(Elevator bell dings)

Taylor: Brooke, how is she?

Brooke: I don't know. I just got here.

Taylor: Well, I was talking to her nurse a little bit earlier, and she said she's been resting comfortably all day.

Brooke: No complications?

Taylor: No, none yet. I hope there aren't any.

Brooke: (Sighs) She's going to need every ounce of strength that she has.

Taylor: Brooke, you know, Stephanie’s condition is still very tenuous. And if something should happen--

Brooke: It won’t.

Taylor: All I'm trying to say is if things do make a turn for the worse, and they still could, you should know that you've done everything-- everything humanly possible for her.

Brooke: So have you, Taylor.

Taylor: No, no. You have been there for her before I even knew she was sick. And I know that that wasn't easy for you.

Brooke: Well, it was kind of strange. I mean, one minute, we're in my living room having a conversation like so many conversations we've had before, and an hour later, we're at the hospital, and she's being diagnosed with lung cancer. Suddenly, everything changed. All the differences we had or horrible history, none of that mattered anymore, and all I could think about was how was I going to keep her alive?

Taylor: Well... (chuckles) if it weren't for you, she might not be alive right now if you hadn't hounded her to go get treatment.

Brooke: You did a good bit of that yourself. How long do you really think she has, Taylor?

Taylor: You know the prognosis.

Brooke: I'd like to believe that it was better than that.

Taylor: Well, if determination to survive has anything to do with it, she... maybe she will.

Brooke: (Chuckles)

Stephanie: Hello?

Steffy: Grandma, hey. It's me.

Stephanie: Oh, honey, hi. How are you?

Steffy: Grandma, I've been trying to reach you. Grandma, I-I know about the cancer. Look, I-I can't be in Paris while you're sick. I'm coming home, all right?

Stephanie: No. You stay right there.

Steffy: No, no. I-I want to be by your side.

Stephanie: No, honey. No. You get on with your life. Look, I-I'm gonna beat this, and when I do, I'm gonna come over there and see you because you and Paris are my favorite things and places.

Steffy: Grandma, you've never broken a promise, so don't start now.

Stephanie: I love you, baby girl.

Steffy: I love you, too. I'll see you soon, all right?

Stephanie: Bye.

Steffy: Bye.

Hope: Hey.

Stephanie: Hi.

Hope: Is it okay to come in?

Stephanie: Sure. Sure. Sure. Sure.

Hope: I hope you don't mind. I-I brought Liam with me.

Stephanie: No. Hi, Liam.

Liam: Hi. And I brought Charlie.

Stephanie: Oh, how fabulous. Hey, Charlie.

Liam: (Chuckles)

Hope: How are you feeling?

Stephanie: Uh, I don't think I'm gonna run that marathon next week.

Hope: (Chuckles) Are you in any pain at all?

Stephanie: I'm a little loopy. They keep me very comfortable.

Hope: You have to get better, Stephanie.

Stephanie: I will.

Hope: Okay.

Nick: You feelin' better?

Aggie: (Chuckles)

Nick: Good. Don't worry about it. Amber is not a threat to you.

Oliver: How's that?

Amber: The couch is so much more comfortable. Dr. Oliver to the rescue.

Oliver: That's me. All right.

Amber: (Chuckles)

Oliver: The medicine man.

Amber: You are so great for what's ailing me.

Oliver: (Chuckles)

Aggie: Mm, I still can't believe Amber just threw herself at you like that.

Nick: Well, she didn't actually throw herself at me.

Aggie: Oh, come on. She practically laid herself bare over the train tracks. She doesn't impress me as the kind of woman who will stop until she gets exactly what she wants, Nick.

Nick: Well, it won't be me.

Aggie: Well, whoever it is, I feel sorry for the guy. He's gonna have his hands full.

Amber: Expecting a call?

Oliver: Hoping for one. But you know how that goes.

Amber: I sure do.

Oliver: Do you?

Amber: (Scoffs) Yes. Never very far from your phone.

Oliver: (Chuckles)

Amber: (Chuckles) You know, sometimes, I would-- I would sleep with it next to my ear so I wouldn't miss the call. And sometimes I would just stare at it, willing it to ring, but it seldom did. Bet you don't have that problem.

Oliver: (Scoffs) Why would you say that?

Amber: Well, let's see. Um, you're handsome. You're sexy. You're sweet. Where else is Hope Logan gonna find a guy like you?

