Thomas: I don't know what to say.
Brooke: You lied. You betrayed me and your father, and worst of all, you've betrayed yourself. I know that Stephanie was involved, but, Thomas, you are a grown man. You didn't have to do what she said. You made a choice. You stabbed in the back.
Thomas: Brooke, I never meant to hurt you.
Brooke: You knew what was going to happen. Don't try to gloss over this. You've hurt the people that you love the most. You hurt me, your father, your mother. How can you expect to come here and defend yourself?
Ridge: There is no defense.
Eric: I saw Taylor go hurtling through the front gates.
Stephanie: I don't think she'll be visiting anytime soon. (Sighs)
Eric: I paid the caterer and the minister. Where's Ridge?
Stephanie: They've gone their separate ways.
Eric: Why'd you stop the wedding?
Stephanie: Well, that wasn't my intention. I just thought, in all fairness, that, uh, they needed to hear something.
Eric: That they needed to her what?
Stephanie: Well, it really shouldn't have made a difference, but it made a big difference.
Eric: Was this "something they needed to hear," was this about Thomas and Brooke?
Stephanie: You know, if they'd been on that island just a couple more days, it would have happened.
Eric: This was all a lie?
Stephanie: It became one.
Eric: It was either true, or it wasnít. It either happened, or it didnít.
Stephanie: Well, they didn't remember. The whole situation lent itself to sex. I mean, what other conclusion could you come to? (Exhales deeply)
Eric: What conclusion could you come to, you mean?
Stephanie: (Groans) Tom didn't know it was a lie until he told it.
Eric: Then why did he tell it?
Stephanie: Oh, because I convinced him to. And don't ask me why because I-I don't have answer.
Eric: You need to tell me why, Stephanie.
Stephanie: I don't know. I mean, I've been fighting Brooke for so long, fighting to keep her from taking everything that I had, you know, everyone that I loved, I just-- I saw the opportunity, and I took it.
Eric: Brooke loves you.
Stephanie: Oh, jeez.
Eric: She admires you. She's no threat to you. She's no threat. Wh-what's it gonna take for you to feel safe?
Stephanie: Well, I don't feel safe. I could lose you. I could lose everything I have, any moment, any day. I could... not wake up tomorrow morning! I could have tumors in my brain explode! I could get to the top of the stairs and not be able to catch my breath.
Eric: Look, all of that, any of that could happen. But what does that have to do with Thomas telling this lie?
Stephanie: I don't know how to fight the cancer. The only battle that I've ever known how to win is the one that I stopped fighting! (Sighs) The battle with Brooke. (Sighs)
Thomas: Youíre right, there is no defense. I'm just glad it's out. You know, standing in front of you, this isnít easy, but it was a lot harder yesterday, last week.
Ridge: We're through being props in the story of you, Thomas. Say what you have to say and go.
Thomas: I don't think an apology's gonna cut it, do you? There's some things I want to say to Brooke without you.
Ridge: I can think of no reason I should leave you alone with my wife.
Thomas: You're my father. I don't think I could be as honest as I would like to be with you standing in the room listening.
Brooke: It's all right. It might be easier for me, too.
Ridge: I'll be in the kitchen. Thomas, if you don't tell her the whole truth, I will.
Brooke: (Sighs) I don't want to hear the truth from you anymore, Thomas.
Thomas: That's fair enough.
Brooke: I just want to know why you did it. How could do something like this to me? What were you going to gain from it?
Thomas: Everything I ever wanted.
Stephanie: I wasn't thinking clearly.
Eric: Yeah, well, that's an understatement. What I can't understand is why Thomas went along with you in the first place.
Stephanie: Don't blame him.
Eric: Ah, he's not a child.
Stephanie: Temptation is not easy to resist. You know all about that.
Eric: What temptation? Brooke is his champion. She's his mentor.
Stephanie: Yes, but Ridge had said that if she ever crossed the line again with Tom, he would go right back to Taylor.
Eric: But she didnít. Thomas knew that. He knew he was lying, and he it anyway.
Stephanie: He didnít want to, I have to say that.
Eric: Well, then why did he? Why?
