Stephanie: You all right?

Nick: Yeah, I'm fine.

Stephanie: Well, you didn't say very much, so...

Nick: Just thinking.

Stephanie: That was quite something, wasn't it?

Nick: Meeting with the support group?

Stephanie: Mm-hmm.

Nick: Yeah, a real eye-opener. Kind of scary.

Stephanie: Lung cancer is pretty scary. Let me tell you.

Nick: Well, I know you wanted to come here with me in case I wanted to talk or make sure I got the message.

Stephanie: You want me to leave?

Nick: Well, I'm sure you must be exhausted.

Stephanie: I am. (Chuckles) But that's not why you want me to leave. You want to smoke.

Bill: Hey.

Brooke: Hi. Sorry I'm late.

Bill: I never mind waiting for a beautiful woman...

Brooke: Thank you.

Bill: Even if she's my sister-in-law.

Brooke: (Laughs)

Bill: So I'm curious. Why did you want to see me?

Brooke: I thought that you would be expecting to hear from me.

Bill: Is this about the wedding? Did Ridge get offended? Look, Brooke, I didn't mean to offend him. In fact, I was sincerely congratulating him.

Brooke: No, no. This isn't about Donna's wedding or about the Taboo line. This is about our children, Bill. The involvement between Hope and Liam. And as a mother, I happen to be very concerned.

Liam: Well, I'm sorry, Glen. I ne--I need it sooner than that. No, you promised me the site design by the end of the week, and I'm gonna hold you to that. Yes, yeah, that's exactly what I want to hear. I'll look for the uplink. Okay. Okay, thanks. Sorry about that.

Hope: Busy man.

Liam: I know. I don't know how my dad ran the joint without me.

Hope: Hmm. You're really into this, huh?

Liam: Oh, it's my job. You know what I'm really into, though?

Hope: What?

Liam: You know what I'm really, really into?

Hope: What?

Liam: You.

Hope: Yeah? (Chuckles)

Liam: Yeah.

Amber: No, Mom, I did not call Liam back, okay? I-I told him that it was his baby and there's no way it could be anyone elseís. So now you just have to make sure your friend Carl... (sighs) makes the paternity test say that. (Sighs) Look, I-I gotta-- I gotta go, okay? Bye. (Sighs) It's all for you, little one. (Sighs)

Liam: This is the homepage. I got rid of the-- the flash animation. That way Smartphone users can access it seamlessly. So you just click on the icon of my dad, and... voil.

Hope: He has really become your mentor.

Liam: Yeah, well, I mean, just look at what he and my grandfather did for this company. They built it from the ground up. And... and now it's my job to sorta take it to the next level, which I'm--I'm doing.

Hope: Well, I like seeing you so fulfilled.

Liam: (Chuckles) Well, life is good. I've got you. I've got my job. I'm a happy man. Except for one thing.

Hope: Amber?

Liam: Yeah. Yeah. But we're gonna take care of that today. I mean, Amber's baby, if she even has a baby, it's not mine.

Hope: (Sighs)

Nick: Stephanie, I don't need a babysitter.

Stephanie: Good, because I have no intention of becoming one. Nick, the only person that can stop you from smoking is you.

(Knock on door)

Aggie: Hi.

Nick: Hey.

Jackie: How did it go with the support group?

Aggie: Your mother filled me in on the way over.

Nick: Oh, we're good. It's all good. It's not cancer. It's no big deal.

Aggie: Well, it's a big deal, Nick. That's why you agreed to go to that group meeting, right? So how did it go? Are you ready to give up those awful things?

Hope: I wonder why Amber hasn't called.

Liam: Probably 'cause she gave it her best shot and it didn't work.

Hope: You think she's lying? That she's not even pregnant?

Liam: I think if she really was pregnant with my kid, she would be, like, on my doorstep demanding a settlement or payoff or something?

Hope: Yeah, I suppose.

Liam: You know where she's living now?

Hope: Mnh-mnh.

Liam: I tracked her down. In a trailer park with her mom. She probably needs money.

Hope: And she's trying to extort it from you.

Liam: Well, tried to, but we didn't bite, so... I mean, we may not hear from her again.

Hope: Oh, that would drive me crazy. I-I would need some kind of resolution.

