Nick: She needs you, Beth.
Beth: You said she's better.
Nick: That's right, I did.
Beth: (Scoffs) There's nothing I can do.
Nick: You're Katie's mother. You can be there to help her face this. It's your job.
Donna: What can I say? I'm--I'm a proud mom.
Brooke: Marcus does seem like a very nice you man.
Donna: Not that I can take any credit.
Katie: You still haven't told Eric that Marcus is your son?
Donna: I know, okay? I will.
Katie: I just think that if-- if Eric is as impressed with him as you say he is, than it seems kind of risky to wait. I mean, something could go wrong.
Donna: Nothing is going to go wrong. Marcus is a perfect gentleman. It's just a little more time, and all the Forresters will be charmed.
Marcus: Oh, ho, ho, ho. Ouch. Denied on that one.
Steffy: But, Marcus, I hardly know you. (Sighs)
Marcus: But... you want to know me.
Steffy: Getting to know someone usually involves talking first.
Marcus: Well, it's all using your lips.
Steffy: Well, why don't you use yours and fill in some blanks for me? I know you're Donna's son. She gave you up for adoption. You grew up in Texas, and now you work at Forrester Creations, and my family has no idea who you are. Tell me something I don't know, Marcus Walton.
Marcus: Well, it wasn't my idea to keep your Granddad in the dark.
Steffy: (Laughs) I could have guessed that.
Marcus: 'Cause I'm such an honest guy?
Steffy: You're nice enough.
Marcus: But you still have got questions. Okay. Steffy Forrester, ask me anything.
Brooke: Waiting could backfire on you, you know?
Donna: I'm not ready yet.
Katie: I just think that... (sighs) you need to tell Eric before he hears it from somebody else.
Donna: I know. I know.
Donna: Wait. You didn't tell Ridge?
Brooke: No, and that's another issue. I mean, it's one thing if you want to keep it from the man in your life, but Ridge and I vowed to be completely honest with each other this time around.
Donna: Well, I-I just thought you'd want to know.
Brooke: I do. I do, and I'm very happy. I'm thrilled to meet Marcus, and I'd like to get to know him better. I just don't think it's gonna happen under these circumstances.
Katie: We just didn't want to see this wonderful surprise turn into a disaster. I mean, you and Eric have a great marriage. It's based on all the right things-- love and honesty and mutual respect. I don't want to see that jeopardized.
Donna: Thank you. Thank you both for-- for worrying, and thank you for sharing this with me. And I do, I do want to share this with Eric... and dad... and especially mom. I mean, she and storm were my confidants. I went to-- I went to them when I was pregnant. She took such good care of me at Aunt Bonnie's. I mean, I had-- I had so many questions. I had--I had so many fears. What would happen to my baby, and what--what he could be like when he grew up. I think she'd really want to see him, you know? I-I think maybe we should fly her out here after I tell Eric.
Katie: I'm not sure she'd come. I called her, and I told her that I'd really like to see her, and it didn't sound like she wanted to come.
Donna: She--she said "no"?
Brooke: Not exactly.
Katie: She didn't bother to give a direct answer. She said she was busy, and she hung up the phone.
Beth: If you are going to berate me, you can leave.
Nick: I'm not berating you, and I'm not leaving.
Beth: Then at least, please, try to understand that what happened to my family is a shock.
Nick: Is this how you want to deal with it? I told you that her recovery will take a while. She's a strong woman, Beth-- all your daughters are. And Brooke and Donna-- they've been there for her, but she wants her mother now. She needs you.
Steffy: So you're an open book, huh?
Marcus: Anything you want to know.
Steffy: Is that supposed to make me feel all shivery inside? Maybe I'll get so flustered, I'll forget you and your mom are lying to my Granddad.
Marcus: You know, something tells me that you don't forget about anything.
Steffy: Nothing. So let me give you some advice. Sneaking around this family never leads to anything good. Lies always come out, and usually in the worst possible way.
Marcus: Look, I don't like lying to people. I just want get t to know my mom a little, I donít need this drama thing.
Donna: Our mother would not blow you off. You misunderstood.