Stephanie: (Sighs heavily) 'Cause I offered him an incentive.
Eric: What kind of an incentive?
Stephanie: (Groans) (sighs)
Brooke: Other people doubted, but I defended you. And why wouldnít I? I've known you since you were a little boy. We worked together. We had fun together. We traveled the world. We fought for our lives together. I trusted your memory of what happened on that island more than I trusted mine. People kept telling me that you were lying, that you just wanted to split up your father's marriage so you could get your parents back together, and I thought that they were crazy. I defended you. I know that you respected my marriage with Ridge.
Thomas: Uh, not always, but this time, yeah.
Brooke: Then why?
Thomas: (Stammers) Mom and Dad, they--they seemed to want it for themselves. (Sighs) I mean, you saw how they were in the south pacific. It was like some kind of fantasy I-I never knew I had to be out there alone, lost, starving, going--going crazy. And then who shows up? (Sighs) Mom and Dad rescued me and took me home like-- like nothing had ever changed since I was a kid.
Brooke: Everyone gets one or two dreams that come true, just not all of them.
Thomas: Yeah. You know, maybe I did feel some sort of... crappy satisfaction, succeeding where-- where Steffy didn't, but... you know, that-- that wasn't enough to--to make me say what I said.
Brooke: You lied.
Thomas: Yes. Steffy was the clever one, the--the London-educated one. I was basically a normal kid before my overachieving days, and for... (sighs) for Forrester, that puts you in the basement percentiles with Uncle Thorne.
Brooke: (Sighs) There's not really "normal" in any family.
Thomas: I know. Still, I wasn't prepared to hear my grandmother say that I was the future of Forrester Creations. When she told me she was giving me her shares of the company, I was... I was shocked. I-I-I just stammered and said, "thank you. I-I'll do anything for you," and then she got this goofy smile on her face and--and said, "anything?"
Eric: Do you hear yourself? Do you know how this all sounds? You bribe your grandson to say that he slept with his father's wife.
Eric: And then--and then you--you--you rail against that as if it were a perversion and--and--and you-- you hold Brooke up as some kind of a sexual degenerate.
Eric: And then you--you-- you try to take your son and get him married to the woman you chose for him decades ago because it makes you feel healthy and alive? Your original bucket list. And all this to return us to the golden age when our family all lived under one roof and your word was still law. (Scoffs) I thought you had changed.
Stephanie: Well, you're the second person that told me today, and I'll tell you, it cuts to the quick. (Sighs)
Eric: Well, I thought you had changed, but apparently, all the rest of us have, and we're waiting for you to catch up.
Stephanie: Well, I tried.
Eric: It doesn't seem like you're going to.
Stephanie: I tried. I-I didn't go through with it.
Eric: Oh, you give yourself credit for that? The only thing that accomplished was taking Taylor down with everybody else. And what good did your last-minute scruples do Thomas anyway? You made him a deal that he was too hungry to refuse, and you knew that.
Eric: So that now anything he accomplishes at Forrester in the future, no matter how dazzling, will be tainted by the idea that when he was tempted, he was weak. You sold him out. You set him up, Stephanie. And anything he gets now in the future from Forrester will be blood money.
Stephanie: I know. I know. I... (exhales deeply) You think... you think it's possible to... to kind of bring this on yourself, you know, this cancer? I-I mean... (sighs) I... I don't know whatís going on I don't know. Is at I'm so filled with anger and--and--and envy, and--and I need to be in control, and... and this is, you know, God's way of telling you you're not in control? Cancer cells, you know, they resist all boundaries, and they're showing you and telling you that theyíre in charge and you're not? Is that what it's all about?
Eric: You haven't died.
Eric: You wanted to. You wanted to curl up in a ball and just let it take you, but you haven't died, Stephanie.
Eric: And just who do you have to thank for that?
Brooke: I think it all makes sense now. I know what a bulldog your grandmother can be when she wants something.
Thomas: Brooke, I can't blame my grandma. Look, I could have said no.
Brooke: Yeah, but then you wouldn't be the single-largest shareholder in Forrester, would you?
