Rick: Steffy, please. One more chance.
Rick: Look, I am so much more than the man you heard on that recording. I can prove that to you.
Steffy: I don't think that's possible.
Rick: Yes, it is. If you would just allow me--
Steffy: At the very least, end this vendetta against my dad. But you can't do that, can you?
Brooke: I know you and Donna are concerned, but don't be. These issues with Rick and Ridge, they won't become a problem in our marriage.
Katie: You sound so sure about that.
Brooke: Yes, I am, because Ridge and I promised each other that we're not gonna let this come between us, and we wonít.
Katie: What about the problem in the bedroom?
Brooke: Oh. Well, that's stress. Trust me. I know how to take care of that.
Katie: Are you sure Taylorís not a factor?
Ridge: This is taking far too long. What the hell are they doing?
Taylor: As long as they're not down there trying to work things out.
Ridge: I think we should go down there.
Taylor: No, Ridge. I--let her do this by herself. We can trust her.
Ridge: It's Rick I don't trust. You got to know he's trying to worm his way out of this.
Taylor: And if she lets him?
Ridge: What, we just accept it? No. No, no and no. Never. I want this relationship over and finished tonight.
Steffy: You know, of course you can't make peace with my father. I don't even know why I asked.
Rick: Well, you did ask the question, so why don't you give me a chance to answer it?
Steffy: Because at this point, you'll say just about anything.
Rick: Well, now you're being unreasonable!
Ridge: He's yelling at her now. To hell with this.
Steffy: Unreasonable? You treated me like a piece of property in front of my dad. "I own her."
Rick: I was wrong, Steffy. I admit that.
Steffy: Then accept my decision. It's over.
Rick: I-I'm trying to make amends here. What do you want me to do? Get down on my knees and beg? I'll do anything, anything you want. I-I'll--I'll even play nice with your father.
Steffy: "Play nice"? That's what you think I want, for you to pretend some more?
Ridge: All right. Time's up, Rick. You're out of here.
Steffy: Dad, I'm handling it.
Ridge: Then why is he yelling? I can hear him from the bedroom.
Steffy: Because he's desperate. He knows it's not going to work. It's over, Rick. Leave.
Rick: We're not done here.
Ridge: You heard her. Leave.
Rick: You're the cause of all of this mess.
Ridge: Hey, I didn't force you to say those words. I just recorded them.
Rick: You provoked me, and you know it.
Ridge: You've been saying stuff like that for months. I just allowed my daughter to finally hear you say it.
Rick: So you've won now? Is that what you're thinking? Got your daughter underneath your thumb all over again?
Steffy: Oh, you know what? Get out. That's an insult. Mom, get him out of here.
Ridge: No, wait. Rick, what I finally have is a daughter who sees you for who you really are. Now get out, or I'll throw you out the door.
Taylor: You okay?
Steffy: Just how could I have been so wrong?
Ridge: Sweetheart, you weren't wrong. You were honest. Rick was wrong by putting on a false front.
Steffy: He wanted to use me to get to you. I wonder if it's even gonna end. I mean, with--with you and Rick.
Ridge: Oh, don't worry about that.
Steffy: Knowing Rick, he's probably gonna try to break up and you Brooke.
Ridge: Brooke and I will be okay. We promised each other we're not gonna let him come between us. You just concentrate on getting your life back on track, okay? Brooke and I will be fine.
Katie: You know, wouldn't it be cool if this wedding really did bring Rick and Ridge together?
Brooke: I have a very strong feeling that it will. Oh, Rick, there you are. (Door closes)
Brooke: You know, we were just talking about your wedding, and we have a few questions. Where's that list, Katie?
Katie: Here, let me grab it.
Rick: Wedding's off.
Rick: It's over. It's done. It's finished.
Katie: Uh, um, I'm gonna go.
Brooke: What happened? You got into an argument?
Rick: (Scoffs) I wish. Steffy doesn't want to be with me anymore, because she doesn't trust me.
Brooke: Did you do something?
Rick: Yeah. I had a little conversation with your husband.
Rick: Mom, he did the most lame, pathetic, underhanded thing he could possibly do. He deliberately tried to break up Steffy and me. And unfortunately for me, it worked.
Brooke: Ridge set you up?
Rick: He incited me, Mom. You know how it is. Ridge provokes me, and then I say things that I shouldnít.
Brooke: (Sighs) Like what?
