Taylor: Ridge and Brooke are not married?

Stephanie: Not legally.

Taylor: W-what happened? How--how can this be?

Stephanie: The point is it changes everything.

Brooke: Mm. Thank you.

Ridge: For that? My pleasure.

Brooke: Well, for that and for being you, your understanding, your commitment.

Ridge: We've come through the worst, haven't we? This whole thing with Rick is behind us. He and Steffy are over. Thank God. There's nothing you and I can't survive, Logan. Nothing.

(Door opens)

Steffy: Ooh. Uh, sorry about that.

Ridge: Hey, hey, it's all right. It's all right. We were just, uh, sharing some things.

Brooke: (Sighs) Hi, Steffy. I am so sorry.

Steffy: Mm. Thank you.

Brooke: I can't tell you how disappointed I am in Rick, the things that he said.

Steffy: Yeah. It's, um, it's pretty shocking.

Brooke: Well, you did the right thing breaking off your engagement.

Steffy: I'm glad you feel that way.

Brooke: I just hope and pray that this is a wake-up call for Rick. (Sighs) I'm gonna let you and your father have some privacy.

(Door closes)

Ridge: How's my little girl doing?

Jackie: Mm. Mm. (Sighs) (Moans) (Knocking on door) (Clears throat)

Arielle: Everyone's here for the meeting.

Jackie: Great. Show them in, Arielle. (Sighs) Remember, what happens behind closed doors--

Owen: I know. I know. Stays behind closed doors.

Jackie: (Giggles) (Sighs)

Bridget: Hi.

Clarke: I called Stephanie. She was unavailable.

Jackie: Oh, well, I'll fill her in. Do--do you want to start, Nicky?

Nick: The orders for the Madame X line are holding up well.

Jackie: Well, that's in large part due to Owen's magic. You are good. (Chuckles) Very good. (Clears throat)

Bridget: She's right. You handled Fabrice DuFau like a charm.

Jackie: Well, yes. Owen handles a lot of things very well, which is why I'm promoting him.

Brooke: How are you doing?

Rick: I'm trying to work.

Brooke: Good. You need the distraction.

Rick: From what? My sorry-ass situation?

Brooke: I apologized to Steffy.

Rick: And what did she say?

Brooke: Nothing. You hurt her, Rick.

Rick: I know. I know I did. Look, I've just been trying so hard to respect her decision to end our engagement, but I just-- I want to talk to her. I want to convince her that I was confused. I didn't know what I was doing.

Brooke: No, no. Don't!

Rick: She had every right in the world to dump me, Mom. I-I look back on that situation, and I can't believe it was me saying those words, and--

Brooke: Honey, it was you.

Rick: (Sighs)

Brooke: But it came out of your animosity and your bitterness towards Ridge.

Rick: You know, I take full responsibility for the things I said. But it never would have happened if Ridge didn't set me up.

Brooke: (Sighs)

Rick: I just don't understand why you won't hold him accountable for that.

Taylor: What does this mean? "I-invalid marriage license"? I'm--I'm not-- I'm not getting this.

Stephanie: It means that you will not compromise your integrity if you go after Ridge, because he's not married.

Taylor: Is this one of your creations here?

Stephanie: No, this is perfectly legit. Well... (Chuckles) in this case, perfectly illegit, because it's invalid.

Taylor: Ridge and Brooke messed up on their own marriage license? I don't--I don't see how that could even happen.

Stephanie: Well, actually, it was Pam. She did something with the paperwork.

Taylor: Your sister Pam.

Stephanie: Yes. Typing was never her forte, and I guess, I don't know, she turned the social security numbers around, something. I don't know.

Taylor: Did she do this intentionally?

Stephanie: No, absolutely not. No, no, no. It was an accident. Of course, as you and I both know, there are no real accidents in life.

Nick: So you're promoting Owen?

Jackie: Yes. He deserves it.

Nick: We usually discuss these things.

Jackie: We've both been busy, Nick.

Nick: Yes, you have been home a lot with that flu bug.

Jackie: (Scoffs) What, you think I've just been lazing around on the couch watching the telly? No, I have been very, very occupied. Tell him, Owen.

Owen: Yeah. I mean, whenever she stays home from work, I end up going to bed exhausted. We're on the phone constantly-- all the time.

Jackie: He--he's very good. His, uh, his talents are very rare.

Bridget: Well, I-I would love to be the first to congratulate you, Owen.

Owen: Thank you. Thank you.

Bridget: Mm. Well deserved.

Clarke: Hear, hear! Uh, you mind if I ask what Owen's new position will be? I mean, you're not a designer, are you, pal?

Jackie: (Laughs) Heavens, no. We already have one exquisite designer. Well, and another one. No, this is in keeping with our new business plan, hiring up-and-comers... (Laughs) new, young, hot blood. And Owen, well, he has proved himself beyond my wildest expectations. His new title is going to be chief of staff.

