Brooke: (Laughs) He's an angel.

Nick: Well, he is now. You must have the magic touch.

Katie: What Dad did was wrong. It's a crime.

Donna: We don't know what he did.

Katie: Well, the police seem to think that he did something. They arrested him.

Stephen: Oh, hi, honey.

Donna: Daddy! God, I can't believe this is happening.

Storm: Dad's innocent, and we have to prove it. I've been handing out flyers to the hotel staff. Maybe somebody saw something suspicious.

Katie: Oh, you mean like Dad putting the gun in the wall?

Stephen: The Forresters are behind this.

Katie: So you think you're being framed?

Donna: Look, Stephanie hates us enough that she could have set this whole thing up.

Katie: Yeah, I suppose that's possible, but anything is possible. It's possible I shot Stephanie.

Stephen: Don't even say that.

Katie: Why? Are you afraid the people who framed you bugged the room, too?

Storm: Look, I understand your concern, Katie. We all are. You know, I don't like seeing our name in the tabloids any more than you do, but there's nothing we can do about that now. All we can do is pull together and build a defense for Dad.

Katie: Well, if he's innocent, that should be easy, right?

Stephen: If I'm innocent? Katie, honey, what are you saying? You can't believe I had something to do with this, that your father is capable of attempted murder?

Man: (Speaking indistinctly)

Lt. Baker: Charles, what you doing?

Charlie: Making room for the next case.

Lt. Baker: We're not finished with this one yet.

Charlie: We arrested Stephen Logan. What, you think we missed something?

Lt. Baker: Stephanie Forrester has a lot of enemies.

Charlie: But only one was hiding the gun in his hotel room.

Lt. Baker: No prints on the weapon.

Charlie: Ballistics matched the bullet. It's open-and-shut.

Lt. Baker: When you're dealing with the Forresters, there's no such thing as open-and-shut.

Brooke: (Laughs) he's so beautiful.

Nick: (Whispers) yeah. (Normal voice) and he's tired.

Brooke: (Laughs)

Nick: Maybe we should put him down.

Brooke: Oh, no. No, please, just a little bit longer. I know. I shouldn't even be here. (Sighs) I've tried to keep my distance. I even signed those papers, thinking that it would be the best thing for everybody.

Jack: (Grunting)

Brooke: When I look into his eyes, I-- there's no denying that there's a connection there, and it's not just biology.

Brooke: Look, I, uh-- I know that I'm not Jack's mother. (Sighs) I really thought that I could stay away and not be a part of his life, but I-I-I can't.

Jack: (Coos)

Brooke: I-I don't think I can handle that. I just can't.

Jack: (Grunts) (coos)

Katie: I would love to give you the benefit of the doubt, but I can't.

Donna: Dad needs our support.

Katie: And I need proof that he isn't the shooter, and before you say anything, your word's not good enough.

Stephen: (Sighs)

Donna: My God, Katie, think of our family.

Katie: I am. I am thinking of our family. If he did this and we go to bat for him, we're gonna look like complete idiots. Worse--accessories.

Stephen: I didn't do it.

Katie: Well, you sure threatened it often enough.

Stephen: Katie, listen to me. I'm your father. I...

Katie: No. No, you're not. You're not my father.

Charlie: Look, we did not arrest the wrong guy.

Lt. Baker: I agree, but we have to make sure. No holes, no loose ends. We have to wrap this up tight.

Charlie: Stephen had means, motive and opportunity.

Lt. Baker: He wasn't the only one, and every question mark we leave on that board is another crack that Stephen Logan could shimmy through. This should help-- security video from Forrester Creations.

Charlie: We already checked that out. There were no cameras backstage, in the offices or in the models' dressing rooms.

Lt. Baker: Yeah, but they were running practically everywhere else. We're gonna have to look through every inch of this footage, make sure nothing got overlooked.

Brooke: There you go.

Jack: (Fusses)

Brooke: Here you go.

Jack: (Grunts)

Brooke: My little sweetie.

Jack: (Coos)

Brooke: Mm.

Nick: He's getting tired.

Brooke: You know your son.

Nick: I know you, too.

