Brooke: I am not going to let you steal my children!

Ridge: Oh, Brooke, calm down!

Brooke: I am not going to calm down, Ridge! You and your mother are trying to take my kids away from me!

Ridge: Nobody is trying to take your children. Listen to me. Hope and R.J. are fine.

Brooke: Well, then let me see them.

Ridge: I told you, they're asleep.

Brooke: I'm taking them home.

Ridge: No, Brooke, you're not. The CPS agent wants them staying here.

Brooke: You can talk to her, Ridge. You can tell her it was all a mistake. I am a good mother.

Ridge: Yes, you are. You're a wonderful mother.

Brooke: That's not what Stephanie told that woman.

Ridge: "That woman" is a trained social worker. She's not your enemy. She's just concerned about the welfare of those two kids.

Brooke: And you don't think I am?

Ridge: I think you need to go home and get some sleep. Please. Please, Brooke. Everything will look much better and different to you in the morning.

Brooke: No, everything will look better to me when you stop being your mother's puppet, and you stand up for me, Ridge, the way that you promised.

Nick: You're being manipulated. This woman would do anything to get revenge against Brooke Logan.

Dorothy: Stephanie didn't call me in on this case. The police did.

Stephanie: Thank God they did.

Nick: Need I say more?

Stephanie: I don't like Brooke. I am not the first mother-in-law to say that.

Nick: You hate her! And you would do anything to get her away from your family, including stealing her children.

Dorothy: Nobody is stealing anybody's children. They have been temporarily care until ms. Logan can get her parental fitness reassessed.

Nick: Parental fitness? You don't know Brooke. Nobody -- nobody loves those children more than she does.

Dorothy: It's not my place to judge how much she loves those children. My job is to determine whether or not she's capable of caring for them. I've -- I've got to leave. I've got to prepare for tomorrow's hearing.

Stephanie: Dorothy, I'll go with you. Will you grab that toy for Hope, please.

Nick: Keep your mouth shut, Stephanie. Let the woman make up her own mind.

Stephanie: I think that Brooke's life pretty much speaks for itself.

Nick: Don't take those children.

Stephanie: If Brooke loses custody of the children, it's not gonna be my fault. It's gonna be yours.

Ridge: That's really not fair.

Brooke: You're damn right it's not fair. You told me you would protect me from your mother.

Ridge: This isn't about her, Brooke. It's about you and what you're going through.

Brooke: It's about what she's putting me through. It's her revenge, Ridge. She's trying to destroy me and trying to take everything away from me that meant something to me.

Ridge: Oh, stop with this.

Brooke: She went straight for the heart. She took the one thing that truly mattered to me, my children. And now you're doing the same thing. Child Protective Services gave you the kids, and you just took them.

Ridge: Brooke, it was only temporary.

Brooke: Well, that's what you say, but I know better. I can see what's happening here. Your mother has gotten to you.

Ridge: Brooke, you're talking crazy again. You're getting all paranoid.

Brooke: No, I'm not! Ridge, if I were really the mother that you say I am, if I could truly be trusted, if you really believe that, I would have my kids right now, and I would be going home!

Taylor: Your lighter? Oh, Nick, that's terrible. Is everybody okay, though? Thank God. I'm sure Brooke must be beside herself --

[Knock at the door]

Stephanie: Are you talking on the phone with Nick?

Taylor: Hold on. Hold on, sweetheart. I'm in the middle of something.

Stephanie: Yes, but could you ask him to call back?

Taylor: There's been an accident at Brooke's.

Stephanie: I know, that's why I'm here.

Taylor: Yeah, it's Stephanie. All right. Don't worry. Okay, I'll see you at home. Love you. Bye.

Stephanie: He tell you not to trust me?

Taylor: He just told me you're trying to take Brooke's children away from her.

Stephanie: Look, Child Protective Services has placed the children in Ridge's custody for tonight. Look, Brooke's very upset, and whatever you're doing, I don't think it's helping.

Taylor: What I'm doing?

Stephanie: Well, I understand she came to you for treatment.

Taylor: I'm not treating her.

Stephanie: Have you talked to her?

Taylor: I spoke to her as a friend. In confidence.

Stephanie: Well, then that just confirms what I've been -- what I believe. I think she's desperate. I think she's in a real emotional crisis, and I think the children are at risk.

Taylor: Oh, my God, you are trying to take the kids away from her.

Stephanie: Taylor! Look, there's a hearing tomorrow in the family court. I think you should be there.

