Nick: You will not speak that way to my fiancée.
Jackie: Katie is the wrong choice for you, Nicky. I have thought that for a very long time, but I haven't said anything because of the baby, but I can't hold my tongue any longer. This woman is the most pathetic woman I have ever met.
Steffy: Wait. I didn't-- I didn't hear you right.
Rick: No, you heard me right.
Steffy: You're joining the Army?
Rick: Yeah, I was at the recruiter's office today. I signed the paperwork.
Steffy: When did you decide this?
Rick: (Chuckles) It doesn't matter. What matters is that nobody wants me around anymore, and quite frankly, I don't blame 'em.
Steffy: I want you here.
Rick: Well, you don't count.
Steffy: Your mom wants you around here.
Rick: She doesn't count either. She's my mother.
Steffy: This--this is just coming out of nowhere.
Rick: No, Steffy, I know. I know that this is happening extremely fast. I get that.
Steffy: Fast? This is--is crazy. I know serving in the military is honorable, but I just--
Rick: But what?
Steffy: You just went over there and enlisted?
Rick: Yes, I did. I had--I had to do something to prove to you that I deserve you.
Steffy: You did this for me?
Rick: Yeah. Yeah, it's part of it, yeah.
Steffy: Are you going to war?
Rick: Well, it depends on where they send me.
Steffy: What? I can't lose you. Going to war is scary. You have guns and bombs everywhere.
Rick: Steff, I-I can handle all that, okay? What I cannot handle is losing you.
Steffy: No, I'm selfish. I don't-- I don't want you to go.
Rick: This is gonna make me stronger, okay?
Steffy: Why didn't you tell me first?
Rick: What difference would that make? I can't be with you here anyway.
Steffy: I know. And what you're doing is heroic, but I don't want you to go. I am gonna die here without you.
Rick: No, you're not gonna die with--
Steffy: Yes, I--
Rick: And I'm not gonna die either, okay? It's not gonna happen.
Steffy: You can't promise that.
Rick: Steffy, it's-- it's a done deal, okay? I have to do this for me and for us, and thi--this is the first big step.
Steffy: "Big step"?
Steffy: It's like jumping off a cliff.
Steffy: There are so many other ways.
Rick: This--what other ways? Steffy, what can I possibly do to change your father's attitude about me? What?
Steffy: (Stomps feet) I don't know!
Rick: Exactly. That is my point. I have to do this, okay? I have to do this to change people's opinions about me. It's the only way that you and I can have a future together.
Clarke: Not the choice I would have made.
Clarke: But interesting. And, uh, this one could use a little polish.
Bridget: All right. So any suggestions?
Clarke: A Forrester asking for my advice? I think hell just froze over.
Bridget: (Sighs) Come on, Clark. I-I am not being facetious. I was really inspired by your last line, and I'm new at this. So any design tips you can give me at all would be appreciated.
Clarke: Right. You could design a collection of paisley muumuus, and Jackie wouldn't get rid of you. Look, kid, you've got talent. I'll give you that. But, uh, you and I both know that's not the only reason that Lady M. brought you into the fold.
Jackie: Someone has to stand up for Bridget. From the moment that she forced her out of this house--
Katie: Excuse me? I did what?
Nick: She left on her own, for her own reasons, Mother.
Jackie: Yes, and she's the reason! And now you want to marry her?
Nick: Mother, my god!
Jackie: I know what I sound like, all right? I sound like a meddling mother, and I hate it, but not as much as I hate what she did to Bridget and what she's going to do to you.
Nick: She wants to make me happy.
Jackie: Well, she won't. You just can't forgive yourself for what you did to Bridget, but marrying her-- it's not gonna heal that wound.
Nick: Mother, please, put--
Jackie: You reached out to a dying woman. You went to that island on a mission of mercy. Well, it wasn't mercy. It was seduction, pure and simple.
Bridget: Jackie hired me before she knew who I was.
Clarke: But finding out that the mystery designer was Nicky's ex, well, that sealed the deal.
Bridget: Nick and I are over, Clarke. I am making a new life for myself.
Clarke: Yes, a new life in an office where your old life is spending most of his day.
Bridget: Um, excuse me, but does this look like my old life to you?
Clarke: It beats hospital scrubs.
Bridget: Yeah, you bet it does. And as much as I love being a doctor, I love designing so much more. And I don't think I need to explain it to you, because your last collection was clearly created by a man who feels passionately about his work.
Clarke: But we are talking about you, and drawing isn't the only thing that's stirring your passions when you come into work in the morning.
Nick: I was not seduced.
Jackie: Yes, you were. Katie tempted you with the one thing that she knew you couldn't resist-- the chance to be a hero, to fulfill a dying woman's final wish.
Nick: I want you to go.
Jackie: It wasn't your fault. You don't have to marry her to make this right. There's no longer a baby to consider.
Jackie: She knew what you'd been going through, and she used it to her advantage.
Nick: I will drag you out if I have to.
Jackie: There's no need. I'm going, all right? I'm going. I have said what I needed to say. I just hope you heard me.
Nick: I'm sorry. (Sighs)
Nick: I'm sorry. I know you feel guilty about Bridget, and I do, too, but I feel so blessed to have you and Jack in my life, so blessed.
Katie: Not everything she said was wrong.
Nick: No, you-- you didn't force her out of here. You didn't.
Katie: Still, that's a lot of baggage to bring into a marriage.
Nick: Well, we're not starry-eyed kids anymore. We've been through a lot on our own and together. You just hang onto one thing-- I am completely committed to you.
