Massimo: I -- wish I could've told you.

Jackie: Told me?

Massimo: I was coming back. And how I got stronger every day.

Jackie: Massimo, if I'd only known.

Massimo: Deacon would've tried to worm -- but I know you love me. I saw it. I saw it. In how you discarded his advances.

Jackie: I do love you, Massimo.

Massimo: You thought I was gone. He used that. I don't -- I don't blame you. I blame Deacon.

Eric: Oh, you're right, Deacon. Massimo is not the man for Jackie. I never thought he was.

Deacon: Well now, what do you know? You and I are actually on the same page.

Eric: That doesn't make you the right man for any woman.

Deacon: Whatever. Look, I don't really care what you think, Eric. I know that I'm good for Jackie.

Eric: Deacon, I have seen you go through woman after woman -- including my daughter. And they all have one thing in common.

Deacon: And what's that, Eric?

Eric: They're off-limits. That's what turns you on, isn't it? The thrill of the chase. And when you get them, you walk away. I'm on to you, Deacon! And I'm not going to let you do the same thing to Jackie. Do you understand? I'm not going to let you do it.

Ridge: It's awfully quiet in there.

Nick: Maybe that's a good thing.

Ridge: Good? I don't think anything good's come out of the two of them being together. Present company excluded.

Nick: She's the reason he fought so hard to come back. My mother's the love of that man's life.

Ridge: You still want the two of them together?

Nick: They're my parents.

Ridge: Doesn't necessarily make it right.

Nick: Regardless of your feelings for my mother, those two have waited a lifetime to be together. I'd think you'd at least want him to be happy.

Ridge: He's been through a lot, Nick. I'm not sure Massimo could handle having Jackie back in his life.

Nick: I'm not sure if he can handle not having her.

Jackie: Massimo -- you cannot hurt Deacon.

[ Massimo chuckles ]

Jackie: Promise me!

Massimo: I promise -- you'll never hear his name again. End -- conversation.

Jackie: No. You are the most powerful man in the world. And I am not talking money or influence. I am talking strictly will. Strict will. I mean, if you could do this, if you could come back from the near dead, you can heal your own body, your own mind -- you can do anything. Anything! And that certainly means that you can forgive.

Massimo: He sealed his own fate.

Jackie: No one's fate is sealed. I mean, look at you. You've been given a second chance at life. It's a miracle! It's a miracle, don't waste it. Not on just a moment of revenge, of anger. It's --

Massimo: You're really -- very passionate in his defense.

Jackie: Massimo -- can I tell you there's just been so much suffering. There's been so much pain, and most of it has been my fault. It has. I'm sorry. But it's got to end. It's got to stop somewhere. I'm begging you. I'm just begging you -- don't hurt Deacon.

Deacon: You know, man, I've got to hand it to you. You've got a lot nerve coming into my house, raggin' on me like this.

Eric: I'm just calling it the way I see it.

Deacon: You can call it whatever you want. The fact of the matter is, most people would've thrown you out by now. But not me. And you want to know why, Eric?

Eric: Do tell.

Deacon: Because I actually believe that you care about Jackie. I think that you're here because you want to protect her. Strange as this might sound, you and I are on common ground there, aren't we?

Eric: What is it that you're protecting her from?

Deacon: I want to protect her from making the worst mistake of her life.

Eric: What? Walking away from you? Deacon, she needs to walk a --

Deacon: Stop! No, that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about going back to Massimo. If she walks away from me, I'll learn to live with it. I'll deal. But you and I both know she doesn't belong with that guy. Come on. She's a free spirit. She's independent. He's a controlling freak. And if she goes back with him, it's going to kill her. And I don't think either one of us wants that, do we?

Massimo: After what he did to you?

Jackie: Massimo, I know what you saw. And I know how it looked.

Massimo: How it looked?

Jackie: Yes. You thought that he was drugging me. You thought that he was brainwashing me.

Massimo: You fought him.

Jackie: And he wouldn't leave. And you were scared to death for me, poor darling. But Deacon is not what you think. He's not the devil.

Massimo: You can say that to me?

