Nick: You said that you made a mistake, and you don't want to hurt me. But don't you see, Brooke? Don't you see that is exactly what you're doing now?

Rick: You look -- wow.

Phoebe: This is our first official date, right?

Rick: Yeah, and I don't put on a tie for just anybody.

Phoebe: Uh-huh. Well, you almost ready?

Rick: Uh, yeah. Just about.

[Phone rings] Oh, Phoebe, no, no, no, don't -- don't get that. People keep sending calls over here about my mother's resignation.

Phoebe: Well, what do you say?

Rick: Well, as little as I can, over and over again.

Phoebe: Well, do they ask if she's going back to Forrester Creations?

Rick: Yeah, that is the question.

Phoebe: Well, is she?

Rick: It only makes sense now, wouldn't it?

Phoebe: Rick, no, she can't do that.

Rick: Why not?

Phoebe: Because the only reason she would be going back is to get closer to Nick. If she asked you, you need to tell her no.

Ridge: Sorry?

Ashley: Okay, well, there's worse insults than being kissed by you.

Ridge: No, I didn't intend it to be an insult. Maybe that's just the way I deal with a bruised ego.

Ashley: I've heard that about you, actually.

Ridge: Oh, don't tell me that I'm that notorious?

Ashley: You are, sorry.

Ridge: I guess I'll just have to find another way to make myself feel better.

Ashley: Okay, well, it kind of worked for me.

Ridge: Yeah, well, thank you for that. For some reason, I feel like I need to put the breaks on here.

Ashley: Okay.

[Doorbell rings]

Taylor: You are really early --

Stephanie: I guess you're expecting Nick. And celebrating perhaps, a pregnancy?

Taylor: Well, that's what we will be doing, if I am pregnant, yes.

Stephanie: You're going to find out tonight?

Taylor: What are you doing here?

Stephanie: Well, I'm here because I love you and I'm concerned that maybe you're throwing yourself away on someone who's not worthy of you.

Taylor: No, no, please. No, you think Nick is the only thing in the world that can keep Brooke away from your beloved son, and really, who gives a damn about my life and how happy I am and my future, right?

Stephanie: I do. I do. Since when has Brooke being with one man ever kept her away from another man? I mean, we're not dealing with a normal woman here. I'm worried that Nick is using you and you don't see it.

Brooke: Hurting you is not what I want.

Nick: Brooke, you made it clear what you wanted when you asked for a divorce.

Nick: I know and I was wrong. I always have one foot in and one foot outside of the marriage. I didn't realize it until this whole thing ended with Ridge, but I see it now. Why doesn't make the difference to you?

Nick: Because it's too late.

Brooke: Look, I know you don't want to hurt Taylor. But how can we do this? How can we resist each other, Nick? We tried before, it didn't work.

Nick: I'm not resisting anything. No, not this time. This is more about you not taking no for an answer. Look, I'm going.

Brooke: No, wait. Please.

Hope: Nick!

Nick: Hope! What are you doing here? Hi, honey.

Brooke: Honey, I thought Donna was taking you to a movie?

Donna: I'm right here. Well, the movie was a little dull for us. And well, Hope wanted to see Nick. And -- I'm sorry, I didn't realize you'd be here.

Hope: Can we see the boat? It's all brand-new now.

Nick: The boat is brand-new. But honey, we're going to have to see it another time. I didn't know you were free tonight. I got to go to dinner.

Hope: Okay, but after dinner, then can you come home?

Rick: Phoebe, my mother knows that company inside and out.

Phoebe: Well, that's not the point.

Rick: Maybe to Nick.

Phoebe: Brooke wants him back, doesn't she? I know you know. I mean, you're probably all in favor of it.

Rick: Everyone has a right to their own private conversations, Phoebe.

Phoebe: You won't tell me?

Rick: And a right to their own private feelings.

Phoebe: That's your answer? So basically what you're saying, yes, Brooke's after Nick and you're just standing by, rooting her on. I mean, if I'm wrong, then just tell me.

Stephanie: How many times has Nick threatened to hurt my family? And it's just not the business --

Taylor: Oh, so I'm just a means to an end? Wow, that's great that you really think that's all I'm worth. FYI, Nick wants nothing to do with any of you.

Stephanie: Then why is he so anxious to marry into the family?

Taylor: Oh, wait, I'm only a member of this family when you want something from me.

Stephanie: You don't mean that.

