Man: How's your general health?

Rick: It has never been better. So what's next?

Man: I'll turn these forms over for processing and make sure everything's in order. If it is--

Rick: Then I'm in after that?

Man: You're very eager.

Rick: I am. I'm very eager to serve, sir.

Man: Thank you, Mr. Forrester. Welcome to the United States Army.

Nick: God, a guy could get into Fort Knox easier than this joint.

Bridget: (Clears throat) Yeah, I see you've met "Ivana the terrible."

Nick: Is it true she used to work at a maximum-security prison?

Bridget: Uh-huh. That's exactly why Jackie hired her and put her in the reception-- to keep all of the visitors that are dying to come into Madame X's design sanctum unannounced-- she wanted to keep them away. You know what I mean?

Nick: I'm trying.

Bridget: You know, I was thinking, I would really love to lose the glasses and the wig. But I'm just afraid someone might waltz in here and know it's me, and then my family would find out, and I-I'm not sure that I'm ready for them to find out until I find out if I'm any good.

Nick: Everybody loves what they're seeing-- all your stuff. As much as you're needed here, you know, if it's gonna cause a problem with you and your family--

Bridget: Oh, I'm pretty sure my family will understand why I'm doing it this way, though I'm not sure your fiancée ever will.

Jackie: Oh, no, no. Don't disturb him. I'll just leave them here at the house. Okay. Bye. (Hangs up cell phone)

Katie: Are those for Nick?

Jackie: Yes. I thought I'd catch him before he left for the office, but his receptionist said he's already there.

Katie: Yes, he's been going in a lot earlier lately.

Jackie: Hmm. Well, he's very devoted to seeing us through this financial crisis.

Katie: How is that going, by the way?

Jackie: Oh, you mean now that Bridget's on board as our new mystery designer? Very well. Yes, Nick told me he let you in on the secret.

Katie: He must have also told you, then, that I went to see the mysterious Madame X for myself.

Jackie: Not to dissuade Bridget from pursuing her newfound passion, I hope.

Katie: Why would I do that?

Jackie: (Scoffs) Well, you did say that Nick is spending more and more time at work these days.

Katie: And you think that's because of Bridget. Is that what you're implying?

Steffy: (Sighs)

Rick: I'm gonna show my family. I'm gonna show you that I can change, and I will change.

They can take away my title. They can banish me from this company. They can even blame me for phoebe's death. I don't care. But they cannot take you away from me. I am not gonna let that happen.

Ridge: Hey.

Steffy: Hi.

Ridge: I know it's hard. Letting go always is, even when the person is absolutely not right for you.

Steffy: But he could change. He could change. What if he did change?

Ridge: He can't change, sweetheart. He's incapable of it. Look at everything he's done to you, your sister, our family.

Ridge: You can't trust Rick, even for a moment. You know that now, right? You can never trust Rick again, ever again.

Eric: I realize that letting Rick go had to be done. I mean, good lord, and after everything he's done? Leaking those designs, his relationship with Steffy and--and everyone he's hurt, especially Ridge. But in spite of all that, I just wish that--

Brooke: You still love him, and you wish that he could be working here with both of us.

Eric: I just hope that our son finds some way to turn his life around.

Rick: That's exactly what I'm doing, Dad, and it started today. I've joined the military.

Ridge: Because it's a wake-up call.

Steffy: Dad, just suppose-- just suppose Rick being asked to leave the company, maybe-- maybe it's a wake-up call.

Ridge: Oh, sweetheart, that would be very wishful thinking.

Steffy: But how do you know that? How do you-- how do you really know that?

Ridge: Because I see right through him. Like last night in Dad's office. He's going on and on about how ashamed of himself he is and how someday, he hopes that he'll be able to get back the respect of our family. Sweetie, it's all an act. He's still the same selfish jerk that was behind the wheel when your sister was taken from us, and that makes him beyond redemption, as far as I'm concerned, and no matter what he happens to come up with to try and fool us into thinking that he's actually trying to change.

Eric: What did you say?

Rick: I know that this is a shock, okay? But I need to do something meaningful to make up for the pain and the suffering that I've caused everybody.

Eric: And that's why you're enlisting?

Brooke: (Sighs)

Eric: To prove something to all of us and to yourself?

Rick: Yes, absolutely. I'm glad you understand.

