to feel frustrated, betrayed.
Katie: [Sighs] This is who Brooke is. I mean, this is who she's been her entire life. It's part of her identity. I-I shouldn't let it get to me.
Dr. Hayden: There is no right or wrong way to react to something like this. You're just gonna have to work through it the best way you can.
Katie: The crazy thing is that I can't -- I can't stand the thought of cutting her out of my life. I mean, she's my sister, and we used to have a really good relationship. I just -- I don't know how I can believe in her again. I mean, knowing how she feels about my husband, how can I ever have faith in her again?
Dr. Hayden: She's gonna have to prove it to you -- prove that she's trustworthy, give you what you need to feel safe in that relationship.
Katie: I just don't want to let it consume me. I'm not. I'm not gonna let that happen. Especially tonight. You know what? I'm -- I'm gonna cook, and we're gonna have a family meal, just me and Bill and our son. And that's what I'm gonna focus on.
Dr. Hayden: Good.
Katie: I love my sister. [Sighs] I can't help it. [Chuckles] But I can feel her circling. And I have to protect myself and my son and my husband. Because I'm not gonna lose them. They mean too much to me, and I'm not going to lose them to Brooke.
Nicole: I want you to know that I don't regret my decision. Not for one minute. I'm happy that I can do this for you and Rick. It's an honor to be your surrogate. Doesn't mean it's been easy.
Maya: I know it hasn't.
Nicole: I wish that it could have worked out between Zende and me. I really hoped it would. Sad that it didn't, but... more than that, I'm ashamed.
Nicole: For...being insecure, for feeling bad about my body, myself, the way I look.
Maya: Nicole, you've never been pregnant before. Of course you're gonna feel strange. Your body feels completely different.
Nicole: Yeah. I wish that I felt beautiful, desirable, but I don't. So, I shut Zende down. I pushed him away because I didn't feel sexy. I didn't want him to see me with my clothes off. And now our relationship is over. And I'm not blaming myself. I don't blame him, either. Look, Zende's a catch. He's a great guy. I'm afraid he won't be alone for long.
[Knock on door]
Sasha: [Chuckles] Ooh. Now, I heard about the views in Beverly Hills, but this -- this is priceless..
Maya: You shouldn't feel badly about yourself. You are gorgeous and glowing. And any man would be lucky to be with you.
Nicole: Not that you're biased or anything.
Maya: You should be proud of yourself. I know I am.
Nicole: For what?
Maya: For being so mature. For empathizing with Zende instead of being angry with him.
Nicole: I wasn't fair to him. I took his support for granted. [Sighs] Only now do I realize just how selfish I was.
Sasha: I just wanted to make sure you were all right, weren't sitting here all alone, thinking about you-know-who.
Sasha: See, I kind of don't believe you. And you weren't that convincing at work, either.
Zende: I didn't realize it was my job to convince you of anything.
Sasha: [Chuckles] You know, you and I are a lot alike. Yep. Same beliefs, same values. Not everyone's as traditional as you and me.
Zende: You? Traditional?
Sasha: Um, compared to the Avants and their dysfunctional family? Oh, now going all Hollywood? I am an absolute saint.
Sasha: Look, I'm just saying it's good you nipped it in the bud. I love Nicole like a sister. We grew up together. But it's better that you didn't get involved with her and her crazy pregnancy. But I didn't come here to talk about Nicole. I came here for you.
Brooke: You sure you don't want me to whip up some dinner?
Rick: You know, Mom, I think it's just gonna be you and me tonight. Maya's still at the office consoling Nicole.
Brooke: I can't believe that happened -- that Zende broke up with Nicole.
Rick: Thank you.
Brooke: A shame.
Brooke: They made such a cute couple.
Rick: She's taking it pretty hard.
Brooke: I can imagine.
Rick: You know, I was thinking. Maybe we should get her out, you know? Do something. Get her mind off of things. What do you think?
Brooke: That sounds like a wonderful idea.
Rick: Before we do that, I wanted to ask about you. How are you doing?
