Bill: Did it ever occur to you that maybe your doctor's the one who's mistaken?
Katie: Oh, come on. You're not gonna keep denying this.
Bill: Katie, we got a second opinion. The diagnosis was confirmed.
Katie: By your personal physician and friend Ramón.
Bill: Can we just talk about this, please? Come on. Come on, talk to me. Come on.
Dr. Montgomery: Great. They're ready for you-- radiology.
Liam: (Hits chair arm) All right, thanks, Ramón.
Steffy: (Sighs) All right.
Dr. Montgomery: Yeah, they have a changing room, but, uh, your wallet, uh, jewelry, any-anything metallic you'll want to leave here with Liam.
Liam: Oh, I-I can't come?
Steffy: M.R.I.s are magnetic, and so are you. It'd be like when worlds collide.
Dr. Montgomery: I can, uh, I can walk you down.
Steffy: No, you know what? Um, I'm sure I can just-- I can find my own way. It's no big--
Dr. Montgomery: Uh, that's okay. I have some special instructions for the M.R.I. techs anyway.
Steffy: Dr. Montgomery, there are other people out there who need M.R.I.s far worse than I do.
Steffy: I really-- I feel perfectly fine, and look, if we're just doing this because I'm a Spencer and you're thinking you should spare no expense...
Dr. Montgomery: No, I, uh, I can promise you, I'm--I'm only thinking of my profession right now, so, um, shall we?
Liam: Get 'em.
Steffy: Thank you.
Hope: Just pretending to be.
Hope: Uh, thinking about retiring.
Thomas: (Chuckles) Is there a punch line? "Dear friends of Hope for the Future, maybe I was too young, too naive, too full of hope, by which I mean, too full of myself--" No, it-- Hope, you're not killing the line.
Hope: Yeah, you're right. I don't even know if I have the authority to do that. But it seems to me like it's already dead.
Liam: No, no, I-I won't be in the office today. I thought I might make it to the cover meeting, but, uh, I'm--I'm here, and my dad's doctor is gonna look at Steffy's M.R.I. right away. And-- I-I know. Nothing too good for Bill Spencer. Hey, but listen, I-I have my top picks from the photo shoot on my phone with me, so I'm just gonna send those to you as soon as I hang up. Great. All right, thanks, Alison.
Thomas: What do you mean, already dead?
Hope: Oh, just ignore me. I'm just thinking out loud.
Thomas: I'm just saying Hope for the Future is our best-selling line right now.
Hope: (Sighs) Yeah, well, that's really not saying much, considering our last collection was pirated, so we have nothing new to put on the shelves.
Thomas: Which is why we need to put more resources into Hope for the Future, not less.
Hope: Well, may--maybe I need to put some personal resources into me. Clearly, I have a lot to learn about life, and wearing pretty dresses and having my picture taken just isn't cutting it.
Thomas: Come on. Hope, you can't be serious. I mean, what other person your age has accomplished what you have already?
Hope: Just forget I said anything, okay?
Thomas: Hope, you know you can talk to me.
Hope: Do I? I'm sorry, Thomas. Have you given me any reason to believe that?
Bill: All right, now let's talk this through and be reasonable.
Katie: (Sighs) Good idea. I think you should think long and hard about challenging me on this, because you know I can prove what I say. Why don't we get the original test results from Cabo? Or better yet, let's take Steffy to another doctor and do another M.R.I., because we both know what the results will be-- that there's no blood clot, and there never was, and there's no reason for Liam to stay in this marriage. But you even care about that, Bill? I have suspected from the very beginning that this was about keeping Steffy close. That's why you did all this.
Katie: You can't let her go.
Thomas: If you want to stay angry with me for not telling you that Steffy and Liam were in Cabo, fine. But I don't think you can pretend you don't know why I did it.
Hope: Uh, yeah, because Steffy told you to, and you can't think for yourself.
Thomas: Please. Steffy is my kid sister. I love her, but I'm not her puppet.
Thomas: (Sighs) Look, I didn't stand a chance of getting your attention if you knew that Liam was anywhere in the vicinity. You know it, I know it. You have this way of torturing yourself with what could have been whenever he is around. What good does that do? None. I know you can't help it. It may take years. Maybe I wanted to spare you that.
Hope: Lying didn't spare me anything, and it didn't spare Steffy, either.
Thomas: Steffy's gonna be okay. She's going to get an M.R.I. today to see if the clot in her brain is reduced.
Hope: Thomas, I think you wanted something else. Did you?
