Brooke: Good morning, sweetie.
Brooke: There's coffee.
Hope: Oh, good. I need it. I was up all night re-watching that video that Liam made for Steffy.
Brooke: Oh, Dear, I don't think watching that video over and over again was really a good idea.
Hope: It was a terrible idea, but I'm trying to -- I don't know -- see inside it or something or figure out if there's more to it than what Liam is saying. I finally thought that I was free of her. I finally thought that she was done dictating my life, but... now I'm wondering if that's ever gonna happen. Maybe for Liam, Steffy will always be a factor.
Katie: So, I'm excited. A little nervous, which is normal -- it's my first official board meeting as C.E.O. Liam.
Liam: Yeah, sorry. What?
Katie: Nothing. So, I heard Hope got upset over some video that you made for Steffy.
Liam: It wasn't like a statement or anything. It was just a favor Steffy asked for, like a goodbye thing, but Hope wasn't buying it.
Katie: You have to understand that this is kind of a hot button for Hope.
Liam: It doesn't have to be, but I-I know. Listen, I don't -- I don't think I'm gonna go to this meeting. I got to make this right with Hope. Is that okay?
Liam: Hey, is Dad coming?
Katie: I don't know. I guess we'll find out.
Danielle: It's a new dawn around here.
Justin: For the moment.
Justin: I've learned to never count Bill out, even if it seems like he's down.
Katie: Good morning, everyone. Thank you all for coming. We have a lot to go over, so let's get started.
Justin: Shouldn't we wait for Bill?
Katie: Why? Could someone please close the door?
Bill: You weren't gonna start without me, were you, Katie?
Katie: Bill, I'm glad you could join us.
Bill: Are you?
Katie: Of course. Your input is always welcome. You've contributed a lot to this company.
Bill: Contributed. I am this company.
Katie: Well, you certainly were. And we all appreciate your past efforts, but things have changed, and many of those changes are on today's agenda, so let's get started. Would you like to take a seat?
Bill: You're in my seat.
Katie: Find another one.
Bill: I'll stand.
Bill: Danielle, what a surprise. Oh, let me guess. You're here as Karen's proxy because she is busy yet again.
Katie: Moving on, I would like to assure anyone with any doubts that I am capable and excited to move Spencer Publications into the future.
Bill: And we need that, since, under my leadership, we were stuck forever in the dark ages -- no technological advancement, no innovation, no evolution.
Katie: Well, of course that's not what I meant, but there is a new C.E.O., and I have different priorities, and I would like to address them, if you don't mind.
Bill: I don't mind.
Hope: That video that Liam made for Steffy -- it really made me rethink everything.
Brooke: Including marrying Liam?
Hope: What if Steffy comes back and she decides to stake another claim? I don't want to live that way. I don't want to live constantly wondering when the bomb is gonna go off.
Brooke: I know you don't. And I don't want you to live that way, either. Especially since there are other possibilities. I know you like Wyatt.
Hope: Very much. But it's not the same.
Brooke: Given time, maybe it could be. I'm not trying to push anything. I'm just saying since you and Liam are at crossroads because of that video, you might as well explore your options.
Hope: I think I'm gonna go down to the cabin and sort this all out.
Brooke: I'm here if you need me.
Hope: I know.
Caroline: Hey, Cuz. You want to have lunch later?
Liam: Uh...pbht. Rain check?
Caroline: You okay?
Liam: You know what? Not really. Hope walked out on me at Big Bear, and...I don't even know where we stand.
Brooke: What did you want to talk about?
Wyatt: My mother was with you when Hope called. Apparently she was very upset. She left Big Bear without Liam.
Wyatt: What did he do to her? What kind of damage has he inflicted this time? And where is Hope so I can help try to fix it?
Katie: Spencer Publications has been spending money as if we're in an economic boom, mostly on high-ticket luxury items that rarely, if ever, get used.
Bill: First rule of business, Katie -- you have to spend money to make money.
Katie: Well, that may be, but are we spending our valuable resources in the best way? I've decided to keep the company jet for the time being until I can assess its value, but the Stella Maris is an extravagance that we don't need.
