Ashley: You proposed?
Katie: Well, it sure is a pretty ring.
Thorne: Donna could have kept it. I wouldn't have cared, but to her credit, I guess she just didn't feel right about it.
Katie: Well, I didn't think she would, though I'm sure it surprised a lot of people.
Thorne: Yeah. You know, I'm just glad we were able to clear the air. You know, life is just too short to carry grudges. I mean, not that Donna would have been good for me in some ways, but I think that if we would have got married, it would have been a mistake for both of us. I'm just glad you spoke up when you did.
Katie: So is that why you stopped by, to thank me again?
Thorne: No, I, uh, recently came across something.
Katie: A photo?
Thorne: You know, you and I have been to a lot of Forrester weddings.
Thorne: Check this out.
Katie: Oh, my God!
Katie: This was at Ridge's and Brooke's first wedding. (Gasps)
Katie: Look at my skin. What a nightmare!
Thorne: Oh, please. You weren't the only one with issues. I mean, look at this hairdo...
Thorne: And that suit. Besides, I don't remember any acne. I just remember what a great day I had with you. See? Look. Who says our two families can't get along?
Ridge: Ashley, I can explain here.
Ashley: I think the ring says it all.
Ridge: Now hold on. Hold on. This is a very, very unfortunate misunderstanding.
Brooke: I don't know how this beautiful engagement ring is a misunderstanding.
Ridge: It wasn't meant for you, Brooke.
Ridge: I'm so sorry. I didn't anticipate you finding this. I-I was gonna ask Ashley to be my wife.
Brooke: Ridge, what-- what are you talking about? You and I were supposed to be... no. No. This--this can't be happening. What are-- you can't do this!
Ridge: Ashley, could you give us a couple minutes here?
Ashley: Yeah, of course. I'll be down by the pool.
Brooke: (Sighs) so... you're gonna marry Ashley?
Brooke: You love her more than you love me?
Ridge: I'm sorry, Brooke.
Brooke: No, Ridge, you don't.
Donna: What's wrong?
Eric: I don't know. Maybe nothing. I just think that maybe, um-- maybe you should go home.
Donna: I don't understand. I-I thought--
Eric: I know. I know. And I--and I know. I know what I said, too. I-I'm just-- I'm just thinking better of it.
Donna: Because of what happened with Thorne?
Eric: No. I believe you were sincere when-- when you say you regret what happened with Thorne, I believe that.
Donna: Then why do you want me to leave?
Eric: I-I just-- I don't want to take advantage.
Donna: No, you couldn't. You--you could never. That's not who you are. Are you sure that's-- that's what you really want?
Eric: I think it actually would be best.
Donna: I'll see myself out.
(Cell phone rings)
Rick: So how'd it go?
Ashley: Uh, Ridge is with your mom right now. I walked in on them.
Ashley: It's not what you think. I mean, I-I jumped to the same conclusion, especially when I-I saw the engagement ring on Brooke's finger.
Rick: Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Hang on a sec. Ashley, I'm just a little confused.
Ashley: The ring is for me. It's not for your mother. I mean, he-- he wants to marry me, and um, he's trying to explain that to Brooke right now.
Ridge: Logan, I am so sorry. This has gotta be one hell of a shock for you, and it's definitely not the way I intended you to find out.
Brooke: Ridge, this is crazy. You--you can't marry Ashley Abbott, not when we have such a perfect future ahead of us. You're--you're attracted to her, but being attracted to somebody and being committed to somebody for the rest of your life-- those are two different things. And you don't feel that way about Ashley. You don't feel about her the way you feel about me, and you know it.
Ridge: Brooke, you don't know anything about me and Ashley.
Brooke: You don't love Ashley the way you love me!
Brooke: My God, you can't even look me in the eye.
Ridge: I don't want to lose Ashley, not when I already know what's gonna happen-- what always happens when you and I want to make a life together. We wind up hurting each other, Brooke-- not intentionally, but it just happens.
Brooke: Ridge, it's because of your mother and how miserable she's always wanted us to be. But now she's out of the picture, and we have a wonderful, beautiful, amazing son together. I mean, have you thought about him? Have you thought about what's best for him?
Ridge: Were you thinking about him when you ended our engagement last time, when you came rushing back here to Nick and begged him to take you back? Were you thinking about him then? Were you thinking about our son's father and what he would feel-- how humiliated he might feel? Brooke, you dumped me for my half brother without even so much as taking a breath. Do you know how that made me feel then? Do you know how it still makes me feel? Because if you did, you'd understand why you and I are just not meant to be.
Thorne: So what do you think we should do with that?
Katie: I know what I'd like to do with it.
