Brooke: The ceremony was beautiful.
Katie: It was. I'm so happy for Donna and Justin.
Brooke: Yeah, me, too. They're finally married after all these years.
Katie: We are lucky girls. We have really good men. Although mine might be a little bit of a workaholic. He went back to the office. I mean, who does that after a wedding ceremony?
Brooke: Yeah, well, Ridge went back there, too, so... actually, I'm kind of glad that I'm here alone with you, because there's something I need to talk about.
Katie: Everything okay?
Brooke: Just something bothering me. Something I need to get off my chest. I can't hold it in any longer.
Katie: What's goin' on?
Brooke: My trip to Paris with Thomas...
Katie: Yeah? It was a huge success. You had a great time.
Brooke: I did. But something happened on that trip.
Thomas: So Donna and Justinís wedding was fun?
Ridge: Donna seems happy. I kind of felt like I was in enemy territory.
Thomas: (Chuckles) You kind of were, Dad. I mean, Bill and Justin? Not exactly your two favorite people, Dad.
Ridge: After Bill, uh, pointed out that he is, in fact, a minor shareholder, he congratulated me on the success of the Taboo line. Said it was a, uh, risky move...
Ridge: The kind of move that he would have pulled.
Thomas: Yeah, well, considering the source, should we take that as a compliment?
Ridge: I don't really give a damn what Bill thinks I'm proud of you son. Your accomplishments, how you've handled yourself. You work very well with Brooke. You have a good work ethic, a lot of, uh, a lot of chutzpah. I like that. I'm very happy to know that I can depend on you.
Jackie: Oh, that is so good. Thank you, darling, for trying to take my mind off things. (Sighs) I've asked Nicky to come here to see me.
Owen: You worried about him?
Jackie: I'm worried about that spot on his lung.
Owen: The doctor said that it's not cancerous.
Jackie: Not--not yet. But what if it turns into cancer?
Owen: It wonít.
Jackie: Nicky's a smoker I mean, he's been smoking those damn cigars for years. And think of Stephanie. She never smoked a day in her life, and she ended up with lung cancer.
Eric: You okay?
Stephanie: Mm-hmm. I just get winded once in a while. (Exhales)
Eric: If you like, I can carry you upstairs. You know, just like I did on our wedding night.
Stephanie: (Laughs) You were 22 years old, and I was about 30 pounds lighter.
Eric: Yeah, yeah, well, you know, with these-- with these guns, I can carry you anywhere.
Stephanie: (Chuckles) Hey, speaking of weddings...
Eric: Yeah, Donnaís a married woman again.
Stephanie: Yeah, I never thought she'd really get over you. But it seems that she has, and rather easily, too.
Eric: Well, it couldn't have been that easy.
Eric: No, I'm happy for her. She deserves to be-- to be happy these days. And itís a good thing for Marcus, too. Nice for him to have his parents together.
Stephanie: You're not feeling left out?
Eric: No. I am exactly where I want to be. Now be quiet.
Stephanie: So you're not, uh, you're not gonna miss, uh, Donna's little bottle of honey?
Eric: No, no, I don't think so. I think, uh, I think honey's a little overrated.
Stephanie: I'm surprised to hear you say that.
Owen: Come on. Nick is on top of it, Jackie.
Owen: He's been using the patch to try to quit smoking.
Jackie: I-I really am so happy that he's being proactive. But he's tried quitting before.
Nick: (Spits) Hey, you wanted to see me?
Jackie: Yes, sweetheart. I-I did. I wanted to talk to you.
Nick: Oh, yeah? If this has anything to do with my smoking issue, I'm not in the mood. (Spits)
Thomas: Dad, I-I'm glad you're proud of me. It really means a lot. It's just, uh, I don't think I really deserve it, but...
Ridge: Oh, come on. Of course you do. The Taboo line's our biggest seller.
Thomas: (Sighs) It is off the charts. (Chuckles)
Ridge: Because of your hard work. I just hope that you're finding the time to get out and have a, uh, personal life.
Thomas: Don't worry. I'm having a good time.
Ridge: Thomas, is there somebody special in your life?
Thomas: Oh, yeah. Definitely someone.
Katie: What happened in Paris?
Brooke: On the way home on the plane, I woke up from a nap, and Thomas was kissing me.
Katie: Oh, my God. What did you do?
Brooke: Well, I stopped him, of course. I told him he could never do anything like that ever again.
Katie: Why on earth would he be kissing you?
Brooke: I don't know. I-I don't know, but he downplayed it. He made it sound like it was the excitement of the trip. And he said nothing like that would ever happen again.
Katie: But you think it might happen again?
Brooke: I don't know what to think. I just--I don't want to overreact.
Katie: Well, if you want my opinion, you better cut this off, because I have a feeling there's a lot more going on than what Thomas is willing to admit.
Jackie: What are you eating? Bird food?
