Nick: Look at us. It doesn't seem right, us sitting around feeling miserable. I don't like it.

Bridget: Well, the same thing happened to both of us. You're not the first guy that got his heart broken by my mother. It's been happening since I was a little kid. My own father, for starters.

Nick: You make her sound kinda black widow.

Bridget: No. No, mom means well. She's -- you know, she's more like a siren from Greek mythology. You know, seriously, like some gorgeous creature singing an irresistible song, luring unsuspecting guys closer and closer. Then they accidentally end up crashing their ships into the rocks around her and drowning, while she sits there, looking amazing, innocently combing her hair. Come on. I mean, it fits, doesn't it?

Nick: I actually see your mother using a brush.

Bridget: I think you're missing the point, Nick.

Nick: I get your point. The difference is I have fixed my ship, and I've charted a new course, which is exactly what you should be doing.

Bridget: Hey, I'm trying.

Nick: Well, you got to try harder. 'Cause you're gonna be okay. Hmm? We're both going to be fine. We're going to meet people that are perfect for us. We'll be sitting around one day with kids running all over, laughing at how insane we were. It'll be the joke of the evening.

Bridget: Sounds like a pretty good evening. Just tell me how and when it's supposed to happen.

Nick: Don't ask me. I still have a Brooke Logan shrine in my dresser drawer.

Bridget: See, you make all these jokes, Nick, but you're still in love with my mother, aren't you? Just tell me. Seriously, I think that this is the only way that you're ever going to get over my mother.

[ Ridge clears throat ]

Brooke: Oh, I definitely approve.

Ridge: You should. You gave them to me for Christmas. I guess I should be thankful they don't have little candy canes and stuff on them.

Brooke: You have a lot to be thankful for, mister.

Ridge: Don't I know it.

Brooke: At the risk of breaking the mood, how'd it go with your mother?

Ridge: It was probably one of the most frustrating conversations I've ever had. But you know what? I'm glad we had it.

Brooke: Yeah?

Ridge: This whole thing with Bridget has been eating away at mother probably as much as it has you and me. And I had my doubts about her agenda, but now I'm feeling like maybe she's not really trying to stir things up.

Brooke: She told me the same thing. She said she was on my side now.

Ridge: Well, the last thing I wanted to do was rehash this whole situation with Bridget and me, especially with my mother.

Brooke: You had to convince her that your commitment to your family and to your marriage is too rock-solid to be shaken up by this.

Ridge: I'm proud of you, Logan. This isn't the kind of situation most moms would be able to deal with. But you're going to help Bridget get through it, and so am I.

Brooke: Just be careful. I know your heart's in the right place, but it's going to take Bridget some time to get used to the fact that you're just her stepfather or just her friend.

Ridge: She's not going to get any mixed signals from me. You have nothing to worry about, Logan. I would never do anything to jeopardize what we have, because it's just too beautiful.

Brooke: Were you going to show me just how beautiful it is?

Ridge: You bet I am.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Brooke: Oh, no.

Ridge: No, just let it ring.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Brooke: Oh, you know, I better get that. It's going to wake up the baby.

Ridge: No, no, no. You are way too sexy to even think about going down there to do that.

Brooke: And what about you, sexy?

Ridge: I'll just have to risk it.

**************************************************************

[ Doorbell rings ]

[ Amber remembers ]

Ridge: I would never so much as touch Bridget again, because I know it would cost me my marriage this time. And I'll be damned if I'm gonna let that happen.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Amber: Okay, Ridge. Now that I know that you're only human, maybe I can get through to you about Thomas and me.

***************************************************************************************

Nick: Take a good look around here. Does this look like a shrink's office?

Bridget: I'm not trying to analyze you, Nick. I just want to help.

Nick: Well, it's a little late, because I have resolved my issues.

Bridget: Well, then I want to learn from you. So just tell me, how did you do it?

Nick: You go one day to the next day, and then to the next day. And you don't make too much out of things.

Bridget: Do you ever dream about her? You do, don't you?

Nick: I dream about a lot of things. Dreams are weird.

Bridget: But you dream about my mother. Just tell me, Nick.

Nick: Yeah.

Bridget: Do you have the same dream every time?

Nick: I don't want to talk about this.

Bridget: Will you just tell me if you have the same dream every time?

Nick: Yeah.

Bridget: Will you tell me the dream?

Nick: I'm on the boat. It's night. I'm working on the engine, got part of it laid out on the floor. And I'm sweaty and greasy, completely focused on what I'm doing. Then I look up, and she's there. The moon lighting her up from behind. She's wearing something flowing and white. Then she comes in and gives me one of those looks, like she's been waiting a really long time to see me. She looks deep into my eyes, she says --

Brooke: I'm back, Nick. And this time, I'm staying.

Nick: And then I wake up.

Bridget: And you're all alone.

********************************************************************************************

Ridge: Thomas is catching up on some school work. He got a little behind during the Christmas break. Not enough hitting the books, too much kickin' it with you Amber.

Amber: Well, I'm sure he'll catch up. I'm actually not planning on distracting him tonight. I came to talk to you.

Ridge: Well, call Megan and make an appointment.

Amber: Thomas told me that the whole dance thing was just a ploy so he could have some alone time with Caitlin.

Ridge: Well, I think the two of them should spend as much time together as possible. They're very good friends, you know. You know, Amber, frankly, I'm surprised you of all people didn't realize my little scheme.

Amber: Well, maybe I let my guard down, because I really wanted to believe that you were giving me a second chance. And I still want that. You know, I have made a real effort here. I have played by your rules and by Stephanie's rules.

Ridge: Look, my mother has this weird sort of tolerance of you, but that's her problem. Me? I've made no deals whatsoever with you, Amber. So there we go.

