Stephanie: Eric, he's still your only son.

Eric: Well, you tell him that. He's not acting like my son.

Stephanie: Well, you didn't act like his father. He's trying to teach you a lesson.

Eric: What lesson is that, that crime pays? He stole our collection. Every single design. Months and months of hard work, and not just mine, everybody in this building. You want to excuse that?

Stephanie: No, I want to get to the heart of the problem.

Eric: Well, I want to eliminate the problem. I've got Jonathan coming in.

Stephanie: What? Why?

Eric: Look, Thorne's pushed me into a corner. He's forced my hand.

Stephanie: He forced you to choose between him and Ridge. We should've stood by Thorne and we didn't. I just hope it's not too late.

Eric: Well, I'm not going to excuse criminal behavior.

Stephanie: Behavior? Criminal behavior? What about our behavior? What about all the years and years of hard work and loyalty on his part? How did we reward that?

Eric: You can't justify what he's done!

Stephanie: I'm not trying to, but two wrongs don't make a right. Someone has to start showing some caring and some loyalty! We've got to start acting like a family again, or we're not gonna be one! Listen to me and listen to me very carefully. I will walk away from this company, and I will never look back. But I will not walk away from our son. We have to find a way to make peace.

Clarke: "In a move reminiscent of the great equestrian underdog, Seabiscuit, Spectra Couture came from behind and outflanked Forrester Creations to win the first contest of the season, yesterday, when they debuted their extraordinary new line."

[ Cheers and applause ] There's this one, too. This one, too. "Clarke Garrison's gowns made the showroom audience gasp in awe. He joins the ranks of such talented designers as Christian Dior, John Galliano and Ridge Forrester."

[ Applause ]

Darla: Oh, my, that is an awesome review. Congratulations, Mr. Genius.

Clarke: I'm not the real genius around here. We all know who that is. Our president, our very own Seabiscuit, Thorne Forrester.

[ Applause ]

Darla: Yeah, Mr. President.

Stephanie: This is all our fault.

Eric: Stephanie, what Thorne has done here is a crime.

Stephanie: I understand that. I see that. Why can't you? We've driven him to this.

Ridge: This guy's as low as they come. A traitor to his own family.

Brooke: And from what Ridge tells me, he's proud of it.

Samantha: He actually stole the whole line?

Eric: Yes, right out from under our noses. In spite of all of our security precautions.

Megan: But even with Thorne's inside knowledge, he would have to be a magician to be able to slip those designs out without us noticing.

Rick: Well, every magician has an assistant.

Eric: And that's who we have to find. We have to find who helped Thorne do this.

Ridge: It could be someone you're working right beside. No one is above suspicion now.

Stephanie: I do not want this to turn into a witch hunt.

Eric: But we have to get to the bottom of this.

Ridge: Look, I'm putting you all on notice as of now. Whoever was disloyal, whoever was stupid enough to throw this company over to my brother right here, is going to be very, very sorry. Fines and jail time are just the beginning of what they have to look forward to. So, take that back and tell everyone. You go up against Forrester Creations, you better be prepared to pay. Thorne has started a war here, and we're gonna finish it. We're gonna win it.

Thorne: Okay, well, that's great. Thank you. All right, we'll talk soon.

Clarke: Hey, everybody. Just got off the phone on a conference call with Lauren Fenmore. She said we really put ourselves on the map yesterday. And she tripled her order.

[ Cheers and applause ]

Darla: Oh, that's great. Sally's gonna go crazy!

Clarke: Now this is only the beginning, because Forrester is going to be forced to cancel their showing. Wait until the world gets a load of that. The Forresters are gonna fall flat on their face.

[ Cheers and applause ] And this is all thanks to our new general, Thorne Forrester.

[ Cheers ] I think this man deserves a drink. Let's get him a drink. I deserve one, too.

Employee: Here you go, Thorne.

Thorne: I'm okay, brother. Thanks.

Clarke: Better enjoy it while you can. We're gonna be working our butts off for the next few months.

Thorne: Oh, I am enjoying it.

Clarke: Could've fooled me.

Darla: Thorne didn't get much sleep last night.

Clarke: Oh, really? Good for you two.

Darla: That's not what I meant, Clarke.

Thorne: I just kept playing the fashion show over and over in my head.

Clarke: Well, no wonder, standing there at the end of the runway with the waves of applause cascading over you. Oh, Thorne, that was your finest hour.

Thorne: Yeah. My finest hour.

Samantha: I'm so sorry that you're having to go through this.

Eric: This is a dark day around here for all of us.

Ridge: Yeah, tell me about it. There won't be a single Forrester employee untouched by what Thorne's done here.

Megan: Eric? Jonathan's here.