Nick: Sort of like it. Sunflower seeds. It's supposed to keep your mouth busy so you don't feel like smoking or eating greasy cheeseburgers all day.
Jackie: Oh. Is it working?
Nick: What do you think? Hey, did you ding my car?
Nick: I've got a ding in my car, and your spot's right next to me. It's been drivin' me crazy. Did you ding it?
Owen: No, I know not to go near your car, because it's your pride and your joy. So no, it wasn't me.
Nick: I'll check the security tape.
Owen: On that note, I am gonna go and start cooking dinner.
Jackie: Thank you, darling. I'll see you later.
Owen: See you. (Whispers) Good luck.
Nick: I heard that. And watch the car!
Owen: (Normal voice) Got it.
Jackie: So how are you doing?
Nick: (Clears throat) You mean with the quitting? I can't concentrate, I have a headache, and I feel nauseous all the time.
Jackie: What can I do?
Nick: You got any aspirin?
Jackie: Yes. Top drawer, left.
Jackie: You're suffering from withdrawal symptoms.
Nick: Ya think?
Nick: Thank you, Mother.
Jackie: I've been doing some research on the internet.
Nick: Oh, yeah? Just search "miserable," and you'll find me.
Jackie: They say that, um, the withdrawal symptoms are really the strongest in the first few days after you quit smoking, but most of them, they just go away after a few weeks.
Nick: A few weeks, Mother?
Nick: A few weeks is a long time. To be really honest, I don't think I'm gonna make it. (Sighs)
Ridge: It's important to have some balance in your life.
Thomas: Well, yeah. It can't be all work and no play, right, Dad?
Ridge: Exactly. You're young. You can't be thinking about work all the time. You should be thinking about a beautiful woman.
Thomas: No problem there.
Ridge: Just don't put fame and recognition before love, okay?
Thomas: Dad, you've managed to have it all-- fame, success, and a beautiful woman.
Ridge: I've been very lucky.
Thomas: I am following in your footsteps. I want exactly what you have, like what you have with Brooke.
Ridge: Boy, I don't know where I'd be without her. She grounds me, gives my life meaning and purpose. Brooke is a phenomenal woman. I hope that someday you're able to find someone as special as Brooke.
Katie: Think about it, Brooke. This is the second time that Thomas has kissed you.
Brooke: He's probably just confused.
Brooke: I-I don't know what he was thinking.
Katie: (Chuckles) I bet I could guess.
Brooke: (Sighs) It's probably all that paranoid talk from Taylor... (sighs) about me and--and Thomas working together, and she's always saying how attracted the Forrester men are to me all the time. Maybe she's the one who planted the seed in Thomas' brain. One thing I do know-- I did not do anything to send him any mixed signals.
Katie: No, of course not.
Brooke: (Sighs) Is Thomas dating anyone?
Brooke: He's seeing Madison here and there and a model named Summer.
Katie: All right, well, that's good, right?
Brooke: (Sighs) You can't tell anybody about this, Katie.
Katie: You're not gonna tell Ridge?
Brooke: No, I canít. He said if I ever crossed the line ever again, we couldn't be together.
Katie: Brooke, you're not crossing the line. Thomas is.
Brooke: I know, but I don't think that would matter. Ridge has already forgiven me so much. I mean, if he knew about this, I would hate to think what would happen with our relationship, not to mention Thomas' relationship with his father.
Katie: Listen, the Taboo line is already doing well. It's on the map. Maybe you should back away and let Thomas take over. Seriously. Walk away, Brooke. Do whatever you have to do to protect your marriage.
Brooke: (Sighs) I don't know what to do, Katie.
Katie: You have to talk to Thomas and find out what's going on. I mean, maybe he has feelings for you.
Brooke: Oh, God, don't say that.
Katie: Well, you have to get him to open up. That's the only way to get to the bottom of this. Talk to him. Kissing someone doesn't just happen by accident.
Brooke: You're right. (Sighs) Enough is enough.
Katie: What are you doing?
Brooke: Calling Thomas. (Sighs) I need to get to the bottom of this. (Sighs)
(Cell phone rings)
Thomas: Sorry. (Purses lips)
Brooke: Thomas, it's Brooke. Where are you?
Thomas: In my office.
Brooke: I'm coming to see you.
Thomas: Uh, now's not a really good time.
Brooke: I'm on my way.
Katie: You're doing the right thing, Brooke. Don't let anything happen to come between you and Ridge.
Ridge: Could that have been the special person in your life?
Ridge: It was, wasn't it? That's the lady you've been smiling so much about the last while. Don't worry. I'll respect your privacy.
Thomas: Dad, I hate to cut this short, but I have some things to-- I, uh, you know, I need to tend to.
Ridge: Oh, you're gonna kick your old man out of here, are you?
Thomas: You know how it is.
Eric: Here. It's time to take your chemo pill.
Eric: Well, you know. Here we are.
