Ridge: Ready to get started?
Steffy: What do you want me to do?
Ridge: We talked about management.
Steffy: I can't start in management.
Ridge: Yes, you can. You'd be a natural.
Steffy: I want to earn my place in this company. That means starting from the ground up.
Ridge: All right, shipping and receiving it is.
Steffy: Perfect. I want to learn the business the way you did, from the bottom up.
Ridge: Lucky for your old man, that could take a while.
Ridge: Come on.
Katie: (Sniffles) I'm sorry.
Nick: It's okay.
Katie: (Sniffles) No, it's not. (Sobs)
Nick: No, it's okay to cry about it.
Katie: I don't want to cry. I don't want to, not here. I just want to enjoy this. I want to enjoy this and my... (sniffles) charming tour guide.
Nick: At your service.
Katie: (Laughs) (sniffles)
Eric: Hey. Pam said you, uh-- you wanted to see me?
Donna: Oh, yeah. Um, yeah, I have a favor to ask of you.
Donna: I-I hope I'm not overstepping, but, um, there's--there's someone I want you to meet. He's an impressive young man. He's articulate and motivated, and I was hoping to offer him an entry-level position here.
Eric: Well, we're always looking for new talent. Of course, I'll meet him.
Donna: Oh, we already have. It's Marcus the caterer.
Eric: You want me to offer him a job?
Donna: Well, I kind of already told him to come. I hope it's okay. He's gonna be here any minute.
Steffy: Oh, I-I didn't know anybody was in here.
Eric: What are you-- I didn't know you were here.
Steffy: Hi, Grandpa.
Eric: Come here. Hi, honey. (Laughs) mm. Oh, my god. You know, nobody tells me anything. When did you get here?
Steffy: Today. I haven't even been back to the house yet.
Donna: Welcome home, Steffy.
Eric: We had a wonderful wedding. I'm sorry you weren't here for it.
Steffy: I know. I-I couldn't miss my final exams.
Eric: Well, this is a great surprise. Have you seen your father?
Steffy: Uh, yeah. He was showing me around shipping.
Steffy: I work there now.
Donna: Ship--shipping? Uh, but your--your sister was a company spokesperson.
Steffy: Yeah, well, I want to be more than a pretty face. I want to learn from the ground up.
Eric: Huh. Well, good. I think that we could use an infusion of young energy in every department.
Eric: I think that's terrific. In fact, we're going to, uh, interview a potential new hire in just a minute. Why don't you stay? Uh, he's about your age. You may end up working together.
Marcus: (Clears throat) I have an interview with Mr. and Mrs. Forrester.
Pam: Mrs. Forrester doesn't work here anymore.
Marcus: Donna got fired?
Pam: I was talking about my sister Stephanie. Donna Logan will never be the real Mrs. Forrester. (Picks up phone) um, Eric, there's a young man here who says he has an appointment with you.
Eric: Good. Good. W-well, bring him in right away.
Steffy: (Sighs) Um, maybe I should let you guys handle the interview.
Donna: Yeah. You know, we wouldn't want to make Marcus uncomfortable.
Eric: Oh, I don't think it would at all. I think it would be a good thing for him to have someone his own age in the room, be relaxing for him. (Door opens)
Pam: Your appointment...
Eric: Good. Thank you, Pam.
Thank you. Marcus, hello.
Marcus: Yes, sir. It's nice to see you again.
Eric: It's good to see you, too. My wife tells me you're looking for a job here at Forrester.
Marcus: I am.
Steffy: Hi. I'm Steffy.
Marcus: Hi. I'm Marcus.
Steffy: (Whispers) Don't let the old guy make you nervous.
Donna: Okay. Well, um, why don't we all sit down and get to know one another?
Eric: It's a good idea. Please, please. So, Marcus, uh, tell me what makes you think that you're the right candidate for a job here at Forrester Creations?
Brooke: If you think that charm of yours and that little grin is going to win me over, you're very mistaken.
Ridge: Sorry I'm late.
Ridge: Steffy's home.
Brooke: Oh. I'm sure she's thrilled about that.
Ridge: Uhh, not at first, but I explained the situation to her, and she's coming around.
Brooke: Is she gonna stay?
Ridge: We'll see how it goes.
Brooke: You took my advice.
Ridge: What is it about young women not wanting to be told what to do?