Eric: Oh, good, good. Send him in. Thanks, Sam, for all your support.

Samantha: Well, you know, anything that I can do.

Eric: Thanks. Jonathan? Jon, it's good to see you.

Jonathan: I'm still reeling at the news.

Rick: Yeah, join the crowd.

Jonathan: Thorne, of all people -- I just never would've thought it.

Brooke: Apparently, he's been jealous of Ridge and all of his successes for years now. Suddenly, he just snapped.

Stephanie: It's a little more complicated than that, Brooke.

Eric: Jonathan, can I get you something?

Jonathan: Oh, no, no, no, thank you. I'm fine.

Ridge: Fine and raring for a fight, I hope, because I sure am.

Jonathan: It's going to be a tough one.

Ridge: Why would you say that? Thorne infiltrated our offices. He ripped off all of our designs. That sounds like grand larceny to me.

Jonathan: Where's the proof?

Ridge: Here's the proof, Jonathan. This is our latest collection right here, and I have all the original sketches to prove it.

Jonathan: And who's to say they came first?

Rick: We have dated records of every step of the design process.

Jonathan: Oh, I'm sure Thorne has his records, too.

Rick: Fake records.

Jonathan: Your word against his.

Ridge: Jonathan, I can get hundreds of experts to come in and testify, this is typical Forrester style.

Stephanie: Anyone can copy a style, Ridge.

Jonathan: Exactly. Don't forget, he's a Forrester, too. There's nothing here that authenticates these as yours. Now, if you had beaten Thorne to the punch with the release of your line, we'd be looking at a whole different story. As it is, we're looking at a legal long shot.

Ridge: Great. Just great. So my brother screws us over and he lucks out by facing no consequences.

Eric: Lucks out?

Rick: He really outplayed us this time, didn't he, dad?

Eric: Yeah, he did. He took our designs, he cornered the market on the finest fabrics and he debuted ahead of us. Which guarantees Spectra an upper hand in any courtroom preceding.

Stephanie: He outmaneuvered us.

Eric: Yeah, I have to give him credit.

Ridge: Credit?! He's cost us millions.

Brooke: Not to mention what it will do to our reputation.

Rick: Dad, right now, we have to cancel this entire collection and start from scratch. We can worry later about explaining the delays.

Ridge: Now I'm going to have to handle this.

Stephanie: By doing what?

Ridge: By contacting all of our buyers, all of our distributors.

Eric: I think so. I think a few well-finessed phone calls will take care of it.

Ridge: No, Dad, it's got to be more than just phone calls. I've got to do this in person. Damn him. Over there basking in the limelight now. Able to go home to his wife and kid. Where me, I've got to go out and travel now. Clean up this mess. Jonathan, I don't care what it takes, I want you to prosecute this bastard. I want you to pursue every avenue. I want him dragged through the courts! I want him facing criminal charges.

Stephanie: No.

Ridge: What do you mean, "no"?

Stephanie: No, Ridge, no. Your brother has come in second best his whole life. This time, he's coming in first place.

Ridge: And you're still

 riding on my coattails.

Profiting off of my creativity!

Stephanie: Thorne,

please don't do this.

Darla: Let him go!

Stop it!

Ridge: You stole our

designs and you're going

to pay for it.

Big mistake, little brother!

Big mistake.

Darla: Honey? You okay?

Thorne: Yeah. I just didn't expect to feel this way

Darla: But you came out on top. Showed your family what you can do when you have people behind you who believe and trust in you.

Thorne: Yeah, I showed 'em.

Darla: Yeah.

Thorne: But that's not what they saw. They saw a traitor. A disap -- they saw a thief.

Darla: Sweetie --

Thorne: You know what? I did. I did come out on top, but did I really win what I was after? Their respect? No.

Ridge: Mother, you're standing up for the guy who's trying to crush us.

Stephanie: That's not what he's doing.

Ridge: The hell he isn't!

Stephanie: This is not about revenge, Ridge.

Ridge: Well, what in god's name do you call it then?

Stephanie: It's a cry in the dark. He's trying to get us to understand the pain that he's in.

Brooke: Pain?

Stephanie: Yes, pain. Years and years of short shrift. Less attention than you got.

Ridge: Oh, please! You gave him every bit as much love as the rest of us.

Stephanie: Well, he didn't understand that.

Ridge: Well, that's his problem.

Stephanie: No, it's not. It's my problem. And it's my fault.

Eric: No, Stephanie, it's our fault.

Ridge: What has gotten into you two here?

Stephanie: We didn't make it clear to him. We didn't take the time to make him understand what he meant to us. And because he's the kind of kid that he turned out to be, we took him for granted. All the years in that damn basement, and the two of you up here in these beautiful executive suites.

