Katie: Can you hear me?

Brooke: Yes.

Katie: Are you real?

Nick: We're real, and so are you.

Brooke: (Sighs)

Brooke: How do you feel?

Katie: Uh, different. (Sighs)

Donna: What's happening?

Bridget: (Sniffles) Let me examine you. I think her fever's breaking.

Brooke: (Sighs)

Bridget: Your fever's gone.

Katie: (Sighs)

Brooke: Oh, thank god.

Bridget: Oh, I think it might be gone for good.

Brooke: (Sighs)

Donna: Oh.

Bridget: (Sighs)

Steffy: The water damage wasn't on our end. It hasn't rained within 100 miles of here in months. (Door opens)

Steffy: No, we're not filing a claim with your shipper. You are. And when can we expect to have the fabric replaced? Great. Thank you so, so much. Grandmother!

Stephanie: Ahh! (Laughs)

Steffy: (Laughs)

Stephanie: Mm. Well, you are your father's daughter. There's no doubt about that.

Steffy: Did I sound that awful?

Stephanie: No, you sounded very firm and in charge. Listen, I've been wandering all over this building looking for you. I brought lunch for us.

Steffy: Oh, I-I've just been so busy here with everything.

Stephanie: Yes, I know. Shipping and receiving?

Steffy: Eh, at least nobody cares what I wear.

Stephanie: But why? You're not interested, never have been interested in the business.

Steffy: Well, it's turned out to be more interesting than I thought.

Marcus: Have any messages for me?

Pam: (Laughs) I am not your secretary. So, uh, what do you do down here anyway?

Marcus: Well, at the moment, I'm documenting a shipment that came in water damaged.

Pam: Uh-huh. And what exactly are your qualifications for that again?

Marcus: Uh, that I can tell wet from dry.

Pam: (Laughs) (Clicks tongue) Good one.

Bridget: The human genome's just recently been mapped, and ten years ago, we didn't know what mune cell genes were involved in graft rejection, but now we do, and we can turn them off in some cancers by blocking the receptors. So I figured, why couldn't we do it in you?

Brooke: So you did it, honey. You figured it out.

Bridget: Well, I just figured someone somewhere had to be doing this, and I finally found a study that was being done in stockholm, and Dr. Patrick completely understood.

Brooke: (Sighs)

Katie: So the fever's not coming back?

Bridget: I don't think so. You're still gonna have to take your fusion protein and your anti-rejection medication, but I'm almost positive it's never coming back.

Brooke: (Sighs)

Katie: (Sighs)

Nick: (Laughs) Look, I don't know what I just heard. I don't know the science of all of this, but she's gonna live...

Bridget: (Laughs)

Nick: And that is a miracle.

Donna: (Laughs)

Nick: And that miracle is you.

Bridget: Oh, no.

Donna: (Laughs) Oh.

Stephanie: Was it, um, a little strange to come home to a brand-new baby brother?

Steffy: Oh, Jack is so much fun.

Stephanie: Actually, I'm glad you're here to help your mother with him. I'm, you know, concerned about her being alone up at that house.

Steffy: So is there a new drive-through Scampi place in L.A. Now?

Stephanie: I'm sure there is, but it's Cafe Ruse is where they make this the best.

Steffy: Ahh.

Stephanie: I don't suppose I'm any more alone than your mother is. Is that what you were kind of hinting at there?

Steffy: I'm so sorry about you and grandfather.

Stephanie: Thank you. I am, too. Big life lesson-- don't take your relationships for granted. Anyway, I'm glad that you're back here and not gadding about partying in London.

Steffy: What makes you think I'm partying?

Stephanie: (Laughs) I am the eyes and ears of the world. I know everything.

Steffy: Huh. I would have thought you approved of meeting high-profile people, making connections.

Stephanie: Oh, I do approve of that if you want to make a success of yourself. But why not come back here, as you have obviously done, and do it here at the company?

Steffy: There's so many people trying to make so many marks here.

Stephanie: You speaking of Donna? Hmm. I don't think we could say that work is her forte.

Steffy: And Dad and thorne and Aunt Felicia all staging some kind of mutiny.

Stephanie: Well, uh-- (laughs) that's a fight that I'm not gonna get caught in the middle of, and I would advise you not to, either.

Steffy: This isn't Switzerland. I don't think neutrality is allowed.

Stephanie: Mm.

Marcus: She gonna be okay?

Donna: Well, you know, a heart transplant isn't something you just get over, but--but yeah, I think the crisis is behind us.

Marcus: That's great. Look, when you see her, you tell her I said "Way to go."

Donna: You were really worried.