Bill: Do you know how many deals I have closed on that yacht? It more than pays for itself.
Katie: Not anymore. I'm also considering selling the Aspen retreat. I think we already have a buyer.
Bill: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait a second. That's my house.
Danielle: Karen has found a storage space for your personal things, so they'll be safe until you have time to retrieve them.
Bill: Nobody touches my things.
Katie: I'm sure they'll be safe in storage.
Jerry: This feels more like divorce court than a board meeting. You want to give up the yacht, the house? Let Bill have them.
Bill: Thank you, Jerry.
Katie: The company pays for the yacht and the house. They don't belong to Bill.
Bill: The company can afford them because of my stewardship. You want to jump in there, Jimbo?
Jim: Maybe a leaner Spencer Publications is the way to go. A woman's sensibility isn't necessarily a bad thing. A more compassionate approach to employee relations, like ending the practice of letting people go before their pensions kick in.
Katie: Why would we ever do that?
Bill: It's called managing a business, Katie.
Katie: Well, it makes zero sense. If people think that we're going to fire them before their pensions kick in, why would they be loyal to us? Why would they want to work hard for us? It's an extremely short-sighted way to save money. And we're not just managing a business, Bill. We're also managing people. We need a productive, dedicated workforce in order to thrive. I think a lot of our policies of the past have taken a short view of what this company can be. I want to take a longer view. There are going to be some changes around here. You're not in charge anymore, Bill. I am. So, do what's right for the company and accept it.
Brooke: Hope wants to be alone right now. She's very upset.
Wyatt: Because Liam did something. What did he do?
Wyatt: Look, I am crazy about your daughter, Brooke. And I won't use whatever you tell me to gain an advantage. I-I just want to be there.
Brooke: Liam made a video tribute for Hope.
Wyatt: I saw it on the plane ride back from Mexico. Hope loved that. Why would that be a problem now?
Brooke: Because he made another one for Steffy. And somebody e-mailed it to Hope while she was in Big Bear with Liam, and it was probably Steffy.
Wyatt: Hope must have been crushed.
Brooke: You can imagine.
Wyatt: I can. You can. Why can't Liam? I mean, he's -- he's supposed to love her. He's supposed to be the guy that protects her and guards her feelings. Instead, he -- he disrespects Hope. From what I've heard, you've been Hope and Liam's biggest supporter. Tell me, Brooke, is this constant mistreatment of your daughter really okay with you?
Katie: I want to extend maternity leave. I also, in the buildings that have room for them, want to put in daycare centers, and I also think that we should look at our environmental impact. I think there are ways that we can lessen our footprint.
Bill: Wow. And you call me profligate? You have any idea how much this is gonna cost, Katie?
Danielle: Money well spent.
Justin: Bill is right. The items that you're proposing will cancel out any cost-cutting that you want to do.
Katie: The benefits I'm suggesting, I realize, cost money. I am simply saying that maybe we should reallocate some of our funds to pay for them. Instead of hemorrhaging money on luxury items that benefit only a few, let's invest in our workforce. If our employees feel that we care about them and their needs, they're going to come to work, they're going to be happy, they're going to work hard, and they're going to continue to make us lots and lots of money. It's just good business sense.
Bill: Since it's my vision that has gotten this company to where it is today, I'm fairly comfortable with my own sense of business. Having said that, we offer our employees good benefits and competitive salaries. What they do with it is up to them. And what you're going to do with your feel-good ideas is drive this company off a cliff. And I'm not going to watch as you destroy what has taken me years to build.
Katie: I hardly think extending maternity leave and offering daycare services is going to drive this company off a cliff. But you're right -- we do have different visions for where this company is headed. And your objections are duly noted, and you can leave at any time.
Bill: And you can take my objections and stick them...in a safe place where you can refer to them, because you will refer to them. What I have given you are hard truths.
Katie: Okay. I think we've had enough. Why don't we take a break? I need to talk to Bill alone. Thank you.
