Stephanie: What are you doing out on that boat?
Stephanie: What is in that bag? Why didn't you bring it back?
Brooke: Honey, I could've cooked, you know.
Bridget: No, it's fine. The hospital cafeteria does really good Thai, actually.
Brooke: So, this is how you eat now, food from the cafeteria?
Bridget: Well, they do have a nutritionist. Mom, I could have brought you something. I thought you said you already ate?
Brooke: It's okay. I'm just nibbling. Do you know what I am starved for, is some adult company. Adult company who doesn't hate me.
Bridget: It's gotten that bad?
Brooke: You know, you think that Stephanie would be happy that I'm out of Ridge's life, but she came over here and she demanded that I stay away from -- everyone else.
Bridget: Like who, for instance? Who is she watchdogging now? Mom please, you don't have to stumble over Nick's name. I'm over him. Can I tell you something? I've done what you're doing. It's just poison. I had to finally accept that Nick and I were never going to work out. And I think it's time that you did the same thing.
Nick: Why are my cigars in the sink? Phoebe. Women and boats. Harbormaster, Shady Marlin II.
Harbormaster: Come in Shady Marlin II.
Nick: I'm going out for a couple of hours, no destination. Taking the new rig for a spin, over.
Stephanie: Ridge? [Knock on the door] Ridge, I know you're in there. Ridge, I want to talk to you for a moment, please. Ridge?
Ridge: Sorry. I must have fallen asleep at my desk.
Stephanie: Oh. Oh, I see. And then you sleepwalked over and locked the door?
Brooke: Honey, I really appreciate that you tell me what you're thinking and feeling, but that doesn't mean you're always right.
Bridget: Thanks, mom. I'm trying to understand why Stephanie is suddenly such a cheerleader for Taylor marrying Nick.
Brooke: Because what Taylor wants, Taylor gets. I guess Stephanie is trying to redeem herself. They haven't really been on speaking terms lately --
Bridget: Are you sure it's not because Taylor is already pregnant?
Brooke: She isn't.
Brooke: That's why I need to make Nick understand now.
Bridget: Okay, well explain to me what you've done to make Nick understand.
Brooke: Pretty much everything.
Bridget: Okay, and?
Brooke: I've hurt him deeply, Bridget. I think I was more in the wrong than we was.
Bridget: Two things, mother. First of all, I think you need a keeper. So, Rick is going to move back in here.
Brooke: No, no, I don't need that.
Bridget: Yes, you do. He wants to. He's going to. End of story. Secondly, we all want what we can't have, it's natural. It's just human nature. But with you, it's a way of life. Look, I'm sorry if it seems like I'm being cruel. I -- I really don't want you to go through everything that I had to go through. I read somewhere recently, I can't remember who said it. But hope can be a virtue, but it can also be a vice.
Brooke: I didn't tell you what my biggest mistake was. I didn't tell Nick, either.
Nick: Not quite as noisy as the old girl. But not a love affair yet. There's no chain on the anchor. I got a boat with no chain on the anchor! Women and boats.
Stephanie: I thought you were spending the evening with Ashley.
Stephanie: Yeah, she's not locked in here with you, is she?
Ridge: I must have slept through it. I -- I haven't been getting a whole lot of sleep since I came back from Sydney.
Stephanie: Something troubling you?
Ridge: I don't like standing anybody up, Mother. I'm going to call her right now.
Stephanie: Has this anything to do with Taylor marrying Nick?
Stephanie: Look, I just don't think we should do anything, you know, give him any sort of ammunition that he could use at a later date against us.
Ridge: I don't give a damn what he does or who he marries.
Stephanie: Then why were you on his boat tonight?
Ridge: I told you I was here.
Stephanie: I know that you weren't. And so does Ashley. Because she was looking for you. I can see that you've done something, and it's frightening you. And it's now starting to frighten me. I saw you in the parking garage. I followed you down to the marina. I saw you carry something out of your car, onto Nick's boat and go out -- go out the bay and then come back. And when you came back, you do not have that -- that item with you. Whatever it was.
Ridge: Shane McGrath.
Stephanie: I'm talking about tonight, honey.
Ridge: He was here.
Stephanie: Shane? When?
Ridge: A couple of hours ago. He came here, he was all crazy and desperate. And he had a gun.
Stephanie: Oh, God.
