Brooke: Where did this come from?
Bridget: It was in the room where w-we found Storm. It's the same paper that we keep in all the patients' rooms.
Donna: So that means he wrote it right before he...
Donna: Should we-- should we open it, or...
Brooke: It--it wasn't meant for us, so I-I think I would feel strange opening it.
Donna: We can't just hand it to her. I mean, with her thinking it says, "I-I love you. I'll see you this afternoon." We don't know what he wrote. We do know that he wasn't himself.
Bridget: (Sobbing) so how are we supposed to tell Katie that she's waking up with her brother's heart? (Sighs)
Woman: (Speaks indistinctly)
Eric: So Katie got through the transplant okay?
Ridge: Well, through the surgery. This is only the beginning. She's gonna be on those anti-rejection drugs for the rest of her life.
Stephanie: Oh, my God. This is so sad. Does anyone know why he wanted to kill himself?
Ridge: Brooke and Donna seem to feel that he intended to give Katie his heart.
Eric: My God.
(Elevator bell dings)
Ridge: That's why he did what he did.
Stephanie: Well, I suppose whatever it takes for them to find some comfort in all of this... but I thought he threatened Ashley as well. Oh. Didn't he threaten you?
Ashley: It's a long story, Stephanie, but Katie actually misunderstood what she saw.
Stephanie: What's to misunderstand, someone waving a gun in your face?
Ashley: It's a long story. Anyway, how is Katie doing this morning?
Ridge: Nobody's seen her, but the, uh, nurse said she had an okay night.
Stephanie: You know, if I had turned him in to the police when I wanted to instead of letting his sisters talk me out of this, that young woman wouldn't even be here.
Ridge: I'm the one that told Lt. Baker that Storm shot you because I felt it was something that had to be done.
Eric: Well, it hardly matters now.
Ridge: It's gonna matter to Brooke. I'm the one that fired him. I'm the one that told the police to come down here and arrest him. I just hope to God she understands.
Donna: Are we ever gonna be able to see her?
Bridget: Yeah, yeah. We're just taking all the precautions we possibly can. The dangers are that she could get infected after surgery or the heart won't take. So it's a balancing act trying to make sure those two things don't happen.
Dr. Patrick: Dr. Forrester.
Bridget: Oh, hi, doctor.
Brooke: Dr. Patrick, how is she?
Dr. Patrick: We're weaning her off the sedative and testing her respiration to see if the breathing tube can be removed.
Donna: Well, that's good, I-isn't it?
Dr. Patrick: Yes. It's safe to be pleased.
Brooke: (Sighs) We can't thank you enough for everything that you've done for her.
Dr. Patrick: Here's how I want you to thank me. Don't undo all our good work. Before even walking onto the ward, wash your hands with soap and water for a full minute.
Brooke: Bridget told us.
Dr. Patrick: And when you enter or leave her room, use this hand sanitizer. Do not touch her incision or I.V. line or any equipment that's physically attached. Put on one of these gowns over whatever you're wearing and drop it in here on your way out. If you have a cough or even a scratchy throat, stay away until it's gone.
Dr. Patrick: How long have you been here.
Bridget: Oh, they've been here since she was first admitted.
Dr. Patrick: Then I'd like to have you both shower and change before you come back.
Brooke: Oh, okay. So we should do that now?
Dr. Patrick: Well, I assume you'd like to be there when she wakes up.
Donna: Well, yes. Of--of course.
Dr. Patrick: I'll be back to check on her later.
Bridget: Thank you, doctor. Okay, ladies, to the showers.
Donna: It's your turn.
Bridget: Well, while you're in there, I'm gonna go check on my patients.
Brooke: (Sighs) One of us really needs to call our parents.
Donna: Yeah. Well, I tried Mom, but, um, I mean, no luck. I-I-I can't just leave a message like that.
Brooke: What about Dad? Is he in Paris?
Donna: I don't know. I don't know, but, uh, I'll try when you're in the shower, okay?
Ridge: You're wet.
Donna: Well, we're-- we're going to see Katie.
Brooke: (Sighs) Everything in Katie's room needs to be squeaky-clean, so we're showering.
Ridge: Mind if I come along? I could use a shower, as well.
Brooke: Not just yet. I-I think I'd like to see Katie first.
Ridge: (Sighs) Logan, how angry with me are you?
Brooke: Well, it's kind of hard for me to think how down you were on my brother.
Ridge: I know. I-I imagine it must be. Hard for me, too.
Brooke: I know that you were just doing it to be protective, but what bothered me the most with it-- you wanted to make decisions without me, and you wanted Storm out of our lives. Now he is.
Brooke: Look, I... (sighs) I didn't mean for that to sound... (sighs) the way it did. (Sighs) I love you. (Sighs) I don't want to blame anybody for this. (Sighs) (sniffles)
Nick: I got enough food to feed the entire floor. Where is everybody?
Eric: Donna says that she and Brooke are gonna be able to see Katie soon.
Nick: She's awake?
Eric: I don't think so.
Woman: Dr. Blair. Dr. Blair.
Donna: Dad, um, I have been trying to get a hold of you, and I-I can't. Um... (sniffles) I, uh... I'm--I'm sorry to leave this message on your ph-phone, but, uh, I'm at-- at the University Hospital with Brooke. Katie--she-- she had to have major surgery, and--and-- and Storm--he, uh-- he was--he was involved. Um, could you please just come as--as soon as possible? We really need you. I love you. Bye.
Woman: Dr. Davis, telephone, please. Dr. David, telephone, please.
Eric: Have you had any rest? Is anyone taking care of you?
Donna: (Sighs) you are, just--just being here.
Donna: Look, I know it seems like I'm ignoring you, but--
Eric: No, no, no, no. You know what? You need to see Katie.