Brooke: Especially by their fathers. (Giggles)
Ridge: She seems genuinely interested in the, uh, business, though.
Brooke: Good. That's good. She'll be at the office. That means the two of you can spend a lot of time together. And that's what's really important.
Ridge: How's Katie doing?
Brooke: Well, she went out on the boat today with Nick.
Ridge: "The Marlin"?
Brooke: Yeah, they went over to Catalina. She's never been there before.
Ridge: Is that a really great idea at this point?
Brooke: Well, I had my concerns, too, but she seems really happy with Nick. And he takes all the weight off of her shoulders. (Sighs) It's just really good to see her that way.
Nick: (Exhales deeply)
Nick: You dug a hole.
Katie: I did. I wanted to be ready for when you brought the firewood back.
Nick: And your doctor said that was okay?
Katie: No, I didn't ask him.
Nick: Is there any kind of waiver I should sign so I'm not responsible in case you croak?
Katie: It felt good. It felt good to move my body.
Katie: Anyway, it doesn't matter much now, does it?
Nick: It matters to me.
Katie: Thank you.
Nick: You're welcome.
Katie: I just keep on thinking of all those things I should have done, all the things I wish I hadn't done.
Katie: I wish I had gotten married. I wish I'd had a baby. I just keep thinking of all those first experiences. The--those first steps, those first words must just be so amazing. And then sooner or later, it ends up being soccer games and school plays and just surviving high school-- algebra and social clicks and senior prom.
Nick: Prom not so good?
Katie: Let's just say it wasn't exactly the experience that every girl dreams about. Anyway, it was a million years ago. I don't even know why I brought it up. It doesn't matter now. I'm hungry. Do you want to eat?
Nick: Yeah. Let's see what we got here.
Marcus: I don't have any experience.
Donna: Well, not yet, but that's why you want the job.
Eric: So you would consider yourself a-a self-starter?
Steffy: He must be. He got himself an interview with you.
Eric: I guess I'm just curious what, uh, what brought you here to Forrester Creations.
Marcus: Well, you know, it's not such a stretch. I mean, Brooke started in catering before she started working here.
Marcus: Actually, sir, I'm not really a caterer.
Eric: So that's not where your ambitions lie?
Marcus: No way.
Eric: But you're--are you-- so you're interested in fashion?
Marcus: I'm not really into fashion either.
Eric: And yet you are looking for a job here at Forrester Creations?
Marcus: Well, you have regular business stuff here, too, as well, right? I mean, it's not all about drawing and sewing.
Eric: No, it's not. So you're more interested in an administrative sort of position?
Marcus: Well, honestly, sir, I just want to be here. I mean, I don't-- what--I'll do whatever you need me to do. I don't mind gettin' my hands dirty. I don't mind if you want me to wear a suit and tie. I just feel that this is the right place for me to be right now.
Eric: Mm-hmm. So you have an intuition?
Eric: Well, I think that's a good thing, actually. That's what this business is all about around here-- uh, instinct and desire. All right, you might not be an exact match around here, but I think that maybe you and Forrester Creations might get along just fine.
Marcus: I got the job?
Eric: Yeah. Yes. Now Steffy just started in--in shipping, so she can show you the ropes down there.
Steffy: Yeah, you can learn a lot down there.
Eric: And if you're as smart as my wife tells me you are, I don't think it'll be very long before you teach us a thing or two.
Ridge: Obviously, I'm not seeing the big picture here. Katie and Nick?
Brooke: They're friends.
Ridge: Didn't I hear a while back she has a crush on him?
Brooke: I don't really think that matters now.
Ridge: Logan, she's very fragile. With what she's going through now, that's, uh, totally expected. If Nick is just doing his typical captain hero thing, you know, that routine he does--
Brooke: No, it's not a routine.
Ridge: She needs someone she can depend on. She needs to surround herself with people that truly care about her.
Brooke: And he does care about her... a lot.
Ridge: How does Bridget feel about that? Didn't she just move in with him?
Brooke: (Sighs heavily) Ridge, we're all trying to get Katie through this time right now. We're trying to help her through this. And Nick just seems to make her happy. I want her to be happy.
Ridge: So do I. I'm sorry. I'll do whatever I can to help. Katie may have lousy taste in friends, but she's still family.
Katie: What? What's so funny?
Nick: You. I was thinking about when you came to L.A., and you just got right in my face, right in my face.
Katie: You deserved it.