Katie: She pretty much hung up on me, Donna. I mean, I almost died. Where has she been? And did I wake up and--and find her by my bedside? No. I had to call her. I-I asked her to come visit, and she--she said nothing.
Brooke: Dad said mom was extremely upset over Storm's death.
Katie: Do you think she blames me? Do you think that's why she doesn't want to see me?
Brooke: No, of course not.
Katie: Well, to me, that's the only explanation that makes sense.
Brooke: No. There's got to be another reason.
Donna: Nobody could blame you for any of this.
Brooke: Maybe mom doesn't want us to have to console her after everything that we've been through.
Donna: Yeah, maybe she's the one who feels guilty. I mean, dad was here. She wasn't. Uh, did you-- did you try to call her back? If the line dropped, maybe she thought you hung up on her.
Katie: I'm telling you, Donna, she was cold. It was like-- it was like she was uncomfortable talking to me.
Brooke: I'm sorry, sweetie.
Katie: I don't understand, Brooke. I don't understand why she doesn't want to see me.
Beth: Look, you said yourself, the girls are there for one another. There's no reason for me to go. I'd just-- I'd just be in the way.
Nick: You won't be in the way.
Beth: Isn't she living with Brooke?
Nick: She's living with Bridget and me has been since the transplant.
Beth: You and Bridget? I thought-- weren't you and--and Brooke together?
Nick: We were. Not anymore. We've moved on. We still care a great deal about each other, and we all care about Katie.
Beth: You must care a great deal about her to come all this way.
Nick: I think it says a lot more about how much she cares about you. Beth, if you're uncomfortable about Stephen being involved, I'll make sure he stays out of it.
Beth: (Clears throat)
Nick: If you'd like to go somewhere alone with your daughters, I can arrange that. No matter what the problem is, it can be taken care of. Your relationship with your daughters is what's most important. Come home with me.
Steffy: I don't want to mess things up with you and your mom. Wow.
Steffy: (Sighs) Donna is somebody's mom.
Marcus: What, you don't think she's the type?
Steffy: Let's just say this is gonna blow the family away.
Marcus: You mean, when Donna and I tell them I'm her son?
Steffy: I'm not sure I even want to be a fly on the wall for that conversation.
Marcus: Oh, says the nosy girl I caught digging through my backpack.
Steffy: I thought you might be a spy. Industrial espionage is hot. Family drama is just family drama.
Marcus: Exactly. A spy, huh?
Steffy: Don't let it go to your head.
Marcus: I don't know. I could be insulted.
Steffy: But you're not.
Marcus: Well, you know, they say L.A.'s the place to go where people reinvent themselves. Maybe I found myself a new persona.
Steffy: What if I like the persona you have?
Brooke: Katie, we don't know why mom hasn't come home, but you're not alone. We're here for you.
Katie: I know. I know, and I am so grateful for that.
Donna: We wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
Katie: I'm okay, really. I... (sighs) I know I have support, and if mom can't give me hers right now, well, I can't help that. I-I mean, it might be very hard for her to come to terms with what Storm did. It was for me, and he's her son.
Brooke: No, I don't think that was it.
Katie: But if it is, then it's something that I'll just have to deal with. It's a lot to face. I know. Maybe it's too much for her to--to see me right now or to comfort me... but she'll come around. She'll come home. She has to.
Beth: This is my home.
Nick: This is where you live. You raised your family in L.A., and that's where your daughters are, and they want you to be a part of it.
Beth: I am not a part of it.
Nick: Is it because you don't want to be? That's the real question here. I'm here because I believe in everybody involved, and that includes you. Your daughters are amazing women, and they have handled every crisis with courage and strength, especially Katie. (Sighs) but she's still your little girl... and your little girl wants her mother.
Nick: All she's asking is that you pay her a visit, that you show up and you put your arms around her. She wants to be held by her mother.
Nick: What do you say?
Beth: All right.
Nick: Good choice.
Beth: I will check my schedule, and I will book a flight as soon as possible.
Nick: That's all right. I come with a jet, ready and fueled.
Beth: No, because I need to get ready. I-I--there are arrangements I have to make and--
Nick: Beth, pack a bag. I'll handle everything else.
Beth: (Sighs) All right.
