Thomas: What? Hey, if you're not eating it--
Steffy: I was.
Thomas: Mm, no. No, you werenít.
Steffy: Hey, hey, hey.
Thomas: So--oh! Oh, no! Not the dreaded pinky twist.
Steffy: Mm. (Laughs)
Thomas: Oh. Oh! Ah. That's my sister.
Thomas: Nobody messes with Steffy Forrester. Hey, she is one tough chick.
Rick: (Yawns) Hope and R.J. go to school yet? Did Ridge spend the night at Taylorís last night?
Brooke: I don't know.
Rick: Yeah, you do. It's like the last time they spent the night together, cuddling up at the Big Bear cabin.
Brooke: With Steffy and Thomas. And you know why they were there.
Rick: Yeah, I remember. It was after their failed attempt at breaking Steffy and me up. Except this time, they succeeded, so I bet they were up all night last night celebrating.
Taylor: (Laughs) I know. I'm sorry you had to leave early.
Stephanie: Well, how did it work out last night?
Taylor: Mm-hmm. It was really fun. We had so much fun with Steffy. It was--it was good for her. She--she feels much better when she has her family around her. It--it was very important for her.
Stephanie: Well, Taylor, that's what I sensed, and that's why I left.
Taylor: Yeah. (Sighs) And it just felt so right. It was--it was great. It was amazing having everybody together. And then this morning, Ridge and I were just in the kitchen. We were listening and eavesdropping on Steffy and Thomas having breakfast.
Stephanie: Oh, so he stayed overnight?
Taylor: Uh, yes, in the guest room.
Stephanie: Well, you can remedy that, can't you?
Taylor: Yes. I would like for that to be arranged, but Ridge is still married to Brooke, and I'm going to respect that.
Stephanie: (Laughs) Well, fortunately, I don't have to do either. Oop, Taylor, I've got to go. People are here. Gosh, what took you guys so long?
Nick: We're right on time.
Stephanie: Oh, I like to start early. Bridget's show got us off to such great momentum. I don't want to lose it.
Jackie: Speaking of momentum...
Jackie: Somebody told me that we've got another write-up today in "Eye on Fashion," and I've bought a copy...
Stephanie: Oh, wonderful.
Jackie: Right-- oh, no.
Nick: What's the matter?
Bridget: Is it bad?
Jackie: It's terrible.
Stephanie: Bill Spencer's dead.
Jackie: You obviously hadn't heard.
Stephanie: No. And the funeral's today.
Bridget: Was he sick?
Stephanie: I don't know. I hadn't talked to him for a while. You know, he sent that lovely e-mail about the show.
Nick: And you were close with him, weren't you?
Jackie: You know, he worked right here in this office.
Bridget: Right. He owned Spectra for a while.
Jackie: I know. It's terrible news. The fashion world's gonna be devastated.
Stephanie: We never seem to learn, do we? I meant to call him, and I kept putting it off, and I... now I'll never have a chance to talk to him again. I'd better call Carolineís sister. I'd better call Karen.
Brooke: You're trying to make me feel insecure.
Rick: I'm not trying to do anything. I'm just telling you that your husband spent the night with his ex-wife last night.
Brooke: Oh, my God. I am not gonna listen to this.
Rick: You don't want to have this conversation 'cause you're afraid of what you might say.
Brooke: (Sighs) We're going to get through this, Rick.
Rick: Oh, God. Ridge left last night. He walked out the door. You didn't even have to tell him to leave.
Brooke: He wanted to stay.
Rick: He just--no. He bolted because he couldn't deal with me.
Brooke: I told you not to get involved with Steffy. I knew it would end this way.
Rick: It's not over yet. Mom, if I could just talk to Steffy alone without Ridge around, and then maybe--
Brooke: Absolutely not.
Rick: She still loves me, Mom.
Brooke: She broke off your engagement.
Rick: Because of Ridge.
Brooke: I don't care what the reason is. This is a fact, and you need to listen to her and accept her decision.
Rick: It's not her decision. That's the point. It's Ridge and Taylorís decision. They set me up, and Steffy left me, and it's only a matter of time before Ridge leaves you.
Brooke: And that's exactly what you want, isn't it? Tell me, Rick, who's really being manipulated here?
Taylor: You don't have to worry about a thing. Your dad and I will take care of it, okay?
Steffy: People sent wedding gifts, though.
Taylor: They can be returned.
Steffy: But what about the band for the reception?
Ridge: Sweetie, we'll cancel them out.
Thomas: Just don't expect to get your deposit back. Hey, if that's the price for freedom, I'd say you're getting a deal. What? I'm not gonna pretend like I'm all broken up about this. Look, I'm sorry you're sad. You thought Rick was a good guy, and he wasnít. But I'm not sorry he's out of your life. I'm relieved, and you should be, too. He turned our home into a nuthouse. He made me crazier than anybody. What I did was wrong. I went way too far. But I was acting out of love, and that's why I'm telling you this now, because I love you, Sis, and I want you to be happy. And now that you have Rick in your rearview mirror, I think you will be.