Ridge: Because that was our part of the job. That was Thorne's part of the job. He was paying his dues.

Stephanie: Well, he paid them till he didn't have anything left in the bank, and I didn't see it. And when when we finally did give him something, what did we turn around and do? Pull the rug right out from underneath him! Patted him on the head like a good little boy and said, "go back downstairs to the basement."

Ridge: Look, you two have to stop blaming yourself for all --

Stephanie: I should've seen this. We gave him no choice.

Ridge: We did give him a choice, Mother! And now he chose the one that would hurt us the most!

Stephanie: Oh, really? And how has it hurt us? What have we lost? A little prestige, a few sales, a little money. We've had worse publicity than this. What has your brother lost?

Ridge: My brother stands to gain everything out of this.

Eric: Everything except the thing he wants most. Our respect.

Stephanie: Exactly. I want to go over there and talk to him. I want to see if we can work this out. I want to see if he'll forgive us.

Eric: I'll go with you.

Ridge: Well, just great. Why don't you give him a medal while you're at it?!

Darla: You're not the only that should feel guilty, Thorne. Your family should. For making you accept second best all these years.

Thorne: I just thought when it was finally me at the end of that runway, it'd be everything I ever wanted. But you saw the way mother look at me backstage. Like she didn't even know me. Like she didn't even want to know me. You know, they just want me to go back to being the chump. A doormat. Well, I can't anymore, Darla, I can't live like that.

Darla: I know, I know.

Thorne: And if that's what they ant to make them proud or -- there's probably nothing I can do now to make them proud of me, huh?

Darla: Honey.

Thorne: I'm just going to have to accept it. My parents are never going to forgive me. Your crock-pot slow cooker.

Ridge: What an upside down world we live in, huh? My brother commits highway robbery and my parents now go to congratulate him.

Brooke: I don't think that's what they're doing, Ridge.

Ridge: Oh, now you're going over to their side?

Brooke: No, I'm trying not to take sides at all. That's what your mother was saying. Having to choose one over the other, that's what got us in this trouble in the first place.

Ridge: Since when did you start listening to my mother?

Brooke: I know, it's pretty hard to believe, isn't it? But while she was talking, I was thinking, "what if that were one of our kids?" What if hope grew up feeling that we loved R.J. More than we loved her, or vice versa?

Ridge: Well, that would never happen. We'd never put our kids in that position. You know that.

Brooke: Not intentionally. You know how things go. What if you said something in the heat of the moment and one child internalizes that. Or we're paying more attention to one kid, because of a problem he's having, and the other one feels neglected. Wouldn't you want to do everything you possibly could to make that right?

Ridge: I understand my parents are feeling a lot of guilt right now. But I also think that guilt can cause you to go too far in the opposite direction.

Brooke: There's no easy fix, is there?

Ridge: Not for any of us. All I know is that I know I have to go away for awhile, and I'm sure as hell gonna miss you.

Brooke: Do you really have to go?

Ridge: I'll be back as soon as I can. We can pick up right where we left off, okay? Which I believe should be right here.

Darla: Thorne.

Thorne: Back for round two?

Eric: We didn't come to argue. We came to talk.

Thorne: I really don't see the point.

Darla: He already knows how you feel.

Stephanie: It's so sad, isn't it? That it would take something as drastic as this for you to get our attention. Well, you've got it.

Thorne: What's this about?

Eric: It's about this. You did it. You accomplished everything you said you would. I underestimated you. Big time.

Stephanie: You told me, you told me you had the loyalty of a lot of people at Forrester. And you really did, didn't you? Because it took someone with enormous loyalty to take a big chance like that and bring these designs over here to you.

Thorne: All right. If this is a ploy to stop me from distributing the collection --

Stephanie: No, it isn't.

Eric: This is your time in the spotlight. Your brother and I have been accepting the applause and the awards all these years while you were quietly building the foundation. So much of our success is due to you, son. The collection is yours. Take it. Run with it.

Darla: Oh, my god.

Thorne: What's the catch?

Stephanie: There isn't any.

Thorne: All right, I don't understand.

Stephanie: This is our gift to you.

Eric: I was wrong, son.

Stephanie: We were both wrong. And we really respect you for forcing us to face it.

Thorne: You respect me?

Stephanie: Absolutely. Completely. Your strength and your perseverance -- a lot of people would have folded under something like this. But you didn't. You never did. You stood there. You stood tall. And you've demanded our love and our respect. And I'm here to tell you, you've got it. You are everything, everything your father and I could ever want in a son. And I'm just -- I'm so sorry that you just never knew that. Oh, baby, I'm so sorry. God, I'm so sorry. And your father is, too. We love you so much.