Hope: I've been really worried about you.

Stephanie: That's not what I want to hear.

Taylor: Wow, what have we got going on in here? A party?

Hope: Oh, hi.

Stephanie: Yes, another party.

Taylor: Oh, you look really good.

Stephanie: Oh, yeah?

Taylor: Mm-hmm.

Stephanie: (Chuckles) I, uh, I heard from Steffy. She called.

Taylor: I know. She wants to come home.

Stephanie: Yeah, I know. I told her no. No. I said I'm fine. (Gasping) (grunts) (breathing rapidly)  I'm okay. I'm okay. I'm okay. (Chuckles) Yeah, I-I told her I have a lot of important work I have to do.

Hope: Important work?

Stephanie: Mm-hmm. I met this really nice girl, and she made me realize that there are a lot of people that I could help. And--and that's exactly what I'm gonna do.

Aggie: Thank you for standing up to Amber.

Nick: It was never even close.

Amber: You fell real hard, didn't you? You don't want to talk about it?

Oliver: Nope.

Amber: I heard about the whole thing with, uh, Hope's mom. Graduation party. Well, I guess the whole world knows by now.

(Daddy Yankee's "Pose" playing)

Oliver: Yep. Messed that up real good.

Amber: You know, it wasn't even your fault. But I bet she still blames you for it, right?

Oliver: Oh, not really. She just can't get over what happened. That's why I keep my phone nearby. She'll call one of these days.

Stephanie: Dayzee, come in.

Dayzee: I-I don't want to interrupt.

Stephanie: Don't be silly.

Dayzee: Well, I just went in to check on the baby, and I thought I'd stop by.

Stephanie: How is she?

Dayzee: Well, like you said, she's good, thanks to you.

Stephanie: See? (Chuckles) Uh, Liam, uh... (coughs)

Hope: You-- you must be Dayzee. Hi.

Stephanie: (Grunts)

Hope: It's nice to meet you.

Dayzee: Hi.

Liam: Hi. Nice to meet you.

Dayzee: Same here. You know what? I'm just gonna let you guys be.

Stephanie: No, no, no, no. You stay. You stay. Ho--Hopey? Uh, this is the girl I was telling you about, the one that made me decide I should live.

Dayzee: It seems like you've got a lot of reasons to want to live.

Stephanie: I do. But you made me appreciate life all over again. Thank you.

Nick: Wow. (Sighs) What you do to me.

Aggie: (Chuckles) It's so easy to do for you.  (Sighs) I wish my brother could feel like this.

Nick: What?

Aggie: My brother Oliver. I wish he could feel this. Love, you know? This...

Nick: Oh.

Aggie: Connection.

Nick: Right.

Aggie: He hasn't given up on Hope.

Nick: Uh-huh.

Aggie: You know, I don't think he ever will. I don't know. One thing is for sure.

Nick: Hmm?

Aggie: It's gonna take a really powerful force to pry his heart away from Hope.

Amber: You know, um, she'll call when you least expect it.

Oliver: That's usually when it happens, isn't it?

Amber: Yeah, it does. I mean, like today, I-I take this giant spill, and suddenly Zac Efron's icing my ankle.

Oliver: (Laughs)

Amber: I mean, who would have expected that?

Oliver: (Sighs)

Amber: A laugh. Hmm.

Oliver: Is that what that was? I have not done that in a while.

Amber: (Laughs) It's a great laugh. I mean, you use that, right, as part of your arsenal?

Oliver: My arsenal? I like that.

Amber: Yeah, I mean, you have this laugh and--and your eyes, and it's just... wow, I mean, you're just this perfect package.

Oliver: Why don't you tell Hope that?

Amber: You know, if I have to tell Hope that, then she really is blind. I mean, I've heard of blind faith, but blind hope?

Oliver: (Chuckles)

Amber: (Chuckles)

Oliver: You're funny.

Amber: (Laughs) Oh, wow, funny. Funny. I've been waiting my entire life to hear that. Funny.

Oliver: No, no, you're not just funny. You're--

Amber: Oh, what? Spill. I'm--I'm demented. I'm too fresh. I'm--

Oliver: You're full of energy.

Amber: (Sighs)

Oliver: You're alive.

Amber: Not sexy?

Oliver: That goes without saying.

Amber: Why don't I get us some more coffee while you just keep talking?

Stephanie: Dayzee, I-- honey, I don't want to embarrass you in any way. I'd just like, well, you know, for the kids to get to know you a little better, and... would you tell them your story? Do you mind?