Amber: Um, no. Listen, listen. Everybody -- everybody wanted Thomas and I to cool it, including you. And we have. You know, we have cut the physical aspect way, way back. And we're fine. You know, we are stronger than ever. We don't need sex.

Ridge: Oh, really? You have some other advantage over Caitlin we don't know about?

Amber: She and Thomas are just friends. She is not a threat to me. In fact, I am really happy that they're going to the winter formal together.

Ridge: You are?

Amber: Mm-hmm.

Ridge: Really? Why is that?

Amber: Because it's important to Thomas. And I love him. I just wish there was a way I could make you see that.

**************************************************************************************

Bridget: Hey. I know that was really difficult for you to tell me. But, you know, it -- it made me realize something about my own situation. Actually, something pretty huge. What you and mom had was real. It was a love affair. You guys gave yourselves over to each other completely, you planned a future and a family, and you made love. But what I had with Ridge was just --

Nick: Now wait a minute now. You guys connected together, something that meant a lot to both of you.

Bridget: No, I know. And I don't want to minimize that just to make myself feel better, but I also know that if I felt for Ridge what you felt for mom, I wouldn't be able to live in the same house with him. But I'm doing it. I -- I think that maybe I have a handle on things. I think I'm a lot closer to putting this behind me than I ever thought was possible. I mean, you have no idea what a relief that is.

Nick: Feeling better?

Bridget: Yeah. Yeah, I am. I'm feeling a lot better.

Nick: I'm glad.

Nick: Nick, you know that day you mentioned that we're going to be sitting together, laughing about how hung up we were? I think it's going to come sooner than I thought.

Nick: I think you're right.

*********************************************************************************

Ridge: You ruined Rick's life. If someone doesn't stop you, you'll do the same to my son.

Amber: Okay, I am not the same person who got involved with Rick. Okay, I am not the same person who hurt your family. I made mistakes. But everybody makes 'em. I mean, even you make them.

Ridge: Yeah? Like, for instance, what?

Amber: Haven't you ever done something that you regretted, huh? Something that maybe shocked and disappointed the people that you care about? And didn't they forgive you for that?

Ridge: You'd love to throw my mistakes in my face, wouldn't you, amber? Call me a hypocrite. Tell me that I have no right to judge you.

Amber: No, Ridge, no. I just want you to see that nobody is perfect. And people can learn from their mistakes. And just because someone may have made some bad judgment calls in the past, it doesn't mean that they have to repeat them.

Ridge: Let me make something very clear to you, Amber -- nothing I have ever done compares to your crimes.

Amber: You're never going to believe I have one shred of decency in me, are you?

Ridge: If you did, you would have walked away from Thomas a long time ago.

Amber: I am not going to hurt him. In fact, I don't want to hurt anybody in your family, not even you. I just want to be with Thomas. Okay, we make each other happy, whether you believe it or not. And, you know, he is 18. We don't really need your blessing.

Ridge: Well, actually, Amber, if you want any future at all with this family, you do need my blessing. That's not going to happen, not now, not ever. This family just isn't big enough for both of us, Amber.

Bridget: I'm sorry. I'll just -- I'll leave you two alone.

Ridge: That's all right, Bridget. Amber was just leaving.

Amber: Ridge, come on. Don't do this. Listen, Ridge, I know you know what it feels like to be in love with someone and have someone stand in the way.

Ridge: If you're trying to compare yourself to me, don't bother. We have nothing in common, Amber.

Amber: Except for your son.

Ridge: Not anymore. Your relationship with Thomas is over.

Amber: Come on. Just be reasonable, Ridge.

Ridge: No. This family is through with you, Amber.

Amber: I just want a chance, that's all.

Ridge: No more chances. Good-bye, and don't ever come back to this house again. Good-bye.

[ Amber sobs ]

*************************************************************************

Ridge: I'm really sorry you had to see that, Bridget. It seems every time I turn around now, amber's in my face, either flaunting her relationship with Thomas or trying to get my seal of approval on it.

Bridget: I guess it was an angst-ridden evening all the way around.

Ridge: Oh, yeah? Where have you been?

Bridget: Oh, no.

[ Bridget yawns ] Jeez. I'm fine. I'm okay. I was just on Nick's boat.

Ridge: Is he still telling you to move out of the house? Being around me is going to cause irreparable psychological damage?

Bridget: Oh, he was just worried about me.

Ridge: We all are, kiddo.

Bridget: No, I know, I know. But, you know, he helped me come to this realization tonight. And it hit me. It was, you know, I'm not as hung up on you and the memories that we shared in this house as I thought I was, or I would be miserable living here with you. But I'm not. You know, being here with you and the kids and mom, it's been wonderful. It made me realize I can handle this, you know, this whole thing with you and me. God, am I making any sense at all?

Ridge: Absolutely. It makes perfect sense. I don't mean to minimize what we shared, but it was a long time ago. And I'm really glad to hear you feel like you've moved on.

Bridget: I really do feel that way. And I've got to thank you for your understanding since I've moved back home.

Ridge: No, no, no. It's not necessary.

Bridget: No, no, no, it is. It is, because you have been so warm and sensitive and caring. And, you know, you really gave me a sense of, just a perspective on things. You've been a true friend. You know, I'm thrilled for this life that you've built for my mom, and I would never do anything to jeopardize it for either one of you.

Ridge: I know you wouldn't, princess. I mean, Bridget. Bridget.

Bridget: Well, you know, I'm really working on this. And I know I'm the only person that's responsible for my happiness. I'm getting there.

Ridge: That's good to hear. You know what? Your family's always going to be right there beside you.

[ Amber remembering ]

Ridge: I would never so much as touch Bridget again. Because I know it would cost me my marriage this time.

Amber: You're right, Ridge. This family isn't big enough. One of us has to go. And it's gonna be you.
