Brooke: (Whispers) No. (Normal voice) You have to know that this was a horrible accident.
Stephanie: Don't let your daughter's death be in vain, Ridge.
Bridget: I am just so sorry, Rick.
Rick: I tried so hard to keep control of the car, Bridget. But I couldn't. You know, with Phoebe, she--she was all over me. She was so angry. She was grabbing the wheel, and her foot got wedged under the accelerator. She was scratching my face.
Bridget: You do know there's nothing you could have done.
Rick: Taylor doesn't see it that way.
Bridget: W-well, you've got to stop blaming yourself. There's--there's-- this is just no one's fault. What, is she blaming you?
Rick: No, I... (sighs) she blames herself. I just got back from seeing Taylor at her house, and... she wanted to know what happened in the car.
Bridget: And you told her how upset Phoebe was?
Rick: Look, Taylor blames herself for Phoebe's death. She blames herself for Phoebe's anger at the time and... all because she got involved with her daughter's first love.
Phoebe: Mom, are you up here?
Phoebe: Oh, my God. What are you doing?
Steffy: Mom? I brought you some tea.
Taylor: (Sniffles) I miss her so much.
Steffy: (Sobbing) I miss her, too... so much. (Sniffles)
Taylor: It's my fault. It is my fault.
Steffy: No, no, no. Mom, don't say that.
Taylor: It is. It is.
Steffy: Mom, don't say that!
Taylor: If I hadn't gotten involved with Rick in the first place-- he was her boyfriend.
Steffy: Mom, stop! Stop!
Steffy: You didn't know. They were over. Phoebe and Rick were over.
Taylor: (Sniffles) that's no excuse.
Steffy: (Sighs) Mom, stop it. (Sighs) you're human. It happened.
Taylor: I'm human? No, I'm the psychiatrist. (Laughs) Please.
Steffy: Mom, stop. Stop.
Steffy: Mom. God, there is... there are things we all wish we'd done differently.
Taylor: (Whispers) yeah.
Steffy: But there's only one person...
Steffy: Who's to blame for this, and that's Rick.
Stephanie: Your daughter is dead because of Rick.
Brooke: Stop saying that!
Stephanie: He's been on this destructive path for months. He's--he's angry with you. He's tried to take everything he can away from you, even--even your relationship with his mother, your position at the company, and now-- now he's taken your child.
Ridge: Logan, why didn't you tell me what Rick has been up to here? Editing the podcast, trying to kiss Steffy!
Brooke: Ridge, I was going to tell you. I was about to tell you everything.
Ridge: Your son has done some horrible things, Logan-- unforgivable things.
Brooke: Yes, I agree. He's made some terrible mistakes, but he didn't mean to hurt Phoebe. He loves her, Ridge, and he's as heartbroken about all of this as we all are. Phoebe was just upset. (Sighs) This involvement that... (sighs) Rick had with Taylor-- she--she just couldn't accept it. She--
Stephanie: Wait a minute. You're not trying to put the blame on Taylor for this.
Brooke: God, no. Taylor is not to blame, and neither is Rick.
Stephanie: He is the only one to blame.
Brooke: He has to live with this for the rest of his life. Don't you think that's punishment enough?
Stephanie: Oh, I see. Now we're supposed to feel sorry for Rick? What about the rest of us? Because of what he's done, you don't think we have to deal with this hell for the rest of our lives?
(Cell phone rings) (Rings)
Ridge: Yes, sweetheart?
Steffy: Dad? It's Mom. She needs you.
Ridge: I'll be right there.
Stephanie: Shame on you, trying to put the blame on Taylor.
Brooke: I'm not blaming anybody, and neither should you.
Stephanie: You know... (laughs) the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, does it? Making a sexual advance on Steffy in order to provoke Ridge-- that's something right out of your book.
Brooke: That's not what caused the accident, Stephanie.
Stephanie: That's exactly what killed Phoebe. And that you could stand there and defend his actions to a man who's just lost his daughter.
Brooke: I hate what this is doing to Ridge, but Rick is innocent.
