Brooke: You've cut your mother out of your life. She can't control you anymore. Nobody, not even Stephanie, can keep us apart now.

Stephanie: I've lost everything.

[ Stephanie remembering ]

Ridge: It's over, Mother. I'm no longer you're son. You're the cancer that's killing this family. I'm cutting you out -- forever. I'm no longer you're son. You're the cancer that's killing this family. I'm cutting you out -- forever.

Stephanie: My husband, my

Stephanie: My husband, my son -- gone. Everyone's gone. All I wanted to do -- all I wanted to do was protect them. I guess I didn't do a very good job of that, so they're gone. God, why?

Thomas: Mom? Mom, what's going on? How's grandma?

Taylor: Is your father home yet?

Thomas: No. No, I've been trying to call his cell, but he's not picking up. It's her heart, isn't it? That's why she stopped the wedding and asked everybody to leave. She's having a relapse or something.

Taylor: Thomas, your grandmother never had a heart attack. She staged it.

Thomas: What?

Taylor: Stephanie wanted your father and I to be together so badly, she was willing to do anything to make that happen.

Brooke: I know this isn't an easy decision to you.

Ridge: No, Logan, it's not.

Brooke: You'll have two children here and three with Taylor.

Ridge: They've already been through so much.

Brooke: And you don't want to put them through any more. And neither do I. But they're old enough to know that you can't base a commitment on a lie.

Ridge: Thomas and the girls were so excited when Taylor and I renewed our vows.

Brooke: Ridge, it wasn't your choice. Stephanie orchestrated the whole thing.

Ridge: But I said the words.

Brooke: Would you have done that if you knew she wasn't dying? The night that Stephanie faked her heart attack, you and I were at the beach house, Ridge. You hadn't even made up your mind yet. We were spending time together. We were becoming much more close than we had been in a long time, and Stephanie knew that. She sensed it. She knew which way you were leaning.

Ridge: Oh, god, that whole evening, it seems like such a blur to me after she collapsed.

Brooke: That's because you were terrified. You weren't thinking straight. But now, you are. You can look at this with your own heart and your own mind -- your own eyes, no deceptions. So please, tell me what's in your heart. Are you ready to put the last few months behind us, all the pain, all the misunderstandings? Because if you are, we need to make a commitment, to each other and to our family. I'm ready to do that. Are you? Is your future with me and our family? Please, please tell me it is.

Gaby: Mrs. Forrester? Are you all right? Did -- did Nick and Bridget leave?

Stephanie: Yes.

Gaby: Did -- did the minister come back and finish the ceremony?

Stephanie: No.

Gaby: Oh, um -- I'm sorry.

[ Stephanie laughs ]

Stephanie: Not -- not as sorry as I am. I'm so sorry the whole evening ever happened.

Gaby: Well, you know what? It's not a total loss. We can save the flowers for tomorrow, and everybody can come back.

Stephanie: No, gaby. No one's coming back. No one's ever coming back. Not tomorrow, not next week, not ever -- not ever.

Thomas: Wait, wait. Grandma's heart attack, that was all an act?

Taylor: I can't explain what she did. It was completely indefensible. To intentionally put this family through another crisis was incredibly cruel, especially to your father. She manipulated him in the worst possible way.

Thomas: Wait, you asked me if dad was home. Does he know about this?

Taylor: Yes.

Thomas: Well, we should find him. He's got to be furious.

Taylor: The last time I saw him, he was with Brooke.

Thomas: Oh, Mom.

Brooke: Then just say it. Say you know your future's with me, R.J. and Hope. That is how you feel, isn't it? I'm asking the most important question of our lives, and you just stand there?

Ridge: Why are you putting me on the spot right now, Logan?

Brooke: Ridge, I'm giving you a chance to make this right.

Ridge: It's a complicated situation, even more than before.

Brooke: No, it was complicated when your mother was messing things up. Now it's very simple.

Ridge: No --

Brooke: Do you want to be with me, or don't you?

Ridge: You're trying to force me to make a decision, just like she did.

Brooke: She didn't ask you what you wanted, Ridge. I am. What do you want? Or do you even know?

Ridge: What I know is it's been a very emotional day, and I don't feel like doing this now.

Brooke: Oh, my god. You can't do it. You can't make a commitment.

Ridge: I haven't said one way or the other.

Brooke: I know. I know, and that's the problem. That's what you always do, Ridge, and I let you, over and over and over again. I've done it to myself again. I've pinned all my hopes and dreams on you, and my future, our destiny --

Ridge: Brooke, I haven't said I don't want you. I haven't said I don't love you, because I do.

Brooke: Well, then make a commitment to me. Tell me that our family is your number one priority. It isn't. Maybe it never has been.

Ridge: Oh, Logan, don't say that.

Brooke: Don't call me that. I'm not your Logan anymore, your second choice. My god, I can't believe that I've done this. I've spent so many years wasting my life with you.

Stephanie: My family left me.

