Ridge: What the hell is going on?
Phoebe: Hi, Dad.
Ridge: Phoebe, what are you doing?
Phoebe: Giving him a haircut.
Ridge: Get off of him, now!
Phoebe: Dad, what's wrong? Is it too short?
Stephanie: So have you made a decision?
Ashley: Yes. I'm accepting your job offer. I would be delighted to develop a new fragrance line for Forrester Originals.
Stephanie: Well, that's absolutely wonderful, Ashley. I'm thrilled to hear that, and so will everybody else in the family.
Ashley: Well, I'm thrilled to be working with each and every one of you. You made it very difficult to say no. And since I can use a fresh start, it works out quite well.
Stephanie: So, are you finished with jabot?
Ashley: Oh, I don't know if I'd say that, but I'm gonna be taking a leave of absence. I accomplished enough in Hong Kong that I can afford to take a little time for myself.
Stephanie: You know, in a way, I'm -- I'm very happy that you've worked such a long time with a family company, because you kind of understand the complications that go along with it.
Ashley: Um, I don't mean to be too forward, but are you referring to your friendship with Brooke?
Stephanie: Well-put. Actually, I was -- I was thinking about Rick and his seeing Phoebe. You know, her father's not happy about that. But Brooke doesn't seem to mind too much.
Ashley: Yeah, it does sound complicated.
Stephanie: The Abbott family isn't the only family with issues.
[Ashley laughs] Although I hope that's not going to give you second thoughts about coming to work here.
Ashley: Oh, no. I already knew about Rick and Phoebe.
Stephanie: You did?
Ashley: Mm-hmm. Rick told me.
Stephanie: Oh, that's right. I forget you two were together in Paris.
Ashley: He's a lovely guy. He really is a wonderful person. And Phoebe is adorable.
Stephanie: Yes, and very innocent. And he's been around the block a couple of times. I would imagine any woman that would be involved with him would have to really know what she's doing.
Ridge: I'd like to speak to my daughter alone.
Phoebe: Dad, calm down.
Ridge: I want you to get the hell out of here!
Phoebe: Dad, we weren't doing anything wrong.
Ridge: Giving Rick a haircut is not appropriate.
Ridge: Because this is an office, not a barber shop.
Rick: I thought she did a swell job.
Taylor: Rick, why don't we take a walk into the hallway?
Phoebe: Wait, wait, I gave Rick a haircut. So what?
Ridge: So what? So, we had an agreement, Phoebe. You stayed away from Rick, I back off and give you some space. But if this is how you want to act, then forget about it. We do it my way.
Phoebe: Dad --
Ridge: I'm through negotiating, Phoebe. You and Rick obviously can't work together so as of now, you don't work together anymore.
Phoebe: You're firing me?
Ridge: You leave me no choice.
Phoebe: You can't do that! Mom!
Ridge: Your mother and I are on the same page here.
Phoebe: Is that true?
Taylor: Well, sweetheart, you know I had reservations about you taking a whole year off and just hanging around here. I don't think it was the best choice for you.
Phoebe: I don't believe this!
Rick: Phoebe, don't worry about it. You're not going anywhere.
Ridge: Excuse me?
Rick: Ridge, use your head. We are launching new boutiques, a new fragrance -- Phoebe's an integral part of that situation. How will it look if you bail on her now?
Ridge: I don't give a damn how it looks, Rick.
Rick: Well, maybe you should.
Ridge: Well, then maybe you should get it through your head that my daughter means more to me than this damn company.
Rick: Oh, really? Have you talked to my father about that? Stephanie? No? I didn't think so. Don't worry, honey, you're fine.
Ridge: You know, your attitude is really starting to bug me.
Rick: Starting to? I thought we got to that point a long time ago.
Ridge: Listen, you --
Phoebe: Dad --
Taylor: Okay, Ridge. Ridge, let's just calm down. Everybody cool off. Rick, just please, take a little walk. Go out.
Ashley: I don't think you have anything to worry about, Stephanie. You know how girls Phoebe's age are. They throw themselves into relationships. And then before you know it, they've moved on.
