Bridget: Mom, you really need to eat something. Just a few bites, at least.
Brooke: I'm sorry, sweetheart. Maybe later.
Bridget: I'm just really worried about you. You haven't slept, and you're not eating anything.
Brooke: I just want my babies back.
Bridget: I know. I know, but you were... you--you just-- you're still really fragile.
Brooke: Well, the hearing hasn't been canceled. It's just been postponed. And somehow I have to get past what this animal did to me and... and get my children back. I just want to hold them.
Brooke: I don't want to talk to anybody.
Ridge: Hey, Bridget. Can you put your mom on, please?
Bridget: Uh, Ridge, uh, um... yeah. She's here, yeah, but she just can't talk right now.
Ridge: Listen, I've left a dozen messages, and Brooke has returned none of them. Is she even aware she missed Hope's camp recital this morning?
Bridget: Yeah, h-how did you handle that?
Ridge: Well, I was able to smooth things over with Hope. But if Brooke wants her kids back as much as she claims... what kept her? Late-night partying with her new friend?
Bridget: Um... listen, Ridge, uh... I-I gotta go. I'll have mom call you back when she can. Bye.
Ridge: Apparently, Brooke doesn't want to talk to anyone.
Stephanie: Well, it's pretty clear, isn't it? I mean, whatever is going on with Brooke, she's in no position to make decisions about the children, so I think it's imperative that you act now.
Joe: I've located Hope's biological father. He's in Vegas.
Ridge: You spoke with Deacon Sharpe?
Joe: Yes, I have. He agreed to sign a statement of parental abandonment, which now clears the way for you to file for permanent full custody of Hope and Ridge Jr.
Stephanie: You've got to take into consideration Brooke's state of mind. The children shouldn't have to pay the price for that, and they won't when you get custody.
Joe: The papers are ready to file. They just need your signature.
Stephanie: Give me a moment alone, please.
(Electric guitar playing in background)
(microphone feedback screeches)
Man: Oh, yeah. All right, what else?
Man: Okay, we need some mike holders.
Phoebe: I still can't believe this is happening.
Constantine: (Chuckles) Well...
Phoebe: This is happening, right?
Felicia: Everybody's dying to know who won the Boldface Challenge.
Phoebe: So I'm really not gonna know who won the contest until we're opening the envelope on stage?
Man: Not to worry, Princess. See, I've got a good vibe that my man con here and you are gonna win.
Felicia: Who are you?
Constantine: That's my promoter, Don.
Don: Right, and this lovely would be?
Felicia: Too much for you to handle.
Constantine: Ow. (Laughs)
Phoebe: I'll be right back.
Phoebe: (Whispers) Excuse me.
Constantine: Come on, tiger. Let's get out of here.
Ashley: Phoebe, hi.
Phoebe: Ashley. I, uh, have to finish getting dressed, actually.
Ashley: Yeah, uh, I know everything's crazy because of the concert, but can I talk to you just for a second, alone?
Phoebe: I'd rather not, Ashley.
Ashley: Well, it doesn't surprise me. But I have something to say that I think you need to hear. It's about Rick.
Bridget: (Whispers) Nick. (Normal voice) um, hold on one second, Nick. (Keypad beeping)
Nick: What's with the security guard?
Bridget: How did you get past them?
Nick: Has something happened with your mother? Why was the custody hearing postponed? Bridget, answer me.
Bridget: Nick, look, s-she just, um, she just needs her rest. So thanks for coming by, but she'll get back to you, okay? Nick, please, wait. Don't go up there yet.
Nick: What is it? What happened to you?
Phoebe: Look, Ashley, I have a million things I have to do before the concert, and this is the last thing I need right now.
Ashley: I know, and I didn't come here to upset you. I just wanted to tell you that I was wrong about you and Rick.
Phoebe: Me and Rick?
Phoebe: Is there such a thing? I--
Ashley: Well, I guess that's up to you.
Phoebe: I-I thought I was too young and-- and--and too "Inexperienced" for him, right? That's what you kept saying.
