[Tires screeching]

[Metal crashing]

[Sea gulls calling]

Bill: Brooke, are you there?

Brooke: Yes, I'm here.

Bill: What's happening?

Brooke: I...

Bill: Brooke, something's wrong.

Brooke: [Sighs] I-I don't know. [Sighs] I shouldn't have called.

Bill: Brooke, you have to talk to me. You know, if you ask me, I'll -- I'll be there.

Brooke: Yeah. I-I'm sorry. It's just -- it's a moment of weakness on my part. I-I'll be fine. I-I've got to go.

[Cell phone beeps]

[Cell phone beeps]

Hope: Oh, hey, Mom.

Brooke: [Sighs] Hi, Honey. Where've you been?

Hope: Uh, Taylor's beach house.

Brooke: To see Thomas?

Hope: Oliver. He just moved in. They invited me over.

Brooke: Oliver and Thomas living together -- that should be interesting. I'm sure there'll be a lot of beach parties. Are you okay?

Hope: [Sighs] I don't know. I ran into Steffy.

Liam: [Sighs]

[Telephone ringing]

Thomas: Liam. What's up?

Liam: Hey, Thomas. I'm looking for Steffy. Is she still over there?

Thomas: Nope. She left a little while ago.

Liam: Like, long enough ago to be home by now?

Thomas: Well, there was a major accident on PCH, so... uh...traffic's backed up. It's gonna take her a while.

Liam: Yeah, that sounds about right. All right. Thanks, man. I appreciate it.

Thomas: No problem.

Liam: Okay.

[Cell phone beeps]

Liam: [Sighs]

[Siren wails in distance]

Liam: Geez! I didn't see you!

[Sirens wailing]

Caroline: This a bad time, Uncle Bill?

Bill: Nope. Not for you. Not for my niece. Come on in here. What brings you by?

Caroline: I brought you something.

Bill: A gift?

Caroline: Mm-hmm.

Bill: Wow.

Caroline: I just wanted to say thank you for your amazing donation. You helped me set a record.

Bill: [Chuckles] Well, good. I'm glad to hear that. Thank you.

Caroline: Well, you're welcome. It's just a token of appreciation, so... all right, well, I will let you get back to it.

Bill: Uh, h-h-hang on, there. Sit down. Turn your phone off.

Caroline: Turn it off?

Bill: Give it.

Caroline: But why?

Bill: Because I don't want to compete for your attention with your cell phone. So... give it.

Caroline: [Sighs] Okay.

Bill: There you go. Good girl. Sit down. How's it going with Rick?

Caroline: [Sighs] Not great. [Chuckles]

Bill: Maya?

Caroline: It's like... she's set up shop in Rick's head, and now he's just biding time, waiting for the right moment to break up with me so that he can be with her. [Voice breaking] And I've diverted him so far, but I can't keep doing that for much longer.

Bill: I don't like hearing that.

Caroline: You know, it's not even the fact that we were together first. It's that I really do think that Rick being with Maya could be disastrous for him. He needs a woman who can complement him, who can function credibly in his world.

Bill: You're right about that. A man has to have a partner who reflects well on him.

Caroline: Exactly. And... this Maya person is an ex-con who gave away her illegitimate child. And that's just what we know about her. Who knows what kind of bombshells are out there, just waiting to go off in Rick's face? And -- [Crying] And I love him. I don't -- I don't want him to be blindsided like that. And -- she's so cunning and manipulative. I mean, look how she already latched on to Rick. Now she's a spokesperson for Hope for the Future? Rick and I were happy. We -- we made plans. And he was -- he was crazy about me. I'm sorry. I... I -- [Sobbing] I love him so much, and it hurts so bad!

Bill: You hang in there.

Caroline: [Sobs]

Bill: I'm confident things are gonna work out for you.

[Siren wailing]

[Police radio chatter]

EMT: Blue team to ICU, please. Blue team, ICU.

Dr. Meade: What've we got?

EMT: Female victim, early 20s, unconscious and unresponsive. Motorcycle accident wearing a helmet.

Dr. Meade: Vitals?

EMT: B.P. -- 170/100. Heart rate -- 115. Respiration's at 24.

Dr. Meade: Seizures or posturing during transport?

EMT: No -- unresponsive to stimulus during transport.

Dr. Meade: Thank you. Oh, my God. Steffy.

Hope: You are showing incredible restraint not asking about what happened between me and Steffy today.

Brooke: Well, I am curious, but only if you want to tell me.

Hope: All right. Why not? So... Oliver and Thomas invited some people over to the beach house to go surfing. You know, just a few of us -- me and Maya and Teresa and Donovan.

Brooke: Donovan?

Hope: A surf instructor.

Brooke: Oh.

Hope: Anyway, um... I just wasn't in the mood. I really didn't feel like it, so I was gonna leave. And I went into the back bedroom to get my bag... and Steffy shows up. And she and Thomas start talking about how blissfully happy her life is with Liam, and how he pampers her all the time, and how they're "Nesting" and how perfect their life is.

Brooke: Did she know you were there?

Hope: No, she didn't. I -- I didn't want her to see me... like this. [Chuckles] I-I-I didn't want to walk out there, and so I waited until she left, and then I just -- I just sat on the couch, and I was just crying and crying. And then I hear the door open... and Steffy walks in.

Brooke: She didn't gloat, did she?

Hope: No, she didn't. She was actually really sensitive and considerate. [Sighs] Oh, Mom, I hate this. I hate it. I don't -- I don't want to fight with her. What's the point? It still kills me. I mean, Liam made his choice. They're -- they're having a baby together, and now they are this tight family unit. So I sucked it up... and I wished her well.

