Hope: Liam? Liam, are you in here?
Steffy: (Inhales sharply) Aah.
Liam: Is it hurting right now?
Steffy: Yeah. Yeah.
Steffy: Pretty bad.
Dr. Meade: Hello, Guys.
Steffy: Uh, Dr. Meade!
Dr. Meade: Steffy.
Steffy: Oh, my God! It's been a while. Oh!
Dr. Meade: (Laughs) Nice to see you.
Steffy: Um, this is-- this is my husband Liam.
Dr. Meade: Nice to meet you, Liam.
Liam: Hi, Doctor. Nice to meet you.
Steffy: Wait, so since when are you practicing here?
Dr. Meade: I, uh, love to ski, have an office here during the season.
Steffy: Oh, wow. Well, I-I guess you'll be... (Winces) Going back to L.A. soon. Aah. (Inhales sharply)
Dr. Meade: Yeah, another couple of weeks.
Steffy: (Winces) Ooh. Aah.
Liam: So how is her knee?
Dr. Meade: You know what? We need to do an M.R.I., assess the damage... take it from there. Your knee took most of the weight when you landed. Expect it to hurt for a while, but you'll live.
Steffy: Good to know.
Dr. Meade: Good to see you.
Liam: Thank you very much.
Steffy: Thanks. Thanks.
Dr. Meade: Nice to meet you.
Steffy: See? I'm fine. You can--you can go. Mm-hmm.
Liam: I'm not leaving you.
Steffy: You haven't, not for a second since you found me. I would have been really terrified alone on that mountain, but I, uh, I am in good hands now, so, um, you know what? Hope's probably wondering where you are.
Liam: Yeah, no, I know. I'm--I'm gonna call her and tell her where I am.
Steffy: Yeah, no, you know, just talk to her in person. Yeah.
Liam: Are you kicking me out?
Steffy: I suppose I could take advantage. You know, whine about my knee, make you feel guilty about leaving me. But I'm--I don't want to be that person anymore.
Liam: (Chuckles) Well, if you want to whine, if you want some company...
Steffy: Go! Go.
Liam: All right. All right, check in with me.
Steffy: I will. I promise.
(Cell phone rings)
Hope: (Sighs) Finally. Mm. Oh. Hi, Mom.
Brooke: I, Honey. Just checking in. (Sighs) How are you doing?
Hope: I'm fine.
Brooke: And what about Steffy? I mean, any aftereffects from that collision?
Hope: Uh, I haven't seen Steffy since the mountain, actually.
Brooke: Should we be worried?
Hope: No. I mean... no. When I left Steffy, she was fine.
Brooke: Okay. (Sighs) Well, why don't you text me when everybody's accounted for?
Hope: Okay, I will!
Taylor: You left messages for both of us to come over here?
Stephanie: Yeah, that doesn't sound good.
Brooke: Okay, no need to be alarmed. Nobody was hurt.
Taylor: Is this about Steffy? Is she okay?
Brooke: Hope and Steffy were going down the same slope at the same time, and they collided. But don't worry. Everybody's fine.
Steffy: Do you know how long I have to stay here?
Woman: Until the doctor releases you.
Steffy: You think you can get an estimate?
Woman: I'll, uh, see if I can look into it.
Steffy: Thank you.
Ramona: I ran into Hope on the mountain.
Steffy: (Chuckles) Oh. You, too? Eh, the girl's a menace.
Ramona: (Chuckles) Well, she told me you collided, but it was no big deal. So why are you in the hospital?
Steffy: Uh, my knee hurt worse than Hope realized, but, um, I'll live. Liam found me, and he signaled for the ski patrol, but while we were waiting, he just... held me in his arms. I could really feel the electricity between us, just holding us together, keeping us together. And after the rescue crew brought me own, Liam insisted on staying at the hospital with me. He'd still be here if I hadn't sent him back to Hope.
Ramona: To Hope? (Scoffs) What, did you land on your head or something?
Hope: (Exhales slowly) (Sighs heavily) (Sighs) "Where... are... you?"
Liam: I'm right here.
Hope: Liam! Hey, I was getting so worried.
Liam: Actually, you know what? I'm worried... about you.
Steffy: How did you know I was here?
Ramona: Oh, I'm friendly with a few of the guys on ski patrol. One of them picked up the phone.
Steffy: Mm. Hey, um, I want to talk to you, but can you just hang out for a sec? I-I should call my mom.
Ramona: Sure. Yeah.
(Cell phone rings)
Taylor: Steffy. Are you all right, Honey?
