Dr. Caron: Bridget, you can't be thinking that --

Bridget: What? There was a mix-up in the lab? That's exactly what I'm thinking.

Dr. Caron: Oh, no. We have safeguards. You know that.

Bridget: My mother's eggs were supposed to be used for a research project. They were delivered to the fertility lab by mistake, the same night that Nick and Taylor's donor eggs were due to be fertilized. Both batches were in the lab at the same time. And both batches were labeled Marone. What if the eggs that were fertilized with Nick's sperm -- what if they were my mother's?

Nick: Here you go.

Taylor: Crackers?

Nick: Mm-hmm. They're for pregnant seasick ladies.

Taylor: I lost all credibility, haven't I? Yeah, you'll never take me on the water again.

Nick: Oh, no, those our very extenuating circumstances. Very special, extenuating circumstances.

Taylor: I don't think there's anything special about morning sickness.

Nick: Everything about having a child is special, dear.

Taylor: Well, I'll ask you to remind me that the next time I feel like --

Nick: Tossing your cookies?

Taylor: Yeah. Oh, the hospital called. They found your jacket.

Nick: That's where I left it! The hospital.

Taylor: After the ultrasound. So, you might want to go up and get it.

Nick: Well, I can't leave you here all sick.

Taylor: No, I'm fine. I'm fine. We're good.

Nick: Okay. Well, here. I won't be long. Take care of yourself. Just in case.

Brooke: I meant what I said. I won't let them convict you without a fight.

Ridge: Come on, Logan. How can you do that? I'm looking at first-degree homicide.

Brooke: We'll get your charges reduced.

Ridge: How? I got a record against me. You can't just make that go away.

Brooke: I have a plan.

Rick: Ashley? Ashley? Ashley. Mexican hat flowers. You said you wanted to use them in your fragrance. So, here are the statistics you wanted.

Ashley: Reading my mind.

Rick: We can do this another time, if you wanted to.

Ashley: Why, because of Mexico? I don't have a problem with that. Do you?

Rick: No. No.

Ashley: Good. I'm glad.

[Doorbell rings]

Taylor: Oh, what do you want?

Stephanie: Taylor, we have to talk. Look, we know that Ridge didn't kill that boy. It was an accident.

Taylor: Unlike what you did. That was not an accident, was it, Stephanie?

Stephanie: Well, you know how I feel about Nick. And the crimes that he's committed against my family.

Taylor: Save it. Because I don't have to listen to you. You're not a part of my life anymore. You're not a part of any of our lives. And don't even think that I'm just going to forgive you and let you back in. And you will never be a part of this baby's life. This is my baby.

Dr. Caron: We don't have enough information. There's no point speculating.

Bridget: Okay, no speculating. Panicking or hyperventilating -- is that okay, is that allowed?

Dr. Caron: Only one petri dish went into the incubator with Nick's sperm.

Bridget: I know that. But whose eggs? Which Marone eggs?

Dr. Caron: We have to gather more information.

Bridget: Starting with the eggs that were not used. We need to make sure that those eggs belong to my mother.

Ashley: So, how's your mom holding up?

Rick: Since Ridge's confession?

Ashley: Mm-hmm.

Rick: She's hanging in there.

Ashley: That's some complicated history.

Rick: Tell me about it.

Ashley: So, what was that like for you?

Rick: What?

Ashley: You know, being a little boy, growing up.

Rick: There's never a dull moment.

Ashley: I bet. Your parents are both very dynamic people. Especially Brooke.

Rick: Dynamic? Is that a euphemism?

Ashley: I've heard that she's had a very interesting life.

Rick: You should go into politics.

Ashley: That would be my brother.

Rick: It runs in the family.

Ashley: So, was it always so exciting? Having Brooke for a mom?

Rick: Yeah. I mean, there was always a different man around. It seemed like a parade of them at times. And your parents split up too, right?

Ashley: Yeah, my mom walked out on us when I was ten.

Rick: Ten? It sounds rough.

Ashley: Yeah, it was rough, darn it. But I think we were talking about you. And what it was like to be Brooke's son.

Rick: It's like what you said before. I mean, it was exciting, interesting.

Ashley: Not in a good way, though, always?

Rick: There was a lot of drama. A lot of turmoil, yeah. You know, when things blew up, like they almost always inevitability did, Bridget and I had to be there to pick up the pieces. Make my mom feel better, prop her up.

Ashley: It's sad.

Rick: Don't get the wrong impression. I mean, I love my mom --

Ashley: Yeah, I'm sure.

Rick: And she always wanted what was best for her kids. It's just --

Ashley: It's difficult to get any sense of stability.

Rick: Yeah.

Ashley: Right. With all the men coming in and out of your life. Father figures --

Rick: Not all of them.

Ridge: Are you sure you want to put Rick through that?

Brooke: What's my alternative? Let you rot in here until the state moves you to an even more luxurious setting?