Taylor: I mean, for you to stand there and tell me that Nick is using me is absolutely absurd when the fact is, the only pawn I've been to anybody has been to you. And those days are over.

Stephanie: I'm sorry. Sometimes it's easy to forget other people's pains. I know I've hurt you and I know you think I betrayed you --

Taylor: No, I don't think you did. I know you did.

Stephanie: I guess you're never going to let me make it up to you, are you? But I do love you and I always will, sweetheart.

Taylor: Yeah, but it's conditional on me doing what you want. What about what I want? Is it not okay for me just be happy, unless it's on your terms?

Stephanie: All right. Can we just -- can we just put the anger aside for a moment, and can we just talk honestly? Is this notion of having a baby with Nick -- are you clinging to this because you've lost so much and you're afraid if you don't have a baby with him, you'll lose him too?

Taylor: That I'm doing this to keep Brooke out of the picture, is that what you mean? Okay. You know what? That is a fair question. And I thought about that a lot. And the answer is no. This is for me. I want to have a child. I want to start a new life. I want a clean slate, I want all of it. You know, I missed watching part of my children's lives growing up. Have you ever thought about that? My husband alienated me after I risked everything to come back home to him. What about that, Stephanie? This is what I want. I finally got a man who loves me and he wants to be with me and his loyalties aren't divided. This is a chance for me. I finally have a chance to do it right.

Stephanie: All right, Taylor, if this is what you want, then no one should stand in your way.

Taylor: Thank you.

Ashley: You know, I wasn't suggesting that I was going to rip off my clothes and jump on you and do it on the floor -- but I was thinking of possibly running around town in your hot little sport car, tossing back champagne cocktails and dancing till dawn, now that sounded like fun. That's all.

Ridge: There are probably a lot of little places around L.A. I could take you. But unfortunately, there aren't any of them I haven't already taken Brooke. And I just don't want to deal with all the people that would know her or that would give the sad eye look that they already knew. I don't want to deal with it.

Ashley: Ew, yuck, sounds awful. I don't want any part of that. And I know all about the perils of rebounding.

Ridge: And if I was going to go crazy, and stay up all night, I might as well to it right here in the office, right? Where I can actually get something done. I'm sorry if I --

Ashley: Don't apologize. No, no, no. If it's not right, it's not right. It's okay.

Ridge: Okay. Okay.

Ashley: Bye.

Ridge: Bye.

Hope: Now, pick a card.

Nick: Okay.

Hope: Don't show me.

Nick: All right, I won't show you. Now what?

Hope: Now cut the cards.

Nick: Okay, I'm going to cut them right there.

Hope: Is this your card?

Nick: Oh, that's it!

Hope: There's a sucker born every minute.

Nick: Well, I'm certainly one of those. You thirsty? Donna? Do you know where my extra special milk area is?

Donna: I sure do.

Hope: Go along with Donna. Okay?

Hope: Mommy, can I stay up until Nick comes home?

Brooke: Honey, Nick has his own place to live --

Nick: Do you want to come to the boat on Saturday?

Hope: Okay.

Nick: Good. We'll do it Saturday.

Donna: Okay --

Brooke: Could you really love another child more than you love her?

Nick: Come on. That's not fair.

Brooke: I don't see any obstacles to adoption proceedings, if that's what you really want.

Nick: Adoption? Brooke, what the hell are you talking about?

Brooke: Nick, I'm just letting you know that I'm willing to turn my life around for you and everything. My family, my career, working here with you, side by side, just the way you wanted it --

Nick: You don't get it, do you? I mean, you really just don't get it. Pain just seems to roll off you like water. Well, that's not the way it is with me. You're the first woman I've ever loved. Now, it's destroyed right in front of my face and I had to live with that. Well, now you do to!

Brooke: Can you not understand it could be different now? You are holding on to what went wrong. What about everything that was so right?

Nick: I remember -- I remember everything that was right. Our wedding day, I remember every second of our honeymoon. And I also remember what it felt like when you asked for a divorce so you could marry someone else. That I can tell you all about. Taylor's waiting. I have to go. Tell hope that --

Brooke: She knows that you love her. That's all that matters. That's all that matters to both of us.

Nick: Stop that! Stop manipulating me.

Brooke: I'm not Nick! I'm being as honest and as real as I know how. I want you in my life.

Nick: But what do you want to do? Tell me! What do you want to do? Come on. Let's get this -- let's do it. Let's have sex right here on the desk. Right here. Maybe that will just fix everything. Come on! Huh? You broke my heart. You broke my heart. And I'm not going through that again.