Ashley: I was wrong. I was wrong. I've seen how torn up he is about losing you, and that tells me everything I need to know. Isn't there some way you can find it in your--
Phoebe: What? Forget about you and him? God, Ashley, every time-- every time I look at you, I'm reminded of it.
Ashley: Phoebe. Phoebe, he's been begging for your forgiveness, but he's not gonna keep doing it forever. Do you really wanna lose him? He's a great guy, and he made a mistake, but he loves you, more than I realized. Don't let him go, Phoebe. If you do, I think you're gonna regret it.
Stephanie: It's what's best for the children.
Ridge: You wanna tell that to Hope and R.J.? Those kids need their mother.
Stephanie: Exactly my point. She hasn't been around the children. She doesn't return your phone calls. She didn't show up for Hope's recital today. It's business as usual. The children are taking a backseat again because there's some man involved. Children have to know that... children have to have stability in their lives. They have to know who's in charge, who they can count on. And unfortunately, at this time in her life, it's not their mother. She loves them. It's just-- she loves herself more. It's always been that way. Children are supposed to be the number one priority in your life. They never have been with Brooke. It was the same way with Bridget and Rick. Honey, she knew what was at stake with Hope and R.J., and what did she do? The night before the hearing, she goes out, and God knows... children come first, honey.
Ridge: If-- and I do mean if-- I sign those papers, I want you to know that I'm not gonna deny Brooke any access to her kids. She can be with them anytime she wants. Is that understood?
Stephanie: Yes, as it should be.
Brooke: Nick, this really isn't a good time.
Bridget: I tried to tell him that, Mom, but apparently, the security guard didn't have any luck either.
Nick: I've hired him before at Creations. Forget about that. What is going on here?
Bridget: I told you. Mom just isn't feeling well.
Nick: Well, that could be for a lot of reasons. Which one is it? Did Stephanie do something?
Brooke: No. Child Protective Services canceled the hearing, but it's really not a major setback. Everything's gonna be okay.
Nick: It's gonna be okay? That's why you're holed up in your room here, staring at a picture of your children you never think you're gonna see again? (Sets picture down on table)
Nick: Why was the hearing postponed?
Bridget: Nick, I told you. She's not feeling well. Ms. Bascomb saw that she was in no shape to attend. That's all.
Nick: "In no shape"? What does that mean? Are you sick? Have you seen a doctor?
Bridget: That's why I'm here.
Brooke: My daughter's taking very good care of me.
Bridget: See? So there's no reason for you to stay.
Nick: Unh-unh. I don't like this. You're both trying too hard to get rid of me.
Bridget: Nick, please... (whispers) just go.
Nick: I will go when I get answers.
Brooke: Nick, I told you--
Nick: I know what you told me. I want you to start talking, because I don't believe either one of you. I want to know what's really going on here. .
Brooke: I really wish you wouldn't do this.
Nick: I just want to know what happened. Maybe I can help.
Bridget: Well, mom appreciates that, Nick, but really--
Nick: No, I understand that. What's going on here? Something has happened. Why aren't the kids with you? What happened from the last time I saw you to now? Brooke?
Brooke: Mrs. Bascomb came by unexpectedly, and I just wasn't myself.
Nick: It was the night before the hearing. Right? You were... anxious.
Brooke: It was more than that. I was...
Nick: What? You know you can tell me.
Brooke: Nick, please, I just need... I need a few more days to just pull myself together without any questions or any added pressure. Please.
Nick: Okay. All right. Well, I'm here for you, anytime, day or night.
Man: Okay, what else?
Man: Okay, we need some mikes.
Man: They are, believe me. Don't worry about that.
Constantine: Not too shabby, huh?
Felicia: Whoa! Oh, my God! This is from the proceeds of the ticket sales?
Constantine: That's right. Every dime of which is going to the clinic that saved your life, just like I promised. We might not know who won the Boldface Challenge, but...
Felicia: Doesn't matter. This is what matters.
Felicia: Thank you.
Constantine: You're welcome.
Rick: Sorry. Did I startle you?