Ridge: It's good to know my comfort is first and foremost.

Brooke: No, Ridge, it's our son. I really want him to have a father in his life. I wasn't able to give that to Rick. I want things to be different with R.J.

Ridge: Even if it means doing something that would severely damage his brother?

Brooke: When I weigh the potential damage to you, being locked up in prison until you're in your 70s --

Ridge: Why, thank you, sweetie.

Brooke: No, you fight right along with me. Believe in your innocence as much as I do.

Dr. Caron: The computer records for both labs, fertility and research. Right. And I also need to know who was on duty the night of the Marone fertilization, which lab technicians.

Nick: Did I hear my name?

Bridget: Nick! Hi.

Nick: That's what I heard.

Dr. Caron: Oh, we were just doing a procedure and we wanted the same folks to do the lab work that did yours and Taylor's.

Nick: Oh, that's a good choice.

Dr. Caron: I'll go see what I can find out.

Nick: Thanks.

Bridget: Um, is everything okay? There's nothing wrong, is there?

Nick: No, no. You know, I left my coat here at the hospital. Yeah, and Taylor got a call --

Bridget: How is she? How's she doing?

Nick: She's good. Good. I guess, well, not totally. You know, the nausea, morning --

Bridget: Oh, morning sickness, yeah --

Nick: Yeah, exactly. Is there anything you can give her for that? Nothing you can do?

Bridget: Not really. It's perfectly normal. It just means that her hormones are at work.

Nick: Well, the funny thing is, she didn't have that with her other kids.

Bridget: Really? Well, you know, every pregnancy is unique that way.

Nick: I guess so. Plus we went with a donor. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Bridget: Yeah. It's possible.

Stephanie: I'm sorry that you hate me so much.

Taylor: I don't hate you. I'm appalled. I mean, that was low, even for you.

Stephanie: You know what's appalling to me? That idea that my son would spend the rest of his life in a penitentiary.

Taylor: Did you just show up here, and you're expecting some sympathy? Is that it?

Stephanie: Taylor, what I want is you to help me to keep the father of your children out of jail. I don't think he could survive that.

Taylor: Well, you know, maybe you should have thought of that before you told him to go screw Nick over.

Stephanie: All right, be angry. Be -- berate me all you want. Don't take your anger out on Ridge. He needs your support.

[Knock on the door]

Brooke: Stephanie's right, Taylor. What happened with Shane was not first degree murder. Ridge handled it poorly, but that doesn't mean he deserves to lose everything because of it.

Taylor: And Nick did?

Stephanie: Look, I'm asking you, please --

Taylor: I'm not a lawyer! I'm not a magician!

Brooke: You're a mother. And you're a psychiatrist. A good one. And that's what we need.

Taylor: Why do you need a psychiatrist?

Brooke: There's a chance that we could get Ridge's charges reduced with your help.

Taylor: What kind of help? What could I possibly do?

Brooke: Get Rick to remember that he shot Grant.

Ashley: Grant Chambers, what's his story?

Rick: He was a fashion designer, my mom was married to him.

Ashley: Were they together long?

Rick: I don't think my mom was with anybody for very long.

Ashley: You don't like talking about him.

Rick: Let's just say that, some things are better left buried in the past.

Nick: Well, I'm sure you're busy.

Bridget: Oh, yeah. Well, give my best to Taylor, will you?

Nick: Yeah, I will. Listen, as long as I'm here --

Lab technician: Excuse me, doctor? You wanted to see me?

Bridget: Oh, no. Not right now. Can you just give me five minutes?

Lab technician: Okay.

Bridget: Thanks. Oh, you're right. It's -- it's really hectic.

Nick: Yeah, yeah. I see that. Listen, I just wanted to thank you.

Bridget: For what?

Nick: Well, for what you've -- what you've done, your support. Taylor and I are just grateful to you. Thanks.

Taylor: Brooke, we've already discussed this.

Brooke: Yes, when the goal was peace between Ridge and Rick. It didn't seem worth the risk. But now the stakes are much higher.

Stephanie: So, what are you exactly suggesting?

Brooke: Well, we can't go straight to the D.A. I mean, they're not going to listen to us. We need cooperation. So, you need to talk to Rick in a protective setting, get him to remember --

Stephanie: Oh, and then maybe he would come forward? And he would -- well, admit that he shot grant, right? Why are you so quiet?

Taylor: You guys, I've got concerns.

Stephanie: Well I'm sure you do. What are they?

Taylor: Rick was traumatized. That's why he doesn't even remember the incident. We don't even know what kind it impact it could have him, try to force him to remember this. He may not even be able to recover emotionally in time for the trial.

Brooke: I'm sure there are serious emotional scars. Otherwise, he would have remembered the shooting a long time ago. But whatever Rick has to go through, it can't be worse than what Ridge will have to go through if he goes to prison.

Phoebe: You're not glad to see me?

