Ridge: Thomas should be in the air by now.
Taylor: (Sighs) Yeah.
Ridge: Maybe you should call James again.
Taylor: I want to, but I better not, you know? James told me he would be there for him, and I know he will be. So it'll be fine.
Ridge: Well, I'm just glad James offered to help him.
Taylor: I just hope he can. He has to, Ridge. How did we not see it? How did we not know our son was in so much trouble?
Nick: You hired who?
Jackie: Owen Knight -- (Scoffs) formerly of Forrester Creations.
Nick: Oh, the surf line.
Jackie: Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Nick: That thing bombed. Why would you hire somebody that has--
Jackie: It wasn't his fault. Well, maybe it was. It--it--it doesn't matter. I find him impressive.
Nick: "Impressive." Mother, we're trying to lift this company from financial ruin. We agreed that we would have no new hires.
Jackie: He's hardly costing us a cent. And he's a very sharp young man. And quite frankly, I could do with the help. Nicky, this is a step in the right direction. I promise you. With--with Owen on staff and Bridget designing, you'll soon forget we ever had financial problems.
Nick: Well, let's hope so. Where is Madame X anyway?
Jackie: Oh, I gave her the day off. Well, so that she could go and tell her father the truth behind her recent career change. Oh, don't worry. Don't worry. She filled me in. (Laughs) Eric was very shocked, of course, but, well, he took it in his stride. Do you know what? (Chuckles) He actually tried to poach her away from us. But finally, he understood why she wants to stay here.
Nick: Well, good for him.
Jackie: No, good for us. We certainly need her.
Stephanie: Eric, have you heard--
Eric: Heard what?
Stephanie: Well, have-- have you heard that--that Rick and Steffy are engaged?
Eric: What? (Laughs) No, they're not. It's a little-- a little fast for that, isn't it?
Stephanie: "Fast"? Wait a minute. Are you gonna support this relationship?
Eric: No. Although I have to say, I don't see why not.
Stephanie: Oh, for God's sake, Eric.
Eric: Well, no, Brooke said something to me earlier about Ridge and, uh, Ridge and Taylor maybe beginning to accept that relationship for the sake of peace around here. You know, it got me thinking.
Stephanie: I'm sure it did.
Eric: Would it be so bad to have some peace around here? And who are you and I to tell these two kids what they should feel or what they shouldn't feel? Now maybe if Ridge is willing to begin accepting the situation, then--then maybe you could, uh, instead of stomping around the building and pretending to be some rumormonger, maybe you could begin to accept the situation, too.
Stephanie: Oh, so you're just going to roll over and accept this?
Donna: (Singsong voice) Oh, Eric, time for a little break. (High-pitched voice) Mmm, I'm fresh out of the microwave, and I don't know what to do with all this warm, sweet honey.
Donna: (Normal voice) Stephanie. (Laughs nervously)
Stephanie: Let's go talk to Ridge.
Eric: Would you excuse us, Stephanie?
Eric: I'd like to spend some time alone with Donna.
Stephanie: Eric, this is a place of business. I mean, for God's sakes, can't you keep these--uh, these antics in the privacy of your own home? Come on. This isn't just insulting to me. It's insulting to the whole company. Where are your priorities? What the hell has happened to you?
Jackie: (Sighs) Mr. Williams, we were expecting you.
Mr. Williams: I doubt that, since you don't return my calls.
Jackie: Oh. Yeah, uh, our telephone has been ringing off the hook ever since our successful fashion show. I mean, it-- it has been mayhem around here. I'm sorry.
Nick: So-- (Sets book on desk)
Nick: What can we do for you?
Mr. Williams: Your successful fashion show allowed you to pay your bill for two straight months. I was impressed. So what happened?
Nick: I know we're a bit late.
Jackie: Uh, fashionably so, one might say.
Nick: We're gonna be, uh, needing a bit more time.
Mr. Williams: Now, Mr. Marone--
Jackie: Didn't you get my press package? The one I sent over to you all about Madame X? Mr. Williams, we are the talk of the fashion world.
Mr. Williams: Talk is cheap. I need to see the money. From what I hear, Madame X is an unknown.
Jackie: Well, she's not going to be unknown for long. We're about to announce her identity, which is Bridget Forrester.
Nick: (Quietly) Mother.
Mr. Williams: As in Forrester Creations?
Jackie: Yes. Eric Forresterís daughter is going to be designing for us.
Mr. Williams: Well, uh, this definitely works in your favor. Let me take this back to the loan review committee and see if we can buy you some more time. (Door closes)
Nick: (Normal voice) Okay.