Jackie: I know he was cruel to you. And that, it disgusts me, okay? But it was just stupid. It was just juvenile. He saw what pain I was in, darling, he did. He saw the guilt that I was feeling because of you and he understood.

Massimo: Took advantage.

Jackie: No. He helped me. I know that you don't want to hear that. But it's true, Massimo. It's true. I mean, without his support, I just don't know. You saw -- you saw what I was going through when I thought I'd lost you. You saw that I was just falling apart.

Massimo: How fortunate you had him to rely on.

Jackie: Okay. I understand that you are never going to believe that he meant well. But that doesn't mean that you've got to seek revenge that you've got to go after him. I mean, he hasn't taken anything from you. You haven't lost anything. He didn't take your health. And he's not going to take your wife.

Massimo: So -- you want to stay?

Jackie: Yes. Yes, you're my husband. And you came home to me.

Massimo: Yes, I came home. I risked my life for you. What does that tell you?

Jackie: You love me. Beyond measure.

Massimo: And now -- all you care about is saving Deacon. What does that tell me?

Jackie: I'm just asking that you show a little compassion, that's all.

Massimo: Compassion. For the man who reveled in my pain. Hmm? Mocked me! Taunted me. Seduced my wife, in my home.

Jackie: That is behind us now.

Massimo: Is it?

Jackie: Yes. I want to be a good and loyal wife.

Massimo: In spite of your feelings for Deacon? I fought my way from the jaws of hell for you. To save you. To rescue you from that maggot! Maggot vermin! And now you come to me -- tears in your eyes to save Deacon. Because -- terrified -- you're terrified for his safety?

Jackie: Massimo.

Massimo: No! No. Not one more word. No!

Jackie: Please. Please, be --

Massimo: This -- this is your idea of faithfulness, huh? Stay with me to protect him?

Jackie: No!

Massimo: Huh?

Jackie: That is not what I'm doing. I want to be here. I want to be your wife.

Massimo: I won't have you! You care for an animal. He's an animal! Ahh! You can't love a man.

Nick: What's going on here? Hold it!

Massimo: Because he's an animal!

Nick: Easy, easy, easy.

Massimo: You don't --

Nick: Mother, please. Mother, mother.

Massimo: Out! You deserve him.

Nick: Mother, go! Please. Mother, go!

Massimo: You deserve him! Out! Get her out. Out!

Nick: She's gone. She's gone. She's gone. Shh.

Massimo: Oh. Oh, god.

Nick: I'm sorry, pop. I don't know, maybe I should've told you when I found out. I just didn't want to push you over the edge.

Massimo: I -- couldn't let her stay.

Nick: I know.

Ridge: She never deserved you.

Nick: My mother was grieving. She was in pain and desperate and out of her head, and this man took advantage of an opportunity. And I didn't protect her. It was my fault. I didn't see it coming until it was too late.

Ridge: Look, can we stop worrying about Jackie? Put the focus where it belongs. Deacon's a bastard, we all agree on that, right? But she made her choice. She almost killed you. You have got to put her behind you now.

Nick: He's right. I'll take care of mom. You take care of you. You've got to put her behind you.

[ Knocking on door ]

Jackie: I'm sorry for running out on you the way I did.

Deacon: That's okay. Just come in. What happened? You went back inside and you talked to Massimo, and?

Jackie: And I told him --

Deacon: You told him what?

Jackie: That I wanted to stay and be Mrs. Massimo Marone.

Deacon: I don't believe this. I --

Jackie: Okay. Well, just let me --

Deacon: What are you going to tell me? What? Well, let me guess. That it's a gift from god, the way he came back? Huh? That the angels brought him back? I mean, you can't go back there, Jackie.

Jackie: Deacon, Deacon --

Deacon: No! Nothing's different. Come on! What's the first thing this guy does when he gets out of the wheelchair? He pulls a gun on us! No, I know what you're going to say. The gun wasn't loaded -- big deal! It's the same kind of behavior. It's controlling. It's manipulative.

Jackie: Listen to me.

Deacon: No, you know something? You can't go back to this house!

Jackie: I'm not going back to that house! He threw me out. He doesn't want me. It came out -- how I feel about you.

