Sally: You know, uh, with that check and that contract, you know what you'll be?

Thomas: Uh -- rich, famous and not in the freshman class?

Sally: And happily married, leave us not forget that .

Gaby: This doesn't have to be decided right now, does it?

Sally: Well, honey, why would you not want to trade in the situation you're in for this one?

Thomas: Well, she's got a point. We're squatters.

Gaby: It's, it's just Thomas and I haven't had the chance to discuss it.

Sally: Oh, you discuss things? Well, no wonder Ridge refuses to believe you're married. Tell you what, I'll go powder my nose and be back in five minutes, okay?

Gaby: Actually, we were just about to go to bed. Bu this contract will still be valid in the morning, right?

Sally: Why, sure it will.

Thomas: Hey, thanks for everything, Sal.

Sally: Well, you're welcome. But you haven't gotten everything yet. That's tomorrow.

Jackie: Do I need my head examined?

Eric: A couple of hours on my analysis couch and you'll be a new woman, I promise you.

[ Jackie laughs ] Women never used to laugh when I got all suave.

Jackie: You're such a good man, Eric. And, oh boy, have I've tried your patience this evening.

[ Cat meowing ]

Eric: Damn it.

Jackie: What?

Eric: Did you hear that?

[ Cat meowing ]

Jackie: Oh, just a couple of cats having a bit of fun on your deck.

Eric: Oh, yeah. Aw, I've spoiled their evening.

[ Jackie laughs ]

Jackie: Were you expecting someone?

Eric: Stephanie likes to ambush me out here. Only that usually begins with a pair of beady eyes at the window.

Jackie: Good lord.

Eric: She always has a very, very good reason, of course. Somebody's about to do something that they mustn't be allowed to do, and if I don't help her stop them, then I'm a spineless jellyfish.

Jackie: Is that the life that I'm looking at, I wonder?

Eric: No. No, Jackie. You're not wrong to be concerned about Nick.

Jackie: Am I a sour, old busybody, Eric?

Eric: You're not sour. You're not old.

Jackie: It's just that we get so few chances in life, don't we? Well, I don't want Nick to miss out on his and to end up like me. Alone.

Bridget: Does it bother you seeing my mother with him? Damn it, Nick. I want the truth.

Nick: I don't trust him. That bothers me. And it should bother you, too.

Dante: Brooke, I don't think this is working.

Brooke: They're not watching?

Dante: Nick looks like he's in hell, and Bridget should be watching this.

Brooke: I wish he would just leave. He knows we don't want to do this.

Dante: We should stop.

Brooke: Are they arguing?

Dante: Yeah. Bridget may think you've moved on with your life, but it's obvious Nick hasn't, you know? And this whole thing, Brooke, may be backfiring against you.

Brooke: He told me he could do this. He just needs to hang on a few more minutes.

Dante: I'm not sure he can.

Brooke: He has to. This is the foundation for the rest of their lives.

Jackie: I made the mistake of marrying young to give my child a father. I married a man that I didn't love, because the one that I did seemed so out of reach.

Eric: Were you -- were you miserable?

Jackie: Mostly just the sense that I was missing something better.

Eric: Everybody sort of walks around with that feeling, don't they?

Jackie: You?

Eric: No. Not right now. I have the ocean. I have the quiet. Except for our amorous feline friends.

[ Jackie laughs ] I have you.

Jackie: Feeling dangerous, are we?

Eric: Just content. I'm not going to chase you around the room. Unless you take those shoes off, of course.

[ Jackie laughs ] That's nice. It's nice when you laugh.

Jackie: You know, by and large as a species, we really don't know very much about what makes us happy, do we?

Eric: Hmm. Maybe happiness is always a surprise.

Jackie: Why can't Bridget and this baby surprise my son like that, hmm?

Eric: And why can't tonight be a surprise for both of us?

Dante: We have to give them what they came for.

Brooke: You don't know what this is doing to Nick.

Dante: Now I know why he's not over you yet.

Brooke: He is.

Dante: Then why did we stop?

Brooke: What are you doing?

Bridget: Leave him alone, Nick.

Nick: You're not good enough to kiss her feet.

Dante: See, Bridget. He's not over your mother yet.

Brooke: Don't listen to him.

Nick: This is wrong Bridget. This is all wrong. Stay away from her. Stay away from her!

Bridget: Nick? Nick?

Nick: Yeah.

Bridget: Is it just Dante or would it bother you like this to see her with any man?

Nick: I am committed to you. You know that. Does this feel weird to you, or is this just me?

Bridget: We can go if you want.

Nick: Thank you. We'll talk about this at home.

Dante: They're gone.

Brooke: Good.

Dante: Are you okay?

Thomas: My uncle works here and the family seems to accept it.

Gaby: How long did that take before there were no hard feelings?

Thomas: A while.

Gaby: You said yourself that things weren't the same.

Thomas: We don't see as much of him as we used to.