Taylor: Me?

Stephanie: Of course. If she has said anything to you at all about her ability to care for those children, you have to tell that to the judge.

Ashley: Brooke is so afraid, you know that? And any mother would be.

Ridge: She thinks I'm trying to keep the kids away from her, but it's not up to me. CPS placed them here. And if I tried to give them back to her --

Ashley: You couldn't do that.

Ridge: It doesn't mean I think she's a bad mother. She's not. She's an incredible mother. She's been a great mother to all of our kids, even Thomas and the girls.

Ashley: I know. The fire was an accident.

Ridge: Yeah, the fire.

Ashley: The kids -- the kids are okay, Ridge.

Ridge: You think they have any idea what's really going on here?

Ashley: With Brooke? No, I don't think so.

Ridge: They could have heard her -- accusations, the way she looked at me. I'm just trying to help her.

Ashley: There's nothing you could have said. She's not herself right now.

Ridge: She's been out of it for a while now. It kind of scares me, 'cause if she goes into court like that, the way she burst in here, it's gonna hurt herself worse than anyone else possibly could.

Nick: Brooke.

Brooke: My babies, my babies.

Nick: They okay?

Brooke: They're with Ridge. He wouldn't let me see them.

Nick: I'm sorry.

Brooke: It's Stephanie. She got to him.

Nick: And the CPS agent.

Brooke: Did you see her?

Nick: They were both here when I showed up. I tried to tell that woman that Stephanie's behind it, but she wouldn't listen.

Brooke: They're trying to take the kids away, Nick.

Nick: That's not going to happen.

Brooke: There's a hearing tomorrow.

Nick: And I'll be first one on the stand to explain it to the judge. That this was all my fault. Playing with a lighter like that around children. I'm sorry, I --

Brooke: No, no. It's not just that. It's not the fire. It's Stephanie. She's going to point out every single mistake that I have ever made in my business, in my personal life, with the family. She's going to do everything she possibly can to make sure that I never, never see my children again.

Taylor: Brooke is going through something, and that's all I'm gonna say.

Stephanie: Should the children go through it with her?

Taylor: But to be removed from their home? Even I wouldn't advocate that unless it was under the most extreme circumstances.

Stephanie: Well, what are these circumstances? She left them alone all night long. The kids were terrified. And less that 24 hours later, there's a fire. The fire department came, Ridge came. My God, what would have happened if they hadn't?

Taylor: It was an accident because Nick left his lighter there.

Stephanie: That's my point. Brooke is so distracted, she didn't even see them playing with it.

Taylor: Well, mothers get distracted, and children are prone to accidents.

Stephanie: Yes, I know that, Taylor. But I think this is a pattern, and I think it's a pattern that could get worse.

Taylor: Yeah, but you can't just take them away from their mother. I mean, that would even make Brooke spiral down faster.

Stephanie: Is it worth the risk letting the children go down with her?

Taylor: Okay, Stephanie. I totally get it here. I get what's going on. You want me to believe that your whole concern is about the kids.

Stephanie: It is.

Taylor: You don't think seeing Brooke suffer just a little bit wouldn't be the icing on the cake? I really think this has a little bit more to do with Brooke even than it does the children.

Stephanie: Brooke is the problem. We need to solve it.

Taylor: No, it's up to CPS. This is what they do. This is their job. Let them handle it.

Stephanie: But that's what's going to happen tomorrow at the hearing. They need witnesses. So if you have something to say, you need to be there and say it.

Taylor: No, no, Stephanie. No, I'm not getting involved in this. Just forget it. This is the last time I'm talking about it, so drop it.

Ashley: You're doing the right thing.

Ridge: Nothing feels right about this. Brooke hits a rough time, and now everybody's trying to make decisions about my family.

Ashley: Ridge, you have to keep focusing on the most important thing. Your children are okay.

Ridge: Right. Right. Thank you.

Ashley: You sure I haven't been in the way?

Ridge: Actually, you've helped me keep all this in perspective. I need that right now. I need you.

Ashley: You got me.

Nick: As long as I'm around, nobody's takin' those kids from you.

Brooke: But Stephanie --

Nick: I can make everything that she says to that judge suspect.

Brooke: Do you think they'll let her testify?

Nick: It doesn't matter. I'll make sure everybody in that courtroom understands that what she says is just a vendetta against you.

Brooke: Well, what if it's the agent's word against mine? If Stephanie just fills in on this history --

Nick: It's not going to stand up, Brooke.