Marcus: You know, I thought you would call. I mean, I couldn't call you, so--

Donna: You-- you were the first person I wanted to tell. But, Marcus, what happened last night and today, it made me-- it made me realize that life is just too short, and I don't want you down here having to watch everything you say. I want to tell everyone you're my son today.

Marcus: Unh-unh. No. Forget that. They'll crucify you. I finally met the rest of your family, the ones that work here.

Donna: Why? Did they say something to you?

Marcus: Well, no. They were nice enough to my face, of course, but once I stepped outside, well--well, then, maybe I shouldn't have been listening, but you know, they're saying how come you get your husband to hire me, that you're gonna be the downfall of this company. You know, they're even blaming you for sales being down. They want you gone, Donna.

Donna: (Exhales) Yeah, yeah, I'm sure by lethal injection, but it's not going to happen, and I didn't do anything wrong.

Marcus: What about me?

Donna: You're my son. You're not a mistake.

Marcus: Yeah, well, I'm here under false pretenses. I mean, they're looking for any excuse to get you out of here and kick you to the curb, Donna...

Donna: (Exhales)

Marcus: And I just don't want to be that reason.

Donna: Eric--he loves me, and--and he will understand why I did what I did, and he'll want you to be a part of our family just as much as I do.

Marcus: Look, no offense-- I mean, your sister Katie I liked, but I don't know if I want to be part of a family who's talking trash about you.

Brooke: Better?

Katie: Mm-hmm. Those other sheets were so cold and wet.

Bridget: Yeah, well, you lost a lot of fluids, so I'm giving you some by I.V. Right now, and I bet you're gonna get pretty sleepy, huh?

Katie: Mm-hmm.

Bridget: (Sighs) I'm gonna go get the sheets started.

Brooke: I better go, let her rest. You'll call me if there's any change?

Nick: Well, you heard Bridget. All the change should be for the better now.

Brooke: You never did tell me how her evening at the prom was.

Nick: Well, I'm not sure I know what to say about that.

Brooke: You danced.

Nick: We danced.

Brooke: Did you ever find out what happened all those years ago?

Nick: Yes.

Brooke: But you're not gonna tell me.

Nick: It's done now.

Brooke: So I was right. Whatever it was was painful.

Nick: And it's not with her anymore.

Brooke: Because of you. Because of what you did for her.

Nick: Brooke, she was truthful and honest every step of the way, and she told me things she never told anyone else. So the way I look at it, I'm honored to be part of that, and it's something that I'll always remember. .

Steffy: That was such a good lunch-- really nice of you.

Stephanie: You're welcome. It's your last free pass. If you don't start visiting with me, I will lay a guilt trip on you, and you know how good I am at that.

Steffy: (Laughs)

(Door opens)

Brooke: Steffy! Oh!

Steffy: (Gasps) hi!

Brooke: I heard you were home. Hi.

Steffy: Oh, I kept wanting to come see you, but my dad told me what's going on with Katie.

Brooke: Oh, yeah.

Steffy: Look, I'm so sorry.

Stephanie: Have you seen Katie? How is she?

Brooke: (Exhales) Uh, actually, something really unexpected happened. You know how Bridget wouldn't give up, and she found this new treatment. They'd been studying it in Europe.

Stephanie: So are they gonna put her on the treatment?

Brooke: Bridget started her on the treatment, and... (sighs) I think she's-- she's gonna be fine.

Steffy: What?

Brooke: Katie's gonna pull through, yes.

Steffy: Oh, my god. That's wonderful.

Brooke: I know. I know. (Sighs)

Steffy: Oh, my...

Stephanie: How wonderful for Katie.

Brooke: (Laughs)

Bridget: I'm gonna give her a sponge bath when she wakes up.

Nick: Hey, a nurse can do that. Didn't you say we'd have a nurse in the morning?

Bridget: Yeah, but I-I can do it. I want to do it, actually.

Nick: You're so annoying sometimes, really.

Bridget: Some would question my professionalism. If we were at a hospital, there'd be an inquiry.

Nick: Why? Who would be unhappy about this?

Bridget: Well, the medical ethics committee for starters because she refused further treatment.

Nick: That's because it was the wrong treatment, and you're the one who found out the right treatment. You--little Bridget Forrester. I think that's incredible.

Bridget: Nick, I didn't do anything right. I just--it made sense to me, so I thought I would try it.

Nick: Shh, shh, shh, shh, please, please, please. You should have seen yourself last night.

Bridget: Oh.

Nick: Now listen to me. You'd done the science. You'd done the research. And me, I tried to get in your way. If it wasn't for you, we'd have been calling the morgue by now. After all of this time of knowing you, you know, it finally-- (snaps fingers) it finally clicked for me. I finally get what makes you tick.

Bridget: Hmm.