Brooke: It doesn't take a mind reader to see that this is difficult for me.

Nick: I'm sorry.

Brooke: No, I'm just happy to be here to hold him for the very first time.

Brooke: I really should go. Taylor wouldn't be too happy if I were here, and neither would Ridge. We don't want to hurt them. We have to respect their feelings.

Nick: The way Ridge respected yours?

Brooke: That's the picture you gave me.

Nick: He gave it back to me. He said that I was sending you mixed signals.

Brooke: I know that you're committed to Taylor and your son. I know that.

Nick: I am committed to them, but he might have a point here. Giving you this photo might not have been such a good idea.

Brooke: You just gave it to me because you knew how much I missed seeing your little boy.

Nick: And you came over here because you thought something was wrong with that little boy. You did what any mother would do.

Nick: (Sighs) you know, Brooke, I fell for you the first time I laid eyes on you. I've never felt anything like it in my life. And that little boy, when he looked up at me for the first time, I didn't need a blood test to know where his D.N.A. Came from.

Charlie: Boss, what do you expect to find on that CD?

Lt. Baker: We won't know till we look at it.

Pam: Yoo-hoo. Lieutenant baker? I don't know if you remember me, but I'm Stephanie Forrester's sister Pamela Douglas. I met you in the hospital the day that you told her that Stephen Logan had been arrested.

Lt. Baker: Right.

Pam: Good for you. We're so grateful I made you cookies. Should I just put 'em over there? I feel so much better knowing that that shooter has been caught. (Laughs) what a relief. Phew! (Laughs) anyhow, uh, I know you've got a lot of work to catch up on. And toodles!

Charlie: Cookies.

Lt. Baker: Yeah.

Charlie: Hmm. Her sister's in the hospital, and she's bringing cookies to cops?

Lt. Baker: Check her out.

Charlie: Where do I start?

Lt. Baker: Follow the cookie crumbs.

Stephen: How can you say I'm not your father?

Katie: You didn't raise me. You weren't there when I was growing up.

Stephen: That makes me guilty of being a bad parent, not attempted murder.

Katie: And I'm just supposed to trust you because... we're family? I don't even know you.

Stephen: You're right. I did a lot of things that I regret, made decisions that hurt my family, but I didn't do this. And maybe if I had stood up for you years ago, we all wouldn't be suspects now. The Forresters might not even be in our lives.

Katie: You can't blame all of your problems on the Forresters.

Stephen: Katie, wait.

Katie: What? You're just gonna make it all okay? It's too late.

Brooke: I-I don't know what to say.

Nick: There's connection between you and that boy. We can all try to pretend that it's not there, but it is.

Brooke: (Sighs) Well, that doesn't change anything.

Nick: Neither will denying it.

Brooke: So what else do we do?

Nick: We try not to put everything in stone. All of these pronouncements of what your relationship with Jack is supposed to be-- they're meaningless.

Brooke: (Sighs) Well, not to Taylor. I mean, she's finally starting to bond with her son. And being constantly reminded of where he came from isn't going to be good for her.

Nick: I don't think you should be denied contact with him.

Brooke: Nick, you're his parents.

Nick: We all know that, and our relationship is solid.

Brooke: And my relationship with Ridge is solid. I don't want to do anything that's going to jeopardize that.

Nick: He's that insecure?

Brooke: He doesn't want me to get hurt.

Nick: And it doesn't hurt you being separated from that boy?

Brooke: (Sighs) it's just the way it has to be.

Nick: Brooke, I truly believe that Taylor's gonna come around on this. I hope Ridge does. We don't really know. But we're all trying to get our sea legs here. We're trying to adjust. And I just don't believe it's gonna be threatening to anyone if you're in contact with that boy. Trust me. It'll all make sense. You better stop twisting that forehead of yours like that, or it's gonna turn into a prune.

Brooke: (Laughs) Yeah.

Nick: There. That's that smile everybody loves.

Donna: She'll come around.

Stephen: She's tired of my excuses.

Donna: Look, you wouldn't even be on the list of suspects if it weren't for Stephanie. The abuse that she has heaped on our family-- sending that monster after Brooke.

