Steffy: You don't have to go through with this marriage, Liam.
Liam: I proposed. She said yes.
Steffy: But then she said no. Not the kind of engagement you expected or deserve. Liam, she's a girl. You need a woman.
Ridge: Okay, I still don't get it. Hope and Liam didn't... well, why are you so concerned? Did something happen?
Brooke: Nothing happened. (Sighs) She now wants to wait for her wedding night.
Ridge: Well, that's very admirable.
Brooke: Yes, absolutely. And I support her decision 100%, if that's what she wants, and if that's what she feels is right for her. Obviously, she does.
Ridge: You don't really sound convinced.
Brooke: (Sighs) I just hate to think that she's waiting to make some kind statement to prove to everybody that she's not her mother's daughter, she's not that kind of Logan.
Hope: Hey, Liam, it's me. Um, I thought you'd be home. I was just calling to say good night. Um, if you get this, uh, just give me a call on my cell, okay? All right, love you. Bye. (Sighs) Where are you?
Liam: The only thing Hope said "No" to is premarital sex. I respect that.
Steffy: This is what the Logans do. They use their sexuality, or in this case, lack thereof, to control their men. You get mixed up with a Logan, and you're gonna feel exactly the way Hope made you feel tonight-- empty. It doesn't have to be this way.
Hope: No, he's not answering his cell either. Um, look, if he does show up there, will you just tell him that I called? Okay, thanks, Aunt Katie.
(Cell phone rings)
Hope: (Sighs) Oliver? H-hey. Can you hear me?
Oliver: Yeah, I can hear you. What's going on?
Hope: I know this is gonna sound really weird, but have you seen Liam tonight?
Oliver: Yeah, he's here, uh, at Bikini. Is everything all right? Liam asked you to marry him. Now he's out here hanging with Steffy.
Hope: You know what, Oliver? Do me a favor. Uh, if you see Liam, we'll you just tell him that I'm on my way?
Oliver: Hope, are you hung up somewhere?
Hope: Thanks, Oliver. I-I'll be there soon. (Sighs)
Steffy: I know what the Logans are capable of, and I just-- I don't want to see that happen to you.
Liam: Well, you know what? Hope isn't just another Logan.
Steffy: Yeah, I thought she was different. But then I found out what she did to you.
Liam: All she did was make a decision that was right for herself. That's it.
Steffy: Well, she made you think that you had a chance with her, you know, just like what Brooke did when she gave my mom her wedding ring. You know, she dangled everything in front of my mom's face, everything that she wanted, and then she snatched it away.
Liam: Okay, well, Hope isn't like that.
Steffy: What is she like? Well, does she excite you? Does she understand your feelings, you know, what it-- it feels like for a man to be so close to a woman? Ask yourself, did you really think you would end up here tonight? Don't get me wrong. I-I'm glad that you're here. And if you're honest with yourself, I think you are, too.
Ridge: Thank you, Emile. No, we are very proud of her as well. Okay, thanks. More accolades about the preview.
Brooke: Hope didn't answer her phone?
Ridge: She's probably fielding calls on her cell.
Brooke: Mm, she must be getting a lot of questions about the engagement.
Ridge: People are gonna be curious. Taylor was.
Brooke: I'm sure she didn't just drop by to offer congratulations.
Ridge: She was concerned that Steffy would be upset about Liam's proposal.
Brooke: You would think that wouldn’t you?
Ridge: She wasn't?
Brooke: She stopped by to give Hope a gift. It was a framed photo of Liam proposing at the preview. I was surprised, too.
Ridge: Wow. Maybe Steffy's finally learned her lesson about unavailable men.
Brooke: (Sighs) She didn't deny that she'd been thinking bout Liam. But I think her fantasy evaporated when she found out that Liam and Hope were spending the night together.
Ridge: Steffy didn't know that Hope had left already?
Brooke: No, Hope arrived after Steffy left.
Ridge: That's probably just as well.
Brooke: I think she's beginning to accept this engagement. I-I don't think Steffy's going to interfere. And I don't think Taylor will, either.
Ridge: Steffy's not the only one that kinda built Liam up to be the hero. He saved our daughter's life, Logan. You're a mother. You can understand how that would make you feel about him.