Gaby: My mom used to come home, and she used to talk about you guys. She used to say how amazing the Forresters were. How committed they were to each other. Your family defines who you are. They're important to you. Just don't make it so that this thing with your family can't be fixed.

Thomas: Then there's the other part of it. I'm an overnight success. Maybe sally's right. Maybe I should just ride that wave.

Gaby: You're going to be a huge success in whatever you do whenever you do it.

Thomas: You make me the man i want to be. Don't ever go anywhere.

Gaby: I won't. That's what being married is about.

Jackie: Okay, I'm going to stop. I have made up my mind. Actually, you made it up for me. But don't you think I'm going to give you the credit.

Eric: Great, just like my marriage.

Jackie: I'm going to stop tormenting Nicky, and I'm just going to be happy for him. Bridget is such a wonderful girl. And Nick, he's going to make the world's greatest dad.

Eric: You're absolutely right. Hear, hear.

Jackie: Hear, hear. But I warn you, the first person that calls me grandma, I'm gonna box their ears.

Eric: Yeah, it takes about three years to get used to.

Jackie: Ought to feel grand?

Eric: Yes. So what time do I have to have get you home before your father beats me up?

Jackie: Actually, I have been dreading it. I left home early this morning, and I haven't been back. I think the divorce papers came today.

Eric: Really? That sounds very civilized. I expect to hear a thud and find mine wrapped around a flaming arrow.

Jackie: That bad?

Eric: Uh-huh. Stephanie warned me, it's not gonna be pretty.

Jackie: I never expected to end up alone. I don't know why, I mean, I've spent most of my life alone. It's just that I didn't expect it.

[ Jackie sighs ]

Eric: All the years married to Stephanie, I don't think I even spent one day alone. Every time I'd look around, there were all these people. Where the hell did they come from? Stephanie was the hive builder, I have to give her that. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have been social at all.

Jackie: Sometimes all you need is just to hear somebody in the next room turning a page. What?

Eric: You look like you need to be kissed.

Jackie: Most women look that way to you, Eric.

Eric: I used to think most women needed to be married. I think I'm past that now.

Jackie: Kiss me. And I promise you all you'll have to do is buy me dinner again.

Eric: Okay. I'll splurge. I might as well spend all my money. What I don't spend, Stephanie and her lawyers are gonna get their hands on anyway.

Bridget: How long are you gonna be angry?

Nick: What makes you think I'm angry?

Bridget: You didn't say a word all the way home.

Nick: That's because I feel like a fool. I feel like I was just on display over at your mother's house. And then you have the nerve to ask me if seeing the two of them together bothers me.

Bridget: Why was my mother crying at the restaurant?

Nick: Because of this. She was crying because of this. Our baby. Our future. We were talking about how the most important thing in the world is that I'm a good husband to you, and I'm a father to this child. The father that I never had. And if you have a question about it, you can call your mother and ask her.

Bridget: No.

Nick: Do it. Call her.

Bridget: No, no, Nick. No.

Nick: If everybody wanted to just, you know, get a rise out of me tonight, congratulations. Because it worked. I don't want to fell like I'm tested. I am tired of being tested. I don't want to be tested by anyone anymore.

Bridget: I'm just gonna go stay at my mom's tonight.

Brooke: You're a parent now. You've got to start acting like one. As much as I want you, as much as I love you, there's something more that I want. I want my daughter to be happy.

Bridget: I'll call you in the morning.

Nick: Bridget, wait. I'm sorry. I love you. I want you to be happy. I want that more than anything in the world -- for you to be happy. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.

Thomas: Should we look at the contract again?

Gaby: It's probably more than fair.

Thomas: Even though you don't want me to sign it.

Gaby: I'll be happy either way.

Thomas: You don't think I will be?

Gaby: I just think that what your family wants for you should count as much as what Sally wants for you, that's all.

Thomas: But that doesn't include you.

Gaby: Except that part.

Thomas: How can you stick up for them like that after the way they treated you?

Gaby: Anybody that loves you is on my side no matter what, whether they know it or not.

Thomas: Thank you for being my amazing wife.

Gaby: It's so much easier than I thought.

Jackie: I warn you, I'm not a lot of work, but I'm not easy.

Eric: And I'm a cold, unfeeling egotist.

Jackie: That's a ringing endorsement.

Eric: I'm good in bed.

Jackie: Won't get that far.

Eric: For future reference.

Jackie: I'll post it on the fridge.

Eric: And I like the lights on.

Jackie: Ah, then we are doomed.

Eric: I've been doomed before.

Jackie: Could you please be sincere?

Eric: God, you're beautiful.

Jackie: Close enough.

Brooke: Thank you, Dante. I don't know if I'm making things better or if I'm making things worse. I just want Bridget to be happy. And I want Nick to keep his commitment to her.

Dante: That's not why he's doing this. Tell me something, Brooke. If he does it, is it because the love he has for Bridget, or the love he has for you? Because from where I was sitting, the love that you share with Nick was never stronger than it was tonight.

Brooke: Nick is going to give my daughter the life that she deserves. That's all that matters now.