Thomas: Like what?
Hope: I just feel like you had another goal in mind.
Thomas: I wanted you to take me seriously, if that's what you mean.
Hope: (Sighs) Come on, Thomas. Stop dancing around it. Okay, you have a reputation at this office, and you're always dating at least three or four girls at one time.
Thomas: So what? I--that was before.
Hope: (Sighs) Were you hoping to get me into bed in Cabo?
Thomas: Is that even a fair question? Yeah. (Chuckles) Can I be allowed to hope for things that I'm probably not gonna get in the privacy of my own mind? 'Cause if I ask you what you hope for most deeply, what your most cherished wish is, what would you say? (Scoffs)
Bill: Katie, th-th-this misguided fixation you have over Steffy, it--it--it's clouding your judgment. You're not seeing this for what it is.
Katie: Oh, God, I wish that were true. (Sighs) The truth is staring me in the face, and I wish I could just look away and pretend that I don't see it. Is that what you want me to do, Bill? Is that who you want me to be? Just another one of your lackeys who's blinded by your money and your power. Ramon, Justin, (Chuckles) God, it's no wonder he couldn't stay married to my sister. He doesn't even know who he is without you calling the shots. And even your son, whom you claim to love so much... maybe he'll develop the same willful blindness. Only time and money will tell, but it doesn't look good.
Bill: I do love my son, and there is nothing wrong with our relationship.
Katie: He adores you. He believes everything you say. But he doesn't know you, and that's gonna change.
Bill: All right, yes, I switched the M.R.I.s. I did that to keep Liam from making an impulsive decision...
Bill: And walking away from his marriage.
Katie: No, no, the truth, Bill, the truth.
Bill: That's the truth.
Katie: You did this to keep Steffy. If you can't have her in your bed, you'll have her in your son's.
Bill: Oh, come on, Katie, that's ridiculous. I did this to keep Steffy and Liam's marriage intact, period.
Katie: The marriage that's at stake here is ours, yours and mine. How many times will you lie to me in order to keep her?
Bill: (Inhales sharply)
Katie: How many times am I expected to forgive you for the crazy things you do in order to hold on to this life that means so much to me? You see, I've been guilty of blindness, too, because it's so easy to be blinded by you. Even when I close my eyes, you're the only one I see. But truth... has a way of creeping in, of ruining the perfect picture. Truth has a way of ripping the blinders off.
(Cell phone rings)
Hope: Hey, uh, hi. Is it--is it a bad time?
Liam: No. No, no, not at all.
Hope: Uh, well, is there any news? I mean, I-I heard Steffy was having more tests done today.
Liam: Uh, another M.R.I., yeah. Yeah, you'd think we'd be done with all this by now. (Chuckles)
Hope: Oh, you know what? Then--then it is a-a bad time. I'm sorry. I-I'll let you go.
Liam: No. No, no, no, it's not. It's really not. I-I'm seriously just waiting.
Hope: Okay, well, uh, well, how does she seem?
Liam: Uh, the same. You know, she keeps on insisting it doesn't feel like anything's wrong. It's kind of annoying, actually. Like when I was a kid and I got my tonsils out, my mom had to keep me in bed. (Chuckles)
Hope: (Laughs) Were you an awful child?
Liam: No, I didn't-- I mean, I didn't mean to be. I just kept coming up with, like, really good reasons why I had to get up. Like--like, I was so positive that if I didn't get up and feed my goldfish, they would die. And--and my mom finally caved in and--and let me get up. But then I started forgetting, and they died anyway.
Hope: Oh, my God, that's terrible. Your poor fish!
Liam: (Laughs) I know. I know. I know, I'm going to hell, for sure. So make sure you put in a good word for me at the pearly gates, will you?
Hope: Oh, they wouldn't want the likes of me up there.
Liam: Of course they would. You never killed a thing in your life.
Hope: Well, ac-actually, I kinda did. (Sighs)
Liam: Oh... (Sighs) Hope. Uh, come on.
Steffy: Well, I survived. Am I gonna glow in the dark from all this radiation?
Steffy: It'll always be easier to track down. Oh, I'm sorry. I thought-- I didn't know. Sorry.
Liam: Oh, no, no. Um, hello?
Hope: (Hangs up cell phone)
Liam: Guess we were done. (Chuckles)
Dr. Montgomery: Actually, uh, M.R.I.s are what we call nonionizing radiation, which means they don't damage you.
Steffy: Well, I guess my husband can schedule one every day of the week, all right?