Deacon: You told him?

Jackie: No, I didn't have to tell him. It was so clear that my heart was divided and --

Deacon: And you came back here to me.

Jackie: Yes.

Deacon: So you're -- you're free. We're free to be together, right? Yeah? Come here.

Massimo: I -- was trapped in the wheelchair. But I saw him manipulating her. She resisted.

Nick: She resisted as long as she could. She asked me to kick him out. But -- he had me convinced she needed him.

Ridge: You're not the first to get burned by Deacon. Certainly won't be the last.

Nick: I just don't want my mother to be next in line.

Ridge: Well that's her problem now. Look, you did everything you could. A superhuman effort to get her to hear the truth. I know it's not the popular opinion right now, but I'm going to say it anyway -- I'm glad she didn't listen. You know what? You're much better off. You're so much better off without her.

Deacon: It hasn't sunk in yet, has it?

Jackie: This whole night -- I mean, it is so surreal. Seeing Massimo in the living room like that, I -- I thought, first, he might be a ghost, and then I thought I was just losing my mind.

Deacon: No, no. I don't think you were the one losing. I think he was the one, with the gun and the wild man antics.

Jackie: No. Can you imagine what it was like for him? He came back for me. He charged over there for me, and then -- he found me in your arms.

Deacon: I'm sure he told you exactly what it was like, and then made you feel like hell about it.

Jackie: He was ready to forgive me for everything I -- we had done. It was amazing.

Deacon: Jackie, come on. Don't you get it? That's this guy's M.O. You know, he makes you feel unworthy and then he makes you feel guilty and then, right when he's got ya, you know, he blesses you with his magnificent forgiveness. You know. I bet next week he would call you and offer to take you back.

Jackie: No. No, not this time.

Deacon: Why?

Jackie: Because he knows, he could tell how I feel about you. He knows that I care about you now. And he's not going to be able to forgive that. And I can't change. And I don't want to change that. I don't want to lose you.

Deacon: You know what I think is so absolutely amazing?

Jackie: What?

Deacon: Is the fact that you were actually willing to go back with him.

Jackie: I don't know if you can understand this, or actually, whether or not I should be telling you this, but I will. I do love him, Deacon. When I was praying for his recovery, it was --

Deacon: Just that when it happened, you felt like you were obligated, right? Jackie, you have to know it never would have worked out. That guy's a tyrant. I'm sorry but, you are such a strong woman, it's only a matter of time before you'd say "I've had enough." I just hope that you're strong enough for what's coming next.

Jackie: Massimo's washed his hands of me.

Deacon: No, no. That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about everybody else. All the people who are going to look at you and they're going to point their finger and they're going to say she abandoned her invalid husband for that young stud. No, I'm serious. I'm being serious. A lot of people are going to come down on you, Jackie. And they're going to come down hard. And some people, they're probably going to say that you're nuts. I mean, they're just going to say she's lost it.

Jackie: I am through -- absolutely through -- worrying about what people think of me.

Deacon: Even Nick?

Jackie: I've got to believe that he's going to understand soon. You know? He'll see how much happier I am with you.

Deacon: Baby, he's going to see. He's going to see it. So is everyone else who thought that you were just going to, I don't know, change your mind after a while. I'm going to make believers out of every one of them. Because I intend on treating you like a queen.

Jackie: No. I don't want that. I had that, and it didn't make me happy. You make me happy, deacon. You do. I don't want you to give me anything. Just you. Do you think you could do that? I'll take that as a "yes."

Deacon: You know, the last time I kissed you, I thought that was going to be the last time I ever kissed you. And it wasn't the end, it was just the beginning. I mean, do you get this? This is the first time since we've together that there's no dark cloud hanging over us. There's nobody. You know, we can just be ourselves. You know, there's no judgment. There's nothing to be ashamed of.

Jackie: Oh, my darling, I -- that's the first time I've called you that, isn't it? You know, you are my darling, darling man. I'm not ashamed. I'm proud, I'm so proud to be the woman that you love.

Deacon: Jackie, I'm going to love you forever. I'm going to love you forever. And ever. And ever. And ever. And ever.