Steffy: I'm fine.
Taylor: Oh, my God. Well... (Sighs) I heard about the accident from--from Brooke, a-and Hope said you were okay, but when I didn't hear from you, I was getting very worried.
Steffy: Well, I-I couldn't call sooner. It took some time to get rescued and then settled in to the hospital.
Taylor: Hospital? Wha... Hope told her mother that you were fine.
Steffy: Well, she didn't know. I-I guess I-I fell on my knee or something. It hurts like hell, but it's not a game-changer. We're just waiting for the M.R.I. results.
Taylor: Please tell me you didn't hit your head.
Steffy: I didn't, Mom.
Taylor: (Sighs) Honey, are you alone?
Steffy: No, actually, uh, Ramona's here with me. (Laughs) Um, Liam was here, too. He found me on the mountain, and, uh, he stayed by my side the whole time. He was even there when ski patrol showed up.
Taylor: So the ride was worth the fall?
Steffy: Depends on how long it hurts.
Taylor: I cannot believe you're in the hospital again.
Steffy: Oh, yeah, tell me about it.
Taylor: Do you need anything? Do you... (Sighs) Do you need me to bring you anything?
Steffy: No, Mom, I'm fine. Thank you. I will, uh, I'll call you with the M.R.I. results, all right? Love you. (Hangs up cell phone) Look, we need to get something straight.
Ramona: Wh-- what's on your mind?
Steffy: Are you and Bill responsible for the way Hope's been hounded by the press here in Aspen? Because I want it to stop.
Hope: I'm--I'm really sorry that I lost you on the slopes. I thought you were right behind me, and then you weren't, and I waited for you at the ski lodge. Where were you?
Liam: I was with Steffy.
Hope: I-I didn't realize.
Liam: Yeah, I'm sure you don't.
Hope: Okay, obviously, something is bothering you. What did she say?
Liam: What do you have to say?
Hope: I-I bumped into her, but it wasn't a big deal. I thought we could all meet down at the bottom.
Liam: You guys collided. She was standing still, and you mowed her over.
Hope: "Mowed her"-- I-I'm sorry. Is that how she told it?
Liam: Is that not what happened?
Hope: Liam, I-- she just appeared out of nowhere. I didn't see her.
Liam: Oh. (Chuckles)
Hope: We both went down, and then we were both fine.
Liam: You were both fine? How'd you come to that conclusion?
Hope: Because she said she was. Liam, people get tangled up all the time. It really wasn't a big deal.
Liam: Hope, did you see her get up?
Hope: She--no, she said she was all right. Liam, she was. Uh, if she was hurt, she would have told me. She's obviously milking this for drama, Liam. You've gotta see that.
Liam: I don't think it's dramatic because of Steffy. I think it's dramatic because a doctor told me so. I just came from the hospital, you know that? Steffy can't walk.
Taylor: So now we're just waiting on an M.R.I. everything seems to be fine, except there--there is a concern about her knee.
Stephanie: Well, it could have been worse.
Taylor: I know.
Brooke: It's really crazy. I mean, out of all the people there in Aspen, Hope and Steffy manage to collide on the mountaintop. (Chuckles) I would definitely call that fate.
Stephanie: Oh... (Scoffs) It's not fate. It's just some big ol' dumb joke. (Sighs) God.
Brooke: Oh, come on, Stephanie. After all of the things that have happened to us through the years, you still don't believe in fate?
Stephanie: I-I guess I just never had the luxury of being starry-eyed. But I have to tell you, this whole situation really distresses me. Here we have these two beautiful young women, their whole lives ahead of them, endless possibilities in this world. And instead of figuring out who they are and what their place is, no, they're chasing Liam. They shouldn't be chasing Liam or any other fellow.
Taylor: Oh, believe me...
Taylor: I'm with you on that. I--you won't get an argument out of me on that one.
Brooke: But it is upsetting, that they're falling in to the same patterns that we did.
Taylor: That being said, no matter what Steffy wants, as long as she's happy, then I'm going to support her.
Brooke: As I will, Hope.
Taylor: At least Steffy isn't the one bending the rules. She is Liam's wife.
Steffy: It's a simple question, Ramona. You can answer with one word. Did you and Bill sic the press on Hope?
Steffy: I can practically feel him in the room.
Ramona: Maybe you're conditioned to expecting his hand in everything.
Steffy: Friends don't lie to each other.
