Brooke: It's beautiful.

Thomas: Yeah, I thought it would be, uh, cool if we wore coordinating outfits for the final bow at the next showing.

Brooke: Yeah. (Sighs) Okay.

Thomas: Great. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Don't sound too excited. Let me see.

Brooke: Um, I'm still thinking about that kiss on the plane. I haven't said anything to your father yet, but I'm beginning to think that I should.

Jackie: Did you lock the door?

Owen: Should I?

Jackie: Mm-hmm. I think you should...

Owen: Oh.

Jackie: If you want this to continue.

Owen: Oh, I don't care who sees us, 'cause we're newlyweds.

Jackie: Mm. Yes.

Owen: Yeah.

Jackie: Mm.

(Knock on door)

Stephanie: Whoops. I see nothing changes around here.

Jackie: (Laughs)

Owen: (Laughs)

Jackie: Hello, Stephanie.

Stephanie: (Laughs)

Jackie: Oh, how are you? You look well.

Stephanie: I'm good. Thank you. Thank you so much. So do you. Well, you know, the doctors say I'm doing all right.

Owen: That's great news.

Stephanie: Thank you, Owen.

Jackie: And not surprising. You are a fighter.

Stephanie: I am. I... well, I don't want to be rude, but, Owen, could I just talk to Jackie for a moment alone?

Owen: Yeah, absolutely.

Stephanie: Thank you.

Owen: Mm-hmm.

Stephanie: It's good to see you.

Owen: You, too.

Jackie: I'll see you in a bit, Darling, okay?

Owen: All right. Mm. Mm.

Jackie: Mm. Keep it going.

Stephanie: Okay, okay.

Jackie: (Laughs)

Stephanie: Five minutes.

Jackie: You have got a very serious look on your face, Stephanie Forrester.

Stephanie: That's because I need your help.

Owen: Hey, Nick, I wanted to ask-- uh, yeah, you know what? I'm gonna--I'm gonna come back.

Nick: Hey, no, no. Hang on. Hang on. Uh, come over here. Help me. Tell me where I'm supposed to stick this thing. Come on.

Owen: What is it? A nic--nicotine patch?

Nick: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Owen: What, are you tryin' to quit smokin'? Good for you, Man.

Nick: (Groans)

Nick: There. I'm good.

Owen: Nick, it says to put it on your arm.

Nick: Uh, I had one on this morning.

Owen: Well, what about your-- what about your chest?

Nick: That was last night.

Owen: Dear God. You really are hardcore.

Nick: Well, I'm doin' what I gotta do.

Owen: Why now? I mean, you don't even smoke that much.

Nick: One cigar around Jack's just one too many, so, uh...

Owen: Well, I think that's awesome.

Nick: Well, let's see if it works first.

Owen: Got it. Well, good luck.

Nick: Thanks. Wait a minute. What--what do you want? What are you doing here?

Owen: Oh, right. Um, do you have any idea why Stephanie's here?

Stephanie: I sort of hesitated to come and talk to you about this because, um, your son's gonna be very angry with me.

Jackie: This is about Nicky?

Stephanie: Well, I know how busy you've bee because you're getting a whole new collection out.

Jackie: Oh, it's ours, Stephanie, I promise you. I did the drawings myself, so if you've got any questions--

Stephanie: I have-- (Stammers) I'm not worried about that at all. Honestly, I'm not, okay? It's--its lovely. It's lovely.

Jackie: But no real competition for you, right?

Stephanie: Oh, look, I haven't hardly spent any time at Forrester. I've been, you know, busy...

Jackie: (Sighs)

Stephanie: With Daisy and... (Sighs) Doctors and hospitals. My schedule's kind of been maxed out.

Jackie: Yeah, your energy, too, I'm sure.

Stephanie: No, no, no, no. Not really, I-I... I wanted to talk to you about this project, I guess I could say, that I've just sort of taken on.

Jackie: Another project? Are you crazy? You're doing enough.

Stephanie: No, obviously I'm not, because I've kind of hit a brick wall. And I need you to... I need you to help me accomplish something I can't seem to do on my own.

Brooke: You told me that kiss was no big deal.

Thomas: It wasn't. But it will be if you tell Dad. He--he'll overreact, and you remember how he got when he walked in on our photo shoot-- all paranoid and freaked out?

Brooke: Does he have any reason to be?

Thomas: No, he doesn't, and neither do you.

Nick: I'll get to that when I can. Until then, hold all my calls. You said Stephanie's in the building?

Owen: Yeah, she's in there with your mom right now.

Nick: She's in with my mother? Did they have a meeting?

Owen: I mean, Jackie wasn't expecting her. It seemed like she was just stoppin' by. And then, uh, I don't know, things just kind of seemed a little bit off.

Nick: What do you mean, off?

Owen: Oh, something was just--was weird. And I figured maybe you'd know if there was something going on. I don't know. Maybe--maybe it's nothing. When she asked me to leave, I just kind of got the vibe that things were wrong. I don't know.

Nick: She--she-- she asked you to leave?

Owen: Yeah. She said she needed to speak to your mom in private.