Nick: We're ready. File the flight plan. We're heading back to L.A.
[ Upbeat, percussive ]
Marcus: Look, we can joke, right, but I know this is putting you in a bind.
Steffy: It feels a little weird keeping a secret from my dad, especially when it's not my secret.
Marcus: Well, let's just hope we won't have to keep it that much longer.
Steffy: I missed a lot of time with my mom when I was a kid. We tried to pick up right where we left off, but it didn't happen overnight. You just met your mom. It's gonna take time to sort things out.
Marcus: (Laughs) See, now--now why can't the rest of your family be that understanding?
Steffy: They are.
Steffy: They will be. When the truth comes out, they won't blame you.
Marcus: Well, I don't want them blaming Donna either... or you. (Speaking indistinctly)
Marcus: Listen, Steffy, I really do appreciate everything you're doing for me, but I don't want to bring this down on you.
Steffy: I'm not gonna blow this for you and your mom. When the time is right, my Granddad will find out you're Donna's son.
Beth: Hmm. (Laughs)
Nick: Oh, you don't have to buckle up yet. Stephen's on his way. You're okay with him coming?
Beth: Fine--oh, fine.
Nick: You guys are, uh--
Beth: We're--we're fine.
Nick: Good. Well, this is ready to go. Just hit send. I think Katie would like to hear that you're coming from you.
Beth: Oh, no. We'll wait for Stephen. He should tell her.
Nick: I really think it's best coming from you.
Beth: (Scoffs) Dear god, what do I say?
Donna: What do you think could be going on with mom? I--
Brooke: I don't know.
Donna: Well, I certainly hope it's not what Katie said.
Brooke: I certainly hope not. (Phone rings)
Donna: Oh, god. We should get that. Katie needs to sleep.
Brooke: Yeah. Hello?
Beth: Hello. Brooke, it's, uh, mom.
Brooke: Mom, is that you? Oh, my gosh. How are you?
Beth: Uh, fine. I'm--I'm fine. I-I was calling for Ka-Katie.
Brooke: Oh, she's gonna be so disappointed she missed you. She's asleep already.
Beth: Oh, well, don't-- no--wake her up, but just would you let her know that I'm coming home?
Brooke: (Laughs) You're coming home? Really? Well, that's great. Katie's gonna be so excited. We all are. We miss you.
Beth: I've--I've missed you, too. And--well, I'll be home first thing in the morning.
Brooke: Oh, this is great. This is just super. This is gonna be wonderful for all of us.
Beth: Well, well, good-bye, Brooke.
Brooke: (Sighs) (laughs)
Donna: She's coming?
Brooke: Yeah, she's coming.
Brooke: That's what she said. She should be here tomorrow morning.
Donna: Well, how--how did she sound?
Brooke: She sounded like mom. A little uneasy, though.
Donna: What could possibly be going on? What--what's taken her this long to come home?
Brooke: I don't know, but we're certainly going to find out.
Nick: How's she doing?
Beth: Oh, I didn't speak to Katie. It was Brooke.
Nick: Brooke? Why would Brooke be in my house? Is everything okay?
Beth: I guess. Katie was sleeping.
Nick: Sleeping. All right. Good. Good.
Beth: You really care about her.
Nick: Yes, I do. (Sighs) you haven't been in touch with your daughters much lately, have you?
Beth: Well, they're very busy women. They have their own lives.
Nick: It just surprises me, the way they speak of you growing up-- you were all so close.
Beth: Well, we-- we live so far apart now.
Nick: Right. I guess it takes a little getting used to, right? Separate lives, how everything changes.
Beth: Well, you have to get used to it.
Nick: Does it scare you that things might be different?
Beth: (Laughs) Things are different.
Nick: But they still love you, and they still need you the same as always and maybe more, and I believe... that you need them, too.
Nick: You're gonna see that when you walk through that door and those girls rush into your arms. You'll know. You'll know that all of the hope and heartache that a mother puts into raising their children. You know, Beth, these women are amazing, and they have turned out to be more than you would ever want them to be, and all they really want right now... is you. They just want to be with their mother. Well, it'll be a special time for all of you. I promise.
