Brooke: (Moaning) Does that answer your question about whether I'm awake or not?
Ridge: Oh, yeah. I'm very glad I asked.
Brooke: Mm. You seem to be glad about a lot of things these days.
Ridge: All is right in my world, Logan. You see, the woman of my dreams is about to become my wife... forever, this time.
Brooke: I heard from a very reliable source that she can't wait to become your wife. (Giggles)
Ridge: Mm. Hey, you. Where--where you goin'? Where are you goin'? You come back here.
Brooke: Well, we're gonna have to pick this up later, because you and I have a very, very busy day.
Ridge: Just can't get enough. Cannot get enough.
Ridge: Everything okay?
Brooke: Yeah. I just can't stop thinking about Bridget. She deserves to be as happy as we are.
Ridge: I'll tell you, the day I found out that she was gonna marry that weasel again, I--
Brooke: There was nothing we could do to change her mind. She was determined that things were going to be different this time.
Ridge: Problem is she matured after she married once, but Marone didn't. It's too bad everybody knew it but her.
Brooke: She's gonna be moving out today. Do you think you could stop over at Nick's and give her a hand?
Ridge: Yeah, I'd be happy to, more than happy to, deliriously happy to.
Brooke: Thank you. She's gonna need some moral support, and since my day's already spoken for... (knock on door)
Brooke: Are those my little orchard hands?
R.J.: It's us.
Ridge: Hey, there.
Hope: Can we go soon? I don't want to miss the apple festival.
Brooke: Oh, sure, honey. Let me jump in the shower, and we'll be on the road, okay?
Ridge: Well, you guys are just itchin' to get up to Big Bear, aren't you?
R.J.: Big Bear--yeah!
Ridge: You know what comes before Big Bear, though, the apple fest?
Hope: Hurry up, Mommy.
Ridge: The tickle fest, the tickle fest.
Ridge: Yeah, you'd better-- Mommy'd better hurry up.
Taylor: Does coffee always taste this good in the morning?
Rick: It's the mountain air. It just makes everything taste better.
Taylor: Then again, it could be getting a good night's sleep last night.
Rick: That's right. You went to bed like a champion last night, big guy. Good job.
Taylor: Mm-hmm. Thank you so much for bringing us up here.
Rick: You're welcome.
Taylor: I think it's good for us. I think it's good for us to get away and have a change of scenery, sleep someplace else.
Rick: No, I agree. I-I thought we could all use a little mini vacation.
Taylor: Well, look at Jack. He's so much calmer. He's doing great. I think you're right. I think it was a phase. I mean, he's--he's happy. He hasn't fussed once since we left the house.
Rick: You think that he's just gonna grow out of this, don't you?
Taylor: Well, I'm not giving up.
Rick: I know you're not giving up. I, um, look, I want you to know that I recognize the fact that you have been, um, doing everything in your power to nurture Jack and--and--and love him. Um, look, it's been-- it's been quite the battle over the past year, and you've given it your all, and I respect that.
Taylor: Well, Jack's my son. There isn't anything I wouldn't do for my own children.
Rick: Right, and it's because there's nothing you wouldn't do for one of your children that I'm even remotely entertaining these thoughts that I've been having.
Taylor: Thoughts, about what?
Rick: Look, again, you've been working very hard to--to make Jack very happy, and, look, with all due respect, it's just not working. I'm sorry, but it's not working, and it--it's--it's a problem, Taylor, and--and it's-- it's breaking our hearts. It's--it's beginning to affect our relationship, and, look, I'm sorry to say, but I just--I never thought it was gonna be possible for you to raise Brooke's biological son.
Taylor: (Scoffs) I-I don't want to talk about this.
Rick: No, no, Taylor, look, look, look, we have to talk about this, okay? It's--it's very important. I'm gonna ask you a question, okay? Do you think that-- do you believe that it's possible that you will never be able to truly bond with Jack because of my mom, because of the history with my mom, that you will never be able to give Jack what he truly needs because of her?
Nick: Bridget, I'm gonna ask you not to do this.
Bridget: Nick... (sighs) I'm always gonna love you. You know that. And I know that you'll always love me in your-- your own justified way. But as hard as it is, we're not meant to be. I've accepted that, and you should, too.
Nick: Bridget, I-I just can't do this. I just cannot accept that breaking up is the only answer for us. Please listen to me, just for a minute, please? I-I want this marriage. I am willing to fight for it. I'll do whatever I can. I know that I've hurt you in the past, and I've hurt you now, but I want to help you through this. I want to help you heal, please.
Bridget: Well, you can't, Nick. I'm the only one that can do that. Besides, it's not all your fault. I don't know what I was thinking that we should try and resurrect things.
