Stephanie: I know exactly what you're up to.
Nick: I'm not up to anything. I made you a job offer.
Stephanie: (Laughs) This is what people do when they're desperate. I wasn't born yesterday, kid.
Nick: Well, excuse me. For someone who's just hit rock bottom--
Nick: You told me how you felt, Stephanie.
Stephanie: Stop! That was my first mistake. I should never have let my guard down where you're concerned.
Nick: But you did.
Taylor: Stephanie, let him just keep talking.
Stephanie: I don't trust him.
Taylor: You might actually have him over a barrel.
Nick: I don't trust her.
Stephanie: I don't like him, either.
Nick: I don't like you either, but I don't think you have to like somebody
work with them. Look at you and Eric. Really, how long has it been since you liked each other?
Stephanie: Son of a bitch.
Nick: The guy walks all over you. He fired you from your own company. I am giving you a shot to get a new life here, Stephanie.
Stephanie: No, you're not. You're asking me to save your ass and your mother's ass.
Nick: Maybe I should have just left you out there on that beach. Maybe I should have just left you there to feel sorry for yourself all alone.
Jackie: Oh excuse me. Let me let you out. Nothing better to do than lounge around my office all day?
Katie: I'm just waiting for Nick.
Jackie: Yeah? You shouldn't be here. You work for Forrester.
Katie: (Scoffs) You know, Jackie, you really shouldn't think of me as the enemy. I could be an ally.
Jackie: Oh, ho ho.
Katie: I mean, my position at Forrester allows me access to a lot of information that you and Nick might find interesting.
Jackie: Mm. Mm.
Katie: But I wouldn't want to be in the way.
Katie: I'll talk to Nick when I get home.
Jackie: This wouldn't be about the shake-up at Forrester, would it?
Katie: Actually, there's some big news that's about to break.
Jackie: Oh, let me take a wild guess. Stephanie Forrester has been fired.
Ridge: Word's already beginning to spread about Mother's departure.
Eric: Yes. Yes, I've heard, and I-I want to make the official announcement myself, so, uh, to that end, I've invited Jarrett over for an exclusive. (Door opens)
Eric: Oh, there you are now.
Jarrett: Yes, uh, your secretary told me to come on in. I think I may know why I've been summoned. There’s a rumor going around and you want me to the record straight.
Eric: No, to the contrary. What you've heard is true. Stephanie is no longer with us here at Forrester Creations.
Nick: It's beautiful, isn't it, the way everybody sees things differently? Well, the way I see the situation is... I saved your life.
Stephanie: (Laughs) What, by giving me a lousy cup of coffee and an old blanket? Nick, I'm not interested in your offer.
Nick: Stephanie, I am offering you a lifeline here-- a business deal, not pity. Shoot me for thinking you might bring something amazing to Jackie M., and don't forget that Forrester gave you the boot. We need somebody with your extraordinary experience and reputation. You know, "honey bear" may not get it, but I know how valuable you are. I'm not asking you to fall in love with me.
Stephanie: Mm. What's the real reason you're making me this offer?
Katie: How did you know about Stephanie?
Jackie: (Chuckles) Nicky tells me everything, Katie. As much as I despise the woman, I can't imagine why Eric would force her out of that company. I mean, it's insane.
Katie: Well, things have been difficult ever since he married Donna. The three of them haven't had exactly the best working relationship.
Jackie: Yes, well, I have little respect for that marriage. Just another in a series of very bad choices that Eric has made.
Jackie: But if he's pushed Stephanie out just to give Donna more of a say at Forrester Creations, then that is a serious error in judgment, because Stephanie-- well, she's the heart, the soul of that company. If he thinks he's gonna have the same prominence and cachet without her, he's in for a very sorry disappointment. The press-oh, my. They're gonna have a field day. (Chuckles) And you, dear, you as their public relations liaison... (Whispering) You'd better be prepared for the backlash.
Katie: Oh, don't worry about me. Jarrett is gonna back the story. There should be an announcement shortly.
Jackie: (Normal voice) Hmm. Well, I for one can't wait to see how Eric is going to announce to the fashion world that he's fired Stephanie from Forrester Creations. (Clicks tongue)
Jarrett: So you're going on record? Stephanie is no longer employed at Forrester Creations?
Eric: That's right. Look, I have profound admiration and respect for Stephanie’s contributions to the success of this company. But she and I have ended our working relationship.
Jarrett: Well, rumor has it that you fired her yourself. Is that true?
Eric: Oh, I'm not going to go into those kinds of details.
Jarrett: Yeah, and-- and also, word is that Stephanie has vowed never to step foot in this building again. Is that true as well?
