Steffy: You won't let me be with Rick? My protective brother who tried to kill my boyfriend? Who are you?
Thomas: I'm looking out for you. Sparing you from that sick, disgusting pig.
Steffy: No! You are the one who's sick. You have turned into someone I don't even know anymore. You tried to kill him! Look at me. You're crazy, you know that? You're crazy.
Nick: Mother, I'm starving! Come and get some food with me, will you?
Jackie: Uh, no thanks, sweetheart.
Nick: Would you take your foot off the gas?
Jackie: (Sighs) Nicky, Jackie M. is still struggling to survive. You know that. There's work to be done here.
Nick: Okay, well, here-- do it tomorrow.
Jackie: (Scoffs) Well, I can get a jump on things tonight.
Nick: You know, you've been saying that for weeks. Would you just relax? Take a breath, enjoy a moment not worrying about this company.
Jackie: You know what I'd enjoy? I would enjoy seeing you back with Bridget, and Katie out of your life.
Pam: What do you want?
Pam: (Sighs) Well, me, too, Brooke. I would really love it if somebody would tell me what the heck I am doing in here.
Brooke: You tried to kill my son.
Pam: Wrong. And you did not phrase that in the form of a question. Thank you for playing. Good-bye.
Brooke: Sit down!
Pam: Just about everybody in this place has the right to order me around-- not you.
Brooke: I talked to Stephanie. She's convinced that you're innocent.
Pam: So now you want me to convince you?
Brooke: No. I want you to confess. That's all I want to hear. Tell me you did it.
Thomas: I'm guilty, okay? I'm an idiot. I'm a jerk. I know--
Taylor: Thomas, stop.
Thomas: Mom, no.
Thomas: I deserve this. What I did was selfish, and it was stupid, but I was only-- I was only trying to protect the family, Steffy. That's my job. Ever since Mom and Dad got divorced. But I couldn't protect you from Rick.
Steffy: I don't need your protection from Rick. I love him. And if you can't handle that--
Thomas: I can't! You know, I was there that night after the press conference. I followed you from the office. (Chuckles) And I kept praying you weren't going to Rickís, but you did. I was gonna barge in there, drag you out, but then I saw--
Steffy: Oh, my God. You were spying on us?
Thomas: You with him. I couldn't handle it. My baby sister. I was gonna beg you to stop seeing him. That's why I waited. Then you came out, and I couldn't even look at you because of him. So I grabbed the lighter fluid--
Ridge: All right, Thomas, that's enough. We all know what happened.
Steffy: I donít. You saw us, and you flipped out. You flipped out. What about the car? What about the car, Thomas? You blew up the car! Oh, don't do this. Don't console him, Mom.
Taylor: Steffy, we are all in a lot of pain.
Steffy: Rick could have been killed.
Ridge: Oh, Rick wasn't hurt. No one was hurt.
Steffy: So what? So what, that makes it all right?
Thomas: If I could undo it, I would.
Steffy: You canít. All we have to do is tell the truth. Rick needs to know.
Ridge: No, no, he doesnít.
Taylor: No, no.
Steffy: But he--he thinks his life is in danger.
Ridge: No, he doesnít. He's convinced that Pam did it, and she's in jail.
Steffy: Oh, okay, so that makes it all right? God, this is crazy. This is insane. Doesn't anyone realize this? My god. (Cell phone buzzes)
Steffy: It's Rick.
Ridge: Sweetie, don't answer that.
Rick: Hey, are you okay? You got off the phone kind of quick before.
Steffy: Yeah, my family--
Rick: Well, what's going on with you? You sound tense.
Steffy: Look, Rick, um, I have to talk to you. My parents don't want me to say anything, but I think you need to know.
Steffy: I said I'd stay with my folks, but there's really no reason to.
Ridge: Look, don't do this. Don't punish your brother for trying to help you out here.
Steffy: Oh, and Pam should be punished for doing nothing?
Taylor: Please, please give us more time to figure this out. Please, Steffy.
Rick: Steffy, you still there?
Steffy: (Sighs) Hey, I have to call you back.
Rick: You wanted to tell me something?
Steffy: Yes. I miss you, and I don't want you to worry. I'll be home soon, and nothing will ever keep us apart again.
Nick: You don't want to talk about my love life.
Jackie: No, you don't want to talk about your love life.
Nick: Maybe you're the one who doesn't have any love going on in your life.