Ridge: Your mother and I-- it's like the weight of the world has been lifted off our shoulders. Sweetie, we are so proud of you.

Steffy: (Chuckles) God, I wish I were proud of myself. I just--I feel so stupid being taken in. It's like, did he ever love me? Was any of this real?

Ridge: The guy is a train wreck. Anyone that crosses his path is in for trouble. Sweetie, there's nothing to feel guilty about or ashamed of. It's over now. You need to move on. And trust me, there is someone far better out there for you.

(Knocking on door)

Marcus: Excuse me.

Ridge: Hey, Marcus. Come on in.

Marcus: Um, sorry. I didn't meant to interrupt.

Ridge: It's all right. It's all right. What's up?

Marcus: Well, I heard that you broke up with Rick. I just came by to make sure you're okay.

Steffy: Thank you, Marcus.

Marcus: Yeah, you-- you did the right thing, Steff.

Ridge: Oh, I don't think you have to convince her of that.

Marcus: You do know you need to stay away from him, right? Because if you don't, he'll just try to talk his way out of this like he always does. You know he will.

Brooke: Don't you dare put the blame on Ridge.

Rick: (Sighs)

Brooke: You said those things. You disrespected Steffy. Ridge had nothing to do with that.

Rick: He baited me, Mom.

Brooke: He allowed you to open your mouth, and what came out was cruel and vicious and totally uncalled for.

Rick: I wouldn't have said those things without provocation, all right? I-I-I'm not excusing myself, but--

Brooke: But you are. You are excusing yourself. You're justifying it, and there is no justification for hurting the person that you love. Maybe someday, you'll realize that.

Rick: I know that now. If I could just talk to Steffy, maybe she would see--

Brooke: Please, Rick! Don't you dare go near that girl.

Rick: Don't worry, mom. I know where Steffy stands.

Brooke: But I do worry, because of where I stand. My relationship with Ridge is in jeopardy because of your involvement with Steffy. For months, I have done what you wanted me to do. You have gotten your way, and it's only put a huge strain on my marriage to Ridge. So now you are going to do what I want, and I want you to stay away from Steffy, because if you don't, my marriage is going to blow apart. Really, Rick, that is how serious this is. So just stay away from Ridge's daughter. Your relationship with her is over. Do you hear me?

Taylor: (Chuckles) Stephanie, this is a clerical error that can be fixed. And trust me, when Brooke sees it, she will. This doesn't change anything.

Stephanie: I don't agree with you. It's because of Rick. Rick has changed everything.

Taylor: Okay, wait. I'm not making this connection.

Stephanie: Did-- Ridge spent the night here with you and the kids, and you said that it just felt so real, so natural. Didn't you say that to me?

Taylor: What--what-- what I said was that it was a one-time thing.

Stephanie: Okay. Here's my point. Brooke chooses her son over her husband every single time. That young man is responsible for you daughter's death. That young man treated Steffy like dirt, and yet his mother stands by him unwaveringly. Ridge can't live with something like that, not in the long run. He will not be able to live with Brooke.

Bridget: Hey, you.

Owen: Hey.

Bridget: Congratulations.

Owen: Thank you very much.

Bridget: I mean, chief of staff. Wow. (Laughs)

Owen: (Laughs) I know. I didn't even see it coming.

Bridget: Oh, come on. She gave you at least some sort of a hint.

Owen: No, no, no. That woman is so hard to read.

Bridget: And she's very demanding.

Owen: Yeah, I second that. She's insatiable.

Bridget: So... how about a little payback?

Owen: Payback?

Bridget: You bought me dinner after the fashion preview, so now you get to cook dinner.

Owen: Oh, wow. It, uh, really looks like I'm makin' out like a bandit here, right?

Bridget: (Laughs) Your house, 7:00? I'll bring the salad.

Owen: Yeah. Oh, um, let me check with the boss first. I got a couple reports I want to get back to her. I want to make sure they can wait till tomorrow.

Bridget: (Sighs) Mm.

Nick: Well, congratulations. She's expecting a lot from you.

Owen: Thank you very much. I'm gonna give it my best.

Nick: You do that.

Bridget: So if I don't hear from you, I'll just assume that we're on for dinner.

Owen: Yeah, I-- wait, are you--are you sure that you want to do this?

Bridget: (Sighs) Does that answer your question?

Owen: Yeah, my, uh, place at, um, 7:00--7:00 P.M. 7:00.

Steffy: Look, I appreciate all the advice, guys, but Rick’s not gonna be a problem for me.

Marcus: Well, yeah, if you stay away from him.

Ridge: Marcus is right. He's dangerous. Remember, this is all about him and me. He feels like I've beaten him.

Marcus: Which means he has something to prove.

Steffy: Do you really think he's that much of a head case?