Ridge: I tried to tell him that I would get him help and he put the gun to his head.
Stephanie: Are you saying that he was suicidal?
Ridge: I tried to get the gun away from him, Mother. We fought over it and it went off.
Stephanie: He's dead? You dumped his body in Santa Monica Bay?
Nick: A boat with no anchor is a boat that needs to go home.
Brooke: Nick asked me to have a child and I said no. I don't need to tell you of all people how much he wanted that. But he loved me so much that he accepted my decision. That would have changed everything. You know it would have.
Bridget: Probably so.
Brooke: But having a baby after forty isn't easy. And you and Nick, you had just lost a child. And I didn't want to put him through that all over again. And I was selfish. I was very happy with my life and my career. I didn't want the inconvenience.
Bridget: Have you told Nick all this?
Brooke: No. He just started trying with Taylor and it just seemed -- I don't know. Maybe you're right. Maybe it would've made a difference. But it certainly would have made a difference if I said yes back then. I was just so sure of Nick. And I just took all of that love for granted.
Bridget: Mom, I'm sorry.
Stephanie: Why didn't you call the police?
Ridge: Because all I had in my mind was grant. Remember Grant Chambers?
Stephanie: Yes. But my God, that was years ago.
Ridge: Remember what the judge said, about me bringing brought up on any weapons related charge again? What would happen --
Stephanie: Ridge -- Ridge.
Ridge: Mother look, I know this is all stupid, but I didn't feel like spending the rest of my life in prison. This is some desperate, stupid kid that wanted to kill himself and probably would have anyway.
Stephanie: What exactly did you do with him?
Ridge: I put his body in a garment bag, tied the anchor chain around it, and I threw him overboard.
Stephanie: And the gun?
Ridge: I threw it in, too.
Stephanie: This isn't good, Ridge. This isn't good.
Ridge: Yeah well, I know what I have to do.
Stephanie: Who are you going to call?
Ridge: I'm calling the police.
Stephanie: Oh, put that phone down right now.
Ridge: Mother, a lot of people know exactly how unstable he was.
Stephanie: That's not going to matter, Ridge. The only question the police are going to ask, is who dumps dead bodies in Santa Monica Bay? Murderers do.
Nick: I need to see you. There's fast and there's sonic fast.
Stephanie: Did anyone in the building see you?
Ridge: No, there wasn't anybody here.
Stephanie: Well, Ashley was here and so was I. We heard the gunshot. I told her that I thought it was just -- just the freight elevator. Was Shane living in his car?
Stephanie: Well, do we know where it is? I mean, don't you think we have to find it? Does he have a family?
Ridge: I think he was adopted. I don't think he'd seen his adopted parents in a long, long time.
Stephanie: Then maybe he won't be missed for a while. Let's hope for a long time.
Ridge: I took a life, Mother.
Stephanie: I know you did. But it was an accident. I don't suppose there's a person whose instinct wouldn't try to help somebody, stop somebody from killing themselves. It's what you did afterwards. That's what's wrong. Ridge, what's done is done.
Ridge: I knew what the right thing to do was. This little voice inside my head kept telling me that no one was going to believe me, that all they'd think about was the anger and the threats of the last while, you know, punching the hell out of Rick.
Stephanie: Well, we know what the first order of business is, don't we?
Brooke: Come in. Did something happen?
Nick: Yeah, you could say that.
Brooke: Something to do with Taylor?
Nick: No. This doesn't have to do with her.
Nick: I was just out on the Marlin. The new Marlin. But it wasn't new. This thing has been happening between us. You coming to me and saying that we could have the life that we had, telling me that you made a mistake.
Brooke: I did make a mistake.
Nick: Telling me that we could put this family back together. Telling me that you still love me.
Brooke: I do. I do still love you and we can put this family back together.
Nick: Brooke --
Brooke: Nick, you are the very first thing I think about every single morning. I keep having this dream that we're in this house and I ask the people where you are. And they keep telling me upstairs. And every time I go up there, I see you walking away. I see your back. And I keep calling to you, and you obviously don't hear me. But I try to reach you, but I can't because there's always something or someone in the way. And I wish to God I didn't love you this much. I do, but I have these feelings inside of me that are so much there, that I -- I feel that you think the same way. And --
Nick: Well, the reason you think that way is because it's true. The feelings are the same for me. They're still there and they're not going away. Because I don't know how to not love you.