Bridget: You know, there wa-- there was this little voice inside of me, as much as I fought it-- I just didn't want to listen to it. I-I should have listened to it, but I didn't, and that was my mistake. If we were really meant to be together, then we--we probably would have never separated the first time around. I just couldn't... (sighs) I really thought that we could make it this time.
Nick: And I still think we can.
Bridget: No, Nick, we can't. I'm not gonna settle for a marriage like this. I don't want a marriage like this. I'm in a different place now. I'm stronger, and I know what I deserve, and I'm going to find that kind of happiness. It just won't be with you.
Bridget: I already talked to a divorce lawyer about getting a quick divorce, and, uh, I think we should just put this behind us as quickly as we possibly can. If you're really sincere about helping me heal, you're not gonna stand in the way.
Nick: (Sighs) I never meant to hurt you more than I already have.
Nick: Excuse me.
Ridge: Here to help Bridget.
Bridget: I guess Mom told you that today was the day.
Ridge: Yeah. She took the kids up to Big Bear to the apple festival. (Sighs) Asked me to come over and give you a hand.
Bridget: Thanks. That's really sweet of you. (Sighs)
Ridge: Oh, I'm more than happy to help you get out of here.
Rick: Mommy and I have to-- to talk for a little bit, okay? So I'm just gonna put you in here. (Grunts) (whistles) (makes "splat" sound) You gonna be okay for a second? Here you go. Okay.
Rick: (Clears throat) Taylor, I want you to know that I wouldn't even be suggesting this if I didn't love you as much as I do, if I didn't love Jack as much as I do. But we have a problem here. Look at jack in there. He's--he's so peaceful. He's so happy. When was the last time that happened?
Rick: Look, D.N.A... (sighs) it doesn't necessarily make a family, but maybe in this case it does. Maybe Jack needs my mother and his siblings, Hope and R.J.
Taylor: Do you think Brooke's a better mother than I am?
Rick: (Sighs) That's not what I'm saying. I'm--the point is there's a reason why Jack is not bonding with you. There's a reason why he is one way with you and another way with my mom. Look... (sighs) Taylor, you are attempting to raise your rival's son, okay? Jack, he--he senses that. He feels that. You know what? Instinctively, he knows that, and you do, too. I have an idea. We'll call it, um, we'll call it an experiment, okay? My mom and Hope and R.J. are on their way up here as we speak.
Taylor: Right now?
Rick: Yeah, for the apple festival. They love it. They come every year.
Taylor: So that's why we're really here. They were already coming, and you didn't warn me?
Rick: D--just hear-- bear with me, okay? Hear me out. They're gonna be here, and Mom and hope and R.J. Will spend time with Jack, and we will watch. We'll observe, and--and we'll see how jack gets along, okay?
Taylor: (Sighs) (sighs)
Nick: I can help Bridget.
Ridge: Your kind of help she doesn't really need.
Bridget: Guys, please.
Ridge: If I had known the way you were treating her already...
Bridget: Ridge, I really don't want you guys fighting because of me. Just--
Ridge: You just need somebody on your side, kiddo, someone you can trust. Your soon-to-be ex here doesn't really know the meaning of that word. The way you used her, hurt her again... (sighs)
Taylor: An experiment? (Scoffs)
Rick: Yes, an experiment.
Taylor: Rick, this is my son. We're not talking about a science project.
Rick: No, I know that, but it's your son who hasn't been happy with you since-- since I can remember, Taylor, despite what you've been trying to do for him.
Taylor: Well, some children are harder than others.
Rick: Come on. Come on, seriously? You have successfully raised three children on your own, Taylor, and you said it yourself. This situation's-- it's entirely more difficult.
Taylor: That's true, yes. It's-- it's very different, but I'm trying not to give in to it. I want to believe that somehow I can get passed it.
Rick: I know you do. I know you do, but at what--at what cost? You are becoming increasingly closer to the end of your rope here. Think about the childhoods of your--of your--of your kids. They had their mother. They had their siblings. They were happy. They had family. Family is vital to a child. It makes all the difference in the world.
Taylor: And now you're telling me that it's because he's an only child?
Rick: No, no, no, no, no. Listen, look at me. That's not what I'm saying. You're not hearing me.
Rick: What I'm saying is that this could be an amazing opportunity for Jack.
Taylor: (Sighs) Yeah, because your mother is al--already on her way here with her kids.
Taylor: So--so when did you come up with this experiment? Did--did it just pop into your head?
Taylor: Or it was something you came up with ahead of time?
Rick: No, you know what? I came up with it the other night, when I was lying in bed by myself, and you were up trying to put Jack to sleep till the wee hours of the morning to no avail.