Stephanie: Usually, that's what happens. But these two are part of the same family. I mean, kids get together, they date, they break up, they go their separate ways. But they're going to be involved in each other's lives for a long time.
Ashley: I see your point. Oh, well, for what it's worth, I think if you give it a little time, it's going to pass.
Stephanie: Tell me something. When you and he worked together in Paris, what was he like?
Ashley: What do you mean?
Stephanie: Oh, did he talk about the women that he dated? The women that he was interested in?
Ashley: No. No, I don't recall him ever mentioning anything like that.
Ashley: So, is there a lot of tension between Ridge and Brooke where Rick and Phoebe are concerned?
Ashley: Well, it's not going to affect the launch, is it?
Stephanie: Oh, no, no. The Rodeo store is going to open right on schedule.
Ashley: Okay, and the wedding?
Stephanie: On schedule.
Ashley: That's good. You know how difficult it is to start a new company. And that's without anything else involved. And I was thinking the launch would be the perfect time to announce our plans for the new fragrance. Phoebe's going to be there, she can talk to the press, she can get the buzz going.
Stephanie: That's a fabulous idea!
Ashley: I thought so. I'm really looking forward to working with her. I think she's got a great face for our product. The public's going to love her.
Phoebe: Dad, you cannot fire me. You said if I got all my college applications in, then I could take this year off from school.
Ridge: That was before I realized you'd be spending time -- let's make that wasting time, goofing around with Rick.
Phoebe: We're not goofing around!
Taylor: Okay, this isn't solving anything. Let's just sit down and let's talk about this.
Phoebe: You're taking away my opportunity to work with the family business because of a haircut?
Ridge: No, that looked like a lot more than just a haircut.
Phoebe: It wasn't.
Taylor: Phoebe, you were sitting in a very inappropriate way.
Ridge: What if your mother and I hadn't walked in, huh?
Phoebe: Nothing would've happened.
Ridge: I don't believe that. That's not the point here. Look, you keep making promises and breaking them, Phoebe. This isn't like you. You're changing and all because of Rick. He's been a negative influence on you since the first day he came into town.
Phoebe: Do you feel that way?
Taylor: Well, Phoebe, with your father on this one, I've got to agree. You know, this isn't why we told you that you could work here. And it doesn't matter whether or not Rick is a good guy or a bad guy. I mean, you're 18. You shouldn't be in an office with an older man, with the door closed, and his shirt off -- yes, I've got a problem with that.
Phoebe: Mom, for the last time -- it was a haircut!
Taylor: It was foreplay. Look, you want to be treated like an adult, then I'm going to talk like one.
Phoebe: We are not having this conversation.
Taylor: No, Phoebe. If this is the way you're going to be behaving, then yes, we will be having this conversation.
[Cell phone rings]
Ashley: Ashley Abbott.
Traci: Ashley? It's your sister.
Ashley: Traci, you must be psychic. I was just about to call you. How are you?
Traci: Oh, you know, busy as usual in New York.
Ashley: How's colleen?
Traci: Oh, thank you for asking. You know, her recovery is going really well. But boy, did she give us a scare. But everything, thank God, is going to work out just fine. How about you?
Ashley: I'm great.
Traci: You are getting used to L.A.?
Ashley: Yeah, I mean, it's a big change, but I think it's good for me. And for Abby, too. She actually started her first day at her new school, and she was making friends even as I was dropping her off.
Traci: Oh, she's such a good girl. So, everything's good? Are you sure?
Ashley: Traci, yes, I'm sure. Why wouldn't it be good?
Traci: Well, I'll be honest. I'm a little worried about you, ash. I mean, first you pick up everything and you move to Hong Kong. The next thing I know, you're taking a job in L.A. This is -- just not like you. And I wanted to know if this had anything to do with dad? It would be perfectly understandable. You know, everybody has to grieve in their own way.
Ashley: I know, but I'm okay. I really am, and you don't have to worry.
Traci: Oh, good. I'm really glad to hear that. But I want you to know, you can call me any time, day or night. I want to be there for you.
Ashley: I know. Same for me.