Thomas: Come here.
Thomas: I think we all will be.
Ridge: As long as we back each other up. Don't just assume that everything's okay. We need to talk to each other, ask for help.
Taylor: And no keeping secrets.
Ridge: You can always come to your mother and me. We may not be married anymore, but we're still a family.
Taylor: Even if your father's not around.
Ridge: I will be.
Ridge: I have two families, both equally important to me, and I haven't been around here. I regret that. I left a big void in this household. Thomas felt like he had to take up the slack for that. I'm very sorry.
Ridge: I give you my word-- I will never put you in that position again.
Stephanie: That's-- that's the private number, correct? Okay. Thank you.
Stephanie: Karen? Karen, it's Stephanie Forrester.
Karen: Stephanie. Hello.
Stephanie: I just wanted to give you my condolences. I'm so terribly sorry about your dad.
Karen: Thank you. I-I really appreciate that. It means a lot.
Stephanie: I know people say this all the time, but is there anything I can do for you?
Karen: Actually, Stephanie, there is. Before my father died, he instructed me to contact you.
Stephanie: I-I'm very happy to help you in any way I can, Karen.
Karen: Thank you. My dad said I could count on you.
Stephanie: Well, you can, and... (sighs) I was gonna call him, uh, you know, uh, earlier this week after that e-mail. I just... (sighs) I never got around to it.
Karen: I can't tell you how happy it made him to see you doing so well.
Stephanie: Well, thank you. Um, he said something interesting, uh, in--in the e-mail, and--and so I'm kind of wondering was--was he ill for a long time, because he mentioned that he hoped that he would be around to see my next triumph. Did he think he wasn't going to be?
Karen: Dad's, uh, health took a turn for the worse. He'd been declining for weeks.
Stephanie: And there was nothing they could do for him?
Karen: Well, they made him comfortable, which gave him time to get his affairs in order, and I think he was really grateful for that.
Stephanie: So you're gonna be running the company from now on?
Karen: Oh, my gosh. I don't know who will be running the company. You know, my father was holed up with his lawyers a lot there near the end, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if he chose someone else.
Stephanie: But you've been at Spencer Communications for years. I mean, you're his daughter, for gosh sakes.
Karen: Exactly. Maybe if I were his son-- you know dad was very old-fashioned that way. Only boys in the boardroom.
Stephanie: (Laughs) He never treated me that way, honey.
Karen: (Laughs) Well, I have a feeling you're the exception to a lot of rules. You know, he admired you very much.
Stephanie: Well... (sighs) the feeling was mutual. You know, that e-mail that I got, as I told you, earlier this week, it really-- it got me to thinking, uh, about your father and you and Caroline and... if she hadn't been taken when she was so young, how Ridge's life might have been so different. No Brooke.
Brooke: You don't respect my marriage to Ridge. You never have.
Rick: Mom, if your own husband doesn't respect your marriage, why the hell should I? I mean, one minute he tells you that everything's gonna be okay. The next, he's torching my engagement.
Brooke: He thought he was protecting Steffy.
Rick: Ridge told you that he was ready to accept my marriage to Steffy. So either he was lying or something's changed. And that something could be his feelings for you.
(Cell phone rings)
Brooke: It's him. Hello?
Ridge: Hey. I thought I should check in.
Brooke: (Sighs) I'm glad you did.
Ridge: How are the kids doing? They get off to school okay?
Brooke: Oh, yeah. Yeah, they're fine. I told them that you went to work early.
Ridge: Yeah. Well, I'll be coming home pretty soon. I'm still at Taylorís.
Brooke: You slept there last night?
Ridge: (Sighs) Actually, I didn't get much sleep at all.
Brooke: (Sighs) Yeah. Me neither.
Ridge: Logan, this isn't what I want at all.
Brooke: I didn't want you to leave.
Ridge: But you understand why I couldn't stay there. It's not you. It's Rick. The guy's done nothing but cause problems between us. You've really got to get him out of the house before he does more damage.
Brooke: (Sighs) So you think our marriage has been damaged?
Ridge: It's been strained, and it's gonna continue to be strained as long as he's in our lives. I realize you don't see it that way, but for the life of me, I don't know why. If you just would listen to those recordings--
Brooke: No. I don't need to. Rick told me what you made him say. (Sighs)
Ridge: That's just the thing. I didn't make him say any of that. Look, I don't want to argue about this anymore. The truth about your son is finally out in the open. (Sighs) My daughter has cancelled the engagement, and I'll be home to the house there as soon as he's gone.
Brooke: But until then, you're staying at Taylorís?
