Owen: What? What does it say? Is there something wrong? Is it inconclusive?

Bridget: No.

Owen: Okay, well, then what? What--I mean, you're not pregnant. I mean, are you?

Nick: Mother, you should do something very special for that husband of yours.

Jackie: Oh, well, I'm very glad that you've accepted him, but I'm not really ready for the negligee and whipped cream talk from you.

Nick: No, mother, I mean special. Something nice like a vacation or a sports car.

Jackie: Oh.

Nick: You know, he keeps doing the beefcake thing. He can't stand it, but he does it because he loves you. I thought the guy was gonna be a leech, truly, and it turns out he's great for business. He keeps bringing us in a bucket load of money like this, and he'd do anything you asked him to.

Jackie: Yeah. Well, if it comes to that, I think it's past time that I admitted that I was wrong about Bridget. I mean, how I thought that her mother was the only woman for you... (Scoffs)

Nick: It's because Bridget was too young.

Jackie: (Chuckles) Funny, isn't it, how life makes you eat your words sometimes? I mean, it's so clear to me now that absolutely nothing is ever going to come between you and Bridget again.

Donna: Well, you must have broken the land speed record getting here.

Stephen: I'm sorry. I must have dozed off.

Donna: Daddy?

Stephen: Hi, honey.

Donna: Daddy. Dad! Wha--

Stephen: Oh, the housekeeper said it would be okay if we waited.

Donna: Well, yes. My God, where--where's Mom at? I thought you guys were in a-a cruise line or something.

Stephen: Yeah.

Donna: Wait. Did something happen?

Donna: Something's wrong. I-I-I can see it in your face.

Stephen: Oh, no, honey. Your mother is in the den. She just needed to lie down. That's all.

Donna: Oh, well, I-Is she okay?

Stephen: Donna... (Sighs) being shipboard is just not the right thing for your mother right now. Uh, she enjoyed it at first.

Donna: Well, was--was there an accident?

Stephen: Oh, no, no. It's just too many new places, new people. The unfamiliar is--is very upsetting to Beth right now, and people don't understand. And I had this crazy idea that we'd run off and get married at sea.

Donna: You didnít.

Stephen: No, no, no, no. We didnít. Your mother said that if she was getting married, she wanted to be with her daughters. So we abandoned ship...

Donna: (Chuckles)

Stephen: And here we are.

Donna: Well, I-I will tell you what. My guardian angel sent you. (Chuckles)

Stephen: Oh, why, sweetie?

Donna: (Sighs)

Stephen: What's the matter? What's wrong?

Donna: I don't know. I'm just tired, you know? I've had a difficult day.

Stephen: Hmm.

Donna: But, God, what am I saying? (Stammers) We have a wedding to plan.

Stephen: (Laughs)

Donna: (Laughs) Sorry, Dad-- (Sighs) okay, what about Brookeís garden? I mean, it's so beautiful right now. It's in full bloom. Uh, I would do it here, but, um, Eric moved Stephanie into the guesthouse.

Stephen: What? What did she do, break both legs?

Donna: No. (Sighs) You know what? Let's--let's not talk about her. Just tell me about Mom. I-I can tell it's bad.

Owen: Okay, so what does blue mean?

Bridget: Nothing.

Owen: A-and--and "plus"?

Bridget: The--the plus means positive. It means I'm pregnant.

Donna: Daddy, you're scaring me. Did Mom get sick on the cruise or...

Stephen: Donna, you know what her diagnosis is.

Donna: Long-term, yes, but--

Stephen: Well, she's getting much worse.

(Door opens)

Eric: Stephen.

Stephen: Hello, Eric.

Eric: Well, Donna, you didn't tell me your parents were back.

Donna: Well, I-I didn't know they were.

Eric: Well, that's a shame. You could have joined us today.

Donna: Eric, I didn't even know about today.

Stephen: You said it was difficult.

Eric: I'm sorry it felt that way to you.

Donna: Oh, Eric, I loved seeing you honored. And of course you--you deserve it. I mean, it was-- it was beautiful. Stephanie threw a-a-a surprise tribute to him today. I-I just don't understand why your wife wasn't involved in the planning of it. I mean, nothing, not--not even so much as a mention.

(Door opens)

Donna: What?

Eric: Hello, Beth.

Jackie: Tell me the truth. You thought I was wrong, didn't you, not wanting to adopt, far less go through all that surrogacy business.

Nick: (Laughs) Well, look at how well it worked out for us.

Jackie: (Sighs) No, I ju--I just feel that there were things that you weren't saying.

Nick: Well, Mother, it's really not about me. I mean, it's about Owen. It's about what-- what he had to decide for himself, and I think he did.

Jackie: Yeah.

Nick: There's no way a man can describe to a woman the drive we have to be a father, just like a woman can't explain what she feels. But it's there. It's, um, unselfish, and a lot of it's selfish. Look--look-look at me. Look what Bridget had to almost sacrifice because of my need to be a father, trying to satisfy that.

Jackie: No, no, no. Bridget wanted children, too, though.