Brooke: Well, I don't. This is coming out of nowhere. Now I know it's honorable to serve your country, but still--

Rick: Mom, the army is gonna straighten me out. It's gonna make me a man that you and Dad can be proud of, a man that I can be proud of. That's why this is so important to me. Please understand.

Nick: You really think Katie would have a problem with you working here?

Bridget: Mm, it's not exactly like we work together, per se. You know, you haven't exactly taken up designing, unless, of course, you've suddenly developed an interest, and, well, in that case, we could get you a wig and some glasses, and you could design and be "Mr. X"... although I bet your fiancée would probably have something to say about that, too.

Nick: You know, I do love when you're like this. No wonder I--

Bridget: What? Married me twice?

Nick: Yeah. You'd think I'd have gotten it right the second time, wouldn't you?

Bridget: Mm, sometimes, things just don't work out exactly like you planned. It certainly happened to me. But, uh, life does move on, and I'm embarking on this very exciting new career, and you are marrying Katie. I guess we both got exactly what we deserved, right?

Jackie: You're putting words into my mouth.

Katie: But that's what you meant-- that Nick is spending more time at the office because of Bridget. Come on, Jackie, I'm not an idiot. I know that he cared for her. They cared for each other.

Jackie: "Cared"? They were deliriously in love.

Katie: Before I ruined everything, you mean.

Jackie: Ooh, someone's feeling a pang of guilt.

Katie: Of course I'm feeling a little guilty.

Jackie: For sleeping with her husband?

Katie: Well, he wasn't her husband yet.

Jackie: That is a very flimsy excuse.

Katie: I'm not trying to excuse anything. I'm just trying to--

Jackie: Justify living in her home, sleeping in her bed, stealing her husband, commandeering her life?

Katie: Wow, you've been waiting to say that for a long time.

Jackie: That was merely a question. But if you really want the truth, I'll give it to you. I have one son who I think is a prince amongst men, and for him to be engaged to you? I don't like what you've done to his life. I don't like what you've done to Bridget's life, not one little bit.

Marcus: I mean, who could have seen it coming, right? I mean, Rick suddenly leaving Forrester all of a sudden? I mean, not that I'm torn up about it at all, especially since he's the one that shipped me off to Paris so he could hit on you...

Steffy: (Sniffles)

Marcus: Which now that I think about it, our relationship-- it was never the same after that. You turned down my proposal, practically ended things overnight. I even wondered if there was another guy. I even asked you. (Marker scribbling)

Marcus: It--

Marcus: It was Rick, wasn't it? He made a hit on you, and he used you--

Steffy: (Slaps box) That's not what happened.

Marcus: Well, obviously, something did happen, or you never would have broken up with me.

Steffy: I never would have thought in a million years that... (sighs) but it's over now. It's over. I can't be with a man who's trouble for my family. They're already going through so much pain. (Sighs)

Marcus: Listen to me, Stef, okay? The guy is a user. He's no good. You have to stay away from him. Now I'm here for you, like I always said I was, so if you need me, you just say the word. But you gotta stay away from Rick...

Steffy: (Sighs)

Marcus: No matter how hard he tries to suck you in, I won't let him.

Rick: So I have your blessing?

Eric: You're sure about this?

Rick: Yes, I'm positive. It's--it's what I need to do.

Eric: To enlist, and to do something noble for your country?

Rick: Absolutely. And to get my act together in the process. Look, I know that there are risks, okay?

Brooke: Risks? Rick, you could be injured or, God forbid--

Rick: Mom, what? Stop. Don't say that, okay? That's not gonna happen.

Brooke: Honey, you don't know that.

Rick: Well, it's life, Mom. I could walk out of this building and cross the street and get hit by a car, okay? There are no guarantees in life. Hey. I love you both very much, and I'm gonna miss you very much.

Brooke: (Sobs)

Jackie: It's bad enough that you've stolen Bridget's life, but it is the pretense. That is what I can't abide.

Katie: What pretense?

Jackie: The way that you pretend to be so remorseful for what you've done to your niece. You saw a chance to ensnare my son, and, boy, you went for it, his marriage to Bridget be damned. Well, now you're the one with the ring, and I've tried to accept that for Nick's sake. But you make no mistake-- no mistake. I will do anything, absolutely anything to see my son and Bridget reunited and you sent packing to hell, if that's where you want to go, just as long as it is far, far away from Nicky.

Nick: Marrying Katie is what I "deserve"? I don't think I know how to take that.

Bridget: Well, why don't you just take it in the spirit it was offered?