Ridge: Oh, come on, sweetheart. Look at the way he's treated you. That's not normal. You've got to keep your distance from Rick. I'm not gonna let him torment you anymore. Those days are over.

Brooke: Tell me you will not go near Steffy.

Rick: She doesn't want to have anything to do with me, Mom. I'm not gonna force myself on her. Instead, I'm gonna work on bettering myself.

Brooke: I think that's a good idea.

Rick: I think I know what I did wrong. I allowed my anger towards Ridge to take precedence over my feelings for Steffy.

Brooke: Your anger towards Ridge was uncalled for period.

Rick: But if I could just focus on being the man that Steffy wants, the man that Steffy deserves, maybe she'll give me another chance.

Brooke: Oh, my God. Did you even hear a word that I had to say? Ridge and I are not bulletproof. I mean, you may be thrilled to hear that, but I'm not. I am still in love with that man. Your involvement with Steffy is not going to ruin that for us. Stay away from her, Rick. I'm not asking. I'm demanding. You keep your distance from Ridge's daughter. Do not go anywhere near her.

Taylor: So what shall I do? Um, run to Ridge and tell him now we--we can be together? And then he'll just drop Brooke like that, and we'll all be over it?

Stephanie: No, I agree. That won't happen.

Taylor: You do?

Stephanie: Yeah, because the timing is all wrong. (Sighs) They'll just go get a new license, have a new ceremony, and then everything will just be, you know, forgotten.

Taylor: Which, again, makes this pointless.

Stephanie: No, it doesn’t. It's because matters are still unresolved. The engagement has been broken, but that is not going to last.

Taylor: You really think that Rick will try to go after Steffy? Because I don't think so.

Stephanie: Oh.

Taylor: He knows that Ridge and I won't have that.

Stephanie: (Chuckles) It's inevitable. It's inevitable. He's so filled and so consumed with hate for Ridge that he's just determined to make his life miserable. When he goes after Steffy, Brooke will stand by him, and when that happens, there will be a terrible, terrible fight-- a terrible fight. That's when you show him this. This. Show it to him. And it will make it easy for him to walk away.

Taylor: (Sighs)

Owen: Wow. You really blew my mind today.

Jackie: (Laughs) Really?

Owen: Chief of staff.

Jackie: Mm.

Owen: That's, uh-- you're crazy.

Jackie: It comes with a raise. How does 30% sound?

Owen: Sounds, uh, sounds generous.

Jackie: Ooh, you don't think you deserve it.

Owen: I won't let you down.

Jackie: Well, you haven't yet. And believe me, you're going to earn every penny.

Owen: So what are my responsibilities?

Jackie: Um, we'll get into that tomorrow. I saw you kissing Bridget out there.

Owen: Yeah. Is that, uh, is that gonna be a problem?

Jackie: Why should it be a problem?

Owen: Well, she asked me to go to dinner with her tonight at my place.

Jackie: And you said?

Owen: That I would really like to go to dinner with her, but unless you've got some work for me to do, and you need me to work late tonight, then--

Jackie: Oh, I don't see any reason why you should have to work late tonight. Go ahead. Have dinner with her.

Owen: And you don't mind?

Jackie: I think you're wasting your time. She's still smitten with my son.

Owen: Well, maybe things have changed.

Jackie: Or maybe she just wants to make him jealous. He's going to find out, you know.

Owen: So what about you?

Jackie: What about me?

Owen: No, uh, jealously?

Jackie: (Chuckles) I'm not the jealous type. Go and have dinner with her. She's lovely.

Owen: I will make it up to you.

Jackie: Oh, you don't have to make it up to me. I'm very happy with our arrangement. Unless, of course, you feel the need to reassure me, my darling new chief of staff. Your dating Bridget doesn't mean the end of us.

Owen: Hmm. Looks to me like I, uh, need to get back to work then, huh?

Jackie: Don't disappoint, Mr. Knight.

Owen: Oh, I won't, Mrs. Marone.

Marcus: You do know you need to stay away from him, right? Because if you don't, he'll just try to talk his way out of this like he always does.

Ridge: Marcus is right. He's dangerous. Look at the way he's treated you.

Stephanie: Rick isn't going to stay away from your daughter, and that is why Ridge's marriage isn't going to make it.

Taylor: (Sighs)

Stephanie: Sweetheart, sometimes you have to take advantage of a bad situation. Now I know--I know-- I know how you feel about Rick and Steffy, and I know that you're hoping and praying that she'll be able to resist him, but that's not what's gonna happen. He's going to go after her, because that's just the kind of person he is. He's a Logan. They're all like that. And when it happens, I want you to show this to Ridge, because this is his ticket to freedom. This is his ticket to you.

Taylor: If Rick continues to be a problem, all right, Stephanie. I'll go to Ridge, and I'll fight for him. And I will win.
