Ridge: I'm sorry, mother. I just can't accept it -- Amber moving in here with you and Dad. I don't trust her.

Stephanie: Well, neither do I. That's the whole point, isn't it? I mean, what better place to keep an eye on her than here?

Thomas: I'm worried about you crashing here with my grandmother. I don't trust her.

Amber: Thomas, your grandma is an amazing person. And -- and I get a chance to hang out with your family and to prove to them that I've changed.

Thomas: Well, don't change too much.

Amber: Mm. Mm, you know, this probably isn't what your grandma meant when by making myself at home. You probably should go.

[ Thomas sighs ]

Thomas: Just promise me you'll be careful.

Amber: That's so sweet of you to worry about me. But you don't need to. Trust me. You are going to be so glad that we did this.

[ Amber giggles ] Come on. I'll take you to your car.

Stephanie: I know I'm right about having Amber here. Trust me. You're going to thank me for doing this.

Sally: You know, Bucky, I have heard of minimalism, but this is ridiculous.

Clarke: Well, it's tough to come up with something brilliant when I have no idea what Thorne wants.

Felicia: Well, we know what he doesn't want -- any of the designs we showed him earlier. He hated them.

Darla: He didn't hate them. He thought they were really close. What you guys have to remember is he's trying to compete with Forrester Creations.

Clarke: Where is Thorne, anyway? We could use some direction around here.

Darla: He's still in there with Eric.

Felicia: Still? That's -- that's not good.

Sally: Come on, now. We don't know that for sure. Maybe they're having some kind of breakthrough.

Felicia: Sally, my father was very angry.

Darla: And Thorne had so much resentment still built up.

Felicia: I mean, it's just so frustrating, because they love each other.

Darla: I know.

Felicia: You know, I mean -- they just can't get past the hurt. Kind of reminds me of my mother and I.

Sally: Well, all right. I mean, that should give you hope. You and your mom are very simpatico, now, right?

Felicia: Well, we're doing better. It's -- it hasn't been easy, though.

Sally: Of course not. It's never easy admitting your mistakes. But Eric Forrester is no coward, and he is no quitter. And whatever his faults, he loves his family. And he would never do anything to hurt 'em.

Eric: I don't like hearing this, Thorne. I don't like hearing this at all.

Thorne: I know you don't. And I've tried for a very long time not to say it, dad, but it's killing me -- living down to your low expectations.

Eric: Thorne, I don't see it that way. I don't see it that way at all. I've always tried to be supportive.

Thorne: Yes, by cutting me slack and not pushing me, dad. You didn't push me. "Give the kid a break. He's never gonna be Ridge."

Eric: I didn't want you to be ridge. I love you, Thorne.

Thorne: Yeah. But that's the thing, dad. If anybody else said they -- that I wasn't good enough, I wasn't smart enough, or tough enough, I wouldn't listen to 'em. I wouldn't care. But you -- you're my father. And I'd listen to you, dad. I took those messages in, and I made 'em a part of my life. I'm asking you -- I'm asking you to believe in me, dad. To believe in me. Don't ask me to quit, because I can fail, okay? Don't. Just believe in me.

Eric: You've got one hell of a mountain to climb.

Thorne: I think I can do it.

Eric: All right. You'll get your shot. But I'm not going to cut you any slack. Gonna be no "a" for effort, here. You're gonna succeed or fail all on your own merit.

Thorne: Wouldn't have it any other way.

Eric: No special favors. No bending the rules.

Thorne: Absolutely not. All I want is an even playing field.

Eric: Well, either you've got a lot of guts, or you're crazy as hell.

Thorne: Yeah. Isn't that what they told you when you first started out?

Eric: Yeah. Yeah, they did. Okay. Good luck.

Thorne: Good luck to you. You're gonna need it.

Ridge: Even with her staying here, we're still not gonna know where they are or what they're doing.

Stephanie: I think the scare at the doctor's office today threw more cold water on their sex life than you and I ever could.

Ridge: But how could it even get this far? I mean, didn't they use protection? Obviously, she could conceive. Doesn't she know the difference?

Stephanie: Well, she got it all mixed up, between conceiving and carrying to full term. That's not the point. We can't put any more pressure on tom, or he'll take off with her. And that's not what you want.

Ridge: So you think we need to take a different tact, then?

Stephanie: Well, I think we have to take this opportunity to try to get them to see that this is a mistake for both of them. Honey, tom is a wonderful boy, but he's a boy. Amber needs an adult.

Ridge: How long is it gonna take him to realize the poison this woman is peddling?