Stephanie: Donna? I'm so sorry for your family's loss.
Donna: Thank you.
Stephanie: Um, look, Felicia went over to the house, so tell Brooke not to worry about the children, okay?
Stephanie: And tell your sister we're praying for her.
Donna: Okay, I'll let her know. Thanks.
Brooke: Oh, hi.
Donna: Is--is somebody in there with her, or--
Brooke: Yeah, the nurse just changed her dressing. Here, put this on.
Donna: Well, did--did she say we can't go in, or...
Brooke: No, I was waiting for you.
Donna: Just don't-- don't touch anything.
Donna: She looks kind of good, doesn't she? I mean... (sighs) Remember how pale she was?
Brooke: Katie? Honey, we're here.
Brooke: You're okay. (Sobs) Hi.
Donna: Hey, beautiful.
Brooke: You had to have surgery, but you're gonna be okay now, sweetheart.
Bridget: Honey, it's-- it's gonna hurt you to talk, so I-I don't-- I don't want you to try yet. They put a tube in you so you can breathe, and it abrades-- abrades the throat sometimes.
Bridget: What do you-- um, I bet you want some water.
Bridget: Maybe you can get some ice chips. I'm gonna go check on that for her. I'll be right back.
Brooke: What, Katie? What--what is it?
Katie: (Inhales sharply)
Donna: Do you want-- do you want me to get the nurse or something?
Brooke: Well, then what-- what do you want?
Katie: (Raspy voice) Storm.
Bridget: Oh, hi.
Bridget: Hi, Dad. Hey. How does she seem?
Bridget: She, um-- she seems really good. She's going through-- I mean, I-I'm pretty sure she's, you know, in a little bit of pain, but we deal with that all right here, so...
Stephanie: Does she have any idea what's happened? Well, no, I suppose not. How could she?
Bridget: Yeah, I-- oh, goodness. I don't think she's gonna be able to talk that much for the next couple days.
Stephanie: You can't wait a couple of days to tell her, though.
Bridget: Stephanie, I'm-- my mom and Donna will know when the time is right for that.
Eric: Of course they will.
Man: (Speaking indistinctly)
Nick: You were the unsung hero in all of this.
Bridget: Oh, goodness, no.
Nick: You are, and I'm gonna make sure everybody knows that.
Stephanie: Katie isn't going to wait two days to ask about her brother. She isn't gonna wait ten minutes.
Eric: They are all overwhelmed right now.
Stephanie: I'm sorry if I said the wrong thing.
Eric: No, it's all right. I think it's pretty big of you to be here at all right now. Sometimes I forget how sensitive you can be.
Stephanie: Oh. Well, thank you. Sometimes you do.
Donna: Oh, and your surgeon Dr. Patrick-- I mean, he is such a wonderful man.
Brooke: Yeah, you'll see him. He said he'll be back.
Donna: But I think it's outrageous that you look better than us.
Donna: I mean, everyone's gonna want a heart transplant now.
Brooke: (Laughs) it's true. You are hogging the bedside. Move it!
Donna: No, you had your turn.
Brooke: Come on, let me get close to her. Come on!
Bridget: Hello. Can we stand one more visitor?
Bridget: Come on in. Just don't touch anything.
Nick: I don't like the outfits you have to wear to come and see you.
Bridget: Um, they said you can have ice chips. Do you want one right now?
Brooke: You don't have to talk. We know it's hard.
Katie: (Moans) (raspy voice) wasn't... Storm's fault.
Brooke: What do you mean? When the gun went off?
Katie: (Sobbing) tell him. (Moans) and he's a-- a-afraid?
Brooke: Of you? No. No, sweetheart. Of course not.
Brooke: He left this for you.
Eric: (Sighs) well, nobody has come out yet.
Stephanie: They're telling her. I don't think they have a choice.
Eric: Yeah, probably not.
Stephanie: If I were her, I'd be furious.
Eric: That your brother saved your life?
Stephanie: That he would do such a thing. She would never ask him to do something like that. She wouldn't consent to something like that. Think about it. How would you like to live the rest of your life with the weight of a sacrifice of that on your shoulders. How do you get over something like this?
Eric: I think you're wrong. At first, she'll probably experience some guilt and regret. But eventually she'll come to accept the love that her brother showed her and make her peace with it.
Stephanie: If you want to call that love.
Eric: You know, if somebody had asked me if I believed this extreme story without any of the names or relationships attached, if I could accept it, I would say yes. I know someone who loves like that. I think you and Storm probably had more in common than you think.
Brooke: It's okay, Katie. You can read it another time.
Katie: You read it now.
Bridget: Maybe, maybe you should while we're all here together.
Brooke: "My sweet, Katie. Do you remember when you were little, the way you and Donna played house? She'd make you dandelion meat loaf and say it was time you got married, and you'd come ask if you could marry me. And she'd make the dog sit up and marry us. And we'd promise to stay together forever. It makes me happy to keep that promise I'm sorry for the pain you're in in. Sorry for all the times I let you down. And Brooke and Donna, too. But that's not going to happen again. I'll be closer than your own skin. I'll be doing what my heart knows how to do. Without my head screwing it up. Don't be angry with me. Or not for too long. Your sisters aren't as tough as we are. They're going to need us. I think I have to finish now. There's more to say, but we'll be together soon. I'll be the whisper in your ear. Love, Storm."
Katie: So --
Brooke: That was yesterday.
Donna: He -- can't --
Katie: Where's Storm? Where's Storm? Brooke --
Brooke: He's with you now, sweetheart. He's with you.
Katie: Where's Storm? Where's Storm? [Labored breathing]
Brooke: He's with you.
Katie: Where's Storm? [Labored breathing]
Brooke: (Sobbing) [Crying]
