Donna: I-I am so sorry. I-I couldn't.
Owen: Look, I understand.
Donna: I'm married, Owen. I love my husband.
Owen: Hey, I know you do.
Donna: (Gasps) Oh, my God.
Owen: Hey, no, no, no, no, no, no. Listen to me. It's okay. You're safe, all right?
Donna: Was it a bear? A bear?
Owen: You're safe.
Donna: I mean, what--
Owen: No, the bear is gone. Animal rescue took care of it.
Donna: Well, what-- what about Pam?
Owen: Listen to me, Donna. Pam can't hurt you anymore.
Donna: Did they catch her?
Owen: No. But you don't have anything to worry about. There's a police officer parked right down at the bottom of the driveway.
Donna: Yeah, but she-- she could sneak around.
Owen: No, she's not going to. She's long gone. And even if she isn't, she's not gonna get anywhere near you.
Donna: How do you know?
Owen: Because I'm not gonna let her.
Owen: Why what?
Donna: Why do you love me? I've caused you nothing but grief.
Owen: Look, Donna, what you've given me is...
Donna: A reason to be a hero?
Owen: Yeah. I guess you could say that.
Donna: (Laughs) My God, I was so-- so wrong about you, so wrong.
Owen: But in the end, you believed me.
Donna: You know, that's the first time in-- in weeks that I feel safe. It's all because of you.
Owen: (Whispers) Come here. Forget about what I did.
Felicia: Then what you're telling us is Aunt Pam is a murderer. She--she hasn't killed anybody yet.
Rick: She sure as hell tried.
Brooke: And then she tried to pin it on Donna.
Ridge: And when that didn't work, she tried to kill her, too. Now she's out there somewhere. She's on the loose.
Taylor: Well, at least the doctors know the cause of the heart attack. It wasn't some underlying condition that went undetected.
Rick: Well, Bridget, that being said, I mean, is there any way that dad can come out of his coma now, or--
Bridget: Unfortunately, no, 'cause the drugs caused the heart attack, and the heart attack is what caused the coma. The damage is already done. Just because we know the cause of it doesn't mean that we can bring him back.
Felicia: Well, I'm not giving up hope.
Ridge: Nobody's talking about giving up hope. It's just none of this should have happened. Mother, she's a loose cannon, and we all should have been aware of that.
Stephanie: I know that. I acknowledge that Pam is mentally ill. I acknowledge that. (Sighs)
Dr. Patrick: Hello, Katie.
Katie: Hi. Did you see Dr. Caspary? She just finished examining me.
Dr. Patrick: Yes, we spoke.
Katie: Then you know the baby's doing really well.
Dr. Patrick: Katie, we need to talk about this.
Katie: Okay. What is it?
Dr. Patrick: I think you know. In good conscience, I can't encourage you to continue with this pregnancy.
Katie: Dr. Patrick, Nick and I have talked about this, and I plan to carry this baby to term.
Dr. Patrick: Is Nick aware of the danger involved?
Katie: I think it was explained as "Potential danger."
Dr. Patrick: Dr. Caspary tells me you're already showing signs of preeclampsia. Your blood pressure is elevated.
Katie: Well, that's because I'm nervous just being here.
Dr. Patrick: It would be one thing if you became pregnant a couple of years from now, but your heart transplant was only a few months ago.
Katie: It was six months ago.
Dr. Patrick: Not quite. But still, you've already had one serious rejection episode. The stress on your new heart will increase as the pregnancy progresses. I have to be honest, Katie. If you continue this pregnancy, it could cost you your life.
Katie: I appreciate everything you've done for me, Dr. Patrick, but this pregnancy means more to me than anything, and I will do whatever is best for my baby.
Dr. Patrick: (Sighs) Then I'll see you next week for a full workup. Until then, stay well.
(Knock on door)
Nick: Hey, doc.
Dr. Patrick: Hello, Nick.
Nick: How's the patient?
Dr. Patrick: The truth is I've told Katie I'm very concerned for her. It's possible she won't survive this pregnancy. Please, consider that.