Madison: Trying on another dress?

Summer: Last one. I'm trying to get out of here early so I can get a mani-pedi before--

Madison: Before?

Summer: I have a date with Thomas tonight.

Madison: Really?

Summer: Yeah, it was a totally last-minute thing, and I ran into him earlier, and he just kind of asked if I had any plans.

Madison: Oh. Well, I'm sure you guys will have a great time.

Madison: (Scoffs)

Thomas: How many times do I have to apologize?

Brooke: (Sighs) That's not what I'm asking for.

Thomas: Okay, well, I don't know what else I can say, Brooke. I hadn't slept. I had been drinking. I was a little jet-lagged. I just came down from this incredible high since we--we took Europe by storm together. I was looking at you, thinking of all the amazing things you've done for me. (Sighs) Brooke, you're a huge part of my success, and I got swept up in the moment.

Brooke: You kissed me out of gratitude?

Thomas: That was part of it.

Brooke: And the rest of it?

Thomas: I was feeling a lot of things.

Brooke: About me?

Thomas: You, me, the collection.

Brooke: And stepping out from behind your father's shadow and becoming your own man.

Thomas: (Sighs) Exactly. Finally receiving the kind of recognition and respect that he always got. Yeah. (Chuckles) What's wrong with that?

Brooke: Nothing... I hope. Thomas, I need to ask. I want you to tell me exactly what you feel about me.

Thomas: (Sighs)

(Door opens)

Madison: Thomas, how could you? After what happened the other night in your bedroom, now you're dating Summer?

Brooke: Uh, I'm gonna let you two talk.

Thomas: No, Brooke, it's okay. We kissed. That's all.

Madison: (Scoffs)

Thomas: Madison, it was great. Look, it was really nice.

Madison: I thought it meant more to you.

Thomas: It did.

Madison: Just not what I thought it meant, obviously.

Thomas: Madison, we never said anything about being exclusive. I must have given you the wrong idea. Maybe I shouldn't have kissed you.

Madison: (Scoffs)

Thomas: But you looked so beautiful, and I thought we were really connecting.

Madison: Yeah.

Thomas: I'm sorry if I hurt you, Madison. I'd really like to see you again, but I'm just not ready to make any commitments right now. I'm really involved with my work. I'm traveling a lot. There's gotta be some other guys that you're interested in.

Madison: (Scoffs)

Thomas: You must get asked out all the time.

Madison: You'd be okay with that?

Thomas: Madison, I-I can't expect an amazing woman like you to be stuck in a holding pattern with me. But if you'd like to, you know, keep seeing each other, I'd really like that.

Madison: Me too.

Stephanie: There's something that your son hasn't told you, and it's--it's something I just feel you really need to know.

Jackie: (Stammers) Stephanie, Nicky is a very, very private man.

Stephanie: Yeah, he's also a stubborn jackass.

Jackie: Well, that, too, but if he wanted me to know what you're obviously going to tell me, he would have told me himself.

Stephanie: Okay, I'll protect you. I'll say that you fought the good fight, stuck your fingers in your ears, all that sort of stuff, but you really... you need to hear this.

Jackie: Is it bad?

Stephanie: He has a spot on his lung.

Jackie: Excuse me?

Stephanie: The doctors at the hospital found a spot on his lung. It is not cancer, not yet.

Jackie: Not yet? (Stammers) What's that supposed to mean?

Stephanie: It means that he has to change his lifestyle if he wants to be around.

Nick: Not one more word. Mother, I'm fine.

Jackie: Nicky.

Nick: (Sighs)

Jackie: Nicky, God, why didn't you tell me?

Nick: Mother, because there was nothing to tell.

Jackie: (Gasps)

Nick: I'm--I'm okay. It's gonna stay that way. What did you do here?

Stephanie: I told her the truth because you're so stubborn, you wouldn't.

Nick: Looks like you scared the hell out of her.

Stephanie: No.

Nick: Mother, now I-- calm down.

Jackie: (Sighs)

Nick: I didn't tell you about this because there's no reason to tell you. I didn't want to upset you. I'm not sick. I don't have cancer.

Jackie: Well, not yet, not-- but the--the spot on your lung, I mean, it--it could get worse. Oh, God.

Brooke: I think you handled that very well.

Thomas: (Chuckles) I can only imagine what you were thinking-- all that stuff about what happened in my bedroom.

Brooke: Well, you gave Madison the respect that she deserved.

Thomas: Yeah. You look relieved. I think we both know why that is. You asked me something earlier about my feelings for you.

Brooke: When you kissed me on the plane, I felt that there was something more there. And I wish that I were wrong, but I don't think I am. So if there's any chance that you're developing any--

Thomas: No, there's not.

Brooke: Because I'd have to stray from the line. I wouldn't be able to work with you.

Thomas: I know. You don't have to worry.

Brooke: Well... (Sighs) I do. I do worry because I care about you. (Sighs) Maybe your mother's right. If this situation is unhealthy, then it shouldn't continue.