[Cell phone ringing]

Liam: Hey. You still stuck in traffic?

Dr. Meade: Liam, its Dr. Meade. There's been an accident. Steffy was just brought into the E.R.

Caroline: Eh. [Sniffles] I'm sorry for getting all girly and bawling all over your shirt.

Bill: You think crying is a sign of weakness?

Caroline: I never really thought of it, but I suppose so. Don't you agree?

Bill: Mm, well, you know, this might surprise you, 'cause your uncle doesn't cry a lot, but, well, I think, for some people, it's healthy, allows the mind to clear, gives you clarity.

Caroline: [Sighs] I'm clear. Rick is going to break up with me, probably tonight.

Bill: You have plans?

Caroline: Yeah, a bunch of us. I'm sure Maya, too. You know Othello the deejay?

Bill: Rick's friend? The one who lied to Hope?

Caroline: That's him. He's playing at this club in Hollywood, and everybody's all excited, and me -- I have this feeling of impending doom.

Bill: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait, wait, wait a second. Now, what is this defeatist attitude? You're a Spencer. We don't give in. We see what we want, and we take it. Maybe something will happen to open Rick's eyes and allow him to see this Maya for who she really is. Ain't over till it's over.

Alison: Sorry to interrupt, but you wanted me to come in as soon as Justin called with that information you wanted.

Bill: Yes. I'm anxious to see it.

Caroline: All right, well, that is my cue. Thank you for listening, and sorry for the tears.

Bill: Try not to worry. I think things are gonna come your way.

Caroline: Thank you for being such an optimist. My phone.

Bill: Oh. Here you go. All right. Get out of here.

Alison: Caroline doesn't look very happy.

Bill: No, she's not, but I'm about to change that. Maya Avant -- what do you have for me?

[Elevator bell dings]

Liam: Excuse me. Um, Dr. Meade, hey. What happened? How is she?

Dr. Meade: Motorcycle accident. She was found unconscious at the scene, and that hasn't changed. She doesn't appear to have any broken bones, but she was banged up pretty badly. I suspect she might have a concussion.

Liam: What? Why was -- never mind. I got to see her. I got to see my wife.

Brooke: You wished Steffy well? That was generous of you, considering everything she's put you through.

Hope: She's my stepsister, and I don't want to fight with her over something that's already been resolved. She and Liam are together now. They're having a baby together, and they're doing the right thing. They're giving this child a stable home with two loving parents. It's time for me to...bow out gracefully and face that there is no place for me in Liam's life anymore.

Brooke: Oh, Honey. It makes me sad to hear you say that.

Hope: It is sad. Because it should have been me. I should have been married to him. I should have had his children. That was the plan. But people interfered with that plan, and -- and this is how it turned out. I don't like it. I hate it. But I have to accept it. I just don't know how I'm supposed to do that.

[Monitors beeping]

Alison: According to that, the man who was in Maya's life is Jesse Graves.

Bill: Incarcerated?

Alison: Past tense. Recently released due to prison overcrowding. Even though her guilty verdict was overturned, Maya's release was conditional and enforced by a restraining order. She has to keep away from this guy or she could go back to jail.

Bill: [Laughs] This is almost too easy.

Alison: Let me guess. Maya won't be staying away from Jesse.

Bill: Exactly. This information is going to fall into the judge's hands who released her. I like it -- nice and clean.

Alison: I don't get it. Maya isn't exactly a big threat. Why are you going after her?

Bill: Maya is a threat to my family.

Alison: Because of a little flirtation with Rick?

Bill: Rick belongs to Caroline.

Alison: You're ruthless.

Bill: When it comes to my family, absolutely, and I make no apologies for it. Maya is a threat to my niece's happiness. Threats have to be removed, and that's exactly what I'm going to do.

Brooke: Oh, Honey. This won't be easy, and your heart won't magically heal. And you'll be watching Liam and Steffy together, raising their child. It's going to be one of the hardest things you've ever had to do. But these things happen for a reason, and you learn from them, and you grow. And you have grown...a lot. I'm so proud of you.

Hope: I don't know why. I feel like all I've managed to do is lose everything I care about.

Brooke: Sometimes we think that we understand our destiny, but we really don't know where it's going. It's full of surprises. And relationships happen to learn about yourself and about other people and to gather the tools to move on to the next. I know this is hard for you to fathom right now, but someday you will understand why this all happened.

Hope: It's just [Sighs] It's just hard to think that there could be a time when I-I don't want Liam and I don't lay in bed at night thinking about what I did wrong or what I didn't do at all.

Brooke: I-I know. I know that is hard, but you just have to forget about that, and you just have to get up every morning and go about your day and believe in yourself.

Hope: Yes, and -- yeah, yeah. And that's -- you know, that's what I'm trying to do. You know, I've decided to throw myself into Hope for the Future and believe that I can be in another relationship, you know, with, you know, someone like Oliver, who really, really does care about me.

Brooke: Oh, yeah. Well, you should think about that.

Hope: Yeah. I mean, I-I can't right now. It just -- it wouldn't be fair because I'm not...there yet.

Brooke: Life is full of surprises around every corner. They could be exciting and wonderful, and you just have to be open to them.

Hope: Thank you.

[Monitors beeping]

Liam: Hey, Steffy? I'm gonna need you to wake up and be okay, okay? Can you do that? I don't even -- I-I -- what were you doing on your motorcycle? I'm sorry. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. All that matters is you and our baby. You know she's pregnant? She's... [Sighs] You are so beautiful... and so still. You're never still. Um, Doctor, you -- you didn't say anything about... I mean, is -- is our baby okay?
