Brooke: Answer me, Ridge. You came here for a reason.

Ridge: I wanted to explain.

Brooke: Saying your vows in Stephanie's hospital room and choosing Taylor -- you already admitted that that was a mistake.

Ridge: It never should've happened like this, Brooke.

Brooke: But that's not all you came here to say, is it? Please, tell me that you're going to leave Taylor and that you want me and our children to move back to the house, where we belong.

Massimo: Mrs. Forrester, please. Oh, wait. Wait, wait, wait. Stephanie, we were just coming to see you.

Stephanie: Oh, how nice.

Jackie: You're going home?

Stephanie: Soon, yes, I hope.

Mark: Yeah, we have one more ekg, and if all checks out, she's free to go.

Jackie: All this personal attention certainly agrees with you. I mean, you'd never guess you just had a heart attack.

Stephanie:: Yes, well, Dr. Maclaine's taking very good care of me.

Massimo: Well, we'll let you get on with the tests, okay?

Mark: It's not gonna take long, if you'd like to stay.

Massimo: All right, good, fine.

Stephanie: I'll see you in a bit.

Jackie: Mm-hmm.

Massimo: Goodness. After all these years of trying to protect her family and arguing with Brooke has really taken its toll.

Jackie: Hmm. You don't think it's a little strange? I mean, Ridge can't decide between Taylor and Brooke. Stephanie has a heart attack, and then suddenly he remarries Taylor.

Massimo: Look, it is well known that Stephanie wanted them together, all right?

Jackie: Mm-hmm, her dying wish. One that she knew Ridge could not refuse.

Massimo: Oh, for god's sake, you make it sound like it was something --

Jackie: You know how much this meant to Stephanie.

Massimo: You cannot fake a heart attack.

Jackie: Sure you can. If you've got enough money and a young doctor saddled with med school bills who wants to impress one of the hospital's major donors.

Massimo: Stop it.

Jackie: It makes sense.

Massimo: It doesn't make sense to me. And neither does your attitude, Jacqueline. I thought you were gonna focus on trying to fix your life somehow, one way or the other. But it's never gonna happen as long as you interfere in other people's lives.

Jackie: I am just making an observation, that's all.

Massimo: Oh, I'm sure. Tainted with your shameful history. I don't think many mothers would stoop to your level of deception to protect their children.

Jackie: I'm not the only one that thinks this, you know.

Massimo: I don't wanna hear about it. Not another word.

Pheobe: Did you grab the rest of the soda?

Steffy: Yeah, I did.

Thomas: Hey, thanks for bringing those out.

Steffy: Yeah, no problem. Hey, there she is.

Thomas: Mmm. I was just about to put these burgers back in the fridge.

Taylor: Oh, no, I was just visiting grandma.

Pheobe: How is she?

Taylor: Much better, much better.

Thomas: Is dad at the hospital, too?

Taylor: He isn't here?

Pheobe: No.

Taylor: I thought he was here with you guys.

Ridge: I don't want to make another impulsive decision. I need to think about this.

Brooke: And I have to know, ridge. Yes or no? Are you going to leave Taylor or aren't you? The answer's no.

Ridge: I don't have an answer.

Brooke: Ridge, you can't have it both ways. You can't renew your vows with Taylor and then get upset with me for moving out. Look, if you really think you made a mistake, you have to tell her. You have to undo this. But if you can't do that, why are we even dredging this up?

[ Door opens ]

Nick: Ahoy, there. Sailors coming ashore.

Hope: Mommy, Daddy, I caught a fish!

Brooke: Oh, sweetheart, that's wonderful.

Ridge: Way to go, kiddo! Let me see.

Nick: Maybe we ought to take that to Catherine, huh? Have her clean it for us.

Hope: Are you staying for dinner, daddy?

Ridge: Your mommy and I will have to talk about that one, sweetie.

Nick: Let's cook this fish before it gets all smelly. Nobody likes to eat smelly fish. Come on. There you go. Right into the kitchen.

Brooke: I think you should go.

Ridge: We're not finished.

Brooke: Ridge, I'm tired of doing this dance. You push me away, and then you pull me back in. Well, if that's the best you have to offer, I'm better off alone.

Massimo: Hello, Stephanie.

Stephanie: Mas.

Massimo: Okay. How did it go?

Stephanie: Fine. Dr. Maclaine's signing the discharge forms as we speak.