Stephen: No. No, Donna. I wasn't arrested for something Stephanie did. I'm the one who threatened her life. And I'm the one who abandoned my family. And that's why Katie can't trust me.

Storm: Well, Donna and I know that you're innocent, Dad, and I'm gonna prove it.

Stephen: And your support and loyalty mean the world to me-- knowing that you're there for me. But where was I when you needed me?

Storm: Well, we did okay.

Stephen: (Chuckles) oh, no, no, you did great. You did great. All of my children are incredible people. And I'm proud of you. But I wasn't the kind of father you needed. I couldn't admit that to myself for years. I blamed the Forresters for everything that happened in my relationship with your mother. I was so full of... (sighs) fear. It was fear.

Storm: (Sighs)

Stephen: Fear and self-loathing. I was incapable of making a decision for myself or my family. But you, storm, you stepped up. You filled the void. You became the center. You held it all together.

Storm: (Sighs deeply)

Stephen: You protected and supported your mother and your sisters. And now you have to protect and support your father.

Storm: (Laughs) (sniffles) yeah, well... (laughs) ohh. Jeez, I guess it wasn't easy, I suppose-- carrying on without you. I don't know. Maybe that's what made us stronger-- the sacrifices, the sleepless nights, wondering what the hell we did wrong. Ohh, man. I was so determined to prove that I didn't need you. Oh, it just, uh, became, like, an obsession to me-- being the leader, carrying the family, being the father that we didn't have. God... (laughs) I was... (sighs) I was just a kid, you know? I was so terrified. It felt like I was carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders.

Stephen: Ohh.

Storm: (Exhales deeply)

Stephen: I'm sorry, son.

Storm: (Laughs) wow. Ohh, yeah, well, nobody said life was fair, right? (Laughs) I don't know, maybe that's why I became an attorney. You know, stamp out the bad guys and put away the criminals, right?

Donna: Well, you are gonna find who shot Stephanie Forrester.

Storm: I know I will. I guarantee it.

Stephen: I have complete confidence in you, storm. My future is in your hands. And maybe it's... (sighs) wishful thinking, but when all of is is done...

Stephen: Even if I don't deserve it, I hope that you'll give me a chance to pay you all back.

Storm: Well... wow. (Sighs)

Brooke: Not to change the subject, but I suppose you heard about my dad?

Nick: I did. I'm sorry.

Brooke: I don't want to believe he did it. But they found the gun in his hotel room, and he was definitely mad enough to shoot Stephanie.

Nick: Well, he's not alone in wanting to shut her up.

Brooke: Lt. Baker was looking at him from the beginning.

Nick: Lt. Baker was looking at me, too.

Brooke: Well, he didn't arrest you.

Nick: But still, he's got his whole list of suspects-- easier to show reasonable doubt. Your father got a good attorney?

Brooke: Storm.

Nick: I didn't think they got along.

Brooke: Well, Dad's in trouble. The whole family had to come together.

Nick: Well, I know your old man-- who he was, who he is today-- and as soon as he found out that you were in trouble, he did what he could and got on the first flight to L.A.

Brooke: He did.

Nick: There. Isn't that what being a good parent's all about?

Brooke: You always have a way of making me look at things from a different perspective.

Nick: Oh... (laughs) I don't know if that's good or bad.

Brooke: No, no, that's good.

Nick: Really?

Brooke: Yeah.

Nick: Oh, good.

Brooke: You remember all the wonderful times that we had together? We'd take the boat out, go to the Channel Islands, camp out with the kids and play pirates and search for the-- the treasure. (Laughs)

Nick: (Laughs)

Brooke: Do you think there'll ever be a day that we might all be able to do that together?

Nick: Ooh, I don't know about that, but we can hope for the best. Ridge and Taylor will come around. Things will ease up, and, you know, you'll be able to spend more time with Jack. Until then, we'll just find out some way that you can see him, hmm?

Brooke: (Sighs) okay. Thank you. Thank you for... (sighs) for just realizing how much this really means to me.

Nick: It'll be our little secret.

Brooke: Yeah. (Laughs) our little secret.
