Jackie: You know, I used to think that I understood you. Overprotective mother, castrating wife, recreational sociopath. I believed that there was some psychiatric diagnosis for you. But you're nothing -- nothing so elevated as all that. You are just a bully.
Eric: Yeah. Fine, sally. Yeah, thanks. Thank you. Your 4:30 just cancelled.
Ridge: Why isn't mother calling?
Eric: It was a big mistake, you know, letting her go over there to talk to Jackie.
Ridge: You just got through saying how diplomatic mother can be when she wants to, and you're right. So what if she did apologize? Could she turn this around?
Eric: Look, maybe we should do it, you know? All of us get together and just pool our shares and sell them to nick.
Ridge: Oh, come on. You can't be serious!
Eric: I'm tired of it, Ridge! I'm just tired of it. All this jockeying for control around here. When I started this business, all I cared about was the work. Work I could be proud of, and something I could pass on to my family. And I've done that. I mean, look at you. You and Thorne, and Felicia -- all of you. You've made names for yourselves. You can all strike out on your own.
Ridge: Dad, all we know how to be is Forrester Creations.
Eric: And if we don't sell this company to Nick and your mother goes to jail, what's it all been for?
Ridge: Then obviously we fight to keep that from happening.
Eric: What about Jackie? How do we compensate for what's happened to her?
Ridge: We're paying all of her bills, we're paying her employees. We've done everything we can reasonably do to help. But all she really wants is just to see mother grovel.
Eric: And how likely is that to happen?
Brooke: Have you thought about what you're doing to me?
Nick: What I'm doing for you.
Brooke: No, Nick. Forcing Eric and Ridge and Stephanie, all of them, out of a company that they gave their lives to, that's not what I want. Now, please, just come up with a good settlement that's fair for everybody and make sure that your mother gets exactly what she needs.
Nick: It's not enough.
Brooke: For me?
Nick: I love you. And I would do anything for you. But not this.
Stephanie: Jackie, I am truly sorry for what happened to you. I am.
Jackie: What happened to me, was you.
Stephanie: Well, we both should have controlled ourselves.
Jackie: I don't see any injuries on you. Is this your idea of taking responsibility?
Stephanie: I acknowledge that I lost my temper. And for that, I'm sorry.
Jackie: And all of the rest of it? Right there -- you draw the line there, do you? You're not sorry that I nearly died. You're not sorry about the seizures that they tell me I'm going to have for the rest of my life. And you're certainly not sorry about this hole that they had to drill into my skull to siphon off the blood that was from your "loss of temper." You're not sorry for any of that. I want my life back. I want to be the way I was before. What do you say to that?
Stephanie: That I feel for you. And anything, anything that medically can be done will be done. But an accident -- life leaves none of us the way we were before.
Jackie: Life? Life has given you a choice, my sidestepping friend. You lose your freedom or you lose your company.
Brooke: I know you love me. And you know I love you.
Nick: Well, could you please look at this as an opportunity? I know what you have been through with this family, how they've jerked you around over the years. The way you've dealt with their narcissism and their contempt, their abuse.
Brooke: Nick, the night I asked you to dinner, I was --
Nick: Don't make this about us. I won't let you. Stephanie Forrester, that entire clan, they have dodged consequences for years. They beg and borrow and steal their way to innocence. That woman thinks she's above everyone she deals with, especially you.
Brooke: I'm just asking for fairness.
Nick: No, Brooke, you're not. You're asking for compromise, and some things can't be compromised. I know what I can and can't live with, and what that woman did to my mother will not pass with me.
Eric: Brooke thinks that she has purged my office of all my vices. But she hasn't, not completely. Here. I find that a little spot of cognac doesn't -- it doesn't keep the bad news away, it just keeps it from grabbing you by the throat.
Ridge: Dad, why are you so fatalistic all of a sudden?
Eric: Because I know your mother. She has anger issues, you know, if you hadn't noticed. And her temper -- her temper can be dangerous, Ridge. I've had nights when I wondered if I was going to wake up with her hands around my throat. And for her to touch Jackie in that way, with violence -- the thought of it scares the hell out of me.
Ridge: Are you still in love with Jackie?
Eric: With Jackie? Well, I guess I'm a little like you in the regard. Once I fall in love, I don't fall out of love very easily.
Ridge: How about with mother?
Eric: What you see is what you get with your mother and me. I think we've lived our lives more before your eyes than behind closed doors.
Ridge: That's what I thought. Then why are you still together?
Stephanie: Why are you doing this? It's Eric, isn't it?
Jackie: Eric -- Eric -- what do you want with Eric, anyway? I mean, you have no use for him, and certainly no understanding of him as a man.
Stephanie: Sex is all that you would see in him.
Jackie: You're trying to keep him away from me? Don't bother. He'll turn up at my door, and I won't turn him away.
Stephanie: Forgive me for thinking that we could ever have a mutually respectful conversation between us.
Jackie: All right, yes! Yes -- I'm doing it for Eric. Everyone knows how you humiliated him when you snatched the company away from him. And I'm doing it for Brooke. How many times have you tried to eradicate her from the face of the planet? I'm doing it for all of your victims, Stephanie. But I'm especially doing it for me. Because I will never forget the look of malice and hate on your face when you pushed me over the railing.