Thomas: Brooke, you are not bad for me, but losing you would be. Breaking up our team-- that would not only be bad for me, that would be bad for the line. I'm not gonna let that happen.

Jackie: (Sighs) Okay. Tell me. Tell me what the doctor said.

Nick: The doctor said I don't have cancer.

Stephanie: He has anomalous cells in his lung.

Nick: Probably caused by a respiratory infection that I had some time over the past year.

Stephanie: The point is, Jackie, they want to monitor him, and if there's any change in his breathing, if there's any change physically in any way, he's got to report to the doctor's right away.

Nick: The key word being "If." It's not like I have a bull's-eye on my back.

Stephanie: Oh, you certainly do. You're still smoking.

Jackie: You have to quit.

Nick: I'm trying, Mother.

Jackie: I-it won't be as hard as the last time you tried, because now they have all those products that will help you.

Nick: Mother, I-- Mother, I've been chewing the gum. I have a patch on. I-I-I know.

Jackie: Well, that's good. I-is it working?

Nick: At the moment, no. Actually, I'm feeling rather irritable, and the thought of going back to my office and lighting a cigar sounds like heaven right now

Jackie: Will you not joke about this, please?

Stephanie: If you don't take this seriously, it's not going to work.

Nick: And if you don't quit this pressure and guilt you're putting on me, it won't work either. That might motivate your kids, but all it does for me is piss me off, so if you really care about me as much as you say, you'll both back off.

Stephanie: Well, I won't.

Jackie: And neither will I. Fortunate you are that we are not ganging up on you.

Stephanie: Well, we will I we have to.

Jackie: We're just concerned.

Nick: I know. And I'm telling you you don't have to be. I'm on this.

Jackie: Well, look, you're using the patch. That is great. But if you're talking about going in to your office and having a cigar, I'm not quite sure how much help the patch is going to be.

Nick: Mother, Mother, --

Jackie: Well, it's not something you should be joking about.

Stephanie: You realize how fortunate you are that you've been given this wake-up call?

Nick: And I heard it. I've got the gum, and I'm wearing the patch. I haven't had a cigar all day.

Jackie: Well, what about tomorrow?

Stephanie: Yeah, what about the next big crunch?

Nick: (Sighs)

Jackie: Or what about when you go on your fishing trips with your buddies? You always come back reeking of smoke. Even Jack commented on it. He said, "Daddy, you stink."

Stephanie: Oh, well, if he can smell it, that means it's in his lungs. That's affecting his health.

Jackie: You would never actually smoke around Jack. I know that.

Stephanie: (Clears throat)

Jackie: Well, you wouldn't, would you? I mean, you--you--you didn't...

Nick: (Scoffs)

Jackie: When you were with Bridget. She would never have allowed it.

Stephanie: What did I tell you yesterday? Secondhand smoke can cause childhood asthma.

Nick: I heard you yesterday.

Stephanie: Yes, but you're not doing anything.

Nick: I've got it. I hear ya. I'm quitting. I quit.

Jackie: Overcoming any addiction is a lot easier if you have the support of people who love you. And I know that you're a big, strong man. You're--you're a sailor, and you're a businessman. And you want to do this alone, but you don't have to.

Nick: Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I know that you both mean well. I do, but you're gonna have to-- you're gonna have to trust me on this. I understand that it's a health risk for me as well as Jack. I hear you. And I also understand that... (Sighs) I have a problem. And I know I can fix it. I know I can quit, but it's not because I'm a big, strong man. It's because I'm a dad. It's because I'm a son, because I'm a friend. And I know I have to stick around for a long time to make sure you guys stay out of trouble.

Stephanie: (Chuckles)

Jackie: Oh.

Brooke: The line isn't my number one concern right now.

Thomas: Well, it is mine. The men's line is everything to me, and I don't want anything to jeopardize that.

Brooke: Like telling your father about that kiss?

Thomas: Look, I know it's a lot to ask.

Brooke: Keeping things from my husband is wrong, and keeping a secret about his son is even worse.

Thomas: Yes, I'd agree if there was some sort of fallout, but there isn't. It happened. I apologized. It's--it's over. I mean, telling Dad now would just take us backward. I-I'm ready to put this behind us, aren't you?

Brooke: Yes.

Thomas: Okay. Then let's do that.

Brooke: (Sighs)

Thomas: Please? (Chuckles) Pretty please?

Brooke: (Sighs) Oh, Thomas. You are an amazing young man, and I admire you and respect you and appreciate you, but if my admiration has been misconstrued... I mean, if I've done anything to confuse you in any way--

Thomas: No, you haven't.

Brooke: I know the Taboo line makes fun of that. I mean, it plays on my history and teases the possibilities, but... (Sighs) I mean, I want to spend time with you, and I want to work with you, but you are my husband's son, and that line cannot be crossed.

Thomas: I know. It hasn't.

Brooke: You have an amazing future ahead of you, so many adventures and possibilities, and I want to be there to see that and support you all the way. I just don't want to be a distraction. I don't want to hold you back.

Thomas: Okay, then just keep doing what you're doing, Brooke. 'Cause you've been nothing but great for me. Never doubt that.