Taylor: I'm sorry. I-I don't-- I don't know why. I just don't-- I don't know why. I don't know what I am doing wrong.
Rick: You're not doing anything wrong, Taylor. I just--I don't-- I don't know what more you can possibly do.
Taylor: I don't either. I'm doing everything. I'm doing everything I possibly can. I've tried. I'm so tired of trying, and the more I try, the harder it is. It just gets worse.
Rick: I know. Okay, list to me. Like I said before...
Rick: Jack, he just-- he's--he's--he's sensing that there's--there's something that's not right, okay? He's--instinctively, he knows there's something wrong.
Rick: Like he feels that he's not where he supposed to be.
Taylor: That's because it's my fault. I'm blaming myself, because I'm failing.
Rick: No, no, no, no, no. You can't--will you stop that? Seriously, Taylor. Nobody is questioning your ability to be a successful mother. I think you've proven that before three times over.
Rick: This is important, okay? Listen, I'm not blaming you here, all right? This is not about blame.
Rick: Nobody is to blame. But I am asking you something. I'm asking you to prove what an exceptional mother you are, because only the kind of exceptional mother that would put the needs and happiness of her child before her own could even consider...
Rick: Consider... letting go and letting somebody else raise their child.
Taylor: Someone like Brooke? Do you hear what you just said? This woman who has hurt me over and over-- like I would let that woman raise my child?
Brooke: Apples, right? What are you two doing here?
Rick: Hey, Mom. Hi, kids.
Hope: Hi, Rick.
R.J.: Hi, Rick.
Brooke: Hi, Taylor.
Taylor: Hi, Brooke.
Hope: Look, they brought Jack.
Hope: He's getting so big. Can we play with him, please?
Rick: Absolutely. Yes, definitely. Go ahead. Have a good time. (Chuckles)
Hope: Hi, Jack. Leapfrog here...
Ridge: This everything?
Bridget: Um, almost. I just have to check my medicine cabinet and a few drawers.
Ridge: Okay. You go ahead. I'll, uh, I'll load this stuff up.
Bridget: Okay. Thanks.
Ridge: She's one incredible woman.
Nick: Yes, she is.
Ridge: I'd say she's one of the finest human beings on this planet. How could you do this, Nick, after everything she did for you and Katie?
Nick: Forrester, this is between Bridget and me. I don't have to defend myself to you.
Ridge: That's because there is no defense. What you did to her was appalling.
Nick: Some things happened that shouldn't have, and I'll regret hurting Bridget forever, but there are some complexities that you don't understand.
Ridge: And what's so complex, being true to the woman you supposedly love and married?
Nick: Well, maybe you should ask Brooke. Maybe she can explain that to ya, because she wasn't always true to you, and guess what, Forrester...
Nick: You forgave her.
Ridge: Nick, you were just a speed bump in our relationship. That's all. That's all in the past now. Thank God Bridget is out of your life, and Brooke, too, for that matter, for good. You know, I never liked you, and after all this is over, I don't want anything to do with you ever, ever again.
Hope: (Speaking indistinctly)
Brooke: If you knew that we would be here today, why did you pick today to come up yourselves?
Rick: We came up last night. I planned it this way.
Brooke: I don't understand.
Rick: You know how I've been telling you about Taylor and Jack and things are not going well? Well, we've been talking about it for so long, and now something needs to be done.
Brooke: What are you saying?
Rick: I'm saying that we need to strip everything down to what's most important, and that's Jack and what's best for Jack. And I thought that allowing him to spend time with his siblings and his biological mother, away from the distractions of Los Angeles, would be a good start.
Brooke: Taylor, is something more going on with Jack? You obviously seem very upset.
Rick: Mom, but--just here, please? Just focus on me for a second. This is crucial. This is about Jack, a little boy who has been separated from his biological family. It's not working with Taylor and Jack. I don't know what it is. It's--it's--something is--is-- something is missing. No matter how hard she tries, they just-- she can't bond with him. He's not connecting with her.
Brooke: Well, maybe because you're always tense around him.
Taylor: Maybe I am a little tense, but I've got a lot of things going on inside of me, and I've been trying to fix it, but I-I can't.
Rick: Look, look, it-- it's okay. This is about what's best for Jack, okay?
Brooke: (Sighs) Well, what is best for Jack? What are you trying to say?
Rick: Well, that's why we're all here, Mom. We're--we're gonna figure that out.
Taylor: (Sighs) (Crying)
Brooke: Oh, my God. Are you considering letting me be a mother to Jack? Is that what Rick's trying to say? Is that what's going on here?