Katie: Don't listen to Dr. Patrick. He--he has to paint the most dire picture because he's my physician, and that's-- that's part of his job. But everything is gonna be fine, I promise. I'm really confident. My hg levels are up.
Nick: And that's good, hmm?
Katie: Yeah, it's good. It's really good. I mean, it means that the pregnancy is progressing normally, that the baby's gonna be beautiful and healthy.
Nick: Yeah, just like its mom.
Katie: Yeah. Um, you know, we're through the first trimester. You know what that means.
Nick: That means this baby's gonna be born. It's--it's gonna happen.
Katie: Yeah. And we also promised ourselves that we would tell Bridget when we were sure that the baby was safe. Are you ready to do that?
Ridge: Mother, I know Pam has psychological problems, but to do something like this?
Stephanie: Ridge, I didn't realize that she wasn't taking her medication.
Rick: That is no excuse for her to try to kill somebody.
Felicia: Rick, shut up.
Rick: No, no. Felicia, I'm serious here. Think about it. Dad made Pam's life possible and worth living in Los Angeles, and now she's the reason why dad is in a coma.
Ridge: And she's still at large, too.
Stephanie: But your father is safe. Look, the police have a watch on him at the hospital.
Brooke: What about Donna?
Stephanie: Well, the police are watching her, as well.
Felicia: So is Owen.
Stephanie: Look, I'm not, uh, trying to make any excuses for my sister. What she did was a terrible, terrible thing. But... (sighs) look, no--no one's more upset about this than I am. But she's mentally ill, and we have to have some compassion for her.
Donna: (Sighs) I don't think I'll ever look at this place the same after today.
Owen: Yeah, that'll pass.
Donna: You're so confident, just like Eric. You know, he made me feel so secure. I never had that before I met him. My--my life was uncertain, like it is now.
Owen: It doesn't have to be.
Donna: (Chuckles) You know, Eric was always... (sighs) so protective of me. Now I understand why. I was so-- so dependent on him. Now I understand why he-- he made it a point to tell me to move on with my life if anything ever happened. You know, for the longest time, I-I thought he was gonna come out of this coma and things would be the way they used to be, but... I don't know if that's gonna happen.
Owen: That scares you, I know.
Donna: My God, will you look at those stars? There's millions of 'em. The universe is so vast, and we're so insignificant.
Donna: Eric made me feel significant.
Owen: Donna, you are significant, and to me, you're the only star in the sky.
Donna: (Cries) (Laughs) Whoa!
Woman: (Speaks indistinctly)
Woman: I know.
Taylor: Stephanie's right. What, um, Pam did was wrong, but we're not trying to excuse any of this. It's--it's just that she is family like the rest of us.
Stephanie: She had a difficult childhood, but you all know that. And when Eric brought her to Los Angeles, I think she was probably happy for the first time in her life. She got to participate in a family, the kind of family that she always wanted to have.
Ridge: Okay, well, why would she do this to dad, who's head of that family then?
Taylor: Because she wasn't being herself, Ridge.
Rick: Again, that's not an excuse!
Stephanie: I understand, Rick. (Sighs) I also think I understand why she did it. I think she did it for me.
Ridge: For you?
Taylor: Mm-hmm. Yes, that's exactly right. That's why she did it. She did it for her sister, who she loves more than any of us even realize. She felt that Stephanie had been wronged by Eric when he left her for Donna.
Ridge: S-so you're saying this is payback?
Taylor: I don't-- I don't know if I would call it that. Maybe. But... (sighs) she drugged Eric hoping that Donna would be framed for it. These were the two people that harmed her sister the most, and I know it doesn't make any sense to us, but it was logical to her.
Ridge: It was a tragic situation. It never should have happened.
Stephanie: No, Ridge, it should never have happened. We all acknowledge that. And I take responsibility in the sense that I should have been more aware, aware that she wasn't taking the medications and that now your father's the one that's paying for it, but I just-- I just wasn't aware. I just wasn't.
Owen: Whenever you're ready to go, just let me know.