Eric: You'll have to ask her about that. I don't speak for her.
Ridge: Jarrett, that's enough for today. We've--we've made our statement. Thanks.
Jarrett: Right. Right. Right. One final question. Um, now that the queen has been dethroned, how will Forrester Creations continue without her?
Donna: Jarrett... (Sighs) We're embarking on a new era here. We're very excited about the future of this company...
Donna: Looking forward with a-a fresh perspective.
Donna: It's out with the old, and in with the young. (Laughs)
Nick: I know what's going on here. She's pissed off at Eric and taking it out on me. What's the therapeutic term for that? It's projecting, isn't it?
Taylor: Traumatic reenactment.
Nick: She's pro--
Stephanie: You are broke. You're broke. That's company of yours-- its credit line is dried up. I know all about it. What you need is my money.
Nick: I don't need your money.
Stephanie: Then what?
Nick: I don't know. Maybe I need a lunch buddy to take me out and charm the pants off me every day.
Stephanie: Or do you just want to stick it to Ridge for taking Brooke back from you?
Nick: Oh, please. That's such old news. The truth? I need you. I don't have your clout. I don't have your reputation.
Stephanie: Nor should you ever expect to.
Nick: I'll give you an example. Fabrice DuFau in Paris-- I've left messages for him for weeks, and he hasn't returned my call. You on the other hand, you would have him eating out of your hand. That, with the right therapist? My God, I see an amazing team forming here.
Stephanie: It ain't gonna happen, Nick. I may no longer be at Forrester Creations, but it’s my children's legacy, and I will do absolutely nothing to damage it or harm it. And I certainly am not going to be disloyal to my husband.
Taylor: Why are you protecting a man who threw you out like an old pair of socks?
Nick: Stephanie, why is your loyalty with someone who does not appreciate you? I promise you, at Jackie M., you would get the respect you deserve. Your talent, your wisdom would be appreciated for once in your life!
Nick: Maybe you're right. Maybe we couldn't work together. Maybe you just wouldn't know what to do if someone actually did respect you and appreciate you. Maybe you've been playing second banana to Eric for so long, you just don't have the confidence and courage it takes to step out on your own. I think you do.
Nick: I'll see you, ladies. (Door opens) (Door closes)
Donna: You handled Jarrett very well, sweetheart.
Ridge: Wish I could say the same for you, though. "Out with the old, in with the young"?
Donna: (Laughs) It just kind of slipped out.
Brooke: Jarrett did make some valid points, though. Stephanie is synonymous with this company and everything we stand for.
Ridge: The question is, how are we gonna survive without her?
Katie: Hi, sugar.
Nick: Well, no bloodshed. That's one good thing today.
Jackie: Why the mood, Nicky?
Nick: It's a long story.
Katie: We've got time.
Nick: After I saw Stephanie at the marina, I started thinking. I thought about how much she still has to offer. You know, she's a tremendous force in the fashion business.
Jackie: We all know that. Where--where are you going with this?
Nick: She carries power.. her name commands respect. She gets phone calls returned, which is more than I can seem to manage lately. Fabrice DuFau still hasn't called me back. (Clears throat) Now thinking of Stephanie, her position, I thought she might be good for us, so I offered her a job.
Nick: Yes, Mother, here.
Jackie: You offered Stephanie Forrester a job at Jackie M. Designs? What did she say?
Nick: I don't think it's gonna happen. She accused me of pitying her...
Nick: Wanting her for her money, and trying to get revenge on Ridge.
Jackie: Oh, how dare she suggest that we need a handout from her?
Nick: Well, the bottom line is, I think she's still loyal to Eric. Maybe the two of them deserve each other.
Nick: Could I really deal with that woman on a daily basis?
Jackie: Could anyone?
Nick: Well, it doesn't look like it's gonna happen. Maybe it's for the best.
Nick: Maybe it's a good thing.
Stephanie: That guy is just too transparent.
Taylor: (Sighs) Stephanie, I really think he was being very genuine.
Stephanie: Please. Jackie M. is on the verge of bankruptcy. I mean, he wants me to come in and save his ass. This is such a classic ploy. You know what they have to do? You go out, and you get a new but highly successful partner, and then it makes the books look good.
Taylor: Well, I would call that a huge compliment, Stephanie. Nick is a very savvy businessman. He is not stupid. He knows what a-an amazing and powerful presence you have with the entire fashion industry.
Stephanie: Yes, and I worked hard to earn that respect, and he wants to take advantage of my reputation. Taylor, I don't want-- I don't want to work with him, and I don't want to work with that mother of his, okay? And besides, I could never be disloyal to my husband that way.
