Nick: Taylor, honey, you know, you really shouldn't be here.

Taylor: Oh, I know, I know, that whole anonymous, confidentiality thing.

Nick: Yeah.

Taylor: But obviously, that didn't keep you away. And I mean, how could I not? This woman just saved our baby's life. I just--I just want to go talk to her for just a minute. I just want to talk to her and meet her, okay? Come on.

Brooke: (Exhales deeply)

(Kissing sounds)

Donna: What's wrong?

Eric: Wrong? Absolutely nothing. But it's late. I think we better call it a night.

Donna: Because of Felicia-- what she threatened to do to me if I ever show my face here again?

Eric: Which will pale in comparison to what her mother will do when she comes home.

Donna: If she ever comes home.

Eric: Oh, she won't stay away very long. Her children and this house mean too much to her.

Donna: But not you. She has taken you for granted for so many years.

Eric: And I've allowed it for so many years, too, haven't I?

Donna: Well, I, for one-- I don't think she is coming back, Eric. She has done the unforgivable. I mean, how could she ever expect to show her face here again, knowing she's responsible for Brooke's rape?

Ann: There, I told you I'd get you home in one piece.

Stephanie: You know, now that I think about it, didn't you tell Eric that you were afraid you wouldn't be able to drive a car in Los Angeles?

Ann: Just because I'm old doesn't mean I can't hold my own on the freeway. (Sighs) besides, I wanted to get you back here as quickly as possible.

Stephanie: (Scoffs) well, you're the one that volunteered to fly back here with me, Mother.

Ann: I was afraid you might not leave Chicago otherwise.

Stephanie: Well, I'm sorry that my--my visit was so unpleasant. If I'd known I wasn't going to be welcome, I would have gone someplace else.

Ann: I never said you weren't welcome, but the week you were there, all you did was mope around the condo.

Stephanie: I did not mope.

Ann: Well, you certainly weren't yourself. (Chuckles) and I know why.

Stephanie: Let's not go through this again, okay?

Ann: Eric finally threw you out, didn't he? You did something so utterly unforgivable--

Stephanie: Look, you don't know what you're talking about, Mother.

Ann: (Sighs) fine. Then suppose you tell me why you've been in hiding from your husband and your children l this time.

Stephanie: I have not been hiding. Mother, this is between my family and me, okay?

Ann: So you keep saying. Well, what are you waiting for? B-b-time to face the firing squad. Though, just know if Eric doesn't shoot you and you show up at my door again, I might.

Stephanie: I'd expect nothing less. (Sighs)

Nick: Are you sure that you want to do this?

Taylor: Yeah, it'll just take a minute. And then we can go see the baby.

Nick: No! Uh, no. Um, I-there he is right here. Th--th--they're bringing the little guy out.

Taylor: Oh, he's in recovery. Oh, my goodness. He looks beautiful. I want to go with him. I want to see him...

Nick: Okay, good, good.

Taylor: See him.

Nurse: We're taking him to NICU now.

Nick: There he is. Okay, good, good. Look at him.

Taylor: Hi, baby. It's Mommy. Ahh, Mommy loves you so much. Ahh, you're so beautiful.

Ann: We can't sit out here all night, Stephanie.

Stephanie: You don't understand, mother, and you never will.

Ann: I understand that anger of yours. I told you it'd get the best of you one day. And obviously it has. Still, if Eric could forgive you for lying about me being dead all those years, surely, he can forgive you for whatever you did this time.

Eric: Stephanie did a horrible thing.

Donna: An unforgivable thing?

Donna: You're still wearing your wedding band. Eric, you have forgiven Stephanie for so many things so many times, but what she did to Brooke-- you can't forgive her for that, Eric. You just can't.

Bridget: Well, we have every reason to hope that the -- the baby's immune system will correct.

Brooke: And when will we know that for certain?

Bridget: It usually takes a couple months. But there is no mistake that what you have done for Nick and Taylor's baby is amazing. You've given him every chance to have a healthy, normal life.

Brooke: He is a beautiful baby boy. You know, I could almost see the resemblance.

