Thorne: 1%, two sugars, right?
Ridge: She married him. She married him, Thorne. She married him!
Thorne: I know. Mom called last night.
Ridge: Want to hear something funny? I never thought we wouldn't end up together. No matter what it took to get to that place, it was always gonna be me, R.J., Hope and Brooke.
Thorne: She loves you, Ridge. She always has. She would've married you if Nick and Bridget hadn't broken up your wedding.
Ridge: I thought she was with him to punish me. I even made a joke about it. Well, I guess the joke was on me.
Thomas: It's gonna be hot today.
Taylor: I've seen the paper.
Thomas: Are you okay?
Taylor: About Brooke and Nick getting married? I hope they'll be happy.
Thomas: Mom, Dad left you for her.
[Announcer: The role of Phoebe Forrester is now being played by Mackenzie Mauzy.]
Thomas: You don't want to talk about it?
Phoebe: Talk about what?
Thomas: Brooke married Nick Marone.
Taylor: How did you sleep, sweetheart? I know you got in late last night.
Phoebe: I was too excited to sleep. I'm finally home.
Thomas: I still don't get how you can pass up summer abroad. London is one of the greatest cities in the world. Steffy loves it.
Phoebe: Well, I'm not Steffy. The weather -- it was totally depressing. And the food -- gross.
Taylor: Well, I'm just glad you're home, Phoebe.
Phoebe: How's Dad?
Taylor: Oh, I'm sure he'll be glad to see you, too.
Phoebe: Do you think he'd be up for lunch?
Thomas: I would probably call him first.
Taylor: Thomas --
Thomas: He might not want to go out.
Phoebe: Right, because Brooke married Nick?
Thomas: Well, you know how he hates to lose.
Taylor: Look, look, your dad really has nothing at all to be embarrassed about. Although I'm sure that the choice that Brooke made probably makes him feel --
Thomas: Feel like a first class loser.
Ridge: How many times did she tell me her future was with Nick? I didn't believe her.
Thorne: Ridge, don't torture yourself.
Ridge: After what I did to Taylor? It's what I deserve.
Thorne: Look, this is not some kind of karmic judgment, man. This is life. It's complicated, unexpected. You won't always feel like this.
Ridge: Is that the voice of experience?
Thorne: Look, if there was a reason for everything, then maybe this is supposed to help you figure out what you really want, Ridge.
Ridge: I know what I want, Thorne.
Thorne: Maybe. But maybe there's somebody else out there.
Ridge: You billing me for this?
Thorne: Look, Darla changed my life, Ridge. And she's still changing it, every day.
Darla: Hi, guys.
Ridge: Just in time to tell me what a fool I've been. Go ahead, because you're right.
Darla: I am so sorry, Ridge. I know how much you loved her.
Ridge: Brooke got married, she didn't die.
Darla: Well, it's still an incredible loss for you.
Ridge: I'm fine.
Darla: You're devastated.
Ridge: What is it with you two?
Darla: We happen to love you.
Ridge: Since when?
Darla: Ridge, I know you're hurting. Brooke broke your heart. But we're your family. We want you to try to lean on us.
Ridge: Darla, you've never liked me.
Darla: You think you were the first person to call me a dingbat? Sticks and stones, baby, that's what I always tell Alexandria.
Ridge: I'm sorry.
Darla: Oh, please. When you get back to calling me names, I'll know that you're back to your old self again.
Ridge: I'm not gonna do that anymore, Darla.
Darla: Okay, all right. Lets make a fresh start.
Ridge: How do we that?
Darla: Well, first of all, you gotta stop thinking about it so much.
Thorne: Then you need to go home, clean up and for God's sake, stop wallowing in it.
Ridge: Guys, I appreciate what you're trying to do here.
Darla: Okay, then prove it. Come by the house tonight. It's Alexandria's birthday.
Ridge: I forgot my niece's birthday?
Darla: No, no, no, no, it's okay. She's having a little cupcake party at school and tonight's just family.
Ridge: I don't think I'd be very good company.
Thorne: Well see, that's the thing about a 4-year-old, Ridge. If you show up with a present, she won't even notice that you look like hell.
[Darla and Thorne laugh]
Darla: Please, Uncle Ridge?