Jackie: How about that? (Laughs) I mean, all you have to do is just mention the Forrester name, and the windows start flying open. Wow.
Eric: My priorities are not the ones that need to be adjusted here.
Stephanie: Well, there's a bottle of honey on this side of the room that says otherwise.
Donna: Spending time with his wife should be his priority, Stephanie. Now just because, when you were married, he spent every waking moment trying to avoid you-- it's not my fault.
Stephanie: If Steffy thinks that she can marry Rick, then this man should be paying attention to his son, and even you surely can understand that.
Eric: Look, I don't see what's so wrong about the two of them getting together.
Stephanie: Steffy Forrester marries Rick Forrester?
Eric: Oh, come on, they don't share a speck of D.N.A., and you know it. Now if it's the fact that they share the same last name that's got you in a snit--
Eric: You have only yourself to blame for lying to me all those years about who Ridge's-- Ridge's father really was.
Stephanie: This is wrong. This is just wrong. She's too young. She has no idea what she's getting into.
Donna: They're both of age, Stephanie.
Stephanie: He's not sincere about this, Eric. He's just doing it to stick it to Ridge. Now you are Rickís father. You've got to talk to him and make him understand this is unacc--
Eric: No, you do not dictate to me what I have to do. Not anymore.
Stephanie: Right. Right. Right. More important for you to pour a bottle of honey over her than pay attention to the needs of your family, so I guess, as your ex-wife-- (chuckles) it's up to me to try and still make you become the man you never really have been. More important to you to walk around with this slut on your arm than to pay attention to what's going on.
Eric: Now, Stephanie, you will treat Donna with respect, and me, too. I won't tolerate this anymore. There's only so much I can tolerate.
Stephanie: No, Eric, that's just the point. You will tolerate just about anything. You've always been that way. You put your blinders on. You have a cute little girl on your arm, and you're happy as a clam. And I have to accept the responsibility, I guess, for a lot of that, because I let you get away with it all these years.
Donna: Well, guess what, Stephanie? He is not your problem anymore. So why don't you be a good little ex-wife and go? I'll take care of him.
Stephanie: You know, your family has just about destroyed everything that I ever held dear to me. (Sighs) I built this company-- (Laughs) and created an image that was well thought of all over the world. But that's gone. The class, the style, the elegance--it's all gone. And you are so foolish, Eric, if you don't understand that the clientele is going to go, too. You know what? I'm too old and too tired for this. I can't take this anymore. (Sighs)
Eric: You know, you talk about this as if you were the sole owner of this company, the sole member of this family, as if I were some kind of accessory that just came along with everything.
Stephanie: That's not what I said--
Eric: What, your family? Your company? Your accomplishments? Everything you built? You wouldn't have built anything if it hadn't been for my designs.
Stephanie: Yes, we did it together. Your designs and your tal--
Eric: And your father's money. That's right. Oh, I forgot. It's your father's money. It wouldn't have accounted for anything if it hadn't been for my talent.
Stephanie: Well, your talent is always the basis of that, but don't minimize what I brought to the partnership. I handled and took care of everyday life so that you were free to create. I maintained an air of respectability so that women all around the world would be proud to wear those designs.
Donna: Oh, yes, the dignified and decent Stephanie Forrester. You know, wasn't it not so long ago that Eric had to sell the company to keep you out of jail?
Stephanie: We all make mistakes, Donna. Let's just stay focused on the important thing-- Steffy and Rick. I'm not gonna put a smile on my face and accept this.
Eric: Well, then donít. You're free to go. No, no, that's not right. You're not free to go. You have to go. I'm finished with this. I want you out of here. Go on. Go.
Stephanie: You're firing me?
Stephanie: You don't mean that.
Eric: This is my company, Stephanie. You've never been satisfied being a partner in this company any more than you were satisfied being a partner in our marriage. The only thing you really know how to do is control. What, you say you're too old and too tired for all of this? Well, so am I. I had a heart attack last year. It's not clear to me exactly how much time I have left in my life, but you can be damn sure I'm not gonna spend it fighting with you.
Stephanie: Well, if I--
Eric: You're fired!
Stephanie: If I fight with you about the company, it's only because I care about you and the family.
Stephanie: Eric, this is-- this is all--this is all silly. This is-- this is just a big mistake.
Eric: No, this is no mistake. This is not a mistake. I have a wife who supports me, who cares about me, who listens to me. You need to go. I don't need you.
Stephanie: You don't need me?
Eric: I don't want you. I don't want you here. You're negative. You're confrontational. And you're angry about something all the time, and you pit people against each other, and then you pick a side for the fight, and that's the only thing you do anymore. I don't want you. Good-bye.