Brooke: You're not saying that Taylor still thinks that Liam and Steffy should be together. Ridge, that's not gong to happen. I hope you told her that.
Oliver: Oh, thanks, Ashleigh.
Ashleigh: No problem.
Madison: Are they still out there?
Oliver: Yeah, they're in the cabana. (Sighs) Hope's on her way here.
Ashleigh: She better get here quick before Steffy calls dibs on her fiancé.
Madison: Well, she does have a thing for the Spencers. There was a rumor going around the office about Steffy and Liam's father.
Oliver: H-have either of you guys talked to Liam tonight?
Madison: I was going to, but when he showed up here without Hope, I didn't know if I should congratulate him or not.
Ashleigh: Hope is on her way here?
Oliver: Yeah. She asked me to tell Liam.
Madison: So they are engaged.
Oliver: I thought so. It's not exactly the vibe I'm pickin' up.
Steffy: Where were we?
Liam: You know, I think that--that guy wanted an introduction.
Steffy: Oh. Oh, but you wanted to keep me to yourself, huh?
Liam: Nah, I just-- I know him. He's a--he's a player, and you've been, uh, hurt enough.
Steffy: Mm. So have you, even though you won't admit it. Look, you were there for me when I needed someone-- someone to just have my back and to understand me. This isn't your fault, you know. It's Hope. It's the way she grew up.
Liam: (Sighs) (Chuckles)
Steffy: You don't believe me? Okay, look at Brooke's bedroom. Now Hope had to see her mom rolling in a huge bed in-- in what, nothing but her underwear, in billboards all over the city. She was the ultimate sex object. No wonder she has issues.
Liam: Fine, she has issues. We'll work through 'em together.
Steffy: Look, I know you don't want me to say this, but... you can't deny there's reason for concern, Liam.
Liam: I'm sure that's how you feel.
Steffy: I'm just looking out for you, okay? The Logan women-- they're trouble. You know, I've had to deal with them my whole life. I'm outspoken about it because I had to be.
Steffy: You know, Hope and-- and her mom, they stole my dad, and they just--
Liam: Steffy, that's not--
Steffy: Well, that's what happened.
Liam: Yeah, you know what? But you don't have to be defined by it, just like Hope doesn't have to be defined by the way that her mother chooses to live her life. I mean, we all have choices. And you've got a big one to make right now, by the way. I mean, y-you're-- you're an amazing woman. You could have any guy here.
Liam: And--and if I weren't engaged, and--and if you and I had met under different circumstances at a different time in my life, yeah, I would be one of them. But I am engaged, and I do love my fiancée. And if you and I are gonna be friends, you're gonna have to be supportive of that.
Liam: Like two platonic companions-- friends.
Steffy: Mm, if-- if I leave Hope alone, right?
Liam: Yeah, uh, well, no, if you-- if you stop hitting on me. I mean, you-- you think you're so tough, you know that? You--you think that you're such a straight shooter, and you're brutally honest. Well, look at yourself. I mean, look at it. Is this who you are? Are you that girl? Are you the girl who always loses? Are you that woman who only falls for unavailable men?
Liam: You know, you-- you think that you and Hope are so different, don't you? That you're just like mortal enemies, but you're not. She's a part of your family, and there's nothing you can do to change that. I mean, you always talk about Hope having problems with her mom. Well, guess what? So do you. So does everyone. Hope is a part of your life. And regardless of what may or may not have happened tonight, she's the best part of mine.
Steffy: Hope, what are you doing here?
Brooke: (Sighs) Ridge, I know you're caught in the middle. You have two daughters involved.
Ridge: Steffy and Hope interested in the same man.
Brooke: Mm-hmm. We've been through this before.
Ridge: I just don't want to see Steffy disappointed again.
Brooke: But that's what will happen if she thinks she can come between Hope and Liam. I mean, she must realize after the proposal that Liam is committed to Hope, and any attention that he ever showed her was purely sympathetic.
Ridge: Well, sympathy is one of the things that Steffy hasn't had a whole lot of lately. She certainly could have gotten a lot more from me.
Brooke: You are a good father to both Steffy and to Hope. And of course Steffy's attached to Liam. He saved her life. He is her hero. But that doesn't mean he has to be her boyfriend. Liam is committed to Hope. And I think Steffy is even starting to accept that.
