Nick: So you're impressed with me?
Katie: Don't make light of it.
Nick: Oh, please, I'm not. I-I feel like I'm in a very exclusive club. I-I don't believe you say that to just anybody. I-I'm honored.
Nick: Excuse me.
Man: Mr. Marone?
Man: Sign here, please.
Nick: Thank you. There. Thank you.
Man: Thank you.
Nick: It's from my wife's attorney.
Katie: Is it about Jack?
Nick: It's Taylor's psychiatric evaluation.
Felicia: Yeah, Dr. Crocker, please. It's an emergency.
Pam: It's okay. It's okay. Why won't you look at me, Tiny?
Felicia: Dr. Crocker, hi. I'm calling for Pamela Douglas. I'm her niece. Yes, Tiny is her dog. Well, actually, um, we're pretty sure that Tiny ate something or was fed something.
Donna: Lemon bars-- that's all.
Felicia: And he's collapsed. He's not responding at all. You would? That--that would be great. You know where Forrester Creations is on South Haragate? Okay, well, I'll have somebody meet you out front. Thank you. She's on her way.
Pam: Oh, did you hear that, sweetheart?
Donna: I'm sure he'll be fine.
Taylor: Thank you very much for understanding. I'm sorry. Yes, if you call my office in the morning, I'm sure they can reschedule. We'll find something that'll work for you. Okay. Again, I'm very sorry I had to move the--the appointment, okay? Thank you. Bye-bye. Oh. Ohh! (Sighs heavily)
Rick: I made us some sandwiches. I was starving. What's wrong? Are you okay?
Taylor: You know, it's okay for a patient to be a no-show or cancel an appointment, but God forbid the therapist do it. Mm.
Rick: Why you taking the day off?
Taylor: I just--I don't feel like I'm in a very good place to be helping people sort through their lives right now.
Rick: Well, fine. That's a great reason. Just take the day off then.
Taylor: I am.
Rick: But look, you--you can't think of yourself or talk about yourself the way, you know, the way my mom and--and--and Nick do. You miss your son. That's it. It's okay. (Doorbell rings)
Rick: I'll get it.
Man: Good evening.
Rick: Thank you. It's from your attorney.
Man: Any signature will do.
Rick: Oh, okay. Here. Can I borrow your pen? Thanks.
Rick: Thank you.
Man: Thank you.
Rick: You have a good night.
Man: You, too.
Taylor: I know what that is.
Rick: What is it?
Taylor: That is my court-ordered psychological evaluation.
Rick: Well, here, go ahead.
Taylor: No, you look, please.
Nick: Thank God. "Responsible, mature daily corrective choices made under extreme emotional difficulty." She got a thumbs-up from the court-appointed shrink. The hearing continues tomorrow.
Katie: Well, then I guess things could change.
Nick: Keeping her away from her son's the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Let's just hope that she's capable of dealing with this and getting her personal life together again.
Katie: I don't think Brooke is gonna like this.
Nick: All Brooke wants is what's best for Jack.
Katie: Are you sure about that? (Knock on door)
Brooke: Hello? Oh. I've been waiting and waiting for you to call.
Nick: Call about what?
Brooke: Wasn't Taylor's psychiatric assessment supposed to be filed today?
Nick: It just arrived.
Brooke: What does it say?
Pam: (Whispering) Tiny, sweetheart?
(Cell phone rings)
Thorne: This is Thorne. Oh, great. Transfer the call. Doctor, hey, are you close? Oh. No, no, no, no, the dog is completely unresponsive, and my aunt is terrified. (Exhales deeply) no, we haven't tried that. Great, you're in the parking lot? Okay, do me a favor. Give the valet your keys, and I'll have security bring you up, okay? And please hurry.
Pam: (Whispering) It's okay, sweetheart. Tiny.
Pam: (Sighs heavily)
Pam: You examined him?
Dr. Crocker: Yes.
Pam: Tell me what's happening. What's happening with him?
Dr. Crocker: Okay, try to stay calm, and tell me what happened.
Thorne: Well, only Donna really knows.
Pam: Yeah, and she's lying.
Donna: Wh-if anything, he overate. That's all.
Dr. Crocker: Overate what?
Donna: Pam makes these lemon bars by the hundred, okay?
Dr. Crocker: What about them?
Donna: The dog doesn't like me. He's been taught not to. And the dog had me cornered. I didn't know what to do. So I-I-I threw some lemon bars at him to distract him. That's it.
Felicia: And it made him very sick. I'm sure you could smell the disinfectant outside.
Dr. Crocker: Well, it could be overeating, or have you been giving him the medicine that I prescribed?
