Nick: (Sighs) (Sighs)
Bridget: Honey, what is it?
Nick: Doesn't it feel a little weird to you that there's company in the house?
Bridget: There's not company in the house. Katie and Donna are family.
Bridget: But it's a really big house. No one can hear anything.
Nick: Have you ever heard you?
Bridget: Do you want to hear me?
Katie: Okay. Let's just back up for a second.
Donna: I already told you everything, Katie.
Katie: Except who the father is.
Donna: Katie, it was so long ago. It's totally irrelevant now.
Katie: You had a baby and gave it up for adoption, and I'm just supposed to say, "Oh, that's interesting," and not ask any questions?
Donna: You know, you're-- you're starting to make me regret saying anything.
Katie: Donna, you obviously needed someone to confide in. I'm glad you confided in me.
Donna: Now that I have, will you--will you please stop judging me?
Katie: Honey, I'm not judging you.
Donna: (Voice cracking) I can hear it in your voice, Katie. You think I'm terrible.
Katie: No. No, don't. Please, don't put words in my mouth.
Donna: But you don't-- you don't understand why I did what I did.
Katie: That must have been so hard.
Donna: (Sobbing) It was a difficult time.
Katie: I can't imagine. I can't imagine what it must be like to have to give up your baby, your own flesh and blood.
Donna: (Sobs) I did what I thought was best for him. Katie, I wasn't prepared to be a mother then. I mean, was it a sacrifice? Yes. (Sobbing) it hurts like hell. (Sobs) But what kind of life was-- was I gonna give him? I couldn't do that. I couldn't do that to him.
Taylor: I wasn't expecting you until tomorrow.
Phoebe: Well, lucky for me, I got in early.
Rick: Phoebe, this is not what it looks like.
Phoebe: Excuse me. I'm not that naive. Mom was seducing you.
Rick: No. No, she wasn't.
Taylor: Please, now just let me explain what--
Phoebe: No, there's no explanation for this.
Rick: Yes, there is. Phoebe, you need to know the truth.
Phoebe: You offered to help her as a friend because she needed someone to be on her side. But you thought it was more, didn't you? You invited him up here and--and lit all these candles.
Rick: Your mother did not light these candles. I did.
Phoebe: You and mom? (Gasps) I can't believe this. (Sobbing) I mean, what about us?
Rick: Phoebe, there is no "us." There hasn't been an "us" in a very long time.
Phoebe: But I told you how I felt before I went on my trip.
Rick: I know. And I wanted to be nothing but honest with you, okay? But you-- Phoebe, you left unexpectedly, and I-I-I wasn't gonna e-mail you or call you and tell you this on the phone.
Phoebe: (Sobbing) Well, what would you have said? That what we shared never meant anything? That you were completely over me?
Rick: No. No, ab-absolutely not. No, I would have told you that--that time had passed, and--and you were going to college, and you were getting on with your life, and I was getting on with mine.
Phoebe: With my mother?! (Sobs) I just thought you were helping her through a bad time.
Taylor: He was. He was.
Rick: Phoebe, that's how it started.
Taylor: Phoebe, we knew that we needed to talk to you about this, but what you just walked in on, nothing had happened. We--we decided to wait until you got back so we could tell you what this was all about.
Phoebe: I think I have some idea.
Rick: No, you really don't. That's why you need to listen to us.
Taylor: But Rick-- he's been here for me. He's--he's been so supportive, and he's been so kind, and he's been comforting. And we just-- we got close. We got close, and it was something that was just completely unexpected.
Rick: Look, Phoebe, when I--when I finally realized how I felt, I... I was the one who was-- who was pushing our relationship to--to be more than just friends, okay? Your mother wanted nothing to do with it, okay? Because she didn't want to hurt you. That's the truth. But the bottom line is, Phoebe, we've fallen in love with each other.
Phoebe: (Sobs) wh-- (sobbing)
Taylor: Phoebe, baby.
Phoebe: Don't touch me! (Sobs)
Bridget: Mm. Oh... stop. Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop. (Sighs)
Nick: What--what-- what's wrong with you now?
Bridget: Oh, I forgot something. I have to put that Vitamin E on Katie's scar.
Nick: Vitamin E? Can't that wait till the morning?
Bridget: (Breathing heavily) well, yeah, but I should probably do it right now. It would be better.
Nick: Well... that's being a good doctor.
Bridget: Okay. I hope you don't mind.
Nick: I really mind.
Bridget: Okay, good. Mm. I'll be right back. I'll be right back.
Nick: I'll be right here.
Nick: I'll be right here.
Donna: If there's some way I could know for sure, Katie...
Katie: If this young man is the child that you gave up so many years ago?
Donna: After what I said today, I... I may never see him again.
Katie: (Sighs) Donna, I don't know. Maybe that's not a bad thing.
Katie: Hi. What are you doing down here? Aren't you supposed to be upstairs?
Bridget: Um, yeah, well, I-I needed to give you this. It's Vitamin E, so you should put it on your scar. It's gonna really help it.
Katie: Okay. But it could have waited till tomorrow. You could have just put it on my dresser in the morning.
Bridget: Well, it's better. It'll help it heal if you make sure you put it on tonight, and I needed to get Jack his bottle anyway.
Donna: He's so precious.
Bridget: Wait until midnight when you have the early shift. Not so precious.
Donna: Do you think I can help feed him?
Bridget: Yeah, I'll go get his bottle. I'll--I'll be right back. Of course you can.
Donna: (Quietly) Katie, what I told you-- you have to promise me that it stays in this room. Promise.
Katie: Of course. Yes.
Donna: Eric's family can never find out.
Katie: You think they would hold it against you?