Nick: Yeah. (Sighs) But still, Mother, you know, God gives you things, and it's like he's saying, you know, "Here's what you've got, and you better be grateful for it," because if you keep lookin' in the pocket for something else to replace that... my guess is something pretty bad might happen.

Bridget: This is the end of everything.

Owen: Look, no. No, it's not. No, listen to me. Look it. Breathe. Breathe. We got to think about this. We got to think. I mean, where-- (Sighs) where did you go? Where did you go the night after you left the beach house?

Bridget: I went--went-- I went home. You know I went home.

Owen: Okay, okay. You went home, all right? Did you sleep with Nick?

Bridget: Wha--what-- where else would I sleep, Owen?

Owen: Look, I mean, look, did you make love?

Bridget: (Sighs) (Stammers) Yes. Yes, we did. Yes.

Owen: Yes, okay, you did, all right? Then what about-- what about the night before?

Bridget: I don't-- (Sighs) Yeah, yeah, I thi-- yes, I think we did. What--

Owen: Okay. Okay. Then--then in all probability that this baby is Nick's. This is the child that the two of you have always wanted.

Bridget: Unless it's-- unless it's not.

Owen: No, no. Life does not work that way. We were only together once. This isn't some punishment for--for you cheating on your husband.

Bridget: God, Owen, I have lost three babies. That's what's normal for me. And now I could be pregnant with your child.

Donna: (Sighs) (Giggles) Mom, it's just so good to have you home.

Beth: (Chuckles)

Stephen: We, uh, we stopped coloring your mother's hair.

Donna: Oh, Dad.

Beth: I got tired of it.

Donna: Tired-- tired of coloring it?

Beth: Yes.

Eric: Well, it doesn't matter. I-I--all I see is that wonderful girl I knew in college.

Stephen: Honey, are you feeling rested now?

Beth: Oh. Mm.

Stephen: Yeah?

Beth: Is, uh, is the party over?

Donna: Oh, uh...

Eric: Um...

Donna: Oh, you spoke to Brooke?

Beth: Brooke?

Donna: Oh, um, you know, well, it wasn't really a party. It was more of a celebration.

Beth: What was?

Eric: I-I-It's not-- it's not important. It doesn't matter.

Donna: Um, do-- do Brooke and Katie know that you're here?

Stephen: Beth, did you show Donna what you made? In your hands, sweetheart-- what you made.

Donna: Oh, Mom, it's beautiful.

Beth: It's keepsake lace.

Stephen: We got it in Kenmare, Ireland.

Donna: (Sighs)

Stephen: Your mother found it in three pieces and sewed it together herself.

Donna: Oh, it's-- it's so delicate.

Beth: No!

Stephen: She, uh, she likes to keep it with her.

Beth: I-I keep it with me. It's always with me. It's--it's, uh, I get, um, confused and, um, this way, my--my family is always with me. (Chuckles)

Donna: I'm glad.

Beth: Eric?

Eric: Yes? Yes, Beth?

Beth: Was the, um, was the party good?

Eric: Yes. Yes, it was. It was very good.

Beth: Good.

Donna: (Sighs)

Beth: Then you'll have me back again.

Eric: Well, of course. Of course.

Beth: Well, to cater again, because, you know, it's hardly work at all.

Eric: Well, Beth, uh...

Donna: Mom, uh, you-- you stopped your catering business.

Beth: Did I?

Stephen: It's all right. It's all right.

Beth: Did I?

Eric: Beth. Beth.

Beth: Hmm?

Eric: It was a wonderful party.

Beth: (Sighs)

Eric: And I remember it still. After all those years, I'll never forget it.

Beth: (Sighs) Thank you. Thank you.

Stephen: No, no, no. It's okay.

Beth: (Sighs)

Donna: (Sighs)

Owen: Hey, I-is this something that you can do, have a baby? I thought there was some question.

Bridget: There's no question. I'm definitely pregnant.

Owen: Look, I thought-- look, I just thought that you couldn't carry a baby to term. Isn't that why you had a surrogate?

Bridget: Oh, right, yes. And Nick and I agreed that I wouldn't get pregnant, 'cause Dr. Caspary said it's too dangerous.

Owen: So then what are you gonna do?

Bridget: If it's Nick's, I'm gonna do whatever it takes.

Owen: No, Bridget, it is Nick's. I-It has to be Nick's.

Bridget: And if it's yours, what do you want me to do, Owen?

Owen: No, it's not mine. It--listen, it can't be mine-- what, that the child that I finally accepted that I'm never gonna have? (Sighs) I don't know. (Sighs) I have--I have no idea. I-I-I don't know what I want. I-I would be afraid for you. I would be afraid for us. (Sighs) I just--I love my wife. (Sighs)

Bridget: I know you do. I know. I love Nick more than I have ever loved anyone.

Owen: Wait. No, no. What are you doing? No, give me that. You can't just throw that away. Somebody's gonna see it.

Bridget: What are we gonna do?

Owen: Look, I'll-- I'll find a dumpster somewhere.