Ridge: I'd rather sleep in our bed tonight. Whether I do or don't, that's totally up to you now.
Ridge: Look, I'll see you at work. By the way... (sighs) I wanted you to know that I'm going to ask dad to fire Rick.
Ridge: I want him as far away from my family and me as possible. I know you don't understand that. Hopefully, someday you will.
Brooke: Ridge, please.
Ridge: Logan, I've got to go now. Bye-bye.
Eric: I heard about Bill Spencer. I thought you might need me.
Rick: So Ridge has gone to dad? Wants me gone?
Brooke: Out of the house... (sighs) out of the company.
Rick: And if you don't go along with it, then Ridge is not coming home? So let me get this straight. First, he sets me up. And now he's blackmailing you. We cannot let him get away with this, Mom. For once in your life, you have got to stand up to this man.
Taylor: (Scoffs) You're taking a stand for our daughter.
Ridge: Against Brookeís son.
Taylor: That will be the way she sees it.
Ridge: I expect dad will see it that way, too.
Taylor: Until he hears the things that Rick said about Steffy.
Ridge: I just want Brooke to realize how destructive he is. She will. She has to.
Taylor: And then you can go back over there, and Rick will have to leave.
Ridge: Taylor, I'll be back here the moment you need me to.
Taylor: Well, I think we'll be fine.
Ridge: Look... if our kids need anything, if you need anything, I'll be back here. All you have to do is call anytime.
Taylor: Thank you.
Ridge: Thomas got the help he needed. Steffy finally sees Rick for the bastard that he is. Our kids are doing better, much better than they were last week, because of you.
Ridge: You're a remarkable woman, Doc.
Stephanie: You thought I might need you?
Eric: I know how close you and Bill were.
Stephanie: You're offering your support?
Eric: Yes. Look, I discussed this with Donna, and, uh, as much as she would like to be there today to pay her respects, she understands the situation. There will be a lot of our old friends there. Given our history with Bill and our standing in the-- in the fashion community, I think maybe you and I should go together.
Stephanie: Oh, so you could be the, uh, sensitive ex-husband allowing, uh, his grieving ex-wife to put her head on his shoulder?
Eric: You don't have to go through this all on your own.
Stephanie: Eric, I've been going through a lot for a long time on my own, even when we were married. (Sighs heavily) But this is so like you, isn't it? Eric the good... (clears throats) always there in the crisis. That's what allows you to get away with all of this, isn't it?
Eric: Get away with what?
Stephanie: Being a rutting, selfish old bastard. You thought I might need you. Well, I... (chuckles) I did for about 50 years. I waited for about 50 years for you to grow up... to be treated with comfort and respect and not just because Mrs. Honey Bear gave you permission. Thank you very much. I don't need you.
Eric: (Sighs) So there's nothing I can do to help. You're still too angry with me?
Stephanie: No. And I-I--no. That's because I have no expectations of you. The children do, and they are a bit humiliated by your antics...
Stephanie: But I am not. Not anymore. I am no longer the suffering spouse.
Stephanie: That is a role that, uh, never really suited me.
Eric: Well, this one fits you like a glove, doesn't it? You know, you and I used to be able to coexist no matter what, no matter what was going on in our lives.
Stephanie: You mean no matter who you were sleeping with.
Eric: Oh, this is not about Donna. (Scoffs) God. You know this is why I fired you.
Stephanie: You know, you did me a favor. I would never have walked away from Forrester. (Sighs heavily) Somehow, I've found a way to throw off that mantle of being a matriarch, and Nick and Jacqueline have given me a chance to be who I really am.
Eric: Stephanie Douglas. Yes, yes. I remember.
Stephanie: You think that this is, um, just the same as every other time that we've separated, but it isnít. You think that I am just waiting for you to come to your senses. But I've come to mine. I don't want you.
Eric: You can't mean that.
Stephanie: Don't presume to tell me what I--
Eric: I did not come here presuming to tell you anything.
Stephanie: Yes, you did... because you're operating with the same old thinking that nothing's changed, but everything has changed for me. You want me to go with you to Bill's funeral. (Laughs) And you have the nerve to say it's for my sake, when you really mean it's for your sake. I'm sorry, Eric. I can't go with you and be friendly in public, because I am not your friend. I'm your competitor, and I am a woman who's declared her independence... (sighs heavily) independence from you, from the company that we built together, from your new views, your new wife, your antics. I am free. I am free of you. I don't want you. I don't need you. And I don't want or expect to see you again.
Eric: Gee, I don't know what to say.
Stephanie: "Good-bye" would suffice. I'll always treasure my memories. You are, after all, the father of my children. But we are no longer husband and wife. We're not lovers. We're not business partners. And sadly, we're not friends.
Stephanie: So "good-bye" will suffice. (Sighs)