Taylor: (Sighs) Stephanie, you've said that more than a few times. Eric is not your husband. Look, I admire your loyalty to that man after everything he's done to you. I admire your loyalty to your family, but there comes a point when you have to let go. And you've got to go and live your life. Let it go. Now Nick is here, and he's offering you this- (Sighs) It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. You said yourself that you don't know what you're going to do with your life now, that you don't know what your purpose is gonna be when you wake up in the morning. You know that-- that old adage, "when one door closes, another one opens"?
Brooke: Stephanie has been a major force in this company, but things happen. People move on. Companies evolve. And now this gives us an opportunity to grow. We will carry on.
Ridge: What Mother stands for, the dignity and respectability that she's always brought to this company-- it's gonna be hard to replace.
Eric: Nobody's gonna try to replace your mother.
Brooke: Of course, she will be missed. There's no doubt about that. But that just means we have to be more creative, more innovative because of what we've lost. And we can. We can do this. This is going to be a fresh start for all of us.
Stephanie: The idea of starting over again? (Groans) I'm too tired. (Sighs)
Taylor: (Sighs) Stephanie, if you would just let yourself see what's just been dropped in your lap, you'd be jumping for joy right now.
Stephanie: Don't tell me that you think that my future lies in Nick Marone's hands. Please. (Sighs)
Taylor: Listen. There is no way he could be taking advantage of you.
Stephanie: Taylor, the man doesn't have an ounce of integrity in his body.
Taylor: No. Now wait a minute. That's where you're wrong, because that is what drew me to Nick in the first place--his integrity.
Stephanie: Really? And after what he did to Bridget, you think anyone should trust him?
Taylor: Now if I-- if I remember this story straight, it was Bridget who extended her kindness to Katie when she was very ill...
Taylor: And she thought she was dying. And then-- I'm not trying to be insensitive here-- but as is traditional with all of the Logans, Katie took advantage of Bridget, and then she stabbed her in the back.
Stephanie: It takes two, honey.
Stephanie: That he would allow that to happen to Bridget speaks volumes about his character.
Stephanie: You can’t trust him. Why would I want to be in business with someone that I cannot trust?
Katie: Well, for what it's worth, I think offering Stephanie a job at Jackie M. was a brilliant idea.
Nick: Could you not mention this at Forrester? Just drop the whole thing, because she's not interested. It's--it's a dead end.
Katie: Okay. I'll drop that.
Nick: Is there something else?
Katie: Well, it's not about that.
Nick: W-what's on your mind? Did you want to talk about something?
Katie: (Sighs) You know your mom pretty much hates me.
Nick: Don't worry about my mother.
Katie: She really doesn't want you to marry me.
Nick: (Laughs) Well, it's not her decision.
Katie: I just want you to know that I know you have a lot on your mind...
Katie: Saving the company, and it's just that when we're ready to move forward, I'm--I'm ready. I've been thinking.
Katie: I really want my dad to give me away. I really want our wedding to be something special. Okay?
Taylor: All right, Nick has made some mistakes in the past, but we're not talking about Nick. We were talking about you.
Taylor: And starting over, and building a new life.
Stephanie: Look, I have to build a new life. I know that. But it doesn't mean I'm gonna go into partnership with the competition. I promise you that.
Taylor: So does Eric really deserve your loyalty? What did he do to earn that? Really? The underlying reason you were even fired is because a young woman came along and seduced your husband. Eric made a choice to allow that, okay? And it wasn't just the first time.
Stephanie: Okay, you're right. It's déjà vu. I get it. (Sighs)
Taylor: (Sighs) You know what? I never used to understand the level of resentment you had for them, but now unfortunately I do. (Chuckles) It isn't just the women, either. Look--look at Rick, what he did. Look what he did to my family. He went through every one of us, just exactly the same way Brooke did it to yours.
Stephanie: It's a really sick behavioral pattern.
Taylor: Yeah. It cost us Phoebe.
Stephanie: That family has cost us so much.
Taylor: It's cost me everything. (Scoffs) Really, Stephanie, they have taken my husband. They've taken my son's sanity, my daughter, everything! It's because of them that I'm here and I'm alone.
Stephanie: Now stop. Stop. Stop. Come here. Look. Come here. For whatever it's worth, you've got me. (Chuckles) And you were correct a moment ago. Let's stop ranting and raving against the people that have hurt us, right? Why give them the power? We were good people. We can rise above this. Come on. We're strong women here. Thank you. Thank you for asking me to come here and be with you, because we're gonna survive this together, all right? This may be the darkest moment that we share, but we have the intelligence and the decency and the morals and the ethics. We can beat those Logan girls. Better yet, we can triumph over that Logan family. Our day will come.