Bridget: Mom, you can't talk like that.

Brooke: Honey, I know. I know he's not actually mine. But we both know the history that I have with Taylor, with Nick. And when he tells her that I'm the mother...

Taylor: I think he looked so beautiful, and he looked so healthy. Everything's gonna be just fine. But I do still want to meet the donor. I mean, you got to meet her. Is there some reason you don't want me to?

Nick: Here we go.

Taylor: There is, isn't there? Honey, what? What is it? What's going on? Nick, wh--just tell me why you get to meet her and I canít.

Nick: Can we just no-- leave this rest for right now? It's been a huge day. We should be grateful that our son is okay. C-can we--can we just let this lay?

Taylor: Meaning there is a reason? There's a problem? What?

Nick: Let me help you into bed, honey. Come on.

Taylor: No. No, wait. No, please, just tell me what's going on. When you met the donor, d-did you learn something about her? What is it? What's going on?

Nick: (Exhales deeply) The woman in recovery-- she's not the donor we selected.

Nick: There was a mix-up at the hospital. We got her egg instead of our donor's.

Taylor: What?

Nick: Now this is a shock, but what we need to focus on is the fact that our little boy is healthy and he's okay. That's what we need to focus on. That's what we have to take from today.

Taylor: The--the egg donor we selected is not the biological mother of our child? So who is the woman in recovery?

(Acoustic guitar playing)

Stephanie: Mother, would you just leave the suitcase? Eric will-- Eric could have brought it in.

Ann: I am perfectly capable of handling a suitcase, Stephanie. Besides, the sooner you're inside, the sooner I'm on my way back to the airport.

Stephanie: You're not coming in?

Ann: And risk missing my flight? I guess this is good-bye. You'll remember to tell Eric to send me an invitation to his next showing... and to send that lovely jet.

Stephanie: Mother. Thank you for putting up with me.

Ann: I have to go.

(Car starting)

(Tires squealing)

Stephanie: (Scoffs)

Eric: I hate what happened to Brooke. I despise Stephanie's involvement. I've told her a thousand times to stay the hell out of other people's lives.

Donna: For all the good it did. Look, I'm not criticizing you, Eric. I don't think there is a man alive that could rein in Stephanie completely. But after what she did to my sister-- I mean, yes, she's given you a family, but--but this house-- it's--it's been as much your prison as your home... until recently. I mean, you finally-- you finally have yourself again. You're happy. You've got your company back.

Eric: Yeah. And why is that? Oh, yeah. It's because of you...

Donna: No.

Eric: Isn't it?

Donna: (Laughs) I may have given you the impetus, but it happened because of you.

Donna: You're confident. You believe in yourself.

Donna: I am so in love with you, Eric.

(Knock at door)

Stephanie: Eric? Eric? Rosa? Is anybody here for goodness' sake?

Donna: Oh, my God, wh--what do we do?

Eric: We don't do anything. You go out on the terrace, all right? And you don't say a word. Go on. Go on.

Donna: Okay.

(Knocks) (knocks)

Stephanie: What did you do, change the locks? And buy a guard dog, as well, I suppose?

Eric: You don't want me to answer that.

Stephanie: You look good.

Eric: A lot's happened since you were away.

Stephanie: With the company, yes, yes, I know. And, uh, I'm very happy for you.

Eric: It's back where it belongs, thanks to--

Stephanie: Marone caved and so easily. But you had him on the ropes, didn't you? It's just funny that he gave so quickly. I mean, it's so hard to believe.

Eric: Maybe what's so hard for you to believe is that I accomplished it all on my own. You didn't think I had it in me, did ya?

Stephanie: Obviously I was wrong... about a lot of things.

Nick: I know this is a lot to process, but we have to be grateful that our baby got the marrow that he needed.

Taylor: But not from the donor we thought was the baby's biological mother. So--uh-- the woman in the recovery room-- wh--wh-- what--are you saying this is somebody we don't even know anything about?