Rick: It's the greatest commitment a person can make-- giving themselves to the service of their country. It takes a man of great character to do that. I want to be that man. You deserve that man.
Steffy: No. I'm so scared about this.
Rick: Yeah, my mom's frightened, too.
Steffy: She already knows?
Rick: Yeah. My dad, too.
Steffy: And they didn't try to talk you out of it?
Rick: Well, my mom did, yeah. I mean, my dad-- he understands. (Sighs) listen, my--my father-- my father forgave me for giving those designs to Nick, for betraying our company. But I told him about our relationship and what it was doing to your father, and my dad can't defend me anymore. I just let my animosity and my feelings toward ridge consume me. I was obsessed, and it just ruined my life. I've lost everything-- I lost my job, I lost the trust of my family, and I lost a shot at a future with you.
Steffy: How can we have a shot if you go away?
Rick: Well, it-- listen, we're gonna be apart for a while, okay? I'm gonna go to basic training, and then I have to serve for a few years.
Rick: Look, it's a done deal, okay, Steffy? I don't have a choice. I'm gonna go do this. It's important. But I need--I need something. I need to know that you're gonna wait for me.
Rick: (Sighs) Look, Steffy, I know that this is a risk. The thing is, I can deal with all the danger that, you know, we talk about. What I can't deal with, what I need to talk to you about is that when I'm gone, I know that there's gonna be lots of guys that are gonna be interested in you. And I'm gonna go crazy thinking that you could possibly wind up with somebody else while I'm gone.
Steffy: Do you want me to promise?
Rick: No. No. I-I-I want you-- I want you to believe in us. That's why I'm doing this. I hate being separated from you. I'm gonna miss you so much. Look, there's gonna be lots of long nights, and I'm gonna have to take a lot of cold showers. (Chuckles)
Rick: Listen, it's all gonna be worth it, knowing that I get to come home to you. That's what want. Please tell me that that's what you want, too.
Jackie: (Sighs) Bridget, would you tell me the truth? Would you take Nick back if you had the chance?
Bridget: (Sighs) I thought I made it perfectly clear when I accepted the job, I'm not interested in a future with Nick. I've really moved on.
Jackie: But you haven't forgotten. I mean, you couldn't have. The two of you were so in love.
Bridget: Nick is engaged to Katie.
Jackie: (Scoffs) Your aunt is an opportunist. If she hadn't lured Nick to that island--
Bridget: Oh, please, don't dredge that up.
Jackie: It's not your fault. It's not Nick's fault. I mean, she said that she hadn't seen it. He wasn't to know that she was gonna come on to him.
Bridget: Oh, please. You can't blame this all on Katie.
Jackie: And why not? Look how things have turned out-- rather well for her. She's living your life.
Bridget: Okay. This is exactly what I was afraid of. Working with Nick so closely, somebody was gonna get an idea. I just thought it would probably be Katie.
Jackie: You're right. She's worried, and she should be, because there is still a spark between--
Bridget: Don't make me regret taking this job. I love it here, but if I was hired to cause problems between Nick and Katie--
Jackie: Bridget, please. You can save him. Nick doesn't want this, but he doesn't think he has a choice. Give him one. Give him a way out. I promise you, he'd take it.
Katie: So did you know that your mother felt this way about me? Did she say something to you when she hired Bridget?
Nick: My mother hired Bridget because she needed a designer.
Katie: It's not that simple, and you know it.
Nick: Well, it is for me.
Katie: Well, it's not for Bridget. She's hurt and angry. I'm living the life she wanted.
Nick: Katie, you're not the villain in this.
Katie: Well, that's debatable, isn't it? Your mother's certainly not gonna keep her opinion to herself.
Nick: Well, then my mother can take her opinion and herself and find something else to do on our wedding day.
Katie: People will wonder where she is.
Nick: We can tell them she came down with a case of hoof-in-the-mouth, hmm?
Katie: (Giggles) You know, why do we have to tell them anything? We don't have to have a big wedding, do we?
Nick: W-well, yeah. That's your dream.
Katie: You're my dream, you and Jack.
Nick: What about your family?
Katie: I actually think they might be relieved. (Laughs)
Nick: (Laughs) You'd be okay with that?
Katie: Yes. Yes, I would. In fact, I think we should do it soon. I think the quicker, the better.
Nick: We've got the license. Let's do it today. What do you think of that?
Katie: I think that's perfect.
Katie: Well, maybe we can set a world record. We'll have a small ceremony, low-key, laid-back.
Nick: No tie?
Katie: What-- whatever you want, baby. If Jack wakes up, we'll include him in the ceremony. If he doesn't...
Nick: Then his old man will have a great story to tell him after his nap. We're allowed our fairy tale, no matter what anyone else thinks.
Steffy: I want a future with you, but this is just happening way too fast.
Rick: Well, the sooner I leave, the sooner I get to come back to you.
Steffy: And does it start tomorrow?
Rick: Yeah, induction.
Steffy: And then?
Rick: Basic training.
Steffy: And then what?
Rick: And then they ship me off somewhere. I don't know. Hey, listen, I need-- I need a vision of you to take with me, a vision that is preferably not obscured by all your clothes.
Steffy: You're bad. Bad.
Rick: (Laughs) I know. I'm serious. Hey, come here. I love you so much. I'm so in love with you. Let me prove that to you. Let me erase all of your doubts. Let me make love to you. Make love to me.