Nick: You liked me.
Katie: Well, of course, of course. Who could not like you?
Nick: And then of course you had to keep me at arm's length like you do with everybody all the time.
Katie: Said one porcupine to another.
Nick: That's true. I did used to be like that.
Katie: But then you met Brooke and Bridget, and now you have Jack. It must be so incredible to hold your child in your arms and know that he's a part of you, your own little piece of immortality.
Nick: You'd be a great mom.
Katie: Maybe. Who knows?
Nick: Well, Jack thinks you're awesome. He tells me all the time.
Katie: Jack doesn't talk.
Nick: He does talk. He talks to me, and I understand him. You should hear us go on.
Katie: Well, I guess that won't happen now.
Donna: You got the job. You got it.
Marcus: Shipping-- that's--that's good. I-I-I can do that.
Donna: Well, you know, I was kind of hoping you'd be closer to Eric, but, you know, this could work. I mean, there'll be packages to deliver and invoices to sign. And I mean, you could meet his whole family the very first day.
Marcus: Well, if they don't like you so much, I mean, shouldn't I stay out of their way?
Donna: No, I want them to see what an incredible young man you are.
Marcus: So you want them to like me before they find out I'm your son?
Donna: Eric already likes you. I can tell.
Marcus: Yeah. Well, he's gonna like me a lot better once he find out what I can do around here. I'm gonna make you proud of me.
Donna: I'm already proud. Now, uh, I have to go to a meeting. Are you gonna be okay?
Marcus: Oh, no, I'll be fine. I'll be fine.
Donna: Okay. Congratulations. And good luck.
Marcus: You, too.
Donna: 'Kay. (Giggles)
Marcus: Okay. All right.
Steffy: (Laughs) Well, everyone should be so excited about a new job.
Marcus: Well, aren't you? I mean, you just started working here, too, right?
Marcus: So you've got as much to learn as I do.
Steffy: Uh, not quite. I've been around the fashion business my whole life. It's kind of in the blood.
Marcus: Oh, okay. Well, look, um, you won't have to keep bailing me out the way you did in the interview. Thanks, by the way.
Steffy: Yeah. Congratulations, by the way.
Marcus: Thanks. You know, I'm gonna need someone to show me the ropes around here. You know, I can't mess this up. I really want to impress Mr. Forrester.
Steffy: Mm-hmm. Well, uh, I think I can help you with that.
Brooke: I can't do this without you.
Ridge: I'm here.
Brooke: I know you've had issues with my family. (Sighs)
Ridge: Logan, everything that's happened with Katie is way beyond all that.
Brooke: I know. But all that is my life, too. Everything that's going on with Katie, yes, that takes precedence over everything. But still, all of those issues are gonna be there. And I need to know that you are going to support me through the big problems, through the small ones. But things are gonna get pretty tough for me. That things could be bad for us, too.
Ridge: I'm here for you... always.
Nick: Got a good one?
Katie: It's a piece of sea glass. I've got a jar at home that I keep this stuff in. I've been filling it up since I was a kid.
Nick: Does that make you a collector or a pack rat?
Katie: Both, I guess. I thought about getting rid of it, but it's kind of a record of all those days at the beach that I spent with my brother and my sisters. Donna and Brooke would go surfing, and I would walk along the beach and pick up glass.
Nick: Well, if you grabbed the whole bottle, you could have gotten the deposit.
Katie: Yeah, I guess you're right about that. It's kind of amazing, though, isn't it? It just makes you think about the power of the ocean that can take this jagged piece of glass and turn it into this smooth stone. The ocean washes away all the sharp edges and turns them into something beautiful.
Nick: Believe me, I understand. Oh, here. Take this.
Katie: I thought I left these on "The Marlin."
Nick: Yeah, luckily I found 'em. Bridget doesn't want you to miss a dose.
Katie: I'm not going back to the hospital. I'm not going back to tubes and wires and machines that beep all night long. I'm not going back to needles and the antiseptic smell. I don't want that. I don't want to be some sick person lying helpless on a bed. I like it here. It's peaceful, serene.
Nick: Well, we don't have to leave yet. You just have to take your medication.
Katie: I don't think we should leave at all. I think I should stay right here. I like it here. I'm at peace right here. I've got the sun on my face and the wind in my hair. I think I could stay here for as long as it takes.
Nick: Take your pills, Katie, please. Take your pills.
