Brooke: Oh, sorry, honey. Did I wake you?

Hope: Are you here to take us home?

Brooke: You're going to stay right here, where you're nice and cozy. I just wanted to tuck you in.

Hope: So, are you taking us home in the morning?

Brooke: I'm really lucky to be able to spend a lot of time with you and R.J., and Ridge really loves you, too, and he misses you. And I think he would like to spend more time with you guys, also. His life is really wonderful when you're around. I think I need to share you.

Hope: I love you, Mommy.

Brooke: I love you, too, sweetheart. My precious, beautiful little girl.

Taylor: Did you take Brooke home?

Nick: No, Storm did. She wanted to stop by and see her kids.

Taylor: For the judge to award custody to Ridge, even temporarily, it's just unheard of.

Nick: But it happened. It happened today, and it happened to Brooke.

Taylor: Are you blaming me? Is that what you're saying?

Nick: What you said in that courtroom, dear, didn't help Brooke's case.

Phoebe: Wait, wait, wait, wait.

Rick: Are you okay? What's going on?

Phoebe: I can't, I --

Rick: I thought you said this is what you wanted.

Phoebe: I know I did, but -- I guess I'm not ready for this.

Rick: Phoebe, I'm trying to understand what just happened now, but I don't.

Phoebe: I don't -- I don't, either. Look, I love you, I really do, but --

Rick: You say you want to make love to me, and now you don't. You say you love me? What, as a friend?

Phoebe: More than a friend! Rick, you know that.

Rick: Do I? I mean, loving someone "more than a friend" usually means something specific.

Phoebe: They have sex?

Rick: That they make love. Whatever you want to call it. But that dimension, it just usually gets added.

Phoebe: Well, does it -- does it have to? Rick, I mean, can't two people be in love and committed and more than friends, and not be sleeping together?

Rick: Yes. Yes, of course. Absolutely. People can, people do, and they're okay with that.

Phoebe: But you're not.

Rick: Phoebe, I don't -- I don't know what you want from me, okay? I am trying here, I -- you say -- you say you want me to be committed to you? I am. I am committed to you. Do you want to get married? You want to -- you want to get engaged

Phoebe: Rick, that's not what I'm talking about. I mean, I don't want that now.

Rick: Okay, then what are we doing? What are we doing? If people -- if two people that are in love don't connect in the deepest way possible, if those walls stay up, how can they grow? Phoebe, how can we grow? I don't want this relationship to die.

Phoebe: That's what you think will happen to us if I don't sleep with you.

Taylor: Nick, I -- I do have legitimate concerns. I was just telling the truth. Those are things she said. What else could I do? I was under oath.

Nick: You really don't think that you could have finessed things? To say that she's not responsible enough to care for her own children? She did help raise yours, didn't she?

Taylor: That was a different time. Those were completely different circumstances.

Nick: Whatever you say.

Taylor: To tell you the truth, maybe the reason I didn't feel the need to finesse things for Brooke is because I know you're always going to be there to catch her when she falls, anyway.

Stephanie: Where's Brooke? What's taking her so long?

Ridge: Brooke can have all the time she needs.

Stephanie: You know what happens. You give that woman an inch, she'll take a yard.

Ridge: Stop, Mother! This is hard enough for everybody, not just Brooke.

Stephanie: You're not second-guessing the situation, are you?

Ridge: Look, it's late. I'm tired. Why don't you go on home? As soon as she gets through up there, I'm going to turn in.

Stephanie: I'll make us a pot of tea.

Ridge: I don't need any tea.

Brooke: I'm not surprised to see that your mother's here.

Ridge: Brooke, this whole thing is temporary.

Brooke: Until I prove that I'm not some sort of monster that can't take care of her children.

Ridge: I just wanted to make sure you got the help you needed.

Brooke: Help? You call this help?

Ridge: Yes, I sincerely felt this is what was best for you.

Brooke: Oh, my God, Ridge. That may be the worst thing that you've ever said to me. You know how painful this is, the fact that I have to deal with facing life alone. And now you go to court, and you say these words that guarantee that I'm going to be even more alone? How -- how could you do that? You of all people?

Nick: Do you really want to go there?

Taylor: Nick, do you really think you can be objective when it comes to Brooke?

Nick: Can you?

Taylor: Probably not. But at least I can admit that. And you know that Brooke has been acting irrationally for months now, and she has put her children in danger. So, I would think that you would want to see her get the help she needs.