Brooke: Am I okay with Liam hurting my daughter yet again? No. I'm not. In fact, I'm kind of sick of it. She deserves better.
Wyatt: And she'd have that with me...and a whole lot more.
Brooke: [Sighs] Look, I know you're fond of her.
Wyatt: [Chuckles] I am way past "Fond of her." Ever since I looked into those beautiful eyes... Hope's it for me. I just want to remind her of that, maybe, just in case she wants to hear it again. Is she upstairs? Is she upstairs right now?
Brooke: Wyatt, Wyatt, wait. [Sighs] You know that cabin we have on the property?
Wyatt: I know where it is. Thank you.
Caroline: Do you know what's bothering me? Who sent the video to Hope? I mean, the obvious person is Steffy.
Liam: No. I called and asked.
Caroline: Do you believe her?
Liam: Steffy doesn't lie to me. But it is bothering me, too, because whoever it was had access to my tablet.
Caroline: And wanted to cause problems for you and Hope.
Liam: Kind of narrows the field, doesn't it?
Caroline: What are you thinking?
[Knock on door]
Wyatt: I know you weren't expecting me, but, um...could I come inside anyways?
Wyatt: I just spoke with your mother. Um... I know about the dueling videos.
Hope: Oh. Good. So, I don't have to explain it to you.
Wyatt: [Scoffs] It's unconscionable. I mean, does that guy have any clue how insensitive he is? No. Of course not. Because it's always about Liam. At any given time, it's always about Liam, and... I saw how much that video meant to you.
Hope: Liam swore to me -- he swore that I would never have to deal with Steffy ever again. And -- and he just keeps pulling her back, or she's pulling him. I don't -- it's exhausting. I don't know.
Wyatt: And monumentally disrespectful.
Hope: And that's what Liam doesn't see. He doesn't get that, and -- and that's why it bothers me so much.
Wyatt: It's about time. [Chuckles] Stop the madness, Hope. Walk away. Walk this way.
Bill: Let's make this clear right from the top. I'm not gonna listen to a rookie trying to educate me.
Katie: You know, I was really hoping that we could work together. Because it wasn't too long ago that we made a pretty good team. But I guess that's not gonna happen. You know, all I ever wanted was our family.
Bill: But how quickly you settled for my company instead.
Katie: Well, I had to walk away with something.
Bill: Well, congratulations.
Katie: I don't want to fight with you, Bill. I really don't. But things have settled into how they're going to be, and it's not gonna change. I'm not going to roll over. I'm not going to crumble. I have a vision for this company, and I really wish you'd get on board for it.
Bill: Katie, you have about as much vision as a deer caught in the headlights. That's why you need help. That's why you need the benefit of my experience -- because you don't have any. But I'm not interested. You want Spencer Publications? You got it. Run it yourself. Run it as you see fit. Run it into the ground. I really don't care anymore.
Katie: But you do care. This makes me so sad. [Chuckles] I think of the beautiful, glorious way we started, and look where we are -- you with my sister and me with your company, our family decimated -- it's nothing I ever could have foreseen or predicted. It's nothing I ever wanted.
Liam: Listen, I understand why Hope is upset.
Brooke: Do you?
Liam: Yeah, I-I do. Seeing the video that I made for Steffy -- that hurt. That hurt a lot. I-I get that. I would give anything to take it back, and I can't. But Hope needed some time to think, and now I need to talk to her, so that we can work this out and move forward with our wedding, so I need you to tell me where she is, Brooke. Where -- where is Hope?
Wyatt: You need to take that ring off and end this. I mean, do you know how special you are? Or has the way that Liam treated you made you feel like you don't deserve any better? He'll keep doing it -- letting you down and just drowning you in his indecision. That's who he is. But I've got no fallback Steffy. You are the only woman in my life, the only woman that I want to be with. And I can't prove that to you if you're still wearing that ring. It's time to cut him loose. Take a chance, Hope. Give me a chance. A man who knows how to treat you and values you and knows how lucky he is to have you -- I want to be that guy.