Rick: Phoebe -- let's not make the same mistake our parents made. Okay, their lives are their lives. Whatever happens is up to them, not us.

Phoebe: Well you could say the same thing about me.

Rick: What?

Phoebe: What's the point of loving someone, if you don't care what happens to them?

Rick: Phoebe that's not what I'm saying. Look, you wanted your parents to get back together, right? Didn't happen. There's nothing wrong with that. I mean, maybe what I want for my mom is not going to happen either.

Phoebe: Maybe? You have no idea what my mother went through last year. And if she finally has a chance to be happy, who are you and who is Brooke to take that away from her.

Rick: Okay can we just can we please go out to dinner like we planned.

Phoebe: I don't feel like dinner. I don't feel like I even know you.

Ashley: She didn't look happy.

Nick: This is nice. Champagne?

Taylor: Well I don't drink, and I know you don't drink champagne -- or do you? Correct brand sir?

Nick: Look at that. You know everything you do is right. Believe me I'm the one that's -- anyway sorry I'm late.

Taylor: Did something come up at work?

Nick: Oh, just a small crisis that has nothing to do with us.

Rick: It's our first argument.

Ashley: Awe, and into each life a little rain must fall. Sorry.

Rick: How am I supposed to argue with somebody who leaves the room?

Ashley: She's just young.

Rick: Yeah, and getting younger by the second.

Ashley: So how bad of a fight was it?

Rick: You really think this is an appropriate subject for us?

Ashley: Do you know much I hate that word "appropriate?"

Rick: Yeah, me too.

Ashley: And I'm going to get even more inappropriate, because I've got to tell you something -- I am not rooting for you and Phoebe to fail. I'm not. I don't need anything from you, okay. I'm perfectly capable of processing my feelings -- past, present and future -- all by myself.

Rick: Yeah, I'm not so good at that.

Ashley: Yeah, well it takes lot's of practice. Which I don't wish on you. So, if I could just remember why the hell I'm here, I could still leave with a little bit of my dignity in tack. Oh, yeah -- you know that marketing profile that you worked up for the new fragrance line. I looked it over -- made some notes.

Rick: I need that -- I mean the meeting's tomorrow morning.

Ashley: Oh, yeah well it's back at my hotel. Are you working tonight -- what's happening?

Rick: I don't think I'm doing much of anything anymore.

Ashley: Okay, well I could have the front desk fax it to you. Or you could give me a lift back to my hotel and pick it up yourself.

Rick: I could do that, yeah.

Brooke: I want him to come home too, baby. And I know in my heart there's no place he'd rather be.

Nick: I'm ready. I'm ready for the big moment? Where's this test kit?

Taylor: No, I thought we'd have dinner first and a little conversation.

Nick: Well, why would we want to prolong the agony? Okay. I've waited my whole life to be a parent, what's a few more hours.

Taylor: No, actually, I'm trying to get the bad taste out of my mouth. Stephanie was here just before you came.

Nick: Why was she here?

Taylor: Well, you know actually it wasn't disastrous -- she actually let me know that she genuinely does care about me.

Nick: If she cares about you she'll leave you alone. I wish everybody would leave us alone.

Taylor: I can an only hope I got through to her this time. Actually, it was a good thing you were late.

Nick: Come on. Let's take this test -- find out if we're going to be parents together --

Taylor: No, let's have dinner first!

Nick: Please, please, I'm dying here, I'm dying.

Taylor: Oh, God is this how it's going to be? Okay.

[Knocking at door]

Brooke: Miss me already?

Stephanie: Oh, I know you wish I did. What are you all dressed up for? There's no one here to see you.

Brooke: I just haven't changed yet.

Stephanie: Your telling me.

Brooke: Did you come here to tell me something?

Stephanie: Why? You expecting some news?

Brooke: You tell me.

Stephanie: Oh, right, the stork might be visiting an old friend of yours?

Brooke: Taylor's pregnant?

Stephanie: I don't know.

Brooke: She's not. Life doesn't work that way at her age.

Stephanie: Well she and Nick seem pretty determined. They practice a lot. You know, your favorite pastime has always been destroying families. So I just thought I'd drop by and tell you to keep your paws off those two.

Taylor: Well, this is it, our whole future wrapped up in one little wand.

Nick: Well, go, go, go do it -- go take it.

Taylor: Kiss first. This is it. Today could be the day you find out if you're going to get the child you've been waiting for.