[ Knock at door ]

Samantha: Eric?

Eric: Sam, hi.

Samantha: I knocked, but you didn't hear me.

Eric: Well, I was kind of lost in thought here.

Samantha: Oh, well, I don't want to interrupt your flow.

Eric: No, no, it's all right. Come in, come in, come in. It's not this I was concentrating on, really. I just came from a visit -- a confrontation really -- with Thorne.

Samantha: Things have been kind of tense between the two of you lately, huh?

Eric: Mm-hmm. And he accused me of not believing in him, not having any faith in him.

Samantha: Well, is there any truth in that?

Eric: Yeah. But there doesn't seem to be much I can do about it anymore. And now he's over there at Spectra trying to, well, heal his own wounds.

Samantha: By taking you on? Proving you wrong?

Eric: Yeah, yeah.

Samantha: But you don't think he can do it.

Eric: Oh, Sam, he's a businessman. He's a very good businessman. But this business is about design, and he's not a designer. And I suppose he's right. I suppose that's my fault. And I should have given him the same training and the same opportunities that I gave to Ridge, and that's just -- it's too late for that now.

Samantha: Well, you did train Felicia and Clarke and Amber -- his dream team.

Eric: Yeah, I did. But for Thorne to expect them to compete with Ridge -- I mean, they're just not like him. They don't have that same clarity of vision that he has. They're not gonna be able to do it. I mean, they need guidance. They need mentoring.

Samantha: Which is going to have to come from Thorne.

Eric: Yes. Look, I want him to do well. Can you believe it? He's the competition, and I want him to succeed. It's just -- I don't know. I just -- I would love to have him prove me wrong. I just don't --

Samantha: You don't see it happening.

Eric: Sam, he has everything riding on this. If he fails, what's that going to do to him?

Darla: Hey.

Thorne: Hey.

Darla: So -- what happened?

Thorne: We talked.

Darla: Yeah. What did you tell him?

Thorne: Everything.

Darla: Oh, baby. Baby. Oh.

Thorne: Everything that I've wanted to say to him for the last 20 years. You know, how he didn't support me, how he never had any real faith in me.

Darla: What did he say?

Thorne: He apologized.

Darla: Really?

Thorne: Mm-hmm.

Darla: Do you think he really meant it?

Thorne: Yeah, I do. Of course, he still doesn't think I can pull this off.

Darla: Well, he's wrong, you know.

Thorne: Yes, but you know what? There's nothing wrong with that. It's okay. He's only human. You know, when you're a kid, you think your dad has all the answers. I thought he knew me better than I knew myself, that he was a better judge of who I was and what I could do. And he was wrong. He had blinders on. And he still does. But you know what? That doesn't make him a bad man. And it doesn't mean that he doesn't love me. He does, in his own way. It just means that he has flaws like everyone else.

Darla: Wow. It sounds like you've forgiven him.

Thorne: I have. But that doesn't mean that I agree with him.

Darla: Good. Because we are going to rip those blinders right off of his eyes and show him exactly what you are capable of.

Thorne: You make me believe I could do anything.

Darla: Oh, you can. And don't you let anybody tell you anything different.

[ Door slams ]

Stephanie: Amber.

Amber: Sorry. Did I interrupt?

Stephanie: No, I was telling Ridge that you're going to move back in here with me.

Amber: Oh, I wish I would have been here for that. I would have loved to seen the look on your face.

Stephanie: Amber, let's try and be adults about this.

Ridge: No, mother, this isn't going to work. Now that we know she was trying to trap my son.

Amber: Okay. That is not true. I didn't even know I could get pregnant.

Ridge: Oh, but just in case the doctors were wrong, who better to father your little miracle than-- my son maybe?

Amber: Okay, whatever you may think, this isn't a plot or a plan. I didn't plan to fall in love with Thomas, or for him to fall in love with me. It just happened, and it has nothing to do with trying to get back into your little family.

Ridge: No, of course not. But, gee, here you are, living in mother's house again.

Stephanie: Oh, Ridge, please. Can we just try and get along?

Ridge: No, mother, forget it. Tell her to get the hell out of here now.

Eric: Until I talked to Thorne today, I have to say, I didn't realize how much it meant to him for Spectra to be a success, and for Felicia, too.

Samantha: And you think they're heading for massive disappointment.

Eric: Thorne would say I'm being unfair, but, in fact, I think I'm being very realistic.