Stephanie: (Sighs) Well, I just... (chuckles) didn't expect to have such a hottie for a nurse.
Eric: Maybe I missed my calling.
Stephanie: I think you did. The hospital's hiring.
Stephanie: It's the happening place, you know. I forgot to tell you. I saw Nick there.
Eric: You saw Nick at the hospital? What was he doing there?
Stephanie: He was getting a physical checkup, and they found a spot on his lung.
Eric: They did?
Stephanie: No, it's not cancer. No, no, but they need to monitor him. They want him to stop smoking, and he's having a very difficult time giving up those cigars.
Eric: Yeah, well, I'm not at all surprise.
Stephanie: Yeah, but he's gotta figure this out sooner or later, doesn't he? He's got that little boy. He has to take care of him.
Eric: Does Jackie know about this?
Stephanie: She does now.
Stephanie: I know. He didn't want me to tell her, but for God sakes, Eric, he needs all the help he can get, and I wasn't able to convince him, so I thought it was best to bring his mother in.
Jackie: I want to help you, Nicky.
Nick: I know you do, Mother, but I just gotta do this myself.
Jackie: I know that you like to take care of things your way. I understand that, but you are going to need help to get through this.
Nick: I've got help. I've got the patch working right now.
Jackie: And that-- that is absolutely great. That will help lessen your body's cravings for nicotine, and it will reduce those awful cranky symptoms you're going through.
Nick: Well, it's not magic, but it--it's help.
Jackie: It's really important, you know, that you not smoke while you're using these products.
Nick: I read the box, Mother.
Jackie: Well, that's good, and so you're following the instructions.
Nick: More or less.
Jackie: Oh, Nicky, this is serous.
Nick: Would you please quit yelling at me?
Jackie: I'm not yelling.
Nick: Sorry. I'm just a little on edge right now. I'm just doin' the best I can. (Sighs)
Jackie: You can do this, Nicky. I believe in you. I know that you're strong enough to overcome this addiction.
Nick: You know what? That's really where it lies. That's the problem. I'm just not convinced this is an addiction. Because I take a puff off a cigar every now and then, is that really so bad?
Jackie: Yes, it is, because you've got a spot on your... lung. Look, you're a macho guy. You don't want to admit that some little plant has taken control over you, but it has. I want you to see something. Come over here. I want you to see another macho guy, Yul Brynner. Well, Mr. Brynner has got something he wants to tell you.
Man: Ladies and gentlemen, the late Yul Brynner.
Yul: I really wanted to make a commercial when I discovered that I was that sick and my time was so limited, and to make a commercial that says simply now that I'm gone, I tell you don't smoke. Whatever you do, just don't smoke. If I could take back that smoking, we wouldn't be talking about any cancer. I'm convinced of that.
Brooke: (Sighs) (Sighs)
Jackie: Mr. Brynner was a very proud man who felt invincible most of his life. He was humbled by what happened to him, and he took responsibility, and he tried to help other people before he died.
Nick: Powerful. He was one of my favorite actors. I looked up to him.
Jackie: Then listen to him, Nicky. He said that if he could have gone back, he never would have smoked, but it was too late for him. He didn't get a second chance, but you do. You do have a chance to make changes in your life.
Nick: Mother, I respect the man. I really do, and I feel bad that-- that he died the way he did. But I'm different. I never smoked cigarettes, Mother. I have an occasional cigar. I just don't think that that's going to kill me.
Jackie: You're scared. Cigars have just become a friend to you. They're a terrible, terrible friend, but they are your friend. They're part of who you are, and they're part of your identity, and you don't want to lose that.
Nick: It's not that deep, Mother. I'm sorry. I mean, so I-I have a cigar every now and then. So what? It's not a big deal. Mother, I love you. Really, I appreciate your concern, but I'm just gonna handle this my way.
Brooke: Thomas? Come out of there.
Thomas: Not now, Brooke.
Brooke: Yes, now.
Thomas: I'm-- I'm a little busy.
Brooke: Oh, Summer. (Sighs)
Summer: Hi, Mrs. Forrester. I hope I'm not in trouble.
Thomas: (Sighs) I'll handle it, Summer.
Brooke: (Sighs) Uh, that--that note that was on your desk, that wasnít...
Thomas: For you. No, no, of course not. I left that note for Summer, but I ran into her the hallway, I guess I forgot it was on my desk.
Brooke: Oh. (Laughs)
Thomas: You thought that note was for you?
Brooke: Uh, yeah. Oh, my God. I feel a little foolish.
Thomas: (Chuckles) Yeah, Brooke, you should.
Thomas: Gosh. Are you relieved?
Brooke: Yes. (Laughs) Yes.
Thomas: Well, I'm okay, Brooke. I'm not under your hypnotic spell. So we good?
Brooke: Yeah. Yeah, we're good.
Thomas: (Chuckles) Good.