Nick: But she came to the hospital as soon as she knew our son was in trouble. She didn't hesitate. She went through the entire difficult process of a bone marrow to save our child.

Taylor: (Exhales deeply)

Nick: But to answer your question -- (Sighs) there was some confusion during the fertilization. (Sighs) and Bridget asked a lab tech for the Marone donation for in vitro, and instead she was given an egg dish labeled "Marone," but it was earmarked for research. There wasn't just one Mrs. Marone.

Taylor: Are you saying... Bridget?

Nick: No.

Taylor: Well, thank God. I mean, I love Bridget. It's just that you two were married before, and I-I really can't think of anything more awkward.

Taylor: So whose egg was implanted in me?

Taylor: Nick, whose egg was it?

Nick: It came from Brooke.

Stephanie: I left a letter. Did you --did you find it?

Eric: Yes, yes, I did. You couldn't face your family, could you? You scribbled a few "I'm sorries" on a piece of paper, and you took off for parts unknown, waiting till things cooled off.

Stephanie: I'm sure that's how it must seem to you. I... I knew you would be very, very angry, and, actually, I didn't want to see the disappointment that I see at this moment in your eyes.

Eric: Disappointment doesn't come even close to what I'm feeling about what you did.

Stephanie: It was a terrible tragedy, a terrible mistake, and you have no idea how sorry I am about it.

Eric: No, a mistake is what happens when you balance your checkbook incorrectly. Setting off a chain of events where someone ends up being violated-- that's contemptible.

Stephanie: How could I possibly have had any idea that something like that was going to happen? Eric, please. Look, it was an unforgivable mistake in judgment on my part. You're absolutely right. And it was caused because of my feelings for Brooke. That--that's not an excuse. That's--that's the reality of the situation. And I'm so sorry about it, and I... look, I need you to try and understand that. And I'm asking you to forgive me, which I know I have done many, many, many, many, many times.

Eric: And that's what I've done many, many times, isn't it? Forgive you every time. It's because I wanted to believe that you would change. I needed to believe that you would change for--for our marriage and for our children, for our family. But even after what happened this year with your mother-- reliving everything that happened in your past-- I thought that was gonna be a real turning point for you. And yet once again, here you go.

Stephanie: Eric, please, look, look. I've done a lot of soul searching. Believe me, I have these past few weeks. And I-I look into myself, and I-I don't know if I can change, Eric. Maybe this is just who I am. I don't know. I don't know. The only thing that I know is that you have been my whole world-- you and our children. And I... I know what a good man you are. I don't know, maybe I don't deserve you. Maybe somebody else would make you happier. I--but please believe me when I tell you I will do anything, anything in this world in order to make this right. If you want to go to therapy, we can go together. If you want me to go alone, I'll go every day. I'll-- please don't let this be the end of us.

Taylor: I did not-- I could not have just heard y--

Nick: You did.

Taylor: Brooke? Brooke? What are you talking about? The--the baby is from Brooke's egg?

Nick: She's the donor. That's all. She's just the donor.

Taylor: No! No! No!

Nick: (Sighs)

Taylor: I wanted a child, Nick-- our child. But now what do I have? I have your child with Brooke?!

Nick: No. Taylor, you're the mother. It's--it's yours. You're the mother.

Taylor: (Sobbing) no! No! She's--she's ruined everything.

Nick: That's not true. She--she--she didn't know what was going-- it's not her fault.

Taylor: Don't you dare defend her!

Nick: You--just listen to me.

Taylor: No, I'm not gonna listen to you. She's--she's stolen my child from me. She's taken everything from me all my life. I mean--I mean, I just wanted a clean slate with--with you and--and me and our--our baby. And now it's--it's you and me and Brooke's child. God!

Nick: No, it's our child.

Taylor: Oh, is it? Is it?

Nick: Yes, yes, he is.

Taylor: Don't you dare touch me. Don't. I cannot believe this is happening. I can't believe it. Oh, my God. (Sobbing) I've given birth to Brooke's baby. I just can't believe it. This can't be happening. (Sobbing)

Brooke: Taylor?