Nick: I'm not quite sure what spirit that was.

Bridget: Oh, come on, Nick. You know me, ol' bighearted Bridget. I only want the best for everybody.

Nick: Including your ex-husband?

Bridget: And his struggling design business, which, according to Jackie, is really turning around because of the new line.

Nick: And all the buzz about the new mystery designer.

Bridget: Oh, right. (Sighs) I hope I can live up to the hype.

Nick: You already have. (Cell phone vibrates) (vibrates) (vibrates) (vibrates)

Steffy: Rick, you've gotta stop calling me.

Rick: Listen, can you come to the beach house? I really need to see you.

Steffy: I'm at work.

Rick: It's important. Look, I wouldn't be asking you this if it wasn't important. Listen, my life is headed in a completely different direction, and I need to see you before that happens. Steffy, hurry. I'll be waiting for you. And, Steffy?

Steffy: Yeah?

Rick: I love you. .

Eric: Brooke? I see what you're doing. I'm not gonna let you do that. You can't put all this on yourself.

Brooke: (Scoffs) How could I not, Eric? If I hadn't asked Rick to leave the company, he wouldn't have enlisted.

Eric: Hey, look...

Brooke: (Sighs)

Eric: I know this is pretty hard to believe, but our son is a fully grown man now, and it was his decision, and he made it. As his parents, he's asking us to support him.

Brooke: But at what cost? My God, Eric, he could end up paying the ultimate price.

Eric: Yeah.

Brooke: I just pray this is the right decision for everybody.

Rick: Hi. I'm so glad you came.

Steffy: You made it sound important.

Rick: Well, it is. It is very important, actually. Hi. (Sighs) Okay, what's wrong?

Steffy: We can't keep doing this. We already know the reasons why.

Rick: Look, I agree with you, okay? That's why asked you here. I-I'm changing. I'm making myself change.

Steffy: I know. You told me that last night. You're turning your life around. That's--

Rick: Right, but my point is it's happening. I'm making it happen.

Steffy: All right. And that's why you asked me here, right? You're working at Jackie M. Designs. That's--that's the plan.

Rick: No, I'm--I'm not work-- (sighs) no, the--the plan was that you would come and work with me there, and I don't know. That could happen someday.

Steffy: No, it's-- it's--it's impossible. It's--

Rick: No, it's not. Listen to me, okay? Nothing is impossible if you want it badly enough and if you make sacrifices, and I am. Hey, listen to me. I have put you in between your father and me for far too long, and it's put you through hell. The old Rick, the one that your father despises, he's gonna go away for a while, and a new Rick is gonna come back, one that your father can respect, one that you can be proud of.

Steffy: I don't-- I don't understand.

Rick: Okay, well, sit down with me. I'll explain it to you. Come on.

Steffy: No, no, this is--

Rick: Steffy!

Steffy: No. This is crazy. I'm letting myself get caught up in you again. You're saying things that we already know the answers to. You're gonna hurt my family, intentionally or not.

Rick: No, I'm not. That's what I'm trying to tell you. I am putting my life on the line to change. I have enlisted. I'm joining the Army.

Bridget: (Foreign accent) Nick is on his way home to pick up the papers, Mr. Lowery. He will be back with them shortly. Well, yes, of course. He's so sorry about the confusion. Thank you, mister.

Katie: How dare you talk to me like that? I'm engaged to your son, and we are going to get married.

Jackie: Not if I have anything to say about it.

Katie: You don't.

Jackie: (Chuckles) Never underestimate the sway that I have with my son, darling.

Katie: I'm not easily intimidated.

Jackie: I loathe people who pretend to be something that they're not, and that is you to a tee. In fact, I would even go so far as to call you a black widow.

Katie: (Laughs) Oh, my God.

Jackie: Well, it's proved, isn't it? By the carnage that you've ft in your wake ever since you arrived in L.A. I mean, first, your brother kills himself because of you, right?

Katie: Shut up.

Jackie: And then you take his heart, only to turn around and step right into your niece's home, into her bed after she saved your life.

Katie: I said, "Shut up!"

Jackie: Bridget is the only reason that you are even alive! And this is how you repay her? This is how you thank her? In the worst way imaginable-- betrayal. You are a disgrace, Katie Logan, a disgrace to your family, to your niece, to your dead brother's memory.

Katie: Shut up!

Jackie: And I'll be damned if I'm gonna have you as a daughter-in-law.

Nick: Mother, that's enough!
