Ridge: Well, there you are.
Ridge: What do you say we sneak down to the steam room, get a bottle of wine, try and unwind a little bit? Might do you some good.
Brooke: (Sniffles) Rick's leaving.
Ridge: It had to be done, Logan. It's the best thing for everyone.
Brooke: No. (Sighs) Ridge, he's joining the military.
Ridge: He's what?
Brooke: He's going into the Army. He enlisted. And as noble as that may seem, I am terrified for him to be so far away going off into war. (Sighs) I just don't want to lose my son.
Marcus: Hey, I was looking for you earlier.
Steffy: Oh, I went to see Rick.
Marcus: I thought you were gonna put him behind you. Yeah, you two haven't, uh, you know, did the...
Steffy: What? No. No!
Marcus: Oh, good. Hey, you know you need to keep your distance from him, right?
Steffy: He had something important to tell me.
Marcus: Yeah, right. Like what? He can't live without you?
Steffy: He's joining the Army.
Rick: Thank you. (Clears throat) private Forrester reporting for duty, sir. I even brought my own clothing.
Man: We'll supply you with clothing.
Rick: I-I figured as much, but, uh, I work in the fashion industry. I figured I'd just make-- make my own, you know?
Man: Not anymore, son. I'm shipping you off to boot camp-- South Carolina, this afternoon.
Rick: South Carolina? East coast. That's great. So how would I get there? Like, a military transport or something like that?
Man: Civilian. Commercial.
Rick: Oh. Oh, civilian. Commercial. South Carolina. That's kind of a-- that's a long trip. Maybe I can, you-- (laughs) you know, use some of my miles and upgrade to business class or something like that. Or not. I don't have to do that at all. In fact-- (clears throat) thank you. Appreciate it.
Man: Give this to the doctor.
Rick: (Thinking) years of service, maybe going to war,
being shot at. Am I ready for this?
Man: Eric Forrester?
Rick: Yes, sir.
Man: Let's go.
Rick: Thank you, sir.
Nick: Okay. (Door opens)
Katie: Hey, babe.
Katie: Mom is here to watch Jack.
Nick: Oh, great. You can be our witness, too.
Katie: Oh, did I forget to mention that we're getting married today?
Katie: (Laughs) Uh-huh.
Nick: Yeah. Uh-huh.
Beth: (Laughs) Well--well, why the sudden change in plans?
Katie: We just thought, why wait?
Beth: Well, I am so pleased.
Beth: And when are the guests arriving?
Katie: Uh, they're not. You're it.
Beth: I'm it?
Katie: We figured we'd keep the ceremony small, intimate, laid back, you know, just in case there are some people out there who might have issues with Nick marrying me instead of say, uh, someone else.
Nick: Don't worry about my mother.
Katie: Who's worried? We are committed to each other. We're supposed to be a family-- you, me and Jack.
Jackie: We have to put a stop to this wedding.
Bridget: Drop it, Jackie. Stop wasting your time.
Jackie: No, you stop pretending like you don't give a damn, because you do. I saw the look in your eyes.
Bridget: Well, of course, I was just as shocked as you were to hear that those two were getting married today, but it doesn't change anything, and I don't want to get involved in this.
Jackie: Oh, for the love of God, will you tear down the barbed wire that you've put around your heart? You and Nicky belong together. You know you do. You should be raising Jack as a family, because he needs a mother like you. Bridget, it's not too late. It's never too late.
Ridge: Your privileged son, the whiny kid who's never taken orders from anyone is joining the military?
Brooke: (Sighs) I'm worried sick about it, Ridge. It's so sudden. It's such a drastic thing for him to do.
Ridge: That's exactly the reaction he's counting on here.
Ridge: Everybody's gonna feel sorry for poor little Ricky.
Brooke: Don't talk like that.
Ridge: It just seems like another one of his ploys, Logan, another con game. Not too long ago, he was on crutches. And, boy, did he play up the so-called paralysis for that one. But he was hospitalized, and the kid only has one kidney, so it's my guess the military's not even gonna take him. And Rick knows that.
Rick: So do you got all my medical records?
Man: I believe so.
Rick: Is there anything else you need to know?
Man: I'll have a few questions for you in just a moment.
Rick: So you ever been in combat?
Man: Yes, I have-- the first gulf war.
Rick: Must be pretty crazy, huh? Artillery going off all around you and being shot at?
Man: So tell me about this fall you took a few months back.
Rick: Oh, the fall. Yeah, I, um, I fell off-- backwards off of a building at work.
Jackie: You still adore Nicky. I know you do. You're just too stubborn to admit it, that's all. I mean, you can't possibly want him married to Katie. She'll betray him, just as she did you.
