Brooke: I can't believe this is happening.
Bridget: Katie, I have been praying so hard that your body would not reject the new heart.
Katie: But now you're telling me that it has? You're telling me that I'm not gonna make it?
Donna: Just give me a chance to figure this out.
Marcus: Look, you wanted to tell your husband that I'm your son. I thought it was a bad idea, for starters, but now you're just making up excuses.
Donna: Look, Stephanie has hurt him so much. I mean, she has deceived him again and again. My husband is-- he deserves so much better, Marcus. He's--he's so wonderful. I've--I've never met anyone like him.
Marcus: Yeah. And the last thing you need is a complication like me to mess things up.
Donna: Look, I-I can't just introduce him to a stranger. I-- just give me a chance to-- to--to bring you into our lives so he can get to know you so--so it won't be such a shock.
Marcus: Look, I never told you to tell the world about me. Look, I came to town to put a face to a name. I've done that. Now I'll go, and I'll never look back so you and your hubby can live happily ever after. And don't worry about me because I can take care of myself. I always have.
Donna: Marcus, I know you can take care of yourself. I just-- I just hope you give me a chance to help.
Katie: How long do I have?
Bridget: It's extremely hard to predict.
Katie: Bridget, please, just tell me how long.
Bridget: A few weeks.
Katie: Or less?
Donna: I'm sorry. Marcus, I-I know I'm-- I'm disappointing you again. But if--if there's a way I can figure out not--not to hurt Eric... look, his kids are--are threatening to kick him out of his own company if I cause a scandal.
Marcus: And I'm the scandal? I'm a threat to you. Why I ever thought that you might want me in your life--
Donna: No, I do. I do, Marcus, and so will Eric once he gets to know you. I-I just have to figure out how to make this happen. Look, there-- there's got to be a way. There's got to be a way. (Sighs)
Donna: Wait, I-I got it. I could try to get you a job at Forrester Creations.
Marcus: Are you kidding me? A fashion house? I-I don't--I don't know nothing about that.
Donna: No, no, w-we could get you an in--an internship or--or some entry-level position. You can learn about the business. But look, no one can know you're my son, but we-- we can get to know one another, and--and you can get to know Eric and--and his family.
Marcus: (Scoffs) me? Work at Forrester? I--
Donna: Look, just-- just stop it. I'll take care of everything, okay? Just this--this could work, Marcus. It could work. You just-- will you give it a try?
Katie: A few weeks is not-- not much time.
Brooke: We'll all be with you, Katie.
Katie: Is he sure?
Bridget: Oh, sweetheart, I-I wish he wasn't, but Dr. Patrick thinks there's nothing else that can be done medically.
Brooke: I really think we need to get a second opinion.
Katie: No, I-I just-- I-I just need to think about this for a second. I just need to think about this for-- in the meantime, I don't want you all treating me like I'm gonna drop dead at any minute. I can't stand that. I just-- I just want to live my life. I just want to live my life. Can you help me do that?
Brooke: (Whispering) I promise.
Nick: I promise.
Bridget: (Sniffles) (whispering) I promise.
Marcus: Me working at Forrester? Unh-unh. Bad idea.
Marcus: Well, that freaky receptionist, for starters. Look, she was asking me all kinds of questions, asking if me and you had a thing going on.
Marcus: Yeah, I told her, "no way." You think she believed me? Well, she's suspicious, and she's dangerous. She's trouble.
Donna: Okay, Pam is Stephanie's sister, and she would love nothing more than to see me out of the picture, but Eric knows her game. I am not gonna lose my husband or my son because of some-- some cuckoo bird. Look, now that you're back in my life, I'm not gonna let you go again.
Marcus: Look, I meant what I said earlier. I had no intentions on staying here. I just wanted to look you in the eye and say I met my mother. I've done that now, so--
Donna: So what? So what? You're--that's it? That's it? You're out the door?
Marcus: Why do you want to make this so hard?
Donna: Why-- why do you want to miss out on this opportunity? It's a chance for us to get to know one another. And Forrester creations-- it's--it's an amazing company. Just give it a chance. Just give us a chance.
Marcus: But what if it doesn't work? What if he doesn't like me? I mean, come on. Look, he married a beautiful, young, sexy woman. Now you're a mother with a grown kid.
Donna: Now-- now that I found you again, I-I'm not just gonna let you leave. Eric will accept this.
Marcus: But if he doesn't? If I blow up your marriage, how are you gonna feel about me then?
Donna: I will-- I will love you no matter what my husband does. I want you in my life.
Marcus: Do you really mean that? You sure?
Donna: (Sobs) Look, Marcus, I kn-- I know it's hard for you to understand why I gave you up when--when you were born. I wouldn't have been a good mother to you. I wouldn't have. But I want to-- I want to be a good mother to you now. Could you just-- could you just give me a chance, please? It's in your hands, Marcus. Just--just stay here with me. Please. (Sobs)
Katie: (Sighs) Save the funeral for after I'm dead. I don't want tears, and I don't want pity. Now if you don't mind, I think I really want to be by myself. I think I'm just gonna go to bed.
Bridget: Is there anything that I can get you?
Katie: No, I'm fine, relatively speaking. (Groans) (Sighs) (Moans)
Nick: Easy there, Ginger.
Katie: I'm okay. I'm okay.
Nick: Why don't you let me help you up those stairs?
Katie: Okay. Okay.
Brooke: I don't know how she does it.