Hope: I saw you talking to Liam.
Steffy: It was a big night for you, huh? You know, first a preview, and then a proposal. Hard to top that. Why even try?
Hope: Liam told you what happened tonight?
Steffy: Oh, you mean what didn't happen?
Steffy: No, he didn't tell me. He didn't have to. It was kind of obvious the moment he walked in the door.
Hope: You think I'm just being a tease, don't you?
Steffy: No, not really. I just--you're not mature enough to deal with your issues or to give your man what he needs. That's all.
Hope: Liam understands why I want to wait.
Steffy: Well, he thinks you're taking a stand, but I think you're scared. And it's okay. Just don't turn it into some kind of moral crusade or anything.
Hope: I'm not.
Steffy: Will you just listen to me? I-I'm just tryin to help you out.
Hope: What did you say to Liam? When he told you that I wanted to wait, what did you say to him?
Steffy: I told him to call off the engagement.
Hope: (Sighs) Wow. Look, he won't.
Steffy: No, he's just setting himself up for a lot of frustration and disappointment, and so are you. Hope, your feelings are not gonna change when he puts a ring on your finger. So it's better to deal with it now than later.
Hope: Hey, Steffy, you don't have to worry about me and Liam. Our wedding night, we'll see fireworks, okay? It'll be worth the wait for both of us.
Steffy: You know, I hope so. You build something up like this, it's bound to be a letdown. It's hard to live up to the hype.
Hope: It's not hype, and I'm not scared. I'm really serious about this.
Steffy: Well, that's good, because Liam is serious about you look, I told him that this engagement was a mistake. But he asked you, so I'm gonna respect that.
Hope: You're--you're not gonna pursue him?
Steffy: I didn't invite him here tonight. I didn't invite him into my apartment to save my life.
Hope: What's changed, Steffy?
Steffy: (Sighs) I know this road. My mom's been on it a long time. She's constantly losing to your mom. I don't want that to happen to me, so I'm gonna go in a different direction.
Hope: Wow, I don't know what to say right now.
Steffy: Don't you dare say thank you.
Hope: Okay, then I won't. Um, good luck.
Steffy: You, too.
Hope: I should-- I should find Liam.
Steffy: Just tell him I say congratulations, all right?
Liam: So... I heard what you said. Thank you.
Steffy: No, Liam, thank you.
Brooke: Who would have expected my daughter to be so traditional?
Ridge: You're not?
Brooke: Well, I have loved one man my entire life.
Ridge: Yeah, you've also been married to several others.
Brooke: I just enjoy the weddings.
Ridge: Hope wants one with all the trimmings...
Ridge: Including the wedding night jitters.
Brooke: (Chuckles) We never had those.
Ridge: Hey, you speak for yourself, Missy.
Brooke: Okay, maybe our first wedding night.
Ridge: All of them. Are you gonna tell me that your heart wasn't beating a little faster. You didn't feel that little jolt of electricity? Hmm?
Brooke: Well, we did have amazing honeymoons.
Ridge: Maybe that's why we got married so many times.
Brooke: Mm-hmm. We've been a terrible example to our children.
Ridge: Again, speak for yourself. But... who else as made marriage look as fun as we have?
Brooke: I think Hope and Liam are meant to be, and I just pray that they find the same love that we share.
Ridge: They'd be very lucky.
Brooke: Yes, they would.
Brooke: (Squeals) (Giggles)
Liam: I wasn't sure I'd gotten through to you.
Steffy: Message received, loud and clear. (Sighs) I've just wasted enough of my life wanting things that I can't have.
Liam: You haven't wasted your life, Steffy. I mean, you make mistakes and you learn from them. That's something you proved tonight.
Steffy: I'm not trying to prove anything. No, I-I've caused you enough trouble, and I-I don't-- I don't want to do that. I don't want to hurt Hope. I just want you to be happy. A-and that's what you deserve. (Sighs) Hope's a lucky girl. She has you. It's gonna be tough not to be jealous, but, um... it's the least I can do for a man who saved my life.
Liam: Well, for what it's worth, I'm very impressed...
Liam: With how you handled yourself tonight. Very impressed.
Steffy: (Chuckles) Well, go get her. You know, she's waiting for you. Good-bye, Liam.