Thorne: (Laughing) Burn it?
Katie: Actually, no. No, I think I'm gonna keep this photo. I think it's a good reminder of how I used to feel about myself and how much better I feel about myself now.
Thorne: I agree. I think we should keep the photo, but for an entirely different reason.
Katie: Oh, yeah? What's that?
Thorne: Yeah. Do you remember the song that we danced to that day?
Katie: Oh, you don't mean--
Thorne: Yeah, that one.
Thorne: You had a crush on the lead singer.
Katie: I did not! Okay, maybe a little, teeny, teeny, tiny crush.
Katie: But come on. It was the '90s.
Thorne: Oh, the '90s, hell.
Katie: Every girl had a crush on that guy.
Thorne: Please. It was the leather pants.
Katie: Oh, no.
Thorne: You're blushing.
Katie: I am not blushing. It had nothing to do with his leather pants. It--you know, I like all the music from--from the early '90s.
Thorne: Oh. Well, then you're in luck, kid.
Katie: I am?
Thorne: Yes, you are, because there is a club that just opened downtown, and they only play the '90s hits every Thursday night. You want to go sometime?
Katie: With you?
Thorne: No, with my mother.
Thorne: Look, I promise I won't embarrass you, okay? I still have a move or two.
Katie: Sure. Why not?
Thorne: Good. I might even wear my leather pants.
Katie: Oh, God.
Thorne: (Chuckles) Yeah. On that note, I'm out of here.
Katie: (Laughs) Oh, you, um, uh, forgot your picture.
Thorne: No, I didn't.
Donna: I couldn't leave. I didn't think you really wanted me to. Was I wrong?
Brooke: Ridge, if you're worried that I still have feelings for Nick, I don't. And he's--he's happily married with Taylor now, and they're going to be having a baby. And there's absolutely no connection that we have together, Nick and I. Just tell me that you believe me, please. Say that you believe me.
Ridge: (Sighs) What I believe is that you will always have a place in my heart, Brooke, because of our son and because no man who has ever loved you the way I have loved you can stop loving you.
Ridge: But I can't go there again. Ashley is my future. She's the woman that ring was meant for.
Donna: Are you upset with me?
Eric: Do I look upset?
Eric: Donna, you are just about the most charming, captivating woman I've ever met. But um--
Donna: Please, don't. Don't tell me it's the age thing.
Eric: No, although you should be a little more careful about sneaking up on a man who's as old as I am.
Eric: No, it's not the age thing. To me, um, age is just sort of a-a state of mind. And right now, I'm feeling just about, um, 22.
Donna: Then I-I don't see the problem.
Eric: Oh, well...
Donna: You owe Stephanie nothing, Eric. You've paid your dues. What's wrong with wanting a little warmth and tenderness? Just please don't overthink it. Just... do what you feel is right.
Katie: Oh, hi. I just made some tea. Do you want some? Are you okay? What happened?
Brooke: Ridge invited me to dinner, and there was this engagement ring.
Katie: Oh, my God. He proposed?
Brooke: (Tearfully) No, it--it wasn't for me. It was for Ashley.
Katie: Oh. Honey, I'm so sorry.
Brooke: But he can't do it. I mean, he--he-- can't put it on her finger, not when he knows that there's finally a chance for R.J. to have his parent reunited. I mean, he can't propose to her. He--he just can't do it.
Ridge: This is not how I planned it to happen.
Ashley: You went to a lot of trouble.
Ridge: Unfortunately, Brooke misread the whole thing, even before she found the ring.
Ashley: She thought tonight was about romance?
Ridge: All I was really trying to do was set a tone. I didn't want Brooke to be uncomfortable as you and I move forward.
Ashley: Only Brooke doesn't want to move forward-- not without you-- and you know what she was hoping.
Ridge: Yeah, but it's not gonna happen. I sure as hell didn't mean for her to find out like this. But none of this is your problem. You had no idea what you were walking in on, I'm sure. Tomorrow night, I was planning a, uh, proposal that you would never forget. I guess in a weird way, I already did that.
Ridge: How would you feel getting proposed to at 35,000 feet?
Ashley: Does that also entail a private jet and vintage champagne and a romantic destination, maybe?
Ridge: Mm. I was thinking Tahiti.
Ashley: Oh, Tahiti's nice.
Ridge: Or... I could just get down on one knee, take your hand in mine, tell you how much I love you and that more than anything in the world, I would love to give you and your daughter...
Ridge: The happiest, most amazing life imaginable. Would you, Ashley, do me the honor, the great honor, of becoming my wife?
Ashley: Are you sure?
Ridge: I've never been more sure of anything...
Ridge: Or anyone.