Stephanie: Oh, my god!
Jackie: Does all that strike you as normal human behavior? Can you look in a mirror and not see just how sick a woman Stephanie Forrester is?
Eric: Your mother and I have a history, Ridge.
Ridge: Okay. And what, inertia keeps you going?
Eric: Yeah, that. And the fact that I'm fascinated by her. Look, I needed her, Ridge. I needed her ferocious will and her obsessions, even. And in that way, I thought I could have both lives that I wanted, as an artist and as a family man. But I see now that I yielded too much. She kept me estranged from my children and she ran my business with an iron fist, and then she took it away from me the first chance she got.
Ridge: Well, you could have walked when we were all grown up. You did. Okay, you yielded to what we thought was Felicia's dying wish -- you remarried. But Felicia's okay now.
Eric: There's love there, Ridge. You've seen that. And if there were 50 words for love, I might choose another, but there's love there. I stay with your mother because it's too hard for me not to. And I consider that a weakness. Everything that's most important to me, every relationship, every affinity, everything in my life is in a web that your mother is right at the center of. How many times have you told her to get the hell out of your life and stop running it? And yet, here you and I are, just waiting to hear from her on the phone to see if our life's work is forfeit or if you will ever be able to share your life with Brooke again.
Ridge: She fights our battles, that's for sure. Mine, too. But she'll eat crow if she has to. Now everything depends on that.
Stephanie: I see, you want to keep the world safe from me.
Jackie: That's right.
Stephanie: Too bad those surgeons, while they were tinkering around in your head, didn't put some real character into you.
Jackie: I've said all I have to say to you.
Stephanie: I can see that these aches and pains of yours are going to become quite a convenience for you.
Jackie: Do I have to call security?
Stephanie: A convenience that will enable you to line your pockets. And keep Brooke away from my son by blackmailing us into giving you the company.
Stephanie: Yes, blackmail. You think you've got me in a situation where I will do just about anything to get out of it. I know my temper gets the best of me sometimes. But at least I face things straight on. Is it my fault if other people are sometimes afraid, weak-willed? You know, I think I'd rather be a bully than an ineffectual person like you, who's never faced anything head on.
Brooke: Nick, I don't think you've thought this out. Who will run Forrester?
Nick: My mother and I. She knows fashion, I know business. And you, if you want to be part of it.
Brooke: And this is how we will make decisions? What you say goes, and what I think doesn't? I do own 50% of the company, you know.
Nick: And I was willing to try it your way. I agreed to all of your terms, and I said I'd give it my best, be more sensitive, more respectful. Where did that get me? It got me in a horse race with Ridge, again! While you sit back and you weigh your options, and you decided you didn't want to be with either of us. Well, that's not the kind of man I am. And I don't think that's the man that you fell in love with.
Brooke: I see. If you want to take their stock and you want to kick them out of their own company, I can't stop you. But you'll have to do it without me.
Eric: I'm thinking that no news is not good news.
Ridge: If mother strikes out with Jackie, then we're going to have to take this to court.
Eric: Ridge, your vote carries as much weight as mine, but I vote against going to court.
Ridge: Hey, it's all evidence. Any jury is going to see what Nick and Jackie are really trying to do here. Nick's trying to kill two birds with one stone. He thinks he can destroy us and separate Brooke from me, but I think it's gonna backfire. I think Brooke will finally see nick for who he really is. Any feelings she might still have left for him will all turn to dust.
Brooke: You can't do this Nick, force that family out of their own business. It's wrong.
Nick: If Forrester Creations comes to me, it will be a legitimate business deal, and there precious matriarch will go unpunished again. But if they choose to keep the company, I will not rest until Stephanie Forrester pays the full price for what she's done to you and my mother. I'll protect the ones I love at any cost. 'Cause it's all I have. So be prepared to see a side of me you never knew existed.
Jackie: What exactly was your mission here, Stephanie? Make nice? Maybe Jacqueline will say it was all a mistake? You're so wonderfully clever at controlling people, except yourself.
Stephanie: Careful. Remember my temper?
Jackie: Tempted to finish the job?
Stephanie: I never started the job.
Jackie: You know what galls you the most? It's the prospect of losing Brooke, isn't it? Because without Brooke's humanity and her warmth, your company doesn't work. It's nothing. Your family is nothing. Pity it took you so long to see that. But don't worry about Brooke. Nick will take care of her.
Stephanie: She has left him. She's not going to come back, not after this blackmail fiasco.
Jackie: My decision is made. It's time for you to make a choice -- Forrester Creations or your freedom, you choose. But either way, it doesn't matter, because your reign of abuse and bullying people, it's over.
Stephanie: This is not going to work, Jackie. You don't have anything over me. What are you going to do, prosecute? I don't care, go ahead. In the end, you'll end up with nothing. They're not going to send me to jail, because it was an accident. And my family is not going to turn over Forrester Creations to you and your son. Never. Never! Never.