Liam: Well, in my mind, it's already resolved, because I didn't sleep with Amber, so...

Hope: I need to be sure.

Liam: What? Where are you going?

Hope: To get proof. Where is this trailer park you said she lived in?

Liam: It's, uh, off the 210, past the stadium. I'll go with you.

Hope: No, no. Stay. You're busy. I can handle this.

Liam: How?

Hope: Force her to take a home pregnancy test while I'm there.

Liam: She'll never do it.

Hope: Which will give us all the proof we need, won't it?

Liam: Genius.

Hope: Uh-huh.

Liam: You're the best. Careful.

Hope: I will be.

Liam: (Sighs)

Nick: The cigar thing's under control.

Aggie: Hmm. Okay, good. Well, I guess you won't need these anymore then.

Jackie: Oh, good. Then I'll get rid of them for you.

Nick: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. You don't have to do that.

Aggie: Why, if you're not gonna smoke anymore?

Nick: First off, the humidor was a gift.

Jackie: (Scoffs) It's a temptation, Nicky.

Stephanie: Come on, Nick, you've gotta fess up and face the truth here. This is an addiction. You can chew the nicotine gum. You can wear the patch. You can have the support group. All of that will be helpful. But nothing is going to solve the problem of addiction until you admit that you have it. You know that.

Nick: So you want me to admit that I have no control over my smoking?

Stephanie: Mm-hmm.

Nick: So you're saying that I'm some sort of victim to this thing that you're calling an addiction. Now what would admit that? Why would I want to do that? I've always been in control of my life. I've been the one who calls the shots. I make the decisions in my life, because if I don't have control, it's not really my life.

Owen: Hey, but this one instance, Nick, you're not in control. Those stupid cigars are in control. But if you commit to stopping, then you're gonna be taking control.

Jackie: Exactly. Owen is right. If control is important to you, then take it back.

Aggie: You can do this, Nick. You can do this, if you want to, if you commit to it. You've already been to a support group. You're wearing the patch. It must be what you want.

Stephanie: Is it what you want? You heard what the people at the support group said. Those people that have lung cancer as a result of smoking, they wish that they had taken control of the addiction. Nick, if you continue to smoke, there's a really good probability you'll end up with lung cancer. And then you really will wish that you'd taken control of the situation. It's up to you, Nick.

Brooke: So you do know what happened the night of the coming out party, don't you?

Bill: Yeah, I know what happened, but he's been to doctors, and everything's fine.

Brooke: How can you say that, Bill? It's really not that simple.

Bill: It's a concussion, Brooke. It's not life-threatening. I mean--

Brooke: It's more than just a concussion.

Bill: What else is there? Oh, you mean the memory loss? Listen, I sent him to a top neurologist, and he assured us there's not going to be any residual damage, except that he might not get his memory back from that evening.

Brooke: Is that all that you know?

Bill: That's all there is to know, unless Liam gets his memory back from that evening. I'm just grateful nothing else happened.

(Knock on door)

Amber: Hope. (Sighs)

Hope: Hello, Amber.

Amber: You tracked me down.

Hope: Liam found out where you were staying.

Amber: Nice digs, huh?

(Cat meowing)

Hope: It's all starting to make sense.

Amber: What is?

Hope: Claiming Liamís the father of your baby. It's your ticket out of here, isn't it?

Nick: All right. So you're all on board, huh? Everybody's on board. They all want Nick to quit smoking his cigars.

Stephanie: Are you on board?

Nick: I'm on board with my agenda, but not yours.

Aggie: Which is what? I don't want to lose you, Nick.

Nick: You're not going to lose me. You're the one who said it, Stephanie. If I'm gonna stop, it's gotta be on my terms. I can't do it for my mother, a friend, or my girlfriend. It's not gonna work.

Jackie: So nothing that we've said, nothing that you saw or you heard at that support group, none of that has had any impact on you?

Nick: No. Au contraire, Mother. It had a big impact on me, more than I wanted.

Jackie: (Sighs)

Nick: And I want to thank you for bringing me all of this evidence and showing me how much you care. But now it's up to me. It's about what I want, not what you want for me. So today, I'm gonna do what's best for me.