Donna: Yeah, I guess I'm just waiting for something.
Owen: For what?
Donna: What you did for me today-- driving up here like a madman and saving me-- and thank you just doesn't seem like enough.
Owen: Well, it is.
Donna: The way I see you, it--it changed today. And if Eric's spirit is up there, he's grateful for you, too.
Owen: That's because he loves you, and he knows you're safe.
Owen: Is that what you're waiting for? Are you waiting for some sort of a message from Eric?
Donna: (Laughs) It's kind of silly, isn't it? (Giggles) Oh, my God. Did you see that?
Owen: Yeah, I did see that. It's a shooting star.
Donna: Shooting star.
Owen: Yeah, maybe that's, uh--
Donna: Oh, my God. No, no, not "Maybe." No, it's a sign from Eric. I-I can feel it.
Owen: And what is he saying?
Donna: He's saying what he always said. "Life is meant to be lived, to be loved."
Katie: Are you okay with this?
Nick: Well, I mean, Bridget has to be told. It's time.
Katie: Yeah. How do you think she'll react?
Nick: I don't know. But we do know this has to happen.
Katie: (Sighs) you know, Nick, throughout everything, the one guiding force in our lives has been love, love and understanding. I don't know how we'll get through this, but we will. And I have to believe that--that in time, Bridget w-will come to understand everything and accept it, especially since...
Nick: Since what?
Katie: Since one day, you and she might be raising this child. .
(Car horn beeps)
Nick: Katie, the three of us are gonna raise this child.
Katie: Right. Of--of course.
Nick: But that's not what you said.
Katie: Well, if-- if anything happens.
Nick: Nothing's gonna happen.
Katie: That's what we're hoping, but we have to be prepared.
Nick: Do you know something I don't? The doctor--did he say something that I need to know about?
Katie: Nick, we have to be realistic. This is not just another pregnancy. I mean, come on. I-I-I take this daily regimen of drugs. I take a lot of drugs. And you know what they do? They keep me alive. And--and no one knows for how long. I mean, I-I-I'm gonna make it another six months because I have promised myself that I am going to give birth to this child. But beyond that...
Nick: Well, we're not gonna go there.
Katie: No, no. We have to, because we--we have to be realistic. We can't pretend any longer. Believe me. I-I lie in bed at night, and I--and I dream about this baby. I-I-I-I think about what he or she will look like, and I-I want tee him grow strong and beautiful. I want that more than anything. But it might not happen, and we have to accept that. I've accepted it, and you have to, too. (Sighs) I'm okay with this. I really am. And do you want to know why? I'm okay with it because I know you, and I trust you, and I know you will be there for this baby. And I truly believe that if I'm not, if I'm not here, Bridget will be there, too.
Nick: Okay. I-I hear you. (Clears throat) I'll tell her tomorrow.
Katie: (Whispers) Okay. (Sniffles)
Owen: God, I came so close to losing you.
Donna: You saved me. You confessed for me.
Owen: Marcus-- he's the one who got me out of jail.
Donna: (Laughs) My incredible son.
Owen: Yeah. And I told him that we have something in common-- that we both love you.
Donna: (Laughs) Oh, Owen. (Sighs) Well, we better get back down the mountain before we--
Owen: Are you okay?
Donna: I'm fine. I'm fine.
Owen: Donna, you've got every reason to hope that Eric's gonna be all right now that we know what caused his heart attack.
Donna: I have been praying for that for so long.
Owen: Then you keep it up because your prayers might just be answered.
Stephanie: What have I done to you? (Sighs) Because you're such a sweet, generous, kind man, you brought Pam to Los Angeles, and... look, here you are now. I hope you could forgive her. I think you could because aren't you the one that always said to me, "Something good comes out of every situation, no matter how tragic"? It may sound a little self-serving that I'd want you to forgive her. But honestly, I believe something good will come from this. Eric, there isn't anything I won't do or anything I won't try to bring you back. It doesn't matter whether we're married or not. It's... I'm here for you. I believe you can come back. And I promise you, I won't rest until you do. I promise.