Bridget: Oh, great. How much evidence are we gonna have to destroy because of this?

Owen: Look, we're not destroying evidence. We're just trying to figure out what has happened and how to deal with this. You need to see your doctor. You need to find out whether or not emotionally and physically this is something you can do, if you can continue with this pregnancy.

Bridget: Owen... (Sniffles) I am carrying a baby. It's either yours or it's my husbandís. Just giving up without even trying? No. No, I can't do that. I'm gonna have to go tell Nick.

Owen: N-No, Bridget. No. No, please. We have to figure out--

Bridget: Owen--

Owen: We have to figure out whose it is first.

Bridget: But I could be showing by the time we take a paternity test.

Owen: No, and God forbid, you could have a miscarriage again.

Bridget: I can't go through that again.

Owen: Look, Bridget, you can't tell him. I mean, what if-- what if you are able to have this child, and it is Nick's? You can have everything that you've ever wanted... but not with him. You're gonna have to raise this child alone as a single mother. I mean, just don't say anything tonight. And all right, we'll talk about this tomorrow, and... this is way too important for us to not get this right. Please, don't say anything.

Stephen: So the second night that I woke up in the stateroom and she wasn't there, I knew I had to get her home. I found her up on the sundeck, alone, lost and confused.

Donna: Oh, you don't think that she intended to--

Stephen: No, no, no, no, honey. She's terrified of the water now. We went in the pool on the first day, and she'd forgotten how to swim. She loses track of things, of what makes her happy or what makes her sad or the important things in her life. That's--that's why that lace is so valuable to her.

Eric: (Sighs) Well, uh, what, uh, what can we do?

Stephen: I took a leave of absence from work, but it's still a lot.

Eric: You need help.

Stephen: Yes, I do.

Eric: Where are you staying?

Stephen: Well, I thought of Katie and Bill's, but they're newlyweds. I thought of Brookeís, but with the children there, it's so confusing for Beth.

Eric: No, no, no. You'll--you'll stay here with us. It's settled.

Stephen: Eric, are you sure?

Eric: Yeah.

Stephen: Then thank you.

Eric: Where are your things?

Stephen: (Chuckles) Mostly in storage.

Eric: Yeah.

Stephen: A couple of bags in the car.

Eric: Come on. I'll help you get them.

Stephen: No, no, no, no. I'll get 'em. I'll get 'em. You keep an eye on your mother.

Donna: Okay. (Sighs)

(Door opens)

(Door closes)

Eric: (Inhales sharply) (Sighs)

Donna: You would do this? You would do this for me?

Eric: All the time we've been married, saying "I love you" every morning and every night-- what did you think I meant?

Donna: (Sighs)

Jackie: (Humming)

Jackie: Hello.

Owen: Oh, you cooked?

Jackie: (Laughs) Don't be so silly. I'm not that cruel. I'd never cook you a-a really important meal.

Owen: Oh, so this is an important meal?

Jackie: Well, I feel slightly guilty.

Owen: No, you donít.

Jackie: Mm.

Owen: Because you haven't done anything wrong.

Jackie: (Chuckles) Occasionally.

Owen: Hmm? No, no. You just need to not argue with your husband, because you are perfect.

Jackie: I know how you hated doing the Cabana photo shoot. And I know that you only did it for me.

Owen: Well, there's a lot of other things that I would do for you.

Jackie: Oh. Oh.

Bridget: Nick?

Nick: You work too late.

Bridget: (Sighs)

Nick: Wine?

Bridget: No, no. No, thanks.

Nick: You sure?

Bridget: Positive. Not tonight. It looks like you made plans.

Nick: (Sighs) My secret's been revealed.

Bridget: I guess this has something to do with the lingerie line I'm designing, huh?

Nick: I thought it was time to do a little research. You're not really schooled in the ways of the world when it comes to underthings.

Bridget: I'm not?

Nick: Well, I mean, let's face it. I'm usually rippin' 'em off you as soon as you put 'em on, so I thought we'd put 'em on this time and actually see how it feels.

Bridget: I'm not really thinking that tonight's the best night for that.

Nick: Yeah? Jack's in bed. He's asleep.

Bridget: I'm just not feeling very sexy.

Nick: (Chuckles) Well, I will be the judge of this hot body of yours.

Bridget: Um, honey, you're not--you're-- (Clears throat) look, you're not hearing me right now.

Nick: Well, I'm certainly seeing you. I'm seeing a lot of fear here or something. Think we better turn that into faith, don't you think? Because I certainly have faith in you. I trust that you can do this lingerie line. I trust you in this home with my son, with me, with my life. Maybe it's time you start to trust yourself.

Bridget: Nick, stop. Please stop, Nick. Listen, I-I think-- I know you trust me, but I don't know if you should. You don't know me right now. You don't really know what's going on inside me.

Nick: It can't be that bad. I mean--

Bridget: (Sighs) It is. It is. I'm sorry. But I-- I-I don't know what this is gonna mean. I don't even know if you're gonna want to keep me. I can't-- I will probably lose you over this, but I just have to tell you. I have to tell you what happened.