Pam: Well, at night I have. In the daytime, I can't here because then he wants to go out all the time.
Dr. Crocker: Miss Douglas, I told you that this...
Dr. Crocker: Was a very serious--
Pam: I know what you said-- that he's got a big heart. But I'm telling you, he was totally fine this afternoon.
Dr. Crocker: Well, dilated cardiomyopathy is a very serious condition. I thought you understood that that was--
Pam: I know, you--you told me that it's common in big breeds. But he was fine. He's gonna be fine, right? Right?
Rick: Taylor, do you know what this means?
Taylor: So then the hearing resumes tomorrow?
Rick: You're gonna have your custody rights reinstated. Yeah, is that-- that's what you wanted.
Taylor: It's just really strange. You know, I mean, here I am, I'm in this big house all alone, and the house is completely prepared for a baby. I've got a brand-new nursery here that has no baby in it. And it takes a messenger showing up with a letter declaring that I'm sane to get him to move back in with me. (Sighs) never again am I going to let myself get put in that position for other people to have that kind of power over me. (Scoffs)
Brooke: That's it?
Nick: It answers the question that was asked.
Brooke: (Laughs) Well, doesn't it seem a little superficial? Taylor hasn't even accepted the fact that I'm Jack's biological mother.
Nick: Well, obviously, the court-appointed shrink discussed it with her.
Brooke: And what about Rick? It doesn't even mention that relationship in there either.
Nick: This is a professional opinion. It's not an expose.
Brooke: Of one psychiatrist by another. Don't you think that Taylor knows the buzzwords and what subjects to avoid?
Nick: Well, whose opinion should we be going by here, Brooke? Yours?
Brooke: I'm just saying it's a complicated situation with a complicated history. I don't see how a 1- or 2-hour conversation is going to help anything.
Katie: That's what the experts are for.
Brooke: She is carrying on with my son. Does that strike either one of you as a sane thing to do? I mean, other people may notice the age difference, but we all know that that's the least bizarre thing about this. Taylor's only doing it because of her anger for me. And all it's gonna do is hurt little Jack.
Nick: She would never do anything to deliberately hurt that boy.
Brooke: (Sighs) Well, would she do anything deliberately? First she falls in love with you, and then she takes up with my son. She can't connect with her little baby, and then she can't live without him. Look, Nick, I know that you care about her, but it's time that you see that maybe Taylor's done all that she can do for Jack. It's time to let go.
Taylor: I don't know how to think of you.
Rick: Well, don't think too hard. I mean, I'm pretty transparent. (Laughs)
Taylor: (Laughs) No, I was trying to say I don't know how to thank you, but something else came out.
Taylor: But it is because of you because all of this is happening.
Rick: No, no, don't--don't think that way.
Taylor: Yes, no, I was willing to believe what everybody else was saying about me-- that I didn't deserve to be a mother and that I would just sit there and say to myself, "Yeah, I'll just drink my sorry life away."
Rick: Oh, I-I-it hurts me when you talk like that. It really does.
Taylor: You know, that's another thing I'm not going to allow anyone to do-- to tell me that you don't belong in my life.
Rick: Listen to me, you really have to stop defending us, okay? We--we can't change the way people think about us. And the way people feel about each other is--is a part of it. I mean, can we honestly say that the way we feel about each other has nothing to do with my mother?
Brooke: You should keep sole custody.
Nick: That was an emergency measure.
Brooke: Well, all that proves is that Taylor can feed herself and dress herself and fool other psychiatrists.
Nick: Brooke, it wouldn't be healthy for me to raise this boy alone.
Brooke: You won't be alone. You know that.
Nick: Maybe I won't.
Brooke: (Sighs) Look, I have feelings for Jack, feelings that any mother would have for him. And I-I'm not gonna deny that anymore. And if Taylor could prove to be the same person from week to week, then maybe I would consider keeping my distance, but she can't.
Nick: What are you suggesting exactly? That I share custody with you?
Brooke: Well, no official rules have to be made right now, but I mean, would that be so crazy?
Nick: (Laughs) And the next sound you hear would be the door slamming right behind Forrester on his way out.
Brooke: No, Ridge has already made concessions.
Nick: Oh, has he? Are one of those concessions you raising Jack with me?
Brooke: Look, this isn't even about Ridge and me. This is about saving and protecting our child. And Taylor isn't a good person for him. Come on, you know what he needs. He needs to be in a dependable home with people who love him and want to protect him, gonna be there, they're gonna be patient, consistent. And he has that right here in this very room.
Brooke: What? Am I wrong?
Katie: No, you're not wrong.