Rick: (Sighs) I don't know. I-I-I guess I insulted Steffy. I-I don't think that I did, but she said she felt disrespected.
Brooke: You disrespected her?
Rick: No, I didn't disrespect her. Like I said, Mom, Ridge and I were arguing, and--and it got really gnarly. The thing is I-I wish to God I could take back what said. I would take it back in a heartbeat. But Ridge gave me enough rope to hang myself, and like an idiot, I tightened the noose.
Brooke: So let me guess. (Sighs) Then he went to Steffy, and he told her all about it.
Rick: (Sighs) No. See, that would be too honest, too straightforward. He recorded the conversation.
Brooke: He deliberately recorded one of your arguments?
Rick: Yes. That's what I'm trying to tell you. It was planned, Mom. I-I went in there, and he provoked me, made sure that I said some things that would upset Steffy. He stabbed me in the back. It's pure and simple.
Brooke: Well, I agree. That is terrible.
Rick: Wait a second. You--you agree?
Brooke: Well, you're not exactly Mr. Innocent, but if it happened the way you're explaining to me, then, yes, that is wrong. I-I just can't believe Ridge would do something like that.
Rick: Well, you would be surprised of what your husband is really capable of. He's been planning this for quite some time, Mom.
Brooke: You must have said some pretty nasty things.
Rick: Well, of course I said some nasty things, Mom, we were arguing.
Brooke: Okay, look. Just--I'm sure this will all blow over. Just stay away from Steffy for a little while. She'll come around.
Rick: No, that's the thing. It's over. She made that quite clear. I just can't believe this is happening, Mom. It--Steffy and I were on the jet, and we were on our way to a nice, romantic getaway. And y-you will never believe what happened. Ridge drives his car onto the tarmac, gets out and starts running down the runway at the jet like a maniac.
Brooke: Oh, my God.
Rick: Yeah, we were taking off. The man could have been killed.
Brooke: Uh, wait. And then he stopped the plane, and he played the recording for Steffy?
Rick: No. See, that's the thing. Ridge did not play the recording for Steffy. Taylor did.
Rick: Mm-hmm. They were working together on this.
Steffy: How many times did you tell me not to trust Rick?
Ridge: Finally you realized you couldnít.
Steffy: Yeah, but at what price? Hearing what he said to you about me, I-I can't even imagine what you felt. I just feel so numb. (Sighs)
Taylor: Steffy, you've been grieving. You're still feeling that. You've been feeling so alone and very vulnerable, and he just answered that need in you.
Steffy: Yeah, just so I thought.
Ridge: Sweetheart, none of that matters anymore.
Steffy: But it does, Dad. But it does. You guys mean so much to me. And you were grieving just like I was. And I ignored you.
Ridge: You were in pain.
Steffy: Yeah, and Rick took advantage of it. And I believed him. I thought he loved me. All the while, he was using me to get to you. I don't even think he knows what love is. Dad, I'm--I'm sorry. I'm--I'm sorry. I am so sorry, Dad. (Sniffles)
Ridge: Sweetheart, there's no need to apologize.
Ridge: No need. I'm just glad to have you back. I was feeling a little like I had lost another daughter.
Steffy: (Sobs) Dad, you're not gonna lose me.
Brooke: They planned this together, Taylor and Ridge?
Rick: Well, I haven't given it much thought, but, yeah, they had to have worked together. They were out to break up my engagement at any cost.
Brooke: Maybe it isn't over.
Rick: (Scoffs) Steffy hates me. And you know what? I don't blame her. I deserve it. I-I never should have said the things that I said. I allowed myself to fall right into Ridge and Taylorís trap. I thought that if Steffy and I could just get married and say our vows on the beach that everything would be great.
Brooke: It isn't over. Do you hear me?
Rick: (Sighs) Mom, you're the eternal optimist, and that's why I love you. But I am no match for Ridge and Taylor. I--they have such an influence over Steffy, and now that they're a team again, I--
Brooke: They are not a team. (Scoffs) But something must have gone wrong here, because Ridge promised me that he was gonna work through these issues with you, that somehow, he was gonna resolve everything.
Rick: It is resolved. Steffy and I are broken up.
Brooke: That's not what he meant when he promised me that.