Stephanie: Innocent? No. Responsible, maybe not. You know, if you had been a better mother to him while he was growing up, maybe none of this would have happened. (Sighs)
Brooke: Since when did you become the resident moral compass, Stephanie? You've done unspeakable things in the name of loyalty for your children. I will not allow you to call Rick a criminal, and I will not allow you to convince everybody that Rick is guilty of a crime! I won't let you do it.
Steffy: Mom, you gotta let go of this guilt. Phoebe wouldn't want you to feel this way.
Taylor: I failed her, Steffy. I failed her.
Steffy: No, you didn't! You are an incredible mom. She loves you, and she wouldn't want you to blame yourself.
Taylor: (Sniffles) (Sobbing) I just pray to God she's happy now.
Steffy: She is, Mom. Mom, she is!
Steffy: She is. Just it's not your fault. It's not your fault. Dad. Dad, I'm so glad you're here.
Ridge: I'm glad you called me, sweetheart. Maybe you should let your mother and I have a little time alone.
Steffy: Mom, if you need me, I'll be outside, okay? Okay. I love you.
Taylor: I love you, too.
Steffy: I love you.
Ridge: How are you, uh... coping?
Taylor: I'm not. I just keep... trying to figure out why this happened. (Sobs) I cannot believe this has happened to my baby. I can't find a reason. It doesn't make any sense.
Ridge: Tragedy like this never makes sense, Taylor.
Taylor: (Sniffles) And Rick came by a little bit earlier, and I asked him what happened in the car. And he told me that Phoebe was upset. She was angry and upset.
Ridge: This is not her fault.
Ridge: I'm not gonna let that bastard blame our own daughter for their--her own death...
Taylor: No, she was angry because of me!
Ridge: She was angry at Rick because of Rick, not you, Taylor.
Taylor: Oh, please, Ridge. I might as well have been the one driving the car! And what would be new? (Sobbing)
Ridge: Okay, I don't like where you're going with all of this now.
Taylor: It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter anyway who's to blame. It doesn't matter, because she's gone. She's dead. She's not coming back. There's nothing that can fix it! (Scoffs) (Panting) (Sniffles) (Panting) (Sniffles)
Bridget: You have got to let go of this guilt.
Rick: Can't do that.
Bridget: It's a worthless emotion, and it won't bring Phoebe back.
Rick: I took Phoebe away from her--her friends and her family and everybody who loved her. What kind of a person does that?
Bridget: Someone who was involved in a horrible accident. It's painful, and it's awful, but it happens, and you've got to stop beating yourself up about it. You're not a bad person.
Rick: Maybe not, no... but I am a person who has done some bad things.
Bridget: We all have.
Rick: (Sighs) when I lost Taylor, Bridget, I lost myself. I don't even recognize my--myself during that time. I did some things that I'm ashamed of... but no more. I'm gonna be someone that you can proud of again. I'm gonna do everything in my power to earn back the love and the respect of my family. (Inhales deeply) (Sighs)
Brooke: You are the matriarch of this family. Instead of stirring up trouble, you should try to help everybody heal.
Stephanie: That healing process will begin when Phoebe gets the justice that she deserves.
Brooke: (Sighs) Everybody is devastated, Stephanie, including Rick.
Stephanie: Rick is devastated?
Stephanie: Oh, I don't think so. I'll tell you who's devastated-- her mother and father, her brother and sister. That's who's devastated. Now you want to do the right thing by Ridge? You turn your son in to the police.
Woman: Dr. Forrester, are you related to the deceased?
Bridget: Yes. Um... is her body still here?
Woman: Well, it is, but she's about to be released to the funeral home.
Bridget: Please, I need to see her.
Ridge: You're right, Doc. Nothing is gonna fix it.
Ridge: I'm sorry.
Ridge: I just... I made mistakes.
Ridge: Getting our kids' hope up about us getting back together.
Ridge: Phoebe always wanted that. Why would we plan such a party?
Ridge: The kids had something very different in mind...
Ridge: But did I listen? No.
Taylor: Ridge, don't. Don't do this.