Stephanie: Well, maybe after Rick has hurt you more than you are capable of taking, and when you have finally had your fill of all these Logans running up and down the hallways at Forrester...
Stephanie: (Chuckles) (Sighs) Don't come knocking at my door. I won't answer. (Door closes)
Jackie: Well, next time our banker friend calls, we can actually answer, because he's going to want to shower us with money just for hiring a Forrester.
Nick: I still don't get why that makes any difference.
Jackie: Oh, Nicky, surely you've been in this business long enough to see.
Nick: See what, Mother?
Jackie: Maybe you're just blinded by your hatred for Stephanie. (Sighs)
Nick: (Scoffs) I don't really hate Stephanie.
Nick: I can't say that I like her that much either.
Jackie: The point is that she's got one thing going on for her. She is half of one of the most successful fashion houses of all time. Stephanie and Eric Forrester-- well, they've spent their lives building a company that is synonymous with grace and charm and elegance. His designs, her cachet. It's really something to be admired, isn't it?
Donna: I am so proud of you.
Eric: No, no, no. Why I let her push-- she pushes me so far.
Donna: I'm glad she did, Eric.
Eric: Yeah, yeah. (Sighs)
Donna: Eric? Eric, look at me. Please don't you change your mind. You did the right thing. My God, somebody had to stand up to her. She has spent years undermining you, our--our marriage, criticizing my family, even--even your own son. You know, enough is enough. She had to go. (Sighs) And believe me, darling, I mean, itís-- (Sighs) it's gonna be a much better place to work around here without Stephanie.
Stephanie: (Sighs) I just had it out with your father.
Ridge: What about?
Stephanie: He fired me.
Stephanie: He said he doesn't need me.
Ridge: That's ridiculous. He didn't mean that.
Stephanie: Yes, he does. He wants me gone, and I want to go. I don't want to be here under these circumstances. I'm gonna leave the company.
Ridge: Oh, Mother, you're not going anywhere. This company is as much yours as it is dadís. I'll talk to him.
Ridge: Mother, come on.
Stephanie: No! I don't want to be where I'm not wanted.
Ridge: It was stupid of him to even say something like that to you. You're critical to this operation. You always have been. We'll fight him on this.
Stephanie: What's the point?
Ridge: You're half of Forrester creations. That's the point.
Stephanie: Yeah, and the other half is married to Donna, and that's the simple reality. It's time to accept it and to move on, and to tell you the truth-- (sighs) it's really awkward being here and being around them. Why am I doing this to myself? Fashion's for the young, honey. My time has come and gone. I've worn out my welcome here.
Jackie: All right, what is it?
Nick: Excuse me?
Jackie: You've got something on your mind. You have that look.
Nick: Just thinking.
Jackie: Mm-hmm. About a certain woman?
Jackie: Okay, look, I'm not gonna harp, but if Katie is causing you stress--
Nick: I'm not thinking about Katie.
Jackie: Oh, Bridgetís on your mind?
Jackie: (Sighs) Then, please, pray tell me what woman consumes your thoughts.
Nick: Stephanie Forrester and the impact she's had on the fashion industry.
Jackie: (Gasps) I'm in shock.
Nick: Why? She's a tough, old broad, but she's smart, and she's got savvy. And like you said, Forresterís reputation is based on Stephanie, and her clientele respects her.
Jackie: Yeah, that's absolutely true, which is why we are so lucky to have got our own Forrester designer when we did.
Nick: Why, Mother? Explain why are we so lucky?
Jackie: Because nothing is the same over there since Eric married Donna Logan. The class, the--the--the consistency, just making sure that Forrester creations says on point-- that all came from Stephanie. Their clientele is fascinated by her-- you know, the woman behind the man. Everybody knows that the wit and the grace of that company came from her. So, yes, we are very lucky to have got our own Forrester designer when we did, because I'm telling you, with Donna at Ericís right hand rather than Stephanie-- (Sighs) God knows what the future of that company is going to be.
Stephanie: Good-bye, Eric.
Eric: Stephanie, there's something else I want you to understand.
Stephanie: Eric, um, let's just make this a clean break. It'd be a lot easier for me, okay? I really don't want to compromise my self respect any more than I already have, but I also want you to understand I don't wish you ill. I truly--I truly hope you'll be happy. I think you're also going to regret this day, because I think Forrester has lost something important. And I don't think the company's ever going to be the same again, but that's your problem now. I have my own. My-- (Sighs) work here has come to an end. But I'm not at the end of the road yet.