Rick: All right, are--are you sure about that? Because this was so-- so well thought out, so planned and premeditated. They had to have known exactly what buttons of mine to press to get me to blow my top. Look, Mom, I know how much you love your husband, but what Ridge did today, what Taylor and Ridge did today is just so evil. Steffy and I could have done anything, the brightest future you could possibly imagine. And she was making me a better person. She was helping me turn my life around, Mom, and now it's all ruined. They were out to get me, and you know what? They got me. And now I've lost Steffy for good.
Brooke: (Sighs) You stay right here. I'll be back. (Door closes)
Ridge: How's she doing?
Taylor: My heart breaks for her.
Ridge: Mine, too. But she's better off now.
Taylor: Is it over for those two?
Ridge: We have our daughter back, Doc. Rick can't hurt her anymore. Yeah, it's over. We have our family back. Your family's safe again.
Taylor: What's left of it.
Steffy: (Sniffles) (Sniffles) (Sniffles) (Sobs quietly)
Steffy: (Sniffles) (Sighs) (Sniffles)
Taylor: You're a very brave young woman.
Steffy: (Whispering) Yeah. (Sniffles) It just hurts so bad.
Taylor: I know.
Brooke: (Sighs) I talked to Rick.
Ridge: Then you know.
Brooke: About the way you provoked him and recorded his responses and then played them back for Steffy? That is how it happened, isn't it?
Ridge: It had to be done, Brooke.
Brooke: You really did this, Ridge?
Ridge: Oh, I didn't provoke him. He's been saying all those things for the last couple months, and always while we're by our--ourselves. He did that because he knew he wouldn't get caught. If I'd said something to Steffy, it would have been my word against his, and he's got her wrapped around his little finger. I just felt my daughter deserved to know what your son has been saying about her, about me, about the way he controls her.
Brooke: So you resorted to dirty tricks.
Ridge: Like I said, it had to be done.
Brooke: I thought we had an agreement to work past this.
Ridge: We did, Brooke, and we are past it.
Brooke: Ridge, you destroyed a wonderful relationship.
Ridge: A wonderful relationship? Oh, my god, Brooke, Steffy was just a pawn in his ugly little game.
Brooke: The only thing ugly about this is the way you treated my son.
Taylor: No, Brooke. We did what we needed to do and we should have done a long time ago.
Brooke: You put him up to this.
Ridge: It was my idea, Brooke. It wasn't like that at all.
Brooke: You didn't do this alone, Ridge. She just admitted it.
Taylor: We did it together. We did what we needed to do to protect our daughter from your sick, spiteful son.
Brooke: It wasn't your call, Taylor. They're both adults.
Taylor: No. Your son is emotionally a child. He only does what he wants to do, what's good for him.
Brooke: But he was good enough for you to take to bed.
Taylor: That's a low blow. But that's exactly what your son's problem is. He goes after people when they're most vulnerable, when I was depressed and my life was falling apart. Your son is very disturbed, and if he doesn't get help, he's going to self-destruct.
Brooke: Is that your professional, unbiased opinion?
Taylor: He enjoys hurting people, and that is wrong.
Brooke: He wasn't hurting Steffy. He loves her.
Ridge: He didn't respect her, Brooke. He treated her like he owned her. He even said that.
Brooke: You say things that you don't mean in the heat of an argument.
Taylor: Well, you obviously did not hear anything he said. And I guess you've forgotten the litany of things he's done to Eric, to Stephanie, to this company and especially to Ridge. He speaks to Ridge horribly. He treats him like garbage, and you just sit there. You don't do anything about it. Don't you care about your husband?
Brooke: Don't you dare question the love I have for my husband.
Taylor: When people love someone, they support them, but you just sit back and--and you--you side with your son, and you go with every one of his sick, twisted plans. You just sit there, and you allow him to-- to treat Ridge horrible. He--he taunts him. He mocks him. He berates him. And you just let him do it. (Scoffs) If you ask me, Steffy and Rickís relationship is not the only one that should be cut off here.
Taylor: You know, Ridge, I... (Sighs) I have never even said this to you yet, but I don't know how you can expect to have a normal marriage with a woman whose son is responsible for your daughter's death. That on top of the fact that she doesn't respect your opinions-- she isn't loyal to you. She's more loyal to her grown son than she is to you. That is not a balanced relationship. It's dysfunctional, and it will only get worse, Ridge. Believe me. It is painfully clear to me what it's doing to you. Look at the courage your--your daughter had. Look at what Steffy did and--and walk away from this crazy family of hers. You know where you're welcome and--and you're loved and you're respected and you're honored. Here. You belong here with us.