Rick: Yeah? You sure?
Brooke: Yeah. Why?
Rick: Because you seem distracted. You're still worried about your sister, aren't you?
Katie: Look what I have! I have spaghetti and meatballs!
Bill: Oh, boy. Your favorite! [Chuckles]
Katie: Yes, all by myself. They're -- oh, gosh. Oops! Oh, that's okay. Let's see. Oh, my gosh.
Will: I'll pick it up.
Katie: Oh, Lord! [Laughs] Wow! I --
Will: You got it on my --
Katie: I did! I got it on your truck. I think your truck is hungry.
Will: Get it off of there.
Katie: Lord, I'm sorry about that.
Katie: Let's see. Just move this over here. [Chuckles] [Sighs] Here. You want some wine?
Bill: No, thank you.
Katie: Come on. It's dinner.
Bill: I'll pass.
Katie: Okay, fine. I'll just put that right here, and I will -- oh! My God.
Will: What happened?
Katie: I just don't know what's wrong with me tonight.
Bill: Oh, look at that. Mommy spilled a little bit. Hey, you know what we're gonna do? We're gonna go and wash that car.
Katie: Where are you going?
Bill: Come here.
Katie: Where are you going? We're having dinner.
Bill: Go with Daddy.
Bill: Yeah, we're gonna go wash your car.
Bill: We'll come back and see Mommy in a few minutes.
Katie: Damn it.
Sasha: You happy I came over? I'll take that as a "Yes." I can feel your heartbeat, how hot you are. It's been a long time for you, hasn't it?
Zende: Sasha --
Sasha: Shh. Don't feel guilty. We're young, single, no commitments.
Brooke: Katie is struggling, and I'm really concerned about her.
Rick: Is there anything that we can do to help?
Brooke: Honey, I don't even think she wants my help. All we can do is be there for her, let her know how much we love her, how much we support her, but she's gonna have to figure this out -- she and Bill, as a couple.
Bill: How's your appointment with Dr. Hayden go?
Bill: Did he agree that you should go back on your antidepressants?
Katie: I don't want to talk about the appointment, okay?
Bill: I am worried about you. You haven't been yourself lately.
Katie: We were having a nice family dinner. Everything was fine.
Bill: Everything is not fine, Katie. You fell asleep down here the other night. Will found you passed out on the couch.
Katie: I was not passed out.
Bill: You were passed out. You went off on your sister again. You're drinking more and more every day. Something is wrong.
Katie: I'm a little anxious, okay? I have a couple of drinks every now and then to turn my brain off. It's no big deal.
Bill: No, Katie. I have a drink, maybe a couple of drinks every now and then. This is a whole different deal. It's not healthy.
Katie: You mean I'm not healthy, right?
Bill: That's not what I said.
Katie: Don't you see what's happening here? She's circling.
Katie: I can feel her in this room with us. Can't you? I mean, do you think about her?
Bill: Katie, what are you doing?
Katie: I-I love you so much, and I just -- I don't want this to be happening. I don't want any of this to be happening.
Bill: I love you, too, and I am very concerned. This obsession with Brooke is not normal.
Katie: Why shouldn't I be obsessed? After everything she's done to us, why shouldn't I be obsessed with that?
Bill: Nothing happened. Nothing is going to happen. This is in your imagination.
Katie: Is it?
Bill: Yes, it is, and the drinking isn't helping. It's making things worse.
Katie: I don't think it's all in my head. Sorry.
Bill: Nothing is happening between Brooke and me.
Katie: Just think -- think about us, about how amazing we are together and how -- how much of a team we are. We're good, but I can -- I can feel you slipping away from me. I can feel that I'm losing you.
Bill: You are not losing me. But you can't push me away, either, with your fears and your insecurities, your drinking. Look at me. You said it before. The only person who can undermine our marriage is right here in this room. Don't do it, Katie. Don't do it.
Katie: [Crying] I don't want to, but -- but I hurt so bad. I hurt so bad. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. [Crying]