Brooke: They can check public records. There's police reports. There's 911 calls from the house. They already know that hope almost drowned in the hot tub.

Nick: Let's not forget who we're talking about here, okay? The Forresters. And they got a hell of a lot more skeletons in their closet than you do. More! Don't let them intimidate you. And don't let them think that you're a bad mother. Because if anybody has the title locked up there, it's Stephanie.

Brooke: Yeah. Now she's got Ridge on her side.

Nick: Well, you got me on yours.

Brooke: Ridge is R.J.'s father.

Nick: Brooke, haven't I been the closest thing to a father to Hope that she's ever had?

Brooke: Do you know how awful that sounds?

Nick: Maybe coming out of Stephanie's mouth, it does, but I say that with pride. You know how precious that little girl is to me. And you could have stopped me from seeing her when we split up, when you found out Taylor was pregnant, but you didn't. No matter how you felt about it, you didn't stop me from seeing her because you know how happy that little girl is around me, and you put her feelings first. And if that's not the definition of a good mother, well, I just don't know what is.

Brooke: Nick, I've got four children with three different fathers. Two of them are related, and the other one is out of the picture. Now, there's a definition for that, too. And it's called bad choices. And if Stephanie has her way, she's going to make me defend every single one of them in court.

Nick: That's why you're going into that hearing tomorrow confident, because you didn't do anything wrong, and the judge is gonna see that. We'll make sure the judge sees that.

[Phone rings]

Brooke: Hello?

Dorothy: Yes, is this Brooke Logan?

Brooke: Yes.

Dorothy: This is Dorothy Bascomb from the Child Protective Services. I'm calling about the emergency hearing regarding your minor children. The hearing will be scheduled for 11:00 A.M. tomorrow, County Courtroom 220. Will you have representation?

Brooke: Yes. I've talked to my brother. We will be there.

Ridge: Come on in.

Stephanie: How are the children?

Ridge: Sleeping.

Stephanie: I saw Ashley pulling out just as I came in.

Ridge: Thanks for bringing the kids stuff, but I could use a little time alone.

Stephanie: I know Brooke was here.

Ridge: I don't want to talk about that.

Stephanie: You know, honey, she just is not thinking clearly.

Ridge: She's upset, mother. So am I.

Stephanie: Well, you have every right to be. Thank God you got to the house when you did. Who knows what could have happened. Her distraction, I mean, it could have cost those children their lives.

Ridge: Okay, enough about Brooke.

Stephanie: Ridge, they were playing with that lighter right under her nose --

Ridge: Mother, not another word, okay?

Stephanie: What'd she say to you?

Ridge: She wanted to take Hope and R.J. home with her.

Stephanie: You didn't let her.

Ridge: Now she thinks I'm trying to steal the kids.

Stephanie: All we want -- all everybody wants is for those children to be safe.

Ridge: That's what Brooke wants, too.

Stephanie: Well, she'll have a chance to tell them that and prove that tomorrow. Until then, the best place for the children is here with you.

Ridge: Just temporarily. I don't want full custody.

Stephanie: Well, that's up to Child Protective Services. You know, they're going to say what they have to say to the judge. Brooke will have a chance to say what she believes and feels. It's out of our hands, honey. Ridge, they're going to be okay. And you're going to be okay. Whatever happens. If you or the children need me, I'm here for you, okay?

Ridge: Iím going to go check on the kids again.

Nick: Good, you're still here.

Taylor: Oh. How's Brooke?

Nick: She's devastated. She's alone. The kids are with Ridge. He wouldn't let her see them.

Taylor: She went to the house?

Nick: She wants her kids back.

Taylor: Yeah, but that isn't the way to do it. CPS is involved now.

Nick: How do you know that?

Taylor: Stephanie.

Nick: Why is she dragging you into this?

Taylor: Because you told her that I was helping Brooke. And now she wants me to go to court tomorrow and testify.

Nick: To testify? You told her no, right? You told her you wouldn't?

Taylor: I mean, all I want to do is what's best for Hope and R.J.

Nick: What's best for those children is being with their mother.

Taylor: Nick, Brooke is really struggling right now.

Nick: Oh, come on, Taylor. We all struggle. You and I have had our struggles. Does that mean we're not going to be good parents?

Taylor: I didn't say anything to Stephanie whether or not I would go.

Nick: Oh, you will go. We're both going to be there. And we're going to speak on Brooke's behalf. And we're going to get her kids back with her, where they belong.