Dr. Crocker: I'm sorry.
Pam: No. No! (Crying)
Dr. Crocker: Congestive heart failure would be my guess.
Pam: No, but he was fine this afternoon.
Dr. Crocker: Uh, how was his breathing?
Pam: It--it was-- it's hot in here. It--it--he--
Thorne: He was really panting. He really was.
Dr. Crocker: Well, even properly medicated, cardiomyopathy can be difficult to treat in some dogs.
Pam: (Crying) He can't be gone. (Sniffles) He's all I have. I never knew what it was to be loved before him.
Dr. Crocker: I'm so sorry.
Dr. Crocker: Can I talk to one of you about making arrangements?
Thorne: Yeah, I'll deal with that.
Felicia: Aunt Pam, you gave Tiny a long, wonderful life.
Pam: I thought he'd be here-- (sobbing) you--you--you killed my Tiny.
Donna: Pam, I-I know how terrible you must feel. I am truly sorry.
Pam: You haven't begun to be sorry.
Donna: Okay, I-I don't really think we should talk right now. It's--I don't want to fight.
Pam: No, you just wanted my dog dead.
Donna: Pam, you heard the vet. It--it was his heart.
Pam: Nothing was wrong with him until he was left alone with you, Donna.
Donna: Okay, do--do we really have to get into this now?
Pam: Yes! You just love to run away from all the damage you cause, don't you? Well, you know what? This time you've gone too far.
Donna: Pam, y-you heard Dr. Crocker. She as much as said it was--it was a lack of medication.
Pam: What did you really give him, Donna? You didn't just give him lemon bars. You poisoned him, didn't you?
Donna: No, no, no, Pam, it--it--it was what you didn't give him-- his medication.
Pam: You're blaming me?
Donna: No, no, no, no, no. Look, it happened, and it's-- it's sad, okay? But--but there's really no need to blame anyone.
Pam: (Exhales deeply)
Donna: Look, I am--I am truly sorry for your loss. Will you please accept it?
Pam: (Inhales sharply) Never.
Brooke: What if Taylor has Rick move in with her? You know, I wouldn't put it past her.
Nick: Brooke, who Taylor is or isn't sleeping with really isn't the issue here. I know you're not happy that she's with your grown son, and I'm not crazy about it either, but that's not a psychiatric symptom. Now you've made your point. Let's just let this rest for tonight.
Brooke: No, no, we can't. That would be too late. Tomorrow is the hearing. Nick, you think I'm doing this to be selfish, but I'm not. You need to keep custody of Jack and only you.
Nick: How do I justify that, Brooke? I know you want what's best for the baby, but do you really think cutting his mother out of his life is what's best?
Katie: I think the problem here is that you've stopped thinking of Taylor as Jack's mother, and she is.
Brooke: My God, why are you ganging up on me?
Katie: Why are you making this all about yourself?
Brooke: Look, Jack needs to be in a stable home, in a good environment. And you can give that to him, Nick. As long as Taylor is with my son, they are never gonna provide a stable environment ever. (Sighs) oh, my God, if that were to happen, that would be my worst nightmare.
Rick: You don't need to do that, Taylor. They're already clean.
Taylor: I know. I just want everything to smell all fresh when I put him down in the bed. Or do you think I'm setting myself up for disappointment?
Rick: Will you stop it? They can't deny joint custody now. You--you-- you second-guess yourself every time something goes--goes right for you.
Taylor: No, I trust myself usually. I just have a hard time believing something good is going to come my way. Like when I think of you, I think about things like, I don't know, can this really work?
Rick: Well, stranger things have happened. Here.
Taylor: (Sighs heavily) No, it's-- it's just that you're the only one who's ever really seen me as I am and accepted me for it and then worked with me through it. You're the only one.
Rick: Do you know why I did that?
Taylor: Because you love me?
Rick: (Laughs) Yeah.
Taylor: Even though I'm not very lovable?
Rick: Look, I need you to know that I don't care what--what Phoebe thinks or what my mom or Ridge think. They really need to figure out their own lives and stop passing judgment on ours. We are the only ones that can really put a name to--to what we are.
Taylor: A name?
Taylor: Hmm. Well, we're not lovers.
Taylor: And we're not just friends.
Rick: Okay. (Laughs)
Taylor: I don't know why we need to have a name on it. Does it matter?
Rick: It does to me.
Rick: You asked me what is right. This is right. (Exhales deeply) I want you to be my wife. Will you marry me? Marry me, Taylor.
Taylor: Rick, I don't know what to say.
Rick: One word. That's all I need to hear is one word-- yes. Say "Yes."