Darla: Good, great, good. Bring the kids, okay?
Ridge: Phoebe actually is back in town. I'll bring Phoebe and Thomas.
Ridge: Thank you, Darla.
Phoebe: Mom, have you tried to call Dad?
Taylor: Phoebe, I think it's too early.
Phoebe: He can come home now.
Taylor: Sweetheart it isn't that simple. I don't even want you guys worrying about this kind of stuff. It's summer, go have fun. Go do something.
Phoebe: Can I borrow the hybrid? I haven't seen my friends in forever, I won't be long.
Taylor: Okay. Okay, fine. Just be careful.
Phoebe: Thanks, Mom.
Taylor: Don't worry about your sister. She'll be fine. She's a very good driver.
Thomas: I'm worried about you.
Taylor: Why, do I look like I'm falling apart?
Thomas: No, no, you never do. Not in front of me, anyways.
Taylor: I'm fine.
Thomas: You've changed. You're sad, quiet -- you're drinking more.
Taylor: Thomas --
Thomas: Mom, you're drinking a lot. I've seen the empty wine bottles in the recycling bin. I'm really worried about you.
Taylor: Okay, fine. Yeah, I'm a little worried about me, too.
Thomas: You should call Dad.
Taylor: I can't.
Thomas: He can help you.
Taylor: I can help myself. I'm fine. I'm a strong woman, I'll be okay.
Thomas: Maybe you should get some counseling.
Taylor: I'll counsel myself, okay? I'll pour all of the liquor down the drain. I'll get rid of it all. I'll get it out of the house. I'll clean up my act. I'll be fine, okay? I'll be the mother that you remember -- I'm going to be the mother you deserve.
Thomas: Good. I just want you to be happy.
Thomas: Okay. All right.
Darla: Hi. Is it a bad time?
Taylor: No, come on in.
Darla: Thanks. You know, I would've called, but I just kind of happened to be in --
Taylor: It's not what you're thinking.
Darla: I'm not thinking.
Taylor: Ah, no. I'm just getting rid of it all -- every last drop. It's all going right down that drain.
Darla: Why? What happened?
Taylor: Well, my son is worried about me. Parents are supposed to be taking care of their children, not the other way around.
Darla: What did he say?
Taylor: He said misses me. He misses the happy, together mom that I used to be. And I miss her, too.
Darla: I'm so -- I'm so sorry.
Taylor: For what?
Darla: For all the times that we never invited you over. I mean, my God, we were sisters-in-law, you know? I shouldn't have to choose between you or --
Taylor: It's okay. You can say his name.
Darla: You know, Taylor, just because you're divorced, doesn't mean that you're still not family, okay? I saw Ridge today, he's really hurting.
Taylor: I'm sure.
Darla: No, no, no, I mean hurting.
Taylor: Well, I'm sure he sees what you have with Thorne and he probably wishes he had it, too.
Darla: It's funny, he did have it. With you. But, you know, I didn't come by to talk about ridge. It is Alexandria's birthday and we are having a bash for her tonight. Can you come?
Taylor: Well, I'd like to. Is Ridge gonna be there?
Taylor: Well, no, I don't think so.
Darla: I understand. It's okay.
Taylor: I mean, I would love to. But will you please tell Alexandria I said happy birthday?
Darla: You can tell her yourself, all right? We'll have lunch real soon, okay? Just us girlfriends.
Taylor: Yeah, I'd like that.
Darla: Okay? Good, I'd like that, too. We are gonna make a pact, okay? We are sisters. We are friends. And our pact is gonna be that we're gonna be there for each other, no matter what -- you call me if you need me, okay? I love you, you know.
Taylor: I love you, too.
Darla: Oh, honey.
Ridge: Phoebe! Hey! Hey, sweetheart!
Phoebe: I missed you.
Ridge: I missed you, too, my big girl.
Phoebe: I was worried you weren't gonna let me come home.
Ridge: Why, because it costs so much bloody money for that trip? I don't care about the money, I have my little girl here.
Phoebe: You're the best dad ever.
Ridge: That's right. Steffy's not homesick at all?
Phoebe: No, not at all. I don't get her.
Ridge: Well, was there anything you liked about London?
Phoebe: The boys were kind of cute.