Bill: Listen, Brooke, as I said, I had my issues with the relationship. I felt that Liam should be out having fun, enjoying bachelorhood, playing the field, seeing many different women. I mean, that's who I was at his age. Actually, that's who I was most of my life. But that's not my son. He's committed to Hope, whether I like it or not.

Brooke: So you're prepared to accept their relationship?

Bill: Hope is part of Liamís life. And he's determined that, yes, I accept it. Listen, Brooke. Liam is his own man. He knows what he wants, and I respect him for it.

Brooke: Wow. (Chuckles) I'm amazed.

Bill: Well, don't be. I want my son's happiness, just as you want your daughterís. And I really do think they have something special. Is it going to last? Who knows? They're young. But for the time being, I can't imagine anything coming between Hope and Liam.

Liam: (Sighs)

Hope: (Sighs) After my fashion show and your failed attempt to steal our designs...

(Cat meowing)

Hope: You told me something. You remember what that was?

Amber: (Sighs) That was the beginning of all my misery. I was ridin' a wave before then.

Hope: You told me that you might get knocked down, but you'd claw your way back up. Now I took that to mean that you were going to get back at me somehow. And I'm assuming that this is your payback...

(Cat meowing)

Hope: Or so you were hoping.

Amber: So you win again. Is that what this is about?

Hope: No, this isn't about winning or losing. This is about doing what's right, something you still haven't learned after everything that happened with Rick.

Amber: (Scoffs) You just love to throw that in my face, don't you?

Hope: Did you really think that you were going to pull this off? You're not pregnant, Amber. Admit it.

Amber: Oh, you're so sure?

Hope: If I weren't, believe me, I wouldn't be here right now.

Amber: Why are you?

Hope: I want you to come face-to-face with the truth, to put an end to this once and for all.

Amber: And how you gonna do that?

Hope: With, um... (clears throat) with this.

Amber: You want me to take a pregnancy test?

Hope: Mm-hmm. And of course, you don't want to.

Amber: It really isn't necessary.

Hope: So indulge me.

Amber: Why should I?

Hope: Why shouldn't you? Unless you're lying. I didn't think you'd do it. Thanks, Amber. Good-bye.

Amber: Where you goin'?

Hope: Well, I just got all the proof that I need.

Amber: Wait here.

Hope: (Sighs)

Aggie: So what are you saying, Nick? Are you ready to quit?

Nick: Please don't make this into something I'm doing for you, any of you. You've all given me so much support, all of you, and I-I love you for that.

Aggie: We're always gonna be here for you.

Nick: (Sighs) I know that. And I'm very grateful, especially to you, Stephanie, you getting involved like this and wanting to make a difference in my life, but if I'm really gonna make a commitment to this, I gotta do it for me, 'cause if I do it for anybody else, it's not gonna work. So it's gotta be my truth, something that I do for me. That way, there's not gonna be any cheating, nobody can fool anybody. It's gonna be all or nothing.

Stephanie: Smart boy.

Jackie: Yes, you are a smart boy. (Laughs) Thank you.

Bill: This is quite the role reversal, isn't it?

Brooke: (Clears throat)

Bill: I'm pushing for the relationship. And you seem reluctant. What's worrying you Brooke? Is there more?

Brooke: Look, I like Liam. I do. He seems very sensitive, very caring, and he's made my daughter very, very happy.

Bill: But you're worried he's going to hurt her.

Brooke: I don't think he would intend to.

Bill: You don't trust him.

Brooke: My daughter is sometimes too trusting.

Bill: (Sighs) There's something more going on here, isn't there? I really think there is.

Brooke: I just... I just don't want anything to come between them.

Bill: He loves her, Brooke. You can trust Liam. I can't imagine him ever doing anything to hurt Hope.

(Cat meowing)

Hope: (Sighs) (Scoffs)

(Cat meowing)

(Cat sneezes, meows)

Hope: (Sighs)

(Touch-tones beeping)

(Cell phone rings)

Liam: Hope?

Hope: I'm with Amber.

Liam: Uh, did she take the test?

Hope: Yes.

Liam: What did it say?

Hope: She wasn't lying. Amber's pregnant.

(Cat meows)

Liam: Hey, Hope, um, Hope? Hope, are you there? Hope?

(Cat meowing)

Hope: (Sighs)