Gaby: I don't understand --

Stephanie: My husband --

[ Stephanie sighs ] My husband is gone and he's not coming back. None of my children are coming back. I ruined their lives. I ruined yours, too. I've ruined theirs, and mine.

Gaby: No, Mrs. Forrester, no, you have not.

Stephanie: Yes. Yes, yes, yes, yes. Just ask them, they'll tell you. They hate me, Gaby. I don't know, maybe they should. Will you get me another drink, please. Some more champagne. Pour yourself something and we'll celebrate, okay? We'll celebrate -- let's see -- we'll celebrate -- we'll celebrate the end of my life as I know it. How's that?

Gaby: I don't think I should --

Stephanie: Yes, you should. Go ahead, Gaby. Go on.

Thomas: Grandma tricked you and dad into renewing your wedding vows. She manipulated dad --

Taylor: Your father and I will be fine, sweetheart. We will.

Thomas: You don't think he's going to change his mind. He's not going to leave us for Brooke, is he?

Ridge: You don't mean that.

Brooke: All this time, I thought that your indecision was your mother's fault. That she was pressuring you, and confusing you.

Ridge: You're confusing me. I don't know see why we need to get into all this tonight.

Brooke: You know what? We don't. If you can't make a commitment to me and to our family, we don't ever need to get into it.

Ridge: Oh, Brooke, come on. Just let me explain some things then.

Brooke: Ridge, I didn't need an explanation. I needed an answer. And I got one.

Ridge: I never said anything definitive.

Brooke: Chances are you never will. I think both of our eyes were open tonight. I'm through deluding myself. I am through being humiliated by you and your mother. And I'm gonna have that life that I want, Ridge. I'm gonna have it on my own terms. Without you.

Stephanie: I thought I asked you for champagne.

Gaby: Mrs. Forrester, I don't know what's going on --

Stephanie: Mrs. Forrester. God, I used to be so proud to be Mrs. Forrester. I was so proud of my family. I just tried to protect them. That's all I wanted -- was to protect them, guide them. I thought I could be my family's compass.

Gaby: You are. Everyone looks up to you. I see that.

Stephanie: You know, they trusted me. They always trusted me, and they trusted my integrity. And I've thrown that all away. I've wasted all the -- I've chased my family away. I don't know why. Gaby, I think you should leave.

Gaby: I don't think that that's a good idea --

Stephanie: No, no. Go ahead. I want you to go. Thank you. Go. Go on.

[ Glass shattering ]

[ Stephanie sighs ]

Taylor: Thomas, your father takes his commitments very seriously.

Thomas: Even the ones grandma tricked him into?

Taylor: I gave him a chance to change his mind, and he didn't.

Thomas: And you don't think he will? What if he feels guilty? What if he thinks he owes Brooke something because of what happened?

Taylor: Your father didn't do this to Brooke. Stephanie did.

Thomas: And he's furious about that, right? Brooke had to move out because you and dad renewed your vows. Hope and R.J.'s relationship will be completely different with dad because he chose you. If that wasn't for real --

Taylor: Stephanie's heart attack wasn't real. Our vows were, and he's going to honor them.

[ Thomas sighs ] Thomas, he's coming back. Your father is going to come home tonight, because he knows this is where he belongs.

Ridge: Brooke, come on. It's not over.

Brooke: Yes, it is.

Ridge: I am always going to be a part of your life.

Brooke: And you've always been able to count on that, haven't you? No matter what happened, good ol' Logan would take you back.

Ridge: Don't make it sound like that.

Brooke: Like what? Like I'm a doormat?

Ridge: Brooke, you're not a doormat! Just listen to what you're saying -- this is so crazy.

Brooke: No, you know what's crazy? It's crazy that I've chased after a man all these years who hasn't respected me. You know, I've fought so hard to get your family's approval. Approval that I never got.

Ridge: Brooke, I was wrong. I didn't protect you from my damn mother like I said I would.

Brooke: Stephanie said this would happen.

Ridge: Nothing has happened. I'm not rejecting you.

Brooke: No. No I'm rejecting you.

Ridge: You don't know what you're saying here.

Brooke: Oh, I do. I do. I just can't believe I waited this long to see it. After our first marriage failed, and then our second. I was too scared to look at it, ridge. I was too scared to really see that I was chasing a fantasy!

Ridge: No, that's not true, Brooke

Brooke: No? Then prove it. Prove it to me right now. You can't. You never have.

Ridge: Oh, damn it, Brooke! Just because I don't want to make a decision about this right now, tonight?

Brooke: You don't have to, Ridge. I'm going to make the decision. I am going to do what is best for me and for my children.

Ridge: You're not hearing me.

Brooke: No. You're not hearing me. I am finally taking control of my life. I am not going to be defined by how you and your mother see me. If I want to be respected, I have to respect myself. My days of being insecure are finally over. I never thought I'd say this. But I deserve better than you, Ridge. I am going to have a man that loves me and can commit to me. Completely. And that man isn't you.