Traci: Can we find some time when we both have a little break? And can we talk, catch up, you know?
Ashley: Yeah. Hey, better yet, why don't you fly out to L.A. and we'll do Sushi.
Traci: You have gone California on me.
Ashley: Totally. I love you, Trac. And say hi to Steve for me, okay?
Traci: I will. Ashley, I love you, too.
Rick: Oh, hi.
Ashley: You cut your hair.
Rick: You don't like it?
Ashley: I liked it better long, but it will grow on me. Actually, it's going to grow on you, too, right? I mean, eventually. Sorry, that was really bad. You look handsome.
Rick: Thank you. I appreciate that.
Ashley: I did it. I did it.
Ashley: I told your dad I was accepting the job offer.
Rick: You did?
Rick: Really? Come here!
Ashley: We'll be working together again. Are you sure you can handle that?
Rick: Ashley, please, I'm just -- I'm excited for you. You're going to fit in really well around here.
Ashley: I can't wait to dive in and start working on some fragrances. And I'm very excited about working with Phoebe.
Rick: Yeah, if she's still here. Her parents -- her parents kind of walked in on us when she was giving me a haircut.
Ashley: Okay, and?
Rick: Well, I had my shirt off and she was like straddling me --
Ashley: Oh, nice. Now it becomes a little clearer.
Rick: I know, this situation is so ridiculous. If Phoebe and I want to be together, then we should just be together. Ridge has a problem with it. He's the one being unreasonable, not us.
Ashley: Yeah, I'm sorry about that.
Rick: I never should have done what my mom wanted me to do. You know, we should have stuck it out and not caved in.
Ashley: Well, you were feeling pressured. And you were trying to keep peace in the family. I'm not surprised it's not working though.
Rick: Well, why's that?
Ashley: Come on, you're a very passionate person and you have your needs. I don't know Phoebe, but maybe she doesn't understand that.
Phoebe: Mom, I know about sex.
Taylor: Are you sleeping with Rick?
Phoebe: No. I'm not.
Taylor: We've talked about when sex is right. And I've told you that you shouldn't rush into anything. That the longer that you can wait, the more special it can be. I know that's not easy.
Ridge: It is worth it, sweetheart. You are worth it.
Taylor: Your dad and I know you're not a little girl anymore. You're a young woman, you can make your own decisions. But we just don't want to see you get hurt.
Phoebe: But first of all, Rick would never do anything to hurt me. And second, how am I supposed to grow up if I can't even experience life for myself? I mean, yes, I'm sure -- I know I'll make mistakes, but that's what being an adult is about.
Ridge: Phoebe, I'm all for you experiencing life. In fact, experience all the life you want. Just not with Rick.
Phoebe: I give up! It's like talking to a brick wall!
Taylor: Phoebe -- Phoebe?
Phoebe: Do I have a job here or not?
Taylor: Yes. Ridge, look, we need to talk about this. We have to make a better decision. We need to discuss it, okay? We agreed to let her work here, let's let her do that. Let's honor it.
Ridge: All right, you can stay. For now.
Stephanie: Oh, hi. Well, I guess I don't have to ask what that was about.
Ridge: You were right, mother. Nothing's changed with Rick and Phoebe. Do you just want to say, "I told you so?"
Stephanie: I told you so. Look, this whole thing would have been nipped in the bud, if Brooke hadn't lied to you. That's why this wedding shouldn't happen.
Taylor: Well, that's absurd, Stephanie. He wants to be with Brooke. Why should they put their future on hold?
Ridge: You're wasting your breath, Taylor. I keep telling mother this wedding is a done deal, but she doesn't believe me.
Stephanie: I'll believe it when I see it.
Ridge: We need to focus our attention on keeping Rick and Phoebe apart now. That's what we need to do.
Taylor: I don't know what the answer is, but I can tell you this, if you push too hard, you're only going to damage your relationship with Phoebe. And I can guarantee you, she will never stop seeing Rick.
Rick: I used to think that Phoebe was too young for me. Not just in age, but experience, you know. I was married, I headed up a major company division. Phoebe's just --
Ashley: Starting out?