Massimo: Congratulations.

Stephanie: Thank you. Is it all right if my friend takes me back to my room?

Nurse: Oh, of course.

Stephanie: Thank you.

Massimo: I'll take you home if you want.

Stephanie: Well, that'd be lovely. Where's Jacqueline?

Massimo: She can call a car service.

Stephanie: Well, I thought the two of you were spending the day together.

Massimo: No, no, no. Not anymore.

Stephanie: What happened, Mas?

Massimo: You don't wanna know. You can't believe the things that she was saying.

Stephanie: Oh, I see. The latest conspiracy theory about my heart attack.

Massimo: Can you believe it? She's accusing you -- I mean, after everything you have gone through, it is reprehensible.

Stephanie: You know, I never did understand what you saw in her to begin with.

Massimo: As of this moment, neither do I.

Mark: Mrs. Marone?

Mark: Mrs. Marone? Are you all right?

Jackie: You saw my husband and me arguing?

Mark: I wasn't eaves dropping, I could just tell that he upset you.

Jackie: Actually, it was the other way around. I seem to be doing that a lot lately. It's ironic, really, seeing we're trying to reconcile.

Mark: Does that mean you're gonna be moving out of Century View Towers?

Jackie: How did you know?

Mark: I just moved in.

Jackie: Really?

Mark: Yeah, I just purchased a place downstairs.

Jackie: Excuse me for being so surprised. It's just that I gave the doorman strict instructions to tell me when any attractive young man moved into the building.

Taylor: I'm sure your father'll be back really soon. In the meantime, I'll just hang out here and party with you guys.

Thomas: Well, maybe you and dad would rather be alone when he gets back. You didn't even get to go on a honeymoon.

Taylor: Oh, we'll have a lot of time for that. You know, sweetheart, marriage is so much bigger than that, anyway. You know, it's something -- you live together, every single day, for the rest of your life. It encompasses everything about you. Even when your dad just went through this major setback, we were able to get through it, because our marriage is built on love and trust. That's what makes marriage so precious. It makes it sacred.

Thomas: And I know Brooke feels that way, too. Has anyone heard from her since she left? I wonder how she's doing.

Ridge: I didn't come here to upset you.

Brooke: Well, you have.

Ridge: Sorry.

Brooke: I don't want apologies, Ridge.

Ridge: If there's any way to fix this at all --

Brooke: Well, there is. You could leave Taylor. But you won't.

Ridge: I feel like I'm in an impossible position here.

Brooke: Then what are you doing here? If you can't change anything, what are we talking about?

Ridge: I was just concerned. I wanted to see you.

Brooke: Not concerned enough to do anything about it.

Ridge: Brooke, that's not fair.

Brooke: You made me wait for weeks, Ridge. Wondering who you would choose. Which family would survive this chaos. And you chose Taylor. Or your mother did. And either way, I had to accept it, and I had to move on with my life. And now, you're here. For what? What are you doing? What are -- what do you want from me, Ridge?

Nick: Forrester. Time for you to leave.

Ridge: This is between Brooke and me.

Nick: Wake up, pal. There is no more you and Brooke. You made your choice. Unless, of course, you're having second thoughts now. And if you are, then step up and do something about it, or keep it to yourself. But don't come here asking for absolution or forgiveness or what the hell ever it is you want.

Ridge: What I want is none of your business.

Nick: Go home, Forrester. You got plenty to handle there.

Ridge: And what does that mean?

Nick: It means leave this woman alone, or you answer to me.

Pheobe: Feels weird having a family barbeque.

Steffy: Yeah, without Hope and R.J.

Thomas: Yeah, I don't want dad to come home and feel like we're celebrating like winners or something.

Taylor: Guys, listen. We're not lording our happiness over Brooke and her children. And we shouldn't feel guilty for simply living our lives. Now, we all knew this transition was gonna be very challenging. The best thing we can do is just try to be understanding towards each other and make this as easy as possible on everyone involved. But especially your father.

Ridge: Well, I should've known you'd take advantage of this situation.

Brooke: He's not.

Ridge: He's here, isn't he?

Brooke: He took Hope fishing. And he helped me get the house ready for when I brought the children home.

Ridge: Mr. Johnny on the spot as usual. So convenient.