Ridge: Plan a big party, have everybody show up, you know? Shove it down their throats. I just wanted everybody to be so excited for Brooke and me that I was just determined... Phoebe would still be alive. (Sighs)
Ridge: The two of you would be sitting in front of that fireplace having your talk, resolving your differences. (Inhales deeply) and she certainly wouldn't have been thrown out of a damn car, and she certainly wouldn't have died in my arms. If only I had done it differently.
Taylor: Stop tearing yourself apart. Stop it, Ridge. It doesn't bring her back. (Sobbing) she isn't coming back. We're never seeing her again. (Crying)
Woman: I'll give you a moment alone.
Bridget: Thank you.
Bridget: (Crying) (Whispering) Oh, my God.
Bridget: (Sniffles) Oh, God, Phoebe. (Sobs)
Bridget: (Sniffles) Rick never meant for this to happen, sweetheart. (Sniffles) No one meant for this to happen to you.
Ridge: I don't blame you for our daughter's death, Taylor. What happened to Phoebe was a horrible tragedy, but it had nothing to do with anything you did.
Taylor: I wish I could believe that.
Ridge: It's true. She... depended on you. She counted on you. (Sighs) do you remember when she lost her wallet-- when it was stolen on the road when she was on tour, and what did she do?
Ridge: She came to her mom, didn't she? She called her mom.
Taylor: Stolen? It was more like she lost it for the ten-millionth time.
Ridge: But you knew exactly how to deal with her, and you knew what to say to her to get her to calm down to handle it.
Ridge: She always listened to you. She idolized you.
Taylor: I didn't get a chance to see her grow up. I didn't get to see her be everything that she could be.
Ridge: She loved you with all of her heart.
Ridge: And I know you loved her with every ounce of your being, too.
Ridge: It's true.
Ridge: Didn't she hug you and tell you how much she loved you just before she, uh...
Taylor: Yeah, she did. That's that last thing she did. She was standing in the doorway, and... she said, "Bye, Mom." (Whispering) "I love you." (Sobs) (Sighs)
Ridge: Doc, you have to hold onto that. Phoebe would not want you to blame yourself.
Taylor: Do you really think she was happy? Did we give her a good life?
Ridge: I think she was a very happy girl. She was living her dream-- traveling the world, singing to thousands of people.
Taylor: (Sighs) She had the most beautiful voice. It seems like yesterday I could hear her singing up in the tub when she was 3. (Sniffles)
Ridge: Let's hang on to that, okay?
Ridge: Let's carry that with us in our hearts.
Taylor: (Sniffles) (Sighs)
Ridge: Let's hold onto it in our hearts.
Ridge: That's where she is now. (Sighs)
Stephanie: You really want to help Ridge and his family? Then you convince Rick to turn himself in to the police and accept the responsibility of what he's done.
Brooke: No. My son is not going to jail.
Brooke: It's not going to happen unless somebody pursues it. Ridge isn't going to, and I pray to God Taylor won't either.
Stephanie: Her death is the direct result of his reckless and criminal behavior.
Stephanie: You know, it doesn't have to be just a mother and father to press charges. She's part of my family, too.
Brooke: (Sighs) What are you gonna do, Stephanie? Contact Lt. Baker yourself?
Stephanie: I don't want to see his face again. He's out of Forrester Creations. I want his resignation effective immediately. I don't want him anywhere near tom or Steffy or Taylor or Ridge, and I don't want him at the funeral tomorrow. If you have any decency-- any decency left in your body-- you'll keep him away.
Brooke: He's going to want to pay his respects.
Stephanie: Pay his respects for a girl that he just killed? I'm telling you, keep him away, or charges will be pressed, and he'll end up in jail.
Brooke: You're making this family tragedy into a vendetta against Rick and me. Does Eric know this? How do you think he's going to react when he realizes what you're doing?
Stephanie: Listen to me. If he has the audacity to show up at that funeral tomorrow, I will not be responsible for what I do. You want to protect your son? You keep him the hell away from that funeral, or there'll be consequences, believe me.