Bridget: Oh, Nick wasn't exactly innocent in this. He slept with Katie.
Jackie: Please, we both know men don't always think with this. And anyway, she was dying. Somehow in that lifeless state, she managed to muster up the energy to pounce on him. It--it was a just a gift of charity on Nick's behalf.
Bridget: Even if that were the case, it does not excuse what he did.
Jackie: He was terribly sorry. You know he was. And if you could've found it in your heart to forgive him, he would have stayed with you, Bridget. You could have made that marriage work, but Katie, well, she's just bamboozled him. And someone's got to open his eyes. He's got to see that, and that person has to be you.
Bridget: Jackie, what he did was completely wrong, and it hurt me so deeply. I will not go down that road again.
Jackie: I refuse to let my son ruin his life. So with or without your help, I'm gonna stop that wedding.
Bridget: You can't stop the wedding.
Jackie: Yes, because that girl pushed her way into your home, pushed her way into your life, and pushed Nick out of your life. And I don't care if I've got to yank her out of there by her stupid ponytail. She's not gonna have him! Are you coming, or not?
Nick: Wow, you look beautiful.
Katie: (Laughs) Thanks. Not bad for a last-minute wedding dress, huh?
Nick: Yeah. Here we go. I picked these from the garden.
Katie: (Giggles) They're--they're lovely.
Nick: (Laughs) well, I'm glad you like 'em... (clears throat) 'cause that's-- that's all I got, you know, is me and some flowers and a little bubbly for later.
Katie: Sounds perfect.
Nick: You sure this is what you want?
Katie: This wedding? Yes, of course. Why--why would you ask that?
Nick: Because it's your first time, and don't girls usually want their first wedding to be the big one and have those ugly bridesmaids' dresses?
Katie: Not this girl. I just want you and that little boy upstairs. I want to go to bed tonight as your wife, and I want to wake up next to my husband. I can't wait. I can't wait to marry you.
Man: I spoke with Dr. Simons, the doctor who treated you after the fall.
Rick: Yes, you said you were gonna contact him.
Man: That's quite a tumble you took.
Rick: Yes, sir, it was.
Man: No broken bones. No severe internal injuries.
Rick: No, I was very lucky.
Man: I'd say so. But you were paralyzed, however.
Rick: Yes. Yes, sir. I was paralyzed.
Man: And it proved to be temporary.
Man: Mr. Forrester, I can't, in good conscience, allow a man who was paralyzed three months ago to be shipped off to go to war.
Rick: Honestly? Seriously? I mean, I-- (scoffs) I've said my good-byes, okay? I'm--I'm--I'm really ready to go and do this.
Man: I admire your commitment, but given your recent injury and your overall medical history, military service for you at this time is just too risky.
Rick: Well, it's not exactly what I want to be hearing right now, but I do understand. I mean, if that's the way it's got to be, that's the way it's got to be.
Man: Down the line, if you want to try again--
Rick: I do. Absolutely, sir. I, um, I appreciate it. Thank you very much. (Sighs)
Beth: (Gasps) Oh, Katie, you look beautiful.
Beth: And Jack is fast asleep. (Laughs)
Katie: Well, the minister should be here soon. (Sighs)
Beth: Good. Listen, honey, I get the impression that Jackie isn't thrilled with the idea of you marrying Nick, but I want you to know that you have my full support.
Katie: Thank you. I know it's hard, because Bridget's family, too.
Beth: Well, love works in mysterious ways. (Laughs) so you embrace it and be grateful for it. I can see how happy Nick has made you. So when you embark on this journey, don't look back, hmm?
Katie: (Laughs) (Sniffles)
Katie: Thanks, Mom.
Brooke: I won't believe that Rick is deceiving us again.
Ridge: He's playing the sympathy game, Logan. Nobody plays it better than Rick.
Brooke: Is it really impossible for you to think that Rick could do something sincere?
Ridge: I think it's another one of his manipulations, you know? He's tugging at your and Dad's heartstrings again. And I also think that he's painting himself to be quite the hero in Steffy's eyes.
Brooke: Well, I think it took a lot of guts for him to take this step. He wants to serve his country. He wants to make us proud. And I am very proud of him. And if he does get accepted, I will miss my son.
Ridge: Well, I won't. Fortunately, he'll be too far away to cause any more damage.
Steffy: (Sighs) Wow, it-- it looks like you're almost ready to go.
Rick: Well, I would be more ready if you would make love to me.
Steffy: Wow. Okay, you are so bad. You just don't give up.