Brooke: It's okay, Dayzee.

Dayzee: Um, well, I, um, grew up on the streets, in and out of foster homes. I never had a dad. My mom was a drug addict. It was pretty bad. She died.

Taylor: Oh, I'm so sorry.

Dayzee: I was just a kid. I mean, it was a long time ago.

Liam: My God. I can't even imagine.

Dayzee: Don't feel bad for me. I mean, I was lucky. (Sighs) People see us, and they assume that if you're homeless, it's because you're lazy or a drug addict or not all there. After my mom died, I knew that that was not the path I wanted. The foster homes didn't help because they were so unorganized. I'd just run away and end up back on the streets. It was the shelters and even people in my situation who helped me. They showed me where to get food and where to sleep, makeshift schools, and... (sighs) I'm so grateful. Sometimes, yes, I am scared, afraid of how I'm gonna take care of myself, afraid for that baby, but... (sighs) there's good, too.

Hope: Do you ever feel trapped there?

Dayzee: No. I mean, I work at the homeless shelter because I want to. I have a G.E.D. I mean, I suppose I could get a job somewhere else, but... (sighs) when I just think of all the people who lended me a hand when I needed it... (sighs) I just-- I want to give back.  And that's what Stephanie wants, too, which is great.

Stephanie: That's what we're gonna do. Right?

Brooke: Right.

Stephanie: That's what we're gonna do.

Brooke: You are so courageous.

Dayzee: I just know that when you see somebody who needs help and you can, you've gotta do it. (Sighs) I mean, getting people involved, that's the greatest need.

Stephanie: That's what I'm gonna do as soon as I'm better.

Dayzee: (Sighs) There's just so much. I mean, thousands of people know what it feels like to be homeless. And they just don't know where to turn. I mean, they want to get back up. They just need a hand.

Stephanie: If I told you long ago in a galaxy far away I was homeless, too, you wouldn't believe me, would you?

Dayzee: Mnh-mnh.

Stephanie: That's a conversation we'll have one day. I mean, this is just one of life's whimsies, you know? A scarf falls off on a roller coaster ride, a girl finds it, I find her in downtown L.A. She's with a baby. It reminds me, brings me memories of things that I know I've deliberately put aside. And I-I mean, it's all so simple. People just want to get along. They want a job. They want some dignity. They want a roof over their head, food for their families, and that's--that's what I gotta do. I've gotta help 'em. And I'm determined to, you know, over the months, the years, whatever that I have, I'm just determined I'm gonna make a difference in people's lives. And it's because of you. I've been given this kind of, I don't know, reawakening. And I thank you for it. I'm very grateful, Dayzee. Thanks. (Sighs)

Nick: (Sighs) I'm sure Oliver'll find his way.

Aggie: I just want him to be happy, you know?

Nick: Mm.

Aggie: I'm very protective of him. We've always had each other's backs since we were kids. I want him to find the right girl. I want you to find the right girl, too. And Amber is definitely not the right girl for you.

Nick: Please, just quit worrying about Amber.

Aggie: Well, it's hard not to worry about somebody that you don't trust. I just want to keep her away from everyone I love.

Nick: I'm sure you will.

Amber: So tell me I'm right. Hope will be yours when you want her because you deserve her.

Oliver: Are you this... (chuckles) supportive with everyone?

Amber: Only when I'm around someone who doesn't realize how special he is.

Oliver: If I'm so special, why did she choose Liam instead of me?

Amber: Because she's young, Oliver.

Oliver: (Sighs)

Amber: I mean, what happened with Brooke at the graduation party? I mean, personally, I think Hope overreacted a little bit. She's, like, 18. I mean, what do you expect? And maybe she'll get over it...

Oliver: (Sighs)

Amber: When she's a little older. You want to wait that long?

Oliver: As long as it takes.

Amber: Good. In the meantime, have some fun.

Oliver: Meaning...

Amber: Meaning you are a total hottie, Oliver. Get out there. Just let loose a little bit. I mean, I'm sure that's what Hope's doing.

Oliver: (Chuckles) You're right. I'm getting all this romantic advice from a very pretty girl.

Amber: You think I'm pretty?

Oliver: Come on, Amber, you know you are.

Amber: (Laughs) Thank you. It always feels good to hear that.

Oliver: Well, you're hearing it. You are a very cool girl.