Nick: She needs her children back. She can see a shrink and be a mother. She can walk and chew gum at the same time. I'm going to head over to the boat, cool off before we say something we both regret.

Taylor: Should I wait up for you?

Nick: If you get tired, go to sleep.

[Door slams]

Brooke: You had the power to stop this. You could have stood up to Stephanie. But did you? No.

Ridge: Brooke, so many things were going on. Bad things were happening all over the place, and you were definitely not yourself.

Brooke: Ridge, we could have talked about it. You could have tried to help me. You didn't have to let Stephanie roll right over me.

Ridge: This has nothing to do with my mother. Child Protective Services stepped in and forced the issue.

Brooke: Oh, my God, you really don't believe that, do

Ridge: I'm sorry, Brooke, but that's the truth.

Hope: Daddy Ridge? Can I have some water?

Ridge: I'll be right there, sweetie.

Brooke: You better go to Hope.

Stephanie: Leaving?

Brooke: I'm sure you can't wait 'til I do.

Stephanie: You've had a tough day.

Brooke: Now you're concerned about my well-being?

Stephanie: Why don't you think of this as a real opportunity to heal yourself? Really face yourself. Face your issues. Long overdue.

Brooke: What are my issues, in your opinion? What have I done that's so manipulating the system to take away my kids?

Stephanie: I've always thought you were a real narcissist. So self-absorbed and self-centered and obsessed with men and sex. And no, actually, obsessed with the idea of conquering men. I always thought there was something you needed to be control of. But things are changing, aren't they? That sort of sexual power is fading away, and you didn't see it coming. So you've made some really foolish choices. Choices, I think, that are going to have a very tragic outcome for you. You know, if you didn't have two very young and impressionable children to care for, I really wouldn't give a flying fig. But you do. And they happen to be my grandchildren. So I feel very justified -- very justified in calling your behavior to the attention of the proper authorities.

Brooke: Wow. That was quite a speech. I realize you believe you're a vastly superior being.

Stephanie: No, I don't. It's just always been a matter of priorities. Mine has been family, yours has been sex.

Brooke: Somewhere in family, I think there should be a husband, and you, Stephanie -- you want to live your life like a human icicle, but I certainly don't. I want that companionship, and I want that warmth, and I'm not going to apologize for it, especially to you.

Stephanie: No. You would never make amends for everything, no matter how huge the mistake might be.

Brooke: You have an answer for everything, don't you?

Stephanie: No, I don't. And the older I get, the more I understand that. But you know what I do have? A place in my grandchildren's lives. And I am going to make sure that they are brought up with the right morals.

Brooke: Well, you really hit the jackpot this time. Not only have you cut me out of your life completely, but now you have a child to raise with your beloved Ridge.

[Nick remembering]

Nick: Look what we do to our treasure map. We burn the edges.

Phoebe: Look, when I make love for the first time, Rick, I don't want -- I don't want to have any regrets. I want the man to respect me afterwards, and more importantly, I -- I need to be able to respect myself.

Rick: Phoebe, I would never disrespect you.

Phoebe: I know, Rick, this isn't about you. It's not. It's -- it's -- it's me. Look, I know you've waited a long time. And I don't -- I don't know, maybe you're at your limit, and you'll move on and find someone who will give you what you need. It will be awful, and I would hate it. But I have to respect myself and what I'm feeling right now. I hope that you don't give up on us. But if you do, I'll -- I'll find a way to deal with it. I'm sorry.

Rick: You have to do what you have to do.

[Footsteps]

Brooke: Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't expect to find you here.

Nick: Well, I'm here.

Brooke: Well, I just came here because I needed a place to think, and this is usually where I feel most comfortable.

Nick: Join the group. How are the kids?

Brooke: They're fine. They're fast asleep. You know how you look at them, and they're just so sweet and so incredibly innocent.

Nick: About breaks your heart, I know.

Brooke: I don't know how I'm going to face every single night alone without Hope and R.J. I don't know how I'm going to do that, Nick. I mean, I don't understand what happened. I had this perfect life, and I just threw it all away. I don't remember the last time that I was happy. It just all seems so empty.

Nick: It just feels that way now.

Brooke: I'm just so sad, so sad.

Nick: I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I think you just need to feel like you're not alone through all of this. You've got someone there to help you through it because you're not alone. Before you know it, things will get better. Hope and R.J., they'll be right where they belong. They will be with their strong, courageous, beautiful mother.