Nick: You just love life. You just do. You live for it, and even though she's family, you would have done the exact same thing for some stranger who walked through the hospital door, and I love you for that.

Bridget: (Sighs)

Donna: All right. All right, it--it's against my better judgment, but we won't say anything for now.

Marcus: Good choice.

Donna: (Sighs) but in the meantime, could--could you promise me your--you'll make an effort to let eric get to know you?

Marcus: How? Wave to him when he walks by?

Donna: Look, I just-- I just want him to be happy when I tell him. If you see him in the employee lunchroom, just say hi and strike up a conversation or anything. (Door opens)

Marcus: Okay. So do you want copies of those through bills, Mrs. Forrester?

Donna: Oh. Um, no. No, um, I just want to get caught up on today. Thanks.

Steffy: Brooke just told me the good news about Katie. I'm so glad.

Donna: Thank you, Steffy.

Steffy: Since when does she pay any attention to through bills?

Marcus: Hey, my job is to say, "How high?" When you Forresters say, "Jump," right?

Steffy: (Sighs) How mad are you?

Marcus: Hey, everybody has secrets. It's just that their name usually isn't one of them.

Steffy: Look, Marcus, I'm sorry. I mean it.

Marcus: Oh, no. It's cool, but now I know how you operate.

Steffy: Is it so hard to imagine I might not want to lay on you you're working with the boss's daughter?

Marcus: Granddaughter, you mean.

Steffy: Whatever. Okay, so I'm connected, but so are you.

Marcus: How's that?

Steffy: Would you be working here if it weren't for Donna?

Steffy: Did you ask Donna for a job?

Marcus: Look, I don't need to get by on favors from anybody.

Steffy: Asking for work isn't asking a favor. How else do people get jobs?

Marcus: Look, that day they had a memorial service for her brother, and maybe I shouldn't have been listening, but it got to me. So I went a little bit out of my way to say something nice to her, I guess.

Steffy: That was decent of you. Most strangers wouldn't bother.

Marcus: Well, most of the people there didn't seem to have much use for her, even though it was her house. Look, anyway, I told her I wouldn't be back. The catering thing just wasn't for me. Next thing you know, she asked if I needed a job. Look, I've got a driver waiting for me in the truck base.

Pam: Oh. Um, these samples need to go back.

Marcus: Uh, ms. Forrester can take care of that for you. Excuse me.

Pam: The nerve of him.

Steffy: Why? He's right. I'll take 'em.

Pam: If that's the way he passed hors d'oeuvres, it's a small wonder that his catering career died prematurely.

Steffy: What did he do that's so terrible?

Pam: I don't trust him, steffy. Do you know that he was hired without a background check? Now I wonder who got that waived.

Steffy: Why don't you just ask him?

Pam: (Laughs) Oh, no. No, no, , no, no. I have been strictly forbidden by your darling grandfather of asking even one simple question that might slightly annoy his bride. However, if, for instance, she did have a favorite employee whose personnel file just happened to be lying around, there'd be nothing stopping you from asking a few questions if you were curious.

Brooke: I really don't know what we would have done without Bridget, without Nick.

Stephanie: It's interesting. Katie's seems to have sensed that, um, she really could count on the two of them.

Stephanie: You don't look like you can take much more of this.

Brooke: No, I'm fine.

Stephanie: Really?

Brooke: Yeah. (Sniffles)

Stephanie: You just lost your brother. You barely get him buried, and you think you might lose your sister. I mean, I know your parents are not the most sympathetic people that you can count on.

Brooke: (Scoffs)

Stephanie: What I-- what I mean is... (sighs) you haven't known from one day to the next how--how much family you'd have left. It's been tough on you.

Brooke: (Sighs) (whispers) Yeah.

Stephanie: You know, you don't always have to be the strong one.

Brooke: (Whispers) Okay. (Inhales deeply) (Sighs)

Bridget: Nick, I just happened to stumble upon a strategy that worked for Katie, but you were the one that made her want to live.

Nick: She was amazing. You know, she told me things she's never told anyone. She let me in without any fear or self-pity. And I got to be honest with you, I feel like I have a bond with her.

Bridget: I thought that might happen, and I'm glad.

Nick: You mean that?

Bridget: Of course, I mean that.

Nick: Well, let's not forget about your part here, your gift in making sure it was okay that we got close, inviting her to live in this house, letting her know you didn't mind that she and i spent time together.

Bridget: Why would I mind?

Nick: Because, Bridget, you know there were feelings involved here that were beyond friendship.

Bridget: But, Nick-- Nick, you love me, and I know that. I'm so secure with our love, and I'm through being worried and vulnerable. I love you, and I know that no one's gonna ever take you away from me again, except for maybe me, and I'm never going to do that again... ever.