Nick: Admit it, Mother. If you did, you wouldn't be interested in interfering in mine.
Jackie: I have a lot going on in my life, thank you.
Nick: Not outside this office, you donít.
Nick: It's okay to feel a little lonely.
Pam: I am not admitting anything to you.
Brooke: You've been arrested. The police have all the evidence they need. I couldn't sleep at night before they brought you here, knowing that there was somebody out there trying to kill my son.
Pam: But now you're not at all sure that they have the right person.
Brooke: Please, Pam-- (Sighs) you don't have to say anything. Just nod your head. This is not a trick. I'm not gonna say anything to anybody. I'm not gonna go to the D.A. I just need to know.
Pam: I didn't do it.
Brooke: Yes, you did.
Brooke: Just say it.
Pam: I canít. It's not true. Look, I hate your son. I think that he's an arrogant, spoiled little brat, but I didn't try to kill him. It wasn't me.
Brooke: It has to be.
Pam: Why? Because of what I did to your sister? Look, Brooke, I was sick then. I'm not now. I'm fine, and I'm not lying to you, and I didn't try to hurt your son. So if you really love him, you should try to get me out of here so that the police can concentrate on finding the real nutcase that's out there right now trying to kill your son.
Steffy: This is so incredibly wrong. You have to know that. Letting Pam go to prison, keeping Rick in the dark.
Thomas: Steffy's right. Rick has to be told. The police, too.
Ridge: No, wait.
Thomas: I did it, Dad.
Taylor: Because you were trying to scare Rick. You weren't trying to hurt anyone, Thomas.
Steffy: And you don't think this is hurting Aunt Pam? She's finally getting her act together, and now she's locked up for attempted murder. This is so wrong, and we need to tell Rick. We have to tell the truth.
Ridge: Oh, you think he's gonna forgive Thomas? Think he's gonna take pity on your brother? Rick has been after me for months. He's been trying to wreak havoc and destroy my family and my life in any way he can. What better way to do that than to send my son to prison?
Steffy: That's all in the past, Dad.
Ridge: Steffy, I wish I could believe that.
Steffy: Then I'll talk to him. I'll talk to him. He'll listen to me.
Ridge: No, it's too risky.
Taylor: It is, it is. How are we going to get Pam out of jail and not put your brother in jeopardy?
Ridge: Thomas is our son. He's our priority.
Thomas: What are you saying, Dad?
Ridge: I'm saying this family has lost far too much already. Your mother and I are not gonna lose you, too.
Jackie: I express an opinion about your love life, and you compare me to Stephanie?
Nick: Did I mention Stephanie?
Jackie: The loveless, meddling mother--that-- that's what you think I am.
Nick: No, it's not.
Jackie: Well, good. And I'm not lonely.
Nick: Okay. How long has it been since you've had a--gentleman friend?
Jackie: (Sighs) Oh, look. My work keeps me very busy.
Nick: My point exactly.
Jackie: There is more to life, all right, than candlelight and wine and romance. There's-- there's business and--and--and there's you and there's my grandson--
Nick: Yes, and I need you, and Jack needs you and this company needs you, but be honest, mother. There's a little something missing.
Nick: Do you really want to worry about me and Katie? Does that make you feel good?
Jackie: Oh, no, no, no. (Sighs) That's not the person that I am. I don't want everybody else to be miserable just because I am.
Nick: I think there's somebody out there.
Nick: There's somebody out there I know that can make you very happy and that can appreciate you for who you are.
Jackie: Yeah, well, there's no one in my life like that right now.
Nick: Well, there won't be unless you get out of this office.
Jackie: Well, I don't know. The delivery boy gave me the eye today.
Nick: Ha! It's a start.
Jackie: (Laughs) Oh, darling, thank you. Thank you for being so concerned about me.
Rick: Pam denied it?
Rick: I knew she would.
Brooke: I thought if I could look her in the eye, I'd be sure.
Rick: Mom, that's what Stephanie was doing here today, to rant and rave about Pamís innocence, and not because she was trying to convince you, but because she was trying to upset you, and it worked.
Brooke: I told Pam I wouldn't tell anybody, that I wasn't working for the D.A.--
Brooke: That I just needed to know for my own peace of mind.
Rick: To know what, Mom? That Pam is out of her mind? You know that. She tried to kill me twice.