Ridge: This is no place for you, sweetie.

Phoebe: It's no place for you, either, Dad. You don't belong here. We're going to get you out.

Ridge: Don't get your hopes up. I have to serve time. There's no way around that.

Phoebe: Well, you can think whatever you want, but I'm trying to stay positive.

Ridge: I'm counting on that.

Phoebe: Just so you know, Rick and I are still taking things slowly. I mean, we're not doing anything you wouldn't want us to do. I haven't changed my mind about that.

Ridge: You're doing that for me?

Phoebe: Well, I don't know, I don't want you to worry. I just want you home.

Ashley: Are you okay?

Rick: Look, about what happened --

Ashley: Yeah, what about it?

Rick: We've been through a lot, you and I. We shared quite a bit. And it ended very abruptly. Look, I know that you don't think it's over. Phoebe and I are in love. But Ashley, that doesn't mean that --

[Phone rings]

Ashley: Hello, lab. Sure, I'll be right there.

Rick: What are you doing?

Ashley: Your father wants to see me.

Rick: But you don't think we need to talk about this?

Ashley: Talk about what?

Rick: This, Ashley! But -- I don't want there to be any bad, awkward feelings between us.

Ashley: There aren't. I mean it. There aren't.

Rick: Okay. You've got to stop this. Whatever it is you're doing, it's driving me crazy. And you know it.

Ashley: I'm not doing anything. Excuse me.

Brooke: Ridge was trying to protect Rick because that's the kind of person that he is. But now, the truth has to come out.

Taylor: Brooke, this is your son. Do you realize what you'll be putting him through?

Brooke: Yes. I do, but I trust you, Taylor. And he trusts you. Please, will you do this?

Taylor: I can work with him. But I'm not promising anything.

Brooke: No, no, I understand. As long as there's some way we might be able to help Ridge.

Stephanie: I'll call the district attorney's office then --

Taylor: No! Can you imagine Ridge's mother and his two ex-wives walking in there, with some kind of story?

Stephanie: But it isn't a story, it's the truth. Ridge never shot anyone in his life and he shouldn't be punished as if he did.

Brooke: But you're right. We can't go forward. They're not going to listen to us. It has to be Rick.

Taylor: And it has to be voluntary. Any confession he makes cannot look coerced. Not that he has anything to confess right now. He doesn't even remember shooting Grant. And to tell you the truth, this may have been so traumatic; he may not ever remember it.

Ridge: What's this I hear about you being a famous singer?

Phoebe: Yeah, right.

Ridge: Constantine's a good guy. He's reputable. His recording company is legit. If you wanted to do a few songs with him, I would give you my blessing. But please, please, please, do not sign any contracts unless your mommy or me look at them.

Phoebe: Dad?

Ridge: What?

Phoebe: Like I'm going to launch a new career while you're in here?

Ridge: Look, sweetie, do not put your life on hold because of my problems. The company needs you, too. You're the one little shining star we still have here.

Phoebe: I'm not neglecting my job. I mean, I do need some free time.

Ridge: Oh, so you can spend time with Rick.

Phoebe: Hey, I said taking it slow, not nonexistent. Oh, boy, here it comes.

Ridge: Rick's life, I told you this --

Phoebe: Is so complicated.

Ridge: Yes, it is. It's still complicated and that's not really going to change anytime soon.

Lab technician #1: Okay, so there were two petri dishes in the lab that night. Both marked Marone.

Bridget: I do not understand how that could happen. My mother's frozen eggs were never, ever intended for IDs. They were earmarked for the research project that Dr. Kumar's doing. It had no business being in the fertility lab.

Lab technician #1: When you told us to make sure the Marone eggs were --

Bridget: You made an assumption, it was based on what?

Lab technician #1: Brooke Marone's your mother, why else would you be involved?

Dr. Caron: You don't usually do those kinds of procedures.

Bridget: There's no excuse for not double-checking, doctor.

Dr. Caron: The donor eggs were in the lab as well.

Bridget: Well, thank God for small miracles.

Lab technician #1: Why are you so upset? What do you think happened?

Bridget: Isn't it obvious?

Dr. Caron: Which eggs were fertilized that night? Do either one of you know?

Lab technician #2: Well, I just remember thinking how interesting it was that you were using your mother's eggs.

Bridget: Oh, dear, so you remember handing me "b" Marone eggs.

Lab technician #2: Yeah, I believe so.

Bridget: How certain are you?

Lab technician: 99%.

Bridget: Okay, so you're not absolutely positive. You could have handed me the donor's eggs. How can we check this?

Dr. Caron: No, I'm sorry. We can't. The night in question, it was over a month ago. All the evidence would have been destroyed by now. I'm sorry.

Bridget: So you're saying, bottom line --

Dr. Caron: The bottom line is, we don't know if Nick's sperm was used to fertilize the donor's eggs or Brooke's. We just don't know.