Thomas: Well, I'm not that quite yet.
Brooke: Right. She'd have to die. Is that how it works?
Thomas: Look, I know what I did was wrong.
Brooke: I think I liked you better when I thought you were doing this for your mother.
Thomas: (Sighs) I've made a mistake.
Brooke: Nobody died. You have a lot of time to learn from this.
Thomas: No, I'm not talking about the mistake I knew aboutóthe lie I told. (Sighs) I'm thinking of the mistake I'm just now understanding that... I didn't know what was important to me, and now I've just lost my two best friends.
Brooke: You're right, I'm not going to be your friend anymore. Who else?
Thomas: Dayzee. She knew I was hiding something. She's the one person I told.
Brooke: What did she say?
Thomas: That I should tell you.
Brooke: What did you say?
Thomas: I told her I would, but... if I'd have been any kind of man... (scoffs)
Brooke: You're young, Thomas. Your life is full of possibilities-- people who will love you, people who will see the good in you even if you don't see the good in yourself. I just won't be one of them. Dayzee and your father and your mother, they'll be there, and they'll forgive you. And maybe in time, I will be able to forgive you, too. I just can't have an opportunist in my life whose conscience only wakes up when they're caught. I'm not going to be able to work with you anymore, and this is the last time we'll be together alone behind closed doors. Now that's not such a terrible penance, is it?
Thomas: (Sniffles) It is. Brooke, you're the only who's ever believed in me. I've ruined everything that's mattered most,
Brooke: You haven't ruined me. (Chuckles) And you certainly are gonna get a lot of money out of it, so... Ridge? Thomas wants to say good-bye.
Thomas: (Clears throat) "I'm sorry" is an easy thing to say. I know I'm gonna have to prove it with my actions... and I will.
Eric: Well, might as well tie one on. I paid for all this, you know?
Thorne: (Chuckles) How long has this been going on?
Eric: What, this lie? This lie about Brooke and Thomas? I don't know Stephanie tells me nothing until she absolutely has to.
Thorne: Where is she now?
Eric: You know your mother. She's like a heat-seeking missile. I imagine she's headed precisely where she is least wanted.
Thorne: (Chuckles) So what are you going to do?
Eric: I can't throw her out in the street. She's not well enough.
Thorne: (Chuckles) Do you think it possibly could be brain tumors, or...
Eric: No, no. I admit, there's a kind of pathological madness to it, but it's not medical this time.
Thorne: Well, I think I'm going to take my wedding gifts back, if nobody minds.
Eric: Thorne, I'm sorry. I'm sorry about all this.
Thorne: You think I'm pouting. "Woe is me. Thomas has 30% of the company, and as usual, I have nothing."
Eric: I wouldn't blame you if you felt that way.
Thorne: The truth is, I don't want to have to spend that much time around you people. My life is so much saner when you don't pay me attention. And nobody's gonna be spreading stories about me sleeping with anyone, and that's just fine.
Brooke: (Sighs) Ahh.
Ridge: You okay?
Brooke: (Sighs) He is really sorry.
Ridge: Thatís not good enough.
Brooke: He knows that, too. I think heís beginning to understand the person he hurt the most was himself.
Ridge: Well, that's a very generous perspective.
Brooke: He is your son. You can't turn your back on him.
Ridge: Logan, at the moment, I can't imagine the next words that are gonna be between us.
Brooke: Why don't you just go get out of this suit? It's a really sad reminder.
(Knock on door)
Ridge: I'll get it.
Stephanie: I'd like to speak to your wife.
Brooke: (Sighs) It's okay, Ridge. There's really no sense in putting it off. I donít suppose you're here about the foundation.
Stephanie: Uh... no. Um... no. I'm sorry. Um, I guess it's safe to say I have violated every principle that I thought I had. (Chuckles) I'm sorry. I don't want you to blame Tom for this, please, okay? Every decent and honest feeling that he had for you, I took and turned into something that it wasnít. And, um, there's really no justification, of course, and no explanation and... all of the different reasons all these years that I've wanted you out of my son's life have, I don't know, they've just disappeared. And... I'm sorry. I don't know what else to say.