Brooke: Yeah, well, if only she admitted it.
Rick: Would you if you were in her position?
Brooke: I know Stephanie, and I know when she's playing games.
Rick: Right, so you know that she would say anything to make you feel insecure, to put pressure on your marriage with Ridge, to stir the pot. If making you think that I'm still in danger works--
Brooke: Honey, what if you are still in danger? What if Pam didn't do this? And what if Stephanieís right, and the person that did try to kill you is still out there somewhere?
Steffy: Do you know how scared I've been? Thinking somebody was after Rick, wondering what they might do next. God, what I would do if they succeeded.
Thomas: I'm--I'm sorry. Look, I know that's what you don't want to hear, but I am so sorry.
Steffy: I know.
Taylor: I don't know what to do.
Ridge: There's gotta be some answer here, some way to keep our son safe. We are not gonna lose our son.
Nick: I know there's someone out there for you, Mother. There is someone who can make you happy, someone who can truly appreciate you for who you are.
Thomas: You gonna call him?
Thomas: And say what?
Steffy: I'm not sure. I know what I want to say.
Thomas: I can't stop you, Sis. Do what you have to do.
Rick: Mom, do not let Stephanie get to you, okay? Pam did it. The police can prove it. (Cell phone rings)
Rick: It's Steffy. I gotta take this. Hi.
Steffy: Sorry I keep hanging up on you.
Rick: No, it's okay. Are things crazy?
Steffy: Yeah, you could say that.
Rick: Well, change your mind. Tell me where you are, I'll come get you and bring you home.
Steffy: No, I-I'll be back before you know it.
Rick: That's not soon enough for me.
Steffy: Well, it may be sooner than you think.
Rick: Oh, so ĎDaddy dearestí is thinking the coast is clear?
Steffy: I don't know what he's thinking right now.
Rick: Well, obviously he's not in the room with you.
Steffy: No, um, he and my mom are talking in the bedroom. I'll see you in a few hours. And this is where you say, "the longest few hours of your life."
Rick: I can't wait.
Steffy: Me, too. I love you.
Rick: I love you, too.
Brooke: Is Steffy okay?
Rick: I think Ridge is giving her a hard time.
Brooke: He's just trying to make sure that his daughter is safe.
Rick: She is safe, and so am I. Mom, I don't care what Pam and Stephanie say.
Brooke: Honey, if there's a chance that Pam isn't guilty--
Rick: That is not why Ridge kidnapped his daughter. Mom, can't you see that? This is an intervention, okay? He's-- he's trying to deprogram Steffy.
Rick: Don't you think that Ridge would love to change her feelings for me?
Brooke: Ridge arranged for a squad car to watch the house. Steffy isn't the only member of the family that he's concerned about. Ridge does have some real concern, and you know what? I'm beginning to share that.
Taylor: What happened? What happened to everything we had? What happened to our family? We lost Phoebe. We're losing Steffy to someone who's not good for her, and Thomas--
Ridge: I certainly didn't see it coming.
Taylor: Neither did I. I just-- I probably didn't want to.
Ridge: Hey, I don't want you blaming yourself for this.
Taylor: No, I'm-- I'm-- I'm just going to think about whatever it is we have to do to protect Thomas.
Ridge: That's the most important thing right now.
Taylor: I just don't know why he didn't say anything to me. Why? Why didn't he just talk to me? Why did he keep all this anger penned up inside of him? He's so ashamed of me.
Ridge: I think feeling like he had to be the man of the house was just too much for him, too much pressure. But now, let's not dwell on what brought us to this point. Let's think about what we need to do from here on out.
Taylor: Oh, my god, Rick is gonna have a heyday with this.
Ridge: You know what? He can't know. We've got to keep it from him.
Taylor: But how are we gonna convince Steffy?
Ridge: Taylor, she loves her family. She'll hang onto that.
Taylor: Oh, when is this going to end?
Ridge: I don't know.
Taylor: (Sighs) I just-- I don't want to do anything to get ourselves in deeper, Ridge.
Ridge: Look. Our kids need us now. You and I have to be strong for them, okay?
Taylor: You're the only one who's able to comfort me since losing Phoebe.
Ridge: I'm here for you, Doc. You're not alone. We'll get through this together.
Taylor: (Sighs) Do you really think that we'll be able to save Thomas?
Ridge: We will. We have to. No matter what it takes.