Rick: No, I never do.
Steffy: I'm gonna miss you. As crazy as things have been lately, it's--it's not gonna be the same without you.
Rick: I'm not going. The Army rejected me.
Steffy: (Scoffs) Wh-what?
Rick: They wouldn't-- they wouldn't accept me because of my recent paralysis. But look, I-- (sighs) I was sitting in the recruitment office, and I couldn't stop thinking about you. I was thinking about us and--and how much I was gonna miss you, and how proud I was gonna be to wear their uniform and to serve the country, and--
Steffy: Yeah. Yeah, serving your country is a very honorable thing. But maybe it's selfish, but I'm glad you're not going anywhere.
Rick: You are?
Steffy: It would have been way too long without you.
Nick: I think I have the most gorgeous bride.
Beth: Well, there is no doubt about it. You look stunning, sweetheart.
Katie: Thank you.
Beth: You've never looked more beautiful.
Katie: Thank you. I wonder where that minister is?
Nick: I'll get it. I'll get it. I'll get it.
Beth: Oh. (Laughs)
Nick: Come in. Come I-- Mother, what are you doing here?
Minister: She grabbed me outside. (Laughs)
Katie: What's going on?
Jackie: I'll tell you what's going on. You're gonna do the right thing once and for all. (Sighs)
Katie: I'm not quite sure what you're talking about. Bridget, what are you doing here?
Jackie: She's here to support me.
Bridget: Well, that's not ex--exactly true. I--
Minister: Well, I'm here to support a Dominick Marone and, uh, Katie Logan's marriage.
Jackie: I'll take that.
Nick: Mother, I don't know what's going on here, but I do hope you come to your senses before you do something stupid.
Jackie: How unbelievably interesting, because I was about to say the same thing to you. You're not gonna marry that woman. I won't allow it.
Brooke: So you're glad my son is being shipped off to a war zone?
Ridge: Oh, Logan.
Brooke: Ridge, you're my husband. I don't care what you think about my son. I need a little support from you right now. (Sighs)
Ridge: I'm sorry. You're right. I was being insensitive. I know you're worried about Rick.
Brooke: I just want to protect him, and I can't.
Ridge: Hey, maybe the military isn't such a bad idea. Discipline might do him good.
Brooke: So you really do believe that Rick's gonna go through with this?
Ridge: I hope it's true, Logan, but just to be safe, I'm gonna go see Steffy right now just in case it's another one of Rick's stunts.
Rick: I'm happy to hear that you still care.
Steffy: I shouldn't be encouraging it.
Rick: Yes, but you still care, right?
Steffy: (Sighs) I'm glad you're not going off to war, but it doesn't change a thing. We still can't be together. So just--just go.
Rick: No, I don't want to go. I can't stand being away from you. I know you feel the same.
Steffy: It doesn't matter. It doesn't change a thing. So just please, please, just stop.
Rick: No, I don-- I-I don't want to stop. I can't stop.
Rick: (Sighs) No, listen to me. Please, don't ask me to do that. Look, I don't-- I don't have a job here anymore. I don't know what my future holds. But I know that you and I can survive.
Steffy: How? How?
Rick: I'll--I'll build a mud hut for us in the middle of nowhere.
Steffy: (Chuckles) You--you can't do that.
Rick: Of course, I can.
Rick: Yeah, you can get, like, instructions on the internet. I've seen it.
Steffy: You're crazy, you know that?
Rick: Yes, I know. I'm crazy about you.
Steffy: (Sighs) Please stop. Stop it. Stop.
Rick: All right, listen, Steffy. I need you to know this is not about revenge. Forget about your father for a second. This is about you and me and us being happy together. I know that's what you want.
Steffy: But what I want... (sighs) I can't have.
Rick: Because of your dad? Because Ridge isn't gonna like it?
Steffy: No, he's not going to allow it.
Rick: Steffy, we are adults, okay? We should be free to do whatever we want. All you have to say is, "Daddy, I want to be with Rick."
Steffy: N-no, I-I can't do that.
Rick: Why? Why? Why?
Steffy: Wow, you're really not listening to me, are you?
Steffy: I won't hurt him like that.
Rick: Even if it means not having the life that you want? Come on, Steffy, live with me in our little mud hut together. (Laughs)
Steffy: That may sound romantic to you--
Rick: What? It doesn't sound romantic to you? Us, like, struggling to survive?
Steffy: Hey, you want to do something romantic? Make peace with my father. That's the only way this will ever work for me.
Rick: (Sighs) I'm sorry. But I don't believe that. You are gonna be mine with or without your father's blessing. (Laughs) Come here.