Ramona: (Exhales slowly)
Steffy: I can understand why you feel you had to. Bill's mega-powerful. He's also your boss. And if you try to expose him when he's trying to fly under the radar, he'd ruin you.
Ramona: Look, Hope's problems with the press are her own making. That's nothing new.
Steffy: So... that's your story, and you're stickin it?
Woman: Steffy, I'm sorry. We need your insurance card again.
Steffy: Oh. Oh, okay.
Steffy: Yeah. Oh, uh, sorry. I'm sorry. Mm... here you go.
Liam: I mean, no broken bones. It's probably a ligament in her knee...
Liam: Or--or something. They don't know. They don't--they don't know. They were taking her in for an M.R.I. when I left.
Hope: (Sighs) Okay, I have to get my coat. We have to find out how she is.
Liam: No, actually, Hope, even Steffy thought it'd be more important for me to find you.
Hope: Okay, well, I don't blame her for being furious with me.
Liam: No, she's not. She's not furious. That's the thing. If anything, she's concerned. I mean, she knows how badly the press has treated you out here. But what's wrong with this picture, Hope? I mean, what-- why should somebody that you left stranded and injured on the side of the mountain feel that you getting chased by press is a bigger crisis?
Hope: I'm sorry. I know I shouldn't have left her there, and I don't know why I did.
Liam: Yeah. Yeah, well, you know, I wonder.
Hope: I don't know what you mean by that.
Liam: (Chuckles) I've--I've been dreading asking you this question since they brought Steffy down the mountain, since driving over here from the hospital, and I think you know what it is.
Hope: Maybe I shouldn't have come to Aspen. I just wanted to be with you, Liam. Then being harassed by all the paparazzi just brought everything to light again, and I couldn't help but wonder if I really was a hypocrite and a home-wrecker, and it just got so overwhelming.
Liam: So you had a few pills left, and you took one.
Ramona: So what is that?
Steffy: The infamous annulment papers. Everyone just keeps asking me to sign them.
Ramona: Which you keep saying no.
Steffy: I did.
Ramona: Past tense?
Steffy: (Sighs) Love is... it's supposed to be the ultimate feel-good drug. It conquers all. Love is supposed to be the greatest gift life has to offer... except when it doesn't work out that way. And it hasn't, not for Liam and me, not for Hope and Liam, and not for Hope and me. It's been this vicious cycle, and we just keep hurting each other. Someone has to finally say "Enough," and I guess that'll have to be me.
Ramona: So you're just giving up on Liam?
Steffy: No, I will-- I will never give up on Liam. We just have to find our own way back differently. There's just too much pain. It's time for me to let him go.
Hope: I panicked, Liam. I hardly knew what I was doing.
Liam: You looked me in the eyes, and you swore that you were done with all this.
Hope: I know, and I meant it.
Liam: Then why do you still have pills, Hope?!
Hope: I didn't know I had them. Apparently, they were just in my makeup case. Uh, Liam, I felt cornered. Even in the house, I felt cornered. They were looking through the windows taking pictures of me.
Liam: Oh, come on. They're reporters, they're not armed terrorists. I mean, why didn't you pick up the phone and--and call the property manager? I gave you the number. Why didn't you call the police? Why didn't you call me?!
Hope: I know, it doesn't make sense! I know it doesn't make sense.
Liam: Why didn't you walk right up to the front door, open it, and tell them to get the hell off the property? These people don't want to be arrested! They'll leave. You're not a coward, Hope. So what the hell is wrong with you?
Hope: I don't know. I keep asking myself the same question.
Liam: Yeah, well, the pills. The pills! For one thing, they're unprescribed. You--you don't know what the hell is in them, aside from what some web site says operating from God knows where. Hope, I walked away from my marriage because it began in lies. I mean, is this... am I gonna end up doing the same thing all over again?
Hope: I wasn't lying, Liam, and I never intended to... look, I know there's no excuse, and I can tell you over and over again that it-- it does something to me. Liam, it affects me when people say those things about me-- that I am a hypocrite, that I am an adulteress. And you're not gonna get it. But does that explain why Steffy is lying in a hospital bed right now? No, it doesn't. Nothing could. (Sighs) So... here, Liam. Here, take them away. Take them. Do whatever you want to do with them. I don't want them anymore. I love you, and I am not going to need another wake-up call. I am going to turn this around.
Liam: I just... you've said this before.
Hope: Liam, this is different. This is the end, I swear to you. Liam, you know me. You know that this is something that I cannot live with. This isn't something that I will allow to continue. You have got to believe me. You have got to forgive me. Give us another chance. Please.