Bridget: I guess she's just a-a really tough lady.
Brooke: It really kills me to think of everything that she's gonna miss out on-- marriage, children, falling in love with a wonderful man.
Bridget: I think she has a crush on Nick, if that means anything.
Bridget: She spends a lot of time with him.
Brooke: How do you feel about that?
Bridget: It's sweet. I'm not threatened, if that's what you're wondering. I think it's good for her. I'm pretty sure she treasures the time she spends with him.
Brooke: (Sniffles) We need to make every second count.
Brooke: We need to... (sighs) fill her life with joy, happiness.
Bridget: (Sobbing) (sniffles) Well, we will. (Sniffles) we will, you and--and me and Nick. We can, the whole family. We--we can do this. We can make sure that every single second counts, Mom.
Bridget: (Sobbing) I promise.
Marcus: You want me to stay, knowing what that would cost you?
Donna: Look, you are so important to me-- my son. Just give me a ch--a chance to heal some of the pain you've suffered.
Marcus: You, um, you don't know this. There's no way you would. But back in Texas, I was kind of a basketball phenom-- leading scorer on my high school team. It wasn't a big school or anything, but I was still the star. I mean, everywhere I went, you know, people knew me, especially the ladies.
Marcus: But the guys-- the other basketball players from the other squads-- well, they didn't like me so much. You see, they knew that if they can stop me, they can stop my entire team. You see, my focus was one thing-- get that ball, go straight to the cup.
Donna: I-I wish I-I had a chance to see you play.
Marcus: You like basketball?
Donna: (Laughs) Are you kidding me? It--it's my favorite. I mean, it runs in my family.
Marcus: You know, I thought Texas was gonna go all the way in the NCAAs this year.
Donna: Y-your a fan? Oh, wow, that--that's some tattoo.
Marcus: Yeah, I thought it'd be for my team, too.
Donna: Wait, you--you wanted to play in college? You wanted to play for Texas?
Marcus: Oh, yeah, I wanted to real bad. I mean, I could've, too, you know? You see, I know some of those guys. I play ball with 'em. I worked my butt off to get into U.T. No scholarship, though. You see, when you go to a small school, it's all about politics. So I was just gonna walk on. Would've, too, but I didn't get in.
Donna: Why not?
Marcus: College costs. We didn't have it at the time. Anyway, you see, basketball taught me that if you want something, you gotta make it happen. You see, out there on that court, I had one mission, one thing that mattered.
Donna: You know, I bet you were an amazing player.
Marcus: I do all right.
Donna: No. No, you were better than that. (Laughs)
Marcus: So I got out of school. I wasn't sure where my life was headed next. But you know, there was always one thing I couldn't get my mind off of-- you. Just wanted to meet my birth mom, just to see you, just to look in your eyes again.
Donna: Now you did.
Marcus: Well, not what I expected.
Donna: Yeah, I'm--I'm sure of that.
Marcus: You know, you're a-a lot warmer and nicer. Didn't expect you to welcome me in open arms, try to find a place for me in your life.
Donna: I want that. I want that, Marcus, for you, for--for us.
Marcus: I'm scared.
Donna: You know what? I am, too. But we can make this work. You know, I-I can give you something, Marcus. I can give you a chance for a new life. I mean, Forrester Creations. We can do this. We can make this happen.
Marcus: Look, I don't want to mess things up for you. Maybe it's just best if I just go.
Donna: No, I don't want that. You don't want that, do you? Look, why don't-- why don't you just stay? Stay here in L.A. Just give it--give it a chance. Give me a chance.
Donna: God, thank you. (Laughs) this is gonna work. I mean, it--it's gonna work. We can make this work.
Bridget: Is she gonna be able to get some sleep?
Nick: She seems pretty wiped out.
Brooke: Bridget and I were talking, and we agreed that the time that Katie has left has to be incredibly special.
Nick: Well, I'm in complete agreement with that.
Bridget: Good, I'm glad because I think that you're the key to that happening.
Bridget: 'Cause she adores you, Nick. (Sniffles) You know that. I think she treasures the time that you spend together, and when she's with you, some of her worries are able to just float away, at least for the time being.
Brooke: It's true.
Bridget: (Sniffles) I just want these last... few days of Katie's life to be the best that they can be. And we're-- we're gonna all do whatever we can. But just promise me that... (inhales sharply) promise me that you'll-- you'll spend as much time with her as you can and make--make this the most wonderful time of her life.
Nick: Well, it's pretty amazing of you that you would want that for her.
Bridget: I love her. I-I love her, Nick.
Brooke: We all do very much.
Bridget: You know, there's... (sniffles) there's gonna be a lot that she's missing out on, so much happiness that she's never, ever gonna know.
Brooke: Whatever time she has left, we have to make sure that we fill it with joy.
Bridget: So w-will you do this?
Nick: (Clears throat) Well, I'm honored that, uh, that you would even think that I could do this.
Bridget: She trusts you, honey. She loves you. Help her enjoy this time as--as only you can.
Nick: (Exhales deeply)
Nick: I'll do whatever I can. But you gotta help me with one thing. And that's the why. That girl never did anything to hurt anyone, yet she's the one dying. And I see the pain and the love in your faces. And you're asking me-- you're asking me to give her that love. So my answer's yes. I will do whatever I can, and I will give her whatever she needs or wants with whatever time she has left. And I will make sure that she feels joy and that she feels the happiness she needs to feel. (Sighs) I give you my word.