Samantha: You sound like hector talking about Caitlin. I think it's something all parents go through. You want to stop your kids from taking any risks, from taking chances. You want to protect them from getting hurt, and you want to protect yourself from having to watch them get hurt. And -- well, Eric, it's not going to kill him if he fails. It will teach him. Maybe he's not meant to be in this business. Or maybe he'll come back to Forrester. Or maybe he'll learn that no matter what, you're there for him, win or lose. And maybe -- just maybe -- he might teach you a thing or two.

Sally: What is Thorne looking at so intensely? Those designs aren't all of a sudden gonna turn brilliant and start tap-dancing off the page like they do in cartoons.

[ Darla chuckles ]

Darla: Well, he has to make them work, especially after what happened with his dad.

Felicia: It was that bad, huh?

Darla: No. No, no, no. Actually, they made some progress. I think Thorne still has something to prove.

Sally: What do you say? Should I pull in my shingle and start selling muumuus door-to-door or what?

Thorne: Shh. Hang on, people. I think I've got something here.

Stephanie: You know, you're being unreasonable about this. Thomas is 18. He can date whoever he wishes. I have my doubts about this relationship, you know that. But I'd rather have you here and to have the whole thing in the open, so that you can at least find out whether it's real or not.

Amber: You don't know what this means to me, Stephanie. Thank you. I won't let you down. I swear.

[ Stephanie sighs ]

Stephanie: Okay, look, it's been a long day. You go to the guest house, get settled in, and I'll check on you later.

Amber: Thank you. I will. Good night, Ridge.

Stephanie: What was that all about?

Ridge: Hey, I couldn't go along with it too easily. She'd be suspicious. Now she thinks you're her champion.

Stephanie: You know, I wouldn't be surprised if she -- if she doesn't have quite a bit of doubt about this relationship. But she just can't admit it to us, can't even admit it to herself.

Ridge: Well, in case -- I'll look forward to seeing the results of your little experiment.

Stephanie: I think -- I hope -- sooner rather than later this relationship will be over.

Thorne: Here, Clarke.

Clarke: Yes.

Thorne: Look at the neckline on Amber's design here.

Clarke: Mm-hmm.

Thorne: Instead of continuing up like this, we take this detail from your sketch right here, put it in the middle.

Clarke: All right.

Thorne: Exactly. Now, all of a sudden, classic elegance becomes a lot hotter. You see what I mean?

Clarke: Yes, yes, yes.

Thorne: But the bodice is still missing something, right? So what we do is we take the sequined lace from Felicia's sketch right here, and we add -- no, no, no. No, no. Like this, like this.

Sally: So you take one from column "a" and one from column "b"? I mean, what are we talking about here? A Chinese takeout order?

Clarke: Sally, I think he's onto something here.

Felicia: Well, Thorne, let us see. Come on.

Thorne: Just give us a second, guys. We're almost through.

Darla: Honey, come on. Don't keep us in suspense.

Clarke: You mean like this. Like this.

Thorne: Exactly, exactly.

Darla: Honey --

Thorne: And then put the sequins a little --

Clarke: Beautiful.

Thorne: Just like this right there.

Clarke: Beautiful.

Eric: This is what I'm talking about, Samantha. This is what Thorne will never be able to accomplish over at Spectra.

Samantha: Wow.

Thorne: Somebody say something.

Darla: Oh, Thorne. It's wonderful.

Thorne: Yeah?

Darla: Yeah.

Sally: What do you mean "wonderful"? Come on. These are well past "wonderful." I'm so excited about 'em, I'm getting goose bumps in places I forgot I had.

Felicia: Thorne, I can't believe that you pulled that together from three different sketches. Do you know what kind of an eye that takes?

Clarke: The eye of an artist.

Sally: Mm-hmm. And you've got that, Thorne. You've got it, kiddo. You have got it.

Thorne: I think you're right. This is. It's good. It's actually good.

Felicia: Yeah.

Clarke: It's excellent.

Darla: I knew you could do it, Thorne. All you needed were people behind you, who believed in you. You may not be able to draw like Eric or Ridge, but you can create beauty. You have a gift. And you've had this all along.

Thorne: I'm not just a bean counter.

Darla: No, no you're not. Ridge was wrong. You are an artist, a visionary. And you are the man who is going to take spectra couture to the top. I've known this all along. You can do anything.

Thorne: With you by my side, lady. All of you.

Sally: Yes!

Felicia: All right!

Clarke: Absolutely, you are the man.

Sally: You are the man. I love you, baby.

Thorne: What about you, honey?

Darla: I love you more than you'll ever know.

Sally: Oh.

Darla: Oh, baby.