Phoebe: Uh, no. I just--wow, you look beautiful.
Phoebe: It's--it's okay. I just--I actually have to meet Constantine. He's, uh--
Rick: He's convinced that you two are gonna win tonight, I know, but I know better.
Phoebe: What'd you do? Rig it?
Rick: No, I don't have to. I'm hoping that the fans heard what I feel in my heart, and then tonight, they'll hear it again. I hope you will, too.
Ridge: If I thought there was any other way, I wouldn't have signed the damn thing. Those kids are my responsibility, Ashley. With their mother backsliding and all...
Ashley: I understand. You felt you had no choice.
Ridge: Brooke was one day away from having her children back, and she gets caught out on the town with some guy. I just don't get it.
Ashley: You know, why don't you try calling her again? Or better yet, go see her in person. You know how devastated she must be?
Ridge: That's why I've asked the attorney to hold off filing the papers until I'm able to talk to her.
Ashley: That's smart.
Ridge: I hate like hell doing this to her, but if I didn't file for permanent custody, and I went back there and something else happened with the kids, I wouldn't be able to live with myself. It would destroy Brooke.
Ashley: You're doing this for Brooke's sake? Is that what you're telling yourself? I'm just wondering. Or maybe is that how your mom framed it to get you to do this? You know that Brooke needs her children more than any of us can even realize.
Bridget: Mom, Rick's concert is about to start, but I'm not gonna go. I'm gonna stay with you.
Brooke: No, go. Support him. Your father should be there, too. I just wish that I could...
Bridget: No, mom, you can't. You need to stay here. If--if it's okay, though, I'll, um, I'll just go, and then I'll be right back. I promise. Are you sure that you'll be okay?
Brooke: Just make sure the alarm's on.
Brooke: (Gasps) Stephanie.
Stephanie: What did you do, hire a security guard to convince Dorothy Bascomb that this house is safe for the children?
Brooke: Get out of here.
Stephanie: You know, the only real danger to your children is you and your irresponsible behavior.
Brooke: Give me that.
Stephanie: Couldn't help yourself, could you? Some guy shows the slightest bit of interest in you, and you're all over him like a cheap suit. So where is he? Hello? Or did you finish with him? Of course, you did. Next in line, please! Are you ever gonna grow up?
(Doorbell rings )
Phoebe: I can't do this right now, okay? I-I need to focus on the concert.
Rick: You're going to be wonderful.
We are going to be wonderful.
Phoebe: What--what "we"? Rick, we--we're not together.
Rick: Phoebe, please, listen to me. I have to believe that tonight when we're up on stage and we're singing together, and we're looking into each other's eyes, that everything else is just gonna fall into place.
Ashley: Wait a second. You still haven't answered my question.
Ridge: You sure don't pull any punches, you know that?
Ashley: No, I don't, and I don't think you want me to anyway, do you?
Ridge: I just want to set something straight here.
Ridge: This was my decision, not my mother's.
Ashley: I know. And she's their grandmother and she loves them. She wants to protect them and--
Ridge: Yeah, but when it comes to Brooke...
Ridge: You know, she can't wait to stick the knife in and...
Ridge: That's why I want to talk to Brooke first, lay things out as simply as possible. I don't want my mother in the middle of anything and making this any more difficult for Brooke. Come on, let's go.
Stephanie: So what did he do? Must have been something pretty special that you would take a risk and go out the night before you go to court for custody of the children.
Brooke: (Whispers) you don't know what you're talking about.
Stephanie: Oh, yes, I do, because I know you. You always do the same thing. You always put your needs above your own children's. Well, this time there's repercussions, isn't there? You think you can just seduce this guy and get away--
Brooke: I did not seduce him! Stephanie, it wasn't like that!
Stephanie: Really? What'd you do, just go barhopping? This is him, isn't it? Good-looking, just your type. Bring him back here and sleep with him?
Brooke: (Voice breaks) No!
Stephanie: This stupid, stupid fling of yours... it's cost you everything. You realize that, don't you? It's cost you your children, and you have no one to blame it on but yourself.