Ridge: Hey, you're supposed to be studying!
Phoebe: I couldn't concentrate. I was worried -- about Mom, mostly -- how things were when I left.
Ridge: How is your mom?
Phoebe: She misses you, Dad.
Ridge: She say that?
Phoebe: I can tell. I'm just saying -- if Brooke's out of the picture, right? She's married, there's nothing stopping you now.
Ridge: It's not that simple.
Phoebe: That's what Mom said. But why not? If you love her and she loves you, why can't you just love each other? Come home -- Daddy, please.
Phoebe: Are you hoping that things will still work out with Brooke?
Phoebe: Be honest, Dad. I know how much you love her. I mean, she was a mother to me for years. I love her, too.
Ridge: That door is closed, kiddo.
Phoebe: Mom needs you. She's way too proud to admit it, but she needs you.
Ridge: Does she know you're here?
Phoebe: I told her I was with friends. Look, we want you back with us -- home, where you belong.
Ridge: Come here. Hey, there's a party tonight. Thorne and Darla's for little Alexandria. You're invited.
Phoebe: Are you gonna be there?
Ridge: Of course I am. Why don't you come with me?
Phoebe: Sure. I should probably get her a present.
Ridge: Yeah -- yeah, you should. Here. Just do it.
Phoebe: Thanks, Dad.
Ridge: See you later.
Phoebe: Okay. Oh, one more thing -- I love you, no matter what happens.
Darla: Thorne, shouldn't you be home decorating for the party?
Thorne: Sally went ahead of me, honey.
Darla: You're having Sally put up streamers all by herself?
Thorne: She promised that she would leave the heavy lifting to me, okay?
[Darla sighs] You worry too much.
Darla: She's like a mom to me, you know that.
Thorne: I know that. I'll tell you what, Darla. You have a big heart, you know that? The way that you reached out to Ridge earlier. I've never been more proud of you.
Darla: Thank you. The poor guy was practically in shock, though.
Thorne: Yeah, he was.
Darla: He's still coming to the party?
Thorne: Yes. He needs his family around him.
Darla: What he needs is Taylor. I know, I know, it's none of my business.
Thorne: You saw her?
Darla: I did. And I invited her to the party. She passed. She still loves him, you know?
Thorne: She said that?
Darla: She didn't have to. You know, they were such a wonderful family, Thorne. They were happy for so long.
Thorne: I know. Do you still think there's a chance, though?
Darla: I don't know, honey. He really broke her heart, you know? And Taylor's such a strong, independent woman, and has worked really hard on getting her life back on track.
Thorne: Yeah, but if she loves him --
Darla: Loving him isn't going to protect her from getting hurt again. I for one would love to see that family back together. But after what Ridge put her through, I wouldn't be surprised if she'd never take him back.
Taylor: Ridge, hi.
Taylor: Come on in. Thomas is waiting for you. He said you might stop by.
Ridge: Yeah, I'm gonna take him to the party with me. I saw Phoebe earlier. She looks good.
Taylor: Yeah, she's glad to be home.
Ridge: As grown up as she pretends to be, she still needs us.
Taylor: Let me go get Thomas. I think he's still getting ready.
Ridge: Taylor -- Phoebe said you were doing okay. I'm glad.
Taylor: How are you?
Ridge: I'm fine.
Taylor: Look, I'm sorry things didn't work out for you and Brooke. I know you probably think I don't mean that, but I do. After everything we went through, I guess I wanted at least one of us to end up happy.
Ridge: I don't know what to say.
Taylor: And now, the whole thing just seems so pointless, Ridge. I just wanted honesty in our marriage, and you wanted Brooke.
Ridge: I think it was a little more complicated than that.
Taylor: No, no, not really, no. I've always known that you loved Brooke, and you probably always will -- but you know, there was a part of your heart that was mine. I guess it would make sense if there was someone you would leave me for, it would be Brooke, though, because when I was gone, she came your wife, and she helped raise our children.
Ridge: We don't have to do this.
Taylor: No, Ridge, I'm just -- I'm just still trying to make sense of my life. I just -- I just don't understand any of it. I mean, we ended our marriage, we tore apart our family, we practically destroyed our children -- for what? What? So we could just both end up alone?
Ridge: I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I'm sorry.