Rick: Yeah, I mean, I never meant to fall for her like I have. It's just one of those things, you know, that just sneaks up on you. There's something about her I'm just drawn to.
Ashley: Like an unexplainable attraction.
Rick: Yes, yes, exactly.
Ashley: I know what that's like. I mean, when you're attracted to somebody -- and on paper, it doesn't make any sense at all. But there's this spark that there -- you know, when you're around each other, you can feel it. So, I think that you need to ask yourself a question, Rick. I mean, obviously you care about Phoebe, and you enjoy being with her. But if there's no future in it, what's the point?
Rick: It kind of sounds like you're taking their side.
Ashley: I'm not taking anybody's side. It's just objectively, I can see that this is not just about you and Phoebe. I mean, whatever decision you make, more people are going to be involved. They are going to be effected, like Ridge, your mother, the company.
Rick: Ashley, I can't break up with her. I don't want to break up with her.
Ashley: Okay. Then, I hope you'll be careful. I think you know what I'm saying.
Rick: Are you talking about sex?
Rick: Well, don't worry about it. It's not happening.
Ashley: The two of you -- you're not?
Rick: No. And it's killing me, Ashley. It's torture. I mean, do you have any idea how long it's been?
Ashley: No, not really.
Rick: Oh, I think you do.
Ashley: So you and Phoebe haven't --
Rick: This surprises you.
Ashley: Yes, knowing you, it surprises me. But I think you're probably very smart to wait. I mean, especially if you're not sure where this is going. I mean, right now you're all caught up in each other, but you know, it could pass.
Rick: Like it passed for you?
Phoebe: Rick, I need to talk to you! Oh, hi. I'm sorry. Am I'm interrupting something?
Ashley: Not at all.
Rick: What's wrong?
Phoebe: Can we go somewhere private?
Rick: Yeah. Would you excuse me for a second?
Ashley: Of course.
Rick: I'll be back, okay?
Rick: Let's go.
Stephanie: Maybe you should cancel the trip to Sydney. Look, we both know exactly what will happen if you go down there. You'll become preoccupied with Brooke. You'll ignore what's going on with the kids. You'll come back to a bigger mess than what's already going on now. And do you really think you should be this far away from your daughter?
Ridge: No, I need to go. Brooke needs me there, the company needs me there. You will look after Rick and Phoebe.
Stephanie: I will look -- what are you --
Ridge: Mother, I need you to do this for me.
Stephanie: Honey, they're kids. I can't keep an eye on them 24 hours a day.
Ridge: Well, then just do the best you can.
Stephanie: Oh, Ridge, please --
Ridge: Mother, please. I need Phoebe to get through this phase. I need for her to realize that Rick is not right for her. I do not want to come back from Sydney and realize she's in deeper with this guy. I had a hard enough time restraining myself today. If I find out that something's happened -- anything's happened between them -- I swear to God, I will tear Rick apart.
Rick: Talk to me, sweetheart. What's going on?
Phoebe: My mom convinced my dad to let me stay.
Rick: Really? That's great.
Phoebe: She's trying to understand, at least. My dad, I don't think will ever come around.
Rick: I know it's hard, honey. But you got to keep working on your dad.
Phoebe: He's not open minded at all. So, why should we even bother?
Rick: Because my mom asked us to. Phoebe, I know. I know. Honey, listen to me. I know this is hard, okay? It's one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. I want to be with you so bad, that is why we have to work through this. Because when we do, it's going to be amazing. Better than we ever thought.
Phoebe: I want to see you.
Phoebe: Tonight. My dad will be on his way to Australia.
Rick: No, I don't know, Phoebe --
Phoebe: Rick, come on.
Rick: Your dad probably has people watching us while he's away --
Phoebe: We'll be careful. I need to be with you, Rick. You can't let my dad scare you off. If you do that, he will have won. We can't let my dad win.
Rick: Okay, okay. I want to be with you too.
Phoebe: So tonight?
Rick: Yes, we will make it happen.
Phoebe: You mean so much to me. I really don't care what anybody else says. We belong together.