Brooke: Oh, stop it. That's enough. Look, I'm tired of all this arguing. I just wanna move on with my life and focus on my children. And if you can't make up your mind,Ridge, I'll do it for you. We're over. No more second thoughts. No more apologies. And if you wanna come over here, you call me first. If you wanna see the children, you clear it with me. This is our home, not yours. You chose to be somewhere else.

Ridge: Hope mentioned

Ridge: Hope mentioned something about dinner.

Brooke: Hope will be fine. So will I and R.J. We'll be fine.

Nurse: Dr. Maclaine left your discharge papers at the desk, so I will go get those for you.

Stephanie: Thank you very much.

Jackie: Is Massimo with you?

Stephanie: Oh, Jacqueline. He's getting the car.

Jackie: We're taking you home?

Stephanie: He is.

Jackie: Good. He can drop me at the boutique.

Stephanie: You might wanna get your own ride. I don't think your husband's in the most charitable of moods.

Jackie: Why? What did you say to him?

Stephanie: I think it's more what you said to him about me.

Jackie: I know how far a woman, a mother, will go to protect her son.

Stephanie: Are you equating my health problem with the deception you pulled on your son? On Nick? Hiding R.J.'s paternity. Why, you almost destroyed your own son.

Jackie: If anyone is being deceptive here, Stephanie, it's you.

Stephanie: Keep pointing the finger, Jackie. Keep showing Massimo how petty and vengeful you really are. And by all means, keep spreading rumors about his oldest and dearest friend. Do that and I won't have to do anything to split you two up. I think at this moment, your husband dislikes you almost as much as I do.

Nurse: Mrs. Forrester? Here are the papers for you to sign. And Dr. Maclaine will be right out to say goodbye.

Stephanie: Thank you.

Nurse: You take good care of yourself, okay? She was such a great patient. She was so brave, never complained about the pain.

Jackie: Well, she doesn't have any.

Nurse: You take care, okay?

Stephanie: Thank you. Well, Mark, thank you so much for everything that you've done for me, for my family. Words can't really express it adequately.

Massimo: Thank you, doctor.

Stephanie: Thanks, Mas.

Mark: Bye.

Stephanie: Bye.

Mark: So, you're not going with them?

Jackie: No. Actually, I wanted to speak to you. You mentioned that you just moved into my building.

Mark: I didn't mean to presume.

Jackie: No, you didn't, really. In fact, I wanted to invite you and your wife to dinner. My way of saying "welcome to the building."

Mark: That's very kind, but I'm not married.

Jackie: Dinner for two, then. You can tell me all about your work at the hospital.

Mark: I don't know.

Jackie: Please. I'm fascinated to know what it's like to hold the lives of so many people in your hands. And from what Stephanie's told me, you are a bonafide miracle worker.

Nick: Here you go.

Brooke: Thanks. Is Hope okay?

Nick: Yeah. She smells like a fish and she's full of breadcrumbs.

Brooke: Did she ask about Ridge?

Nick: I told her that he had to go. You did the right thing today. You told Forrester exactly what he needed to hear.

Brooke: I'll have to be strong for myself and for my children.

Nick: You will. But if you need any help --

[ Brooke sighs ]

Brooke: I might.

Nick: You got it. Certainly didn't need any today. Listen, there's some things I gotta take care of before dinner. So, if you need me to stick around --

Brooke: No, that's okay. I'll manage.

Nick: Okay.

Thomas: All right.

Pheobe: These look so good.

Thomas: Hey, dad's here. Just in time.

Pheobe: Burgers are ready.

Steffy: Where's your bathing suit?

Thomas: Yeah, you can't play Marco Polo like that.

Taylor: Hey, honey. You okay? Where you been?

Ridge: I was with Brooke.

Taylor: What happened?

Ridge: I just had to check on her.

Taylor: She wasn't ready to see you.

Ridge: I've hurt her so badly. I let R.J. and Hope down. I -- I feel like I've let you down, too. I really wanted this to be a celebration for our family. But I can't.

Thomas: It's okay, Dad.

Ridge: I'm being pulled in two different directions, and this is kind of difficult for me.

Thomas: We understand. I mean, we're here for you.

Pheobe: It's okay, Dad. Everything will be all right.

Steffy: We love you, no matter what you do. That'll never change.

Thomas: You'll never be alone.

Ridge: Come here, you guys.

Hope: Mommy? Do you need a hug?

Brooke: Yes, honey, yes, I do need a hug. Come here. Oh. That is so much better.