Liam: (Laughs) Yeah. I'm--I'm neurotic. Sue me.
Steffy: Yeah, you. Yeah.
Dr. Montgomery: I don't imagine this will be your last follow-up, but, uh, as long as you keep things low-key, low-stress, I think you can probably relax a little bit.
Dr. Montgomery: I gotta-- I gotta go, but, uh...
Dr. Montgomery: I will call you with the results.
Steffy: Great, thank you.
Dr. Montgomery: Yeah.
Liam: Yeah, thank you, Doctor. (Sighs)
Bill: Katie, the truth is, I love you, and you know that. I did what I did to keep Liam from making a huge mistake and abruptly ending his marriage. And as far as Steffy is concerned, she's my daughter-in-law, end of story.
Katie: Yeah, well, I've heard that story before.
Katie: And this campaign that you're on to--to keep Liam and Steffy together at all costs, it doesn't make sense unless there's something in it for you.
Bill: There is something in it for me-- a suitable wife for my son.
Katie: No. (Laughs) No, Hope is as suitable as they come. Anyone that Liam fell in love with would be suitable. You know, I think there's a part of you that actually believes what you're saying that doesn't want to think about that moment when you and your darling daughter-in-law are together, and lightning strikes and maybe--
Bill: Oh, Katie, come on!
Katie: Maybe what makes Steffy so suitable in your mind is that you know that she's not the type of girl to agonize over cheating on her husband, especially if it's with you.
Bill: Okay, stop! Just stop. This is beneath you.
Katie: This is why you need me, Bill. This is why you rely on me, because you need me to prevent this, and because I'm the only person who really knows you and is still fool enough to love you. I'm the only one your money hasn't sucked the soul out of.
Bill: Except for having to deal with a couple of my somewhat challenging character traits, I don't think you find it all that much of a burden being Mrs. "Dollar" Bill Spencer, do you?
Katie: I'm sure that's what other people think-- mousey Katie Logan rescued by marriage from insignificance.
Katie: We know differently, don't we? Because you came to me to be rescued. You chose me, because you knew you were drowning. And you knew I wouldn't let you. And I'm gonna keep that promise, Bill. I'm gonna play that part. (Sniffles) All the lies... they're gonna stop-- today. Where's Liam?
Bill: I don't need to be saved.
Katie: Oh, you do. You're out of control.
Bill: No, Katie, I'm the only one who's in control...
Bill: Because someone has to be. Now your loyalty-- your loyalty is to me, because married is married, Katie.
Katie: Well, it's convenient that you found a way to have your wedding cake and eat it, too, by marrying Steffy off to Liam. (Laughs) God! You are so clueless about yourself, you don't even see it. If I meant anything to you, if our marriage meant anything to you, you never would have done this.
Bill: Stop making this about us. It's not about us or our marriage. It's about Liam and his marriage.
Katie: Where is Liam?
Bill: I'm not losing my son over this.
Katie: That's for him to decide. Fine, you don't want to tell me, I will tell Taylor, I will tell Hope, I'll tell anybody who will listen.
Bill: We're not finished, Katie.
Katie: (Sighs) You know what? I know where they are. They're with Ramon, that quack. He's the only one you would trust them to go to. Bill, let me pass.
Bill: Can't do it, Katie. You're too emotional. You're not thinking clearly.
Katie: (Sighs) Don't be ridiculous, Bill. Bill! Aah! Let me down, Bill. What are you doing?!
Bill: I'm saving you from yourself.
Katie: Bill! (Scoffs)
Bill: Before you do something, we're all going for a break.
Katie: Bill, let me down! Bill! Like-- oh, my--Bill! Uhh! (Scoffs)
Liam: So wh-what are we signing here?
Steffy: That there is a slight chance I may experience side effects from the contrast medium, but I can go back to my normal activities and diet.
Liam: Yeah, except you can't.
Steffy: Well, "Normal" as my activities were this morning.
Liam: Right, mainly lying around in bed all day. Excuse me, do you-- do you know when we're gonna get to speak to Dr. Montgomery?
Woman: I know he's canceled his afternoon appointments to go over your scans with radiology.
Liam: Okay. All right, well, thank you. Thanks. (Sighs)
Steffy: I don't want to hang around here. Do you? Was that work? What, do you have to go back in?
Liam: No, a-actually, that was, uh... (Chuckles) That was Hope. She heard you had an M.R.I. and wanted to see how you're doing.
Steffy: Mm, well, I think I am amazing, thanks to you. That answers my question. Thank you.