Donna: Katie, they would have a field day with it. Come on. I'm not gonna give 'em that kind of ammunition. I just--I can't. I won't let that happen.
Bridget: So just lift him up and gently pat him on his back.
Donna: Okay, like that?
Bridget: There you go, yeah.
Donna: Oh, my--
Bridget: Mission accomplished.
Donna: That's so cute.
Bridget: Very good.
Bridget: You're really good at this. You can come over and feed jack whenever you want. I would leave the silk blouse at home, but...
Donna: Good advice. Well, I'm not a pro like you are. Oh, look. Look, somebody's sleepy.
Bridget: Yeah, it's past his bedtime. I should put him down. Or you could. Go--go put him down. He can go to bed with a bottle.
Bridget: It's okay.
Donna: Okay. Yeah, come here. Come here. Oh. (Coos) there you go. That's so sweet.
Bridget: He is, isn't he?
Donna: Does he know who his mom is?
Bridget: What do you mean?
Donna: Well, I don't know. There's, um-- there's Taylor and Brooke. Now you. I mean, all these women taking such good care of him. Can he tell you apart? I mean, is there-- is there some kind of natural instinct?
Bridget: You know, all that Jack's gonna have to sort out on his own, and he will eventually. The most important thing for him right now is that he's loved.
Phoebe: In love? R-Rick is barely older than Thomas.
Rick: Phoebe, age has nothing to do with this.
Phoebe: Oh, really? First Ashley and now my mother. I mean, it's wrong. Am I the only person who sees that?
Taylor: No, you're not. You're not. And I-I thought the same thing at first. I thought there was no way this could ever work. I don't know why, but there's something there. There's a bond that-- and it's been growing. And it gets stronger every day.
Phoebe: Well, how does your mother feel about this?
Rick: She's not exactly thrilled.
Phoebe: Yeah, of course she isn't, considering her history with you.
Taylor: Phoebe-- Phoebe, listen to me. This has nothing, nothing at all to do with Brooke. It doesn't at all, and the last thing I wanted to do was hurt you.
Taylor: And I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry that you had to find out this way. I wanted to tell you myself, but I didn't get a chance.
Rick: Phoebe, it is important that-- that you understand the situation. Otherwise, your mother and I cannot have a future together.
Phoebe: A future? What are you talking about?
Rick: I've-- (sighs) I've asked your mother to marry me.
Nick: Well, that kid of mine is some ladies' man. Got two beautiful women feeding him, not just one.
Katie: Yeah, he's, um-- he's--he--he's a real charmer. He must take after his dad.
Nick: Bridget told me she was gonna bring down this Vitamin E oil for you.
Katie: I told her that it could have waited till tomorrow.
Nick: Physician, heal thy aunt.
Katie: Right. She's amazing.
Nick: Yes, she is.
Katie: You're pretty terrific, too. It's really kind of you to let me stay here.
Nick: Well, you're gonna have to earn your keep.
Katie: Yeah, well, um, anything I can do physically. Just let me know. I just hope that you and Bridget are really gonna be happy. I hope you know that.
Nick: I do. Thank you.
Donna: Master Jack's sound asleep.
Nick: Tummy full?
Donna: Well, I saw to it personally.
Nick: You see? A way to a man's heart is through his stomach, not matter how few teeth he has.
Donna: Well, I-I really do have to get going. Um, we'll talk later?
Katie: Yeah, absolutely. I love you.
Donna: Love you.
Nick: See you, Donna.
Nick: I know that you're in pain. If you'd like me to help you put this on, I will.
Katie: No, I can do it. I can do it.
Phoebe: You and I were in love, and now you want to marry my mother?
Rick: Yes, I do.
Phoebe: Did you say yes?
Taylor: No, not--not yet. Not until I talked to you.
Phoebe: No, but you want to.
Taylor: Phoebe, if we had your blessing, yes.
Phoebe: My blessing? This isn't some kind of beautiful romance.
Phoebe: No, you can say that it's pure and wonderful and--and--and loving, but I know what kind of state you were in. I mean, Rick felt sorry for you, and wouldn't have? You were pathetic. Wow, what a great way to start a marriage. Bravo, mother. Phoebe! Look, just listen to me for a second, okay? Do you-- do you remember when-- when your father was trying so hard to come between us? Please don't do that right now. You broke up with me. You said that we were in different places in our lives. That--that-- that you weren't ready, and I accepted that. I understood that. And I had to move on with my life, as devastated as I was. And you know what? Beyond my control, it led me down a path that I least anticipated. Your mother and I-- Taylor and I have something very special. I'm begging of you, please accept that.
Phoebe: In life, you have one first love. And even if it doesn't go anywhere, it's supposed to be a great memory. And I don't have that now. Mom, tell him this is over. This can't happen. Tell him!
Rick: Taylor, don't do it.
Taylor: It's over.
Taylor: I love you, Rick. I do. But Phoebe is my daughter. I can't do this to her. I'm not going to hurt her. We have to end it. It's finished.
Rick: No, this relationship is not finished.
Rick: It's gonna go on. I'm not gonna accept that.
Taylor: No. No, it is over. I'm not hurting my daughter. I want to be with her alone right now, okay? Just go. Please, go.
Taylor: It's over, okay?
Taylor: Sweetheart, it's over. I'm sorry. (Sobbing) I'm so, so sorry! I'm so sorry.
Nick: I don't mean to make you uncomfortable.
Katie: You don't. It's okay.
Nick: You know, Katie, the life I live now isn't the life I've known. I've seen men die. I've seen many scars on the inside and out.
Katie: I guess I've lived a sheltered life.
Nick: All I'm saying is that it's a lot harder for you to look at a scar like that than it is for me.
Katie: (Whispers) Go. Go.
